I think this is how Shakespeare intended his plays to be performed - men in wigs, dirty jokes, and script memorisation

I saw a local theater attempt to put this on, and learned comedic timing is a delicate art. These three in the original have that art down, and their performance never gets old.

I took my son to see this live. He had only read Romeo and Juliet in school. After seeing this play, he read a lot more of Shakespeare's plays so he could understand more of the jokes. We bought the CD and the book. Then a year later another local company was doing this play, so we went again. I thought my son would pass out, he was laughing so hard.

In high school, my English teacher (who I had as a freshman and senior) used this video every year. I fully recommend this to anyone reading Shakespeare in school; whether it’s purely for credit or for fun! Shakespeare is hard for most people so presenting his work in a funny way truly helps those who may not follow the story the way he/school intended.

I did a production of this, I was Adam. The single hardest show ive ever done, but it was SO much fun! The bald guy was played by my dad and we made it a bit. Before Romeo and Juliet, he pulled "Romeo" aside and was like "This girl over here? She's precious to me, I'm watching you. Be careful" And then Romeo made a point to be as sexual as possible. I've done other shows with this dude tho, and he makes everything sexual

    • @robertplattner1636

Did your dad do this on stage or behind the scenes? The over-sexualness would have been funnier if the audience had seen your dad say that.

When me and my class were leaning Shakespeare, the only story we read by him was Macbeth. Me and each of the students took turns in reading the parts of the play.
And we also read "William Shakespeare's Star Wars: Verily, A New Hope" by Ian Doescher, again with each of us taking turns reading the lines. One of the students played the R2-D2 scream during the climax of the Deathstar and he also did Vader's breathing in between sentences. I asked if I could do the prologue in Yoda's voice. My teacher didn't allow it and so only he would read it. But I did do my Obi-Wan impression when I did his lines.
But eventually, our teacher showed us this show during class. I'm very glad he showed it to us. This is definitely one of the greatest and funniest plays I have ever seen. I even showed it to my mom who was laughing so hard. If the play ever happens in the future near where we live, we definitely want to see it.

There are two reasons I can’t take Othello seriously anymore:
    1. This play
    2. A melodrama called, “How now brown cow” where the playwright had a serious Shakespeare obsession. The hero’s name Willy Shakes. He had a cow named Cleopatra. The henchman had a “lithp”. One of his lines was, “Othello!”
To be honest, this play ruined all of Shakespeare’s plays for me.

Here are the lines you missed, per the ‘92 script:
Daniel: “...We left Adam on his own to research this play. He must have looked up “Moor” in the dictionary and thought it was a place where you tie up boats.”
Jess: “Which, in this context, is totally pea-brained. In the 16th century the word “Moor” referred to a black person.”
Adam: “Oh I feel like such a dork.”
Your imagination can take it from there
