From the creators of 'A Very Potter Musical' and 'Holy Musical B@man!', comes 'Twisted: The Untold Story of a Royal Vizier.' Hop on your flying carpet, because this musical parody retells the classic tale of Aladdin... from the villain's point of view! Long ago in a Magic Kingdom, one misunderstood Royal Vizier will go on a quest to save his city from its bumbling sultan, an invading prince, and the most notorious thief to ever live! With the help of the Kingdom's free-spirited, teenage Princess, the Vizier must find a magical lamp containing a wish-granting Djinn (who's really funny, by the way) and defeat the city's most-wanted criminal... Aladdin! This musical adventure celebrates and lovingly pokes fun at everyone's favorite series of hand-drawn, animated films.
'Twisted' features story & script by Matt Lang, Nick Lang, and Eric Kahn Gale. With music by A.J. Holmes and lyrics by Kaley McMahon. It is directed by Brian Holden.

most theatre companies: no one will care about your musicals if they're online and freely accessible!
team starkid: hold my coffee
Hold my jammin' cup of java mocha latte with a frappe for you Jack-
It's not that no one will care, it's that theaters full of people wouldn't pay hundreds of dollars a seat for months straight if people knew the shows would eventually be online.
(This is not my viewpoint, but the supposed viewpoint of those involved with Broadway and Off Broadway productions... or plays in general in many cases).
@@brch2 yet starkid still sells out tickets every time.
@@dangreen3868 Starkid tickets aren't hundreds of dollars per seat. And I should have clarified... that is the theaters'/production companies' reasoning I was stating (not that they don't think people would care, but they don't think they'd sell as many tickets at such high prices if they put their shows up for viewing regularly). There is also the fact that when it comes to putting plays up in traditional media, the rules regarding profit/pay and other factors are different, and makes it more complicated. But... several musicals (Newsies, Shrek, and Legally Blonde being three big ones) have done it in recent years, and hopefully a trend will form where more Broadway and Off Broadway productions will start showing their plays, at least after they're over.

I just realized that the disney “villains” singing in “Twisted” were not randomly chosen. They each represent one of jafar’s motivations and show him that you can’t always have what you want without hurting other people.
Ursula represents his desire to be respected by the people and to be a fair ruler.
Scar represents his desire for equality between people from all backgrounds.
Gaston represents his love for his wife and his desire to save her.
Maleficent represents his desire to fit in amongst the people and the court.
Captain hook represents his frustration caused by the Princess’ lack of responsibility.

SO REAL. i'm rewatching this after years, and i remember being so obsessed with this song but i didn't remember why until the harmonies on "they'll remember achmed" hit. THEY'RE SO GOOD
The most underrated part of this is how Ja’far agreed that he’s not the best person to use the lamp, and when he says, “It takes someone who believes they can change the world to actually do it,” the camera pans to Jasmine but immediately focuses back to Aladdin

This whole show was acted out by just 12 people but containing at least 30 characters. Now that's good!
“I want to know your story” might just be better than any romance song actually written for a disney movie, and I actually love those. Well done 😭♥️
It’s certainly a healthier approach to romance than most Disney love songs because real love requires getting to know someone on a deeply personal level and caring about who they are.

@BIANCA CRUZ the guard did look at him with disgust 'cause "it's all your fault ja'far if you had just fixed the socioeconomic imbalance like you had promised..."

The implications of jafar not escaping after being accused of being a sorcerer are horrifying.
How long before the sultan suspected the princess of being a demon spawn because she was born of the wife of a demon, regardless of fatherhood, after she spirals under Aladdin's influence. It would definitely question her right to the throne.
Really makes the next song hit that much harder.
Then you have the invading army crying ''TIGER FUCKER''
The irony of Aladdin, who is LITERALLY twice Jasmine's age, calling Jafar a ped0 for saying he loves Jasmine 😂

@Just Another StarKid Fangirl ur name is relatable
She’s the CEO of the “7 year old boy” sign from Brooklyn nine nine
Rachael's performance in this blew me away. I saw her first in Firebringer and she was great there but she just killed this role on another level. Her singing talent in particular really shines. I love her as the Princess so much.
One of my favourite details is that in "Dream a little harder" when the towns people are singing all the ways Jafar could meet his end, they reference the ways the villains that appear in "Twisted met their ends
Skewed by a ship = Ursula
Eaten by Hyenas = Scar
Plummet to their death from a castle = Gaston
The only villains death that is mentioned but they don't appear in "Twisted" is "hanged in tangled jungle vines" which it obviously references Clayton, who is commonly said to have one of the most brutal and violent deaths in any disney film
The attention to detail in this musical is insane
Technically it also references Ratigan (plummet from a clock) and The Evil Queen from Snow White (plummet from a cliff) who also aren't in "Twisted"
"Unlike Aladdin he probably had a family who loved him"
"Yes"
"ᵉˣᵃᶜᵗˡʸ..."
That one was gold

Yes it’s excellent camera work too
I love how there's a warning saying it contains Adult Language. Like, the day Starkid release a musical without swearing is the day the world explodes.
Yep pretty much.
Your profile picture is BEAUTIFUL
Well, we better hope that they don't stop swearing

All hail Achmed the tiger fucker!
Having the chance to perform as Achmed in a university production of this show is my greatest accomplishment in life and so many lines in the finale stand out to me more now that I've bonded with so many people in the cast. Power In Me used to be one of my least favourite songs, but now that I can appreciate the finality and beauty of it, it's one of the most emotional for me.
You are so lucky- Achmed seems like such a fun role to play!
8 years later and i'm still thinking about how they had so little time to develop ja'far and sherrezade's relationship and did it BEAUTIFULLY
like every part had to fit together just right and it DID
the selling point for me really is their acting. don't get me wrong, it's *maz*ingly written and blocked, but the pure joy with which they speak/sing to each other and the adoring looks in their eyes
no one could pull this off like dylan and meredith
“except you’re forgetting one thing i’m a thief” literally made that scene so scary
Elizabeth Fowler it seriously took such a dark twist at that point. It was all pretty dark at that point, but the implications behind the “taking what I want” line are so fucked.
It's a dark fucking show. I think its they're darkest. Fuck TGWDLM. So it didn't have a happy ending. At least it never implied rape and hasva guy with split personality disorder killing his family. It didn't have a guy losing his wife to royal asshole. This show is D A R K

I've watched this countless times but I've only just realized how they totally NAILED the "Disney end credits" cover song style. Twisted never fails to amaze me!
The saddest part about the ending is that by becoming the djinn, he becomes immortal, which means since one of the few limitations of their magic is the inability to restore the dead, he doesn't even have the opportunity to finally meet his wife again, even in death.

I come back to this musical again and again. It's so funny and lighthearted but also so endearing and emotional. Rarely, if ever, have I seen these two aspects combined so beautifully. My favorite line, "Is it nobler in the mind to be well-liked but ineffectual or moral but maligned" was on my quote board for 6 months straight.
I just came from the Schaffrillias video and… wow. I came into this excited yet unsure and left blown away regardless of his glowing review. Phenomenal, had me cackling (especially in the second act), and genuinely moving. It is strange that Jafar calls Pixar their vassal while Achmed declares it a sovereign nation and Jafar just stands there. Your vassal just declared its independence in front of you and you do nothing. No wonder they brought whole army to overthrow the sultan.
This play is deep.
I just realized something about Jafar at the ending. It took me this long but... yeah.
When Jafar became a Djinn, the way he did things was still very logical. The blue Djinn just poofed everything to existence, but Jafar had plausible reasons for the wishes being answered.
Sultan - the Sultan was signing a will
Money - stray ammunition destroyed a wall, conveniently discovering a large sum
Happiness - (this is a bit of a stretch but) he did say earlier that he wanted the genie to conclude even without him directly wishing, just by 'natural' logic, that someone who saved the city and stuff needs someone by his side so the genie would grant him his bride back? (again this one is a bit of a stretch)
It ties in to his very logical character.
