Yeah. It sure looked nice at the end. Highlights sure can seem tricky sometimes when you start out as the model at the first to middle step looks "wrongly" painted for a moment. But once the entire pallet is applied you can really see the details for what they are. You just gotta have the nerve to see it through; or at leasy that is my takeaway from this video.
Its cool to see someone taking these contrast paints the extra mile. Sure you can use them for table ready, but with a little extra work you can take them that much farther. Not many content creators are doing this.
its incredible to see how much you guys have grown since the older videos. Still awesome quality, but the polish on the new ones is very noticable. Love the content.
Incredible job.. I have to say that I prefer the green of the armor before the highlight.. in my mind the Dark Angel has a shadowy green armor, like the green you see under the shadow of a conifer forest.. it is almost black until some light shine on it.. so said, I would love to be able to paint something like that.. and the weapon.. ahh.. lovely!!
Thank you for posting these videos! Your channel is brilliant and I am genuinely looking forward to all the content you'll produce in the future! Keep up the great work!
Hi, thanks for this. please paint a space wolf. also could you do a step by step tutorial on how you high light. do you wet blend, show us how you do it, & talk us through your technique . thanks
I really love the color palate you use for these! I am getting into this game next month, and I've been looking at many different creator's take on the DA's. Thanks so much for your content!
Awesome videos, I was very sceptical about using contrast paints but you have inspired me to give it a shot. I'll have to get some AoS Orruks painted up when I can get the paints and try to send a few pics. Thanks for the tutorials!
Yesterday I was watching this Ultramarine painting tutorial. I thought to myself then - what a great and simple way to do this; I'm going to try that on one of my new Dark Angels. And bam;] I think people asking about materials for their fraction not ecactly because they don't know how to translate blue to green, but rather they hope to catch some another good tips for their miniatures. And I think you should give a king not what he want but what he needs -- so maybe some tutorial about making some generic effects would be fine, or something about colors, like not everything mixes really nice, etc... By the way, I've found this channel yesterday, so don't know what you have here;]. Beautiful work that Ultramarine is, and it's obvious that you have more than that to show - so I will stick here for a while - to learn and admire:).
Hey man, this comment just made my day brighter - thanks! There will be more videos like that as well. I'm producing them as fast as i can! :) Keep spreading the love!
I love the game, the hobby and painting. But after years I'm still struggling to paint models I'm proud of. I don't feel like I could ever accomplish this level of detail in 100 lifetimes. I dont understand how you do it.
Been watching so much Warhammer painting recently and really wanna get back into it. I used to collect Dark Angels too, but I betrayed them when I saw Dante and started collecting Blood Angels - Dante cost me £8 back in the day, quite a lot for a young teen.
@@SquidmarMiniatures squidmar are you rattle can spray priming these? or airbrush? my spray can primers are kinda grainy when I apply them, im used to just airbrush priming. any tips on how to prime for contrast?
You sir are a genius and it doesn’t surprise me that the dark angels green would be harder to paint as GW doesn’t like the first legion. I hope you don’t mind but I’m now going to share this in the dark angels fab group so you might get a increase in views ;)
Can you please do flesh tearers next? I love the colour scheme as well as your videos, I feel like you would do a great job of it on an easy build intercecor
You see, painting them great is fine, I’m going to try correct assembly first though because my arm is glued upsilons and back to front on one of the models I have. Granted it was a scrap model but I was trying to practice painting not building!
I know it sounds simple... but I would like to see how contrast would work on a guardsmen. I'm use to painting gaurdsmen but would love to see the effects you can get on such a small model with contrast
Would of been cool to have done a dark angels unit that had more robes to see how the contrast paint would of looked. I can imagine the contrast paint+highlights would make cloaks look slick
I really need to improve my painting speed for my DA army that s why i watched this video. Since the process doesnt look much faster as the usual way to painy minis, one big question you havent answered : how much time did it take you to paint that one ?
Hi! I really like this and am looking forward to trying it. For the purity seals, you mention three contrast paints: snakebite, Iyanden and a third that I can't quite understand and doesn't appear listed. Which paint is it?
Please do imperial Fists with contrast paint. I have heard that this is the hardest colour to do right and Ive been holding off to paint my models until I see how you do this. Please do this soon and thanks again keep up the good work and your amazing by the way love how you do the contrast paints. I’m very much a beginner at it so I only manage to do upto a certain. Point with your tutorial haha cheers again
Squidmar Miniatures aww okay not to worry I’ll just wait for that then haha I’ve just stripped all of my ultramarines and dark angels anyway to follow your tutorial so got those to do. Cheers man
Kind of late to the party but awesome guide right here! Quick question, usually people paint the main color first (DA green in this case), how come you paint all the details around first? Isn't it a bit easier to paint the green first (leave details untouched), then go for details and also "cover" possible small mistakes with the black/brown etc? Or am I missing something?
Sir, I really enjoy your content so far. Do you do this only-contrast-paints as a challenge? In practice, wouldn´t it be easier to use "normal" and contrast paints?
That's a great tutorial, thanks! Do you think that diluting the DA Green with Contrast Medium and then applying it twice would give a more consistent coat?
Really nice one! :) I think contrast paints are really interesting. But I have a question. I would like to test that with my salamanders space marines, so I take an another green, but contrast paints looks often a bit squishy. Is there a trick or is it like that?
They are good for some things, not everything. Just like with all brands, inks, shades etc. They are not a one tool fix all - but great for some things.
I just subscribed to your channel ! Your painting skills is awesome ! I'm definitely learning from watching your videos ! Please keep making more of these if you can. Could you do a Black Templar ?
@@SquidmarMiniatures Mmmh... I'm sorry, but I dont' see any link in the description for the brushes. There are only links for your social media URLs and the colours, which you used, are listed. Or am I completely blind :D
Basically you did a NMM paint over a contrast paint that was already primed with a zhenital. I am not sure contrast paint is of any help. It can even make it more complicated to rework parts where there was too much paint.
It saves the wash and edge highlight steps. So as long as you're careful it works well to save time and trouble.I think the more important thing, which he hinted at, is that you use the contrast paints to get your army table ready in a hurry, and then he shows how to come back later and make them really pop without having to remove the old paint first.
Contrast paint saved so much edge highlight between 6:00 and 8:00 that it magically appeared during that time :D. Contrast is not bad, I bought a few myself. But I am not sure it's going to save you a lot of time when you do Black base, Zhenital base, Contrast, NMM, Multiple color Edge Highlights. Contrast is very good for table top ready quick paint: base, contrast, one edge. I am going to paint around 60 plaguebearers with contrast - I might want to try the black base and zhenital to see how it affects light after the contrast coat.
Nice job! You mentioned using Lahmian medium in a few videos. Are you actually using Lahmian or are you using the new Contrast medium. As I understand, they are different formulas.

I absolutely love how you highlight black/metal color on your minis. Your highlights, in general, are awesome.

Love the nmm space marines, and maybe next do space wolves, keep it up 👍
