In terms of credits, it's perfectly reasonable in Hollywood for a major actor to get no title credits until they full appear in the show. They might even have some lines in earlier shows, but not be credited to avoid spoilers. This is allowed under union rules.
I think the line "he's not yours" still works if both Agatha and Rio understand Teen to be Agatha's son, because Agatha traded him away. As if Rio either is or knows the entity that the kid now belongs to after the trade, and is reminding Agatha she can't reneg on the deal to take the kid back. Not sure if that's the intended reading of the line, but that's how I heard it.
Agree. Jac didn’t put twists and turns into Wandavision, and then take 3 years to release Agatha and make it obvious as lolz I actually think it’s funny that so many people think they have it all figured out
speak for yourself Nando!! I'm a scaredy cat and that demon freaked me out lmao. i LOVED the costumes in this episode!! Patti as Liza Minnelli and Sasheer as Donna Summers was so inspired!!!!
Yeah that demon was definitely freaky looking and I was not expecting it to just pop up like that. Love loved the costumes too, everyone’s was on point!
I’ve been single handling keeping Alice protected because that song has been on repeat since the episode. It’s also just a good workout song. Great episode, they all looked great, the lines and jokes are great. All the hints at Rio were popping off in this episode.
There's something interesting about the idea that Agatha could have made the deal, maybe thinking she'd outsmarted whoever's at the end of the road (because Rio is her lover, and as such wouldn't take her kid), only to realize Rio couldn't help her, and that she was responsible (due to her character flaw as a schemer) for hurting everyone in this horrible way.
I have to admit that, upon finishing this episode, I felt a little underwhelmed by it - like... I enjoyed it, but it was just fine, nothing special. Then I started reflecting on it, and the more I stewed on it, the more I realized that, no, I actually really liked it. Then I started watching breakdowns like this video, and I realized that this episode was something special. I have no idea why I didn't give it the credit it deserved initially, but I'm glad I eventually got there. This is a good example of why I don't like trusting my initial gut reaction (or worse, acting on it), because sometimes I need to digest something a bit more to really form a fully fleshed out opinion on it. Videos like these definitely help, so... Thank you for this 🙂
Honestly, same! I think it's because the show does a lot of subtle storytelling, for a marvel show especially, that we don't appreciate it all in one go. Watching the show again through an analysis and seeing how much I've missed is really cool. It goes to show the care they've put into this that there's even attention to minor details not everyone will notice!
Rio specifically says, "That boy isn't yours." Which I take to mean he belongs to someone else now, but could be Agatha's son that she gave up to said person
okay i kind of LOVE how Kathryn Hahn is giving Agatha's character more layers, we really only saw 1 or 2 sides of her in Wandavision *not including the Agnes persona.* But here she's become so much deeper. In the scene where Agatha is talking to Teen and there's just this somewhat soft side to her, and then moments later almost putting her walls back up when Teen asked about her son. I love it so much
I've said this in other forums online, but I do think the "green witch" is that of the necromancer, or at least I think once we get a Rio-focused trial, that will be what her skill is. She has a deep proficiency for that craft and her being SO skilled was meant to be a major as who she REALLY is. Or maybe she's like an avatar like how Marc is an avatar for Khonshu.
Facts and Rio already called drums. My favorite moment of the episode I think may be when they can all see the curse and stop playing because of how scary looking it is, Rio just keeps playing the drums into a pulsing bridge rhythm clearly just loving the spectacle of it all.
What occurred to me is that Wanda's kids actually knew Agatha when she was in her Agnes persona and she looked after them when their mum was depressed. So I wondered if maybe, even if Teen doesn't remember that time, it's somehow compelled him to research Agatha and end up on this path. (Then again, I guess she also kidnapped them and used them as bait, so maybe not)
I think Agatha actually developed an attachment to the kids as well, and don’t think she was ever going to hurt them when she kidnapped them. She did start as Franklin Richard’s babysitter in comics so it could be part of her character just in built.
@@Byronic19134 I am not sure about Tommy but I think also think she definetely had an attachment to Billy as he told her in episode 7 of WandaVision that "You are quiet, Agnes. On the inside." which made she paused for a moment, probably because despite of her disguise as Agnes, and her flameboyance as Agatha, he still hit the mark.
I was also starting to think about Rio possibly being a fusion of Blackheart and Death. Especially being the child of Mephisto (the Devil), it completely makes sense if Blackheart also acts as the embodiment of Death too. After this episode that’s definitely what I’m expecting.
I wouldn't really describe WandaVision as scary but it had a couple of really shocks and creepy scenes (visions head, the end credit argument, Agatha frozen in the car, Mr Hart not breathing, etc). I feel like AAA could have a few more of those types.
I think it does, in Episode 2 the way the Salem 7 marched on the house was terrifying. In episode 3 some of those jump scares were perfect especially Lillia’s seeing her maestro and death. And of course the Demon Curse in Episode 4 which had a specific 70’s monster vibe to it on purpose and was just plain creepy looking.
Based on the affection and motherly instinct she is clearly representing over Teen, the comment coming from the person who probably took her son when he died, was meant to reference her son. A reminder that she needs to move on and accept that her son is gone.
tarot reader here. 3 of swords on the traditional RWS deck means there's something causing emotional pain or despair. Im curious if she meant that for Agatha because if im not mistaken the next scene was about agatha talking to teen, which i think made her be reminded of her son. Added by the fact that she was confronted by Rio, telling her that the teen is "not hers". That or it's foreshadowing to Lilia's trial, could be anything really, just thought it was just a nice detail
The De Palma camera aesthetic and editing of the 70s room was fantastic. I loved it so much and it made the tension and horror of the scene work wonderously.
Lilia's been saying a bunch of different tarot cards, most relating to the promotional tarot cards released. She said "three of pentacles" when she had the vision about the coven, which is the coven's card in the promo, "high priestess" when meeting Jen, which is her card, and "three of swords" is Agatha's card, meaning loss and grief.
my theory is that Jen didnt quite lost her powers, at least not the way she thinks, she was made "feel powerless" and that was the bind that was holding her back, a lack of confidence in her skills as a witch, and in a way her magic responded to that lack
I will mention this because I've seen many channels say that the empty credit with the Halloween costume could be an upcoming character, but that credit actually belongs to Vertigo, the leader of the Salem Seven. I forgot the actress' name, but I remember seeing that name in Episode 2 being filled.
I’m kinda hoping the show does what wandavision did and surprise us by going back to the real world and have Agatha and the other witches fight a surprise villain or the Salem 7. The title card makes me think of white vision. The white hex
That was the worst part of WandaVision in my opinion, it just felt wrong to end a show about sitcom parodies with a slowly building mystery element to suddenly take a hard left turn into big CGI laser battles.
Ooh, I hadn't thought of it that way (that he might still be her son, but "isn't hers"), that would be a clever misdirect, without directly lying to the audience. I like that idea, as I thought early on it would only make sense as her son, and the idea of it being Wanda's son just doesn't seem feasible.
I think Agatha’s cavalier attitude is a front for a woman that’s deeply lost in grief. The rumours about her and her own corruption with the Darkhold gave her a sinister reputation, and she played into that, rather than have to try to justify herself and the reality of what happened to people that have already formulated an opinion. She said in the last episode that she left Jen alone because the work she did was important, and we find out this episode that Jen was a midwife. Agatha’s nightmare hallucination was her son’s baby bassinet. I believe that Agatha’s son died during (or shortly after) childbirth. Which is why she values Jen’s work. Her own son couldn’t be saved, so respected Jen saving the children of others. And it’s also why she took Billy’s near-death experience so personally. She was reliving her trauma with a boy she was growing fond of in a motherly way. She either lost her son, and sought the Darkhold to resurrect him, or made a deal with Mephisto to give him her first born child in exchange for it, never considering she’d ever have a child. Either way, she wants the Darkhold to resurrect her son. I believe Rio is Death. Agatha hates Rio for claiming the life of her son, something the dialogue hints this episode. And I believe by wanting to use magic to violate the natural laws of life and death, Rio is targeting Agatha. Rio also states that the coven was “throwing a party” - which is what Agatha told Sharon. And Sharon would have relayed that to Rio when she came to collect her soul. She also states she was “in the neighbourhood” - which she was. Again, to collect Sharon’s soul. Agatha also speaks to Rio “don’t” when Billy is near death, begging her not to take his life. It also makes poetic sense why all the witches are attracted to Rio: Through the centuries of danger and life-threatening scenarios they’ve encountered, they’ve been _flirting with Death_ the entire time. Makes sense there’d be a supernatural attraction to her. I believe the sigil on Billy was put on him to protect him from Agatha, who would likely have killed him out of spite if she knew he was Wanda’s son, due to her grudge, upon their first meeting. The irony is that both Agatha and Wanda wanted the Darkhold to recover their lost children. And with the Darkhold gone, and its corruption and hold over them gone, Agatha could maybe begin acting as Wanda’s mentor and teacher in witchcraft, like she does in the comics, when Wanda inevitably comes back to life. I don’t believe Jen is bound. I think her powerless state is a traumatic response. Much like how a victim of domestic abuse or sexual assault is unable to immediately enter a new relationship or sexual encounter , Jen is equally too traumatised to be able to use magic. But will do so upon the “the power was in you all along” trope is depicted in a future scenario. As for Alice requesting the Green Witch to bring Advil - she indeed received it: ADVIL = VIDAL.
7:20 I think PROBABLY Rio literally means he's not her son (like, he's literally not that person), but IF Agatha traded her son away (to, idk, Mephisto or something), then she COULD mean that he's not "hers" in the sense of ownership, because she gave him away.
Agree that this really turned things up, even if I quite liked the previous episode. The returns of Aubrey Plaza and the way her character fits in with the others was great. It's sad to see that Ms. Hart/Sharon Davis was seemingly only in the show to give us some fun Debra Jo Rupp before setting the stakes by showing a character can die, but that's kind of fair. As for the speculation about Aubrey Plaza's character, if Rio does end up being some avatar of Death, then I think the thing she hated to do might've been the opposite of what's suggested by Nando in this video: it's not that she hated having to kill Agatha's kid, but rather that Agatha abused her pre-existing relationship with Rio to force her to bring the kid back (which would be quite anathema to an avatar of Death), but - because of the way it was done - Agatha doesn't fully know what happened (I guess a sigil blocks her memory) while Rio is withholding or can't say either, but she does at least know who the kid *isn't*.
AAA really feels like it just gets better every episode. I was not a fan of the first two episodes as the first felt pretty clunky and a worse version of the start of Wandavision and the second felt really slow and didn't like the dialogue given to Teen as it felt very "How do you do fellow kid's" that kinda bled into episode 3, but 3 and 4 were really fun and I loved the Escape room aspect of them. 4 kinda put through me for a loop since I thought they'd kill off one person every episode and was worried that it'd get tiring and predictable who is next. Alice is easily my favorite character because of her little moments and her big moment here. I like that every episode seems to revolve around female centric pieces of media, 3 being a very very very loose homage to Big Little Lies but more feeling like generic botox moms vibes, and 4 being a slight homage to Suspiria with its specific editing style. I hope they lean into that more and more, but obviously with a twist. More akin to 4 than 3 is. Very much hoping to see a Buffy style episode, but I don't know how that'd work with the Escape Room vibe.
The point of saying the witches recipe is to make viewers think they’re fucced like where are they going to find these seemingly random ass ingredients only to realize they are regular household items.
It is SOO funny if, Deadpool 4, Cable and Wade fought over death. There's an obvious joke to be made there and all the Green lanturn stuff once that series airs
Yeah you can tell this is a very smartly executed show production value/budget wise. They do the thing where it both makes witchcraft feel more grounded and saves them cgi money and it honestly works really well
Flirting with Death, it's right there. It would be really weird if she was Mistress Pandemonium, with that character's ties to Tommy and Billy, Wanda's kids.
I read a theory that Mrs. Hart is just Rio in disguise and if thats true then I feel so dumb not making the connection considering her last name is Hart like heart, like Rios Blackheart
I thought I was the only person who noticed that Lilia spacing out connected back to the "I love you guys" scene. None of the reactors or the theory crafting people noticed that part or cared. I thought that was really interesting and I'm curious to see other moments that connect back to things she said earlier.
The way that Death presented in Lilia's hallucination makes me think that if Rio is "Death" it is going to be that she is more an Avatar of Death. Kinda like a D&D Warlock, she has incredible power but her job is to do tasks assigned to her by Death.
If the Westview title card is Elizabeth Olsen, she will be a “with” title card with the one after her. So there would be a total of 4 “with” plus Aubrey Plaza’s “and” title card
The witch credit image is for Vertigo, one of the Salem Seven (the one with bees coming out of her mouth in the trailers). The Westview credit image is still a mystery
That was a bit odd, because she “didn’t do anything…” this episode. I expect we’ll see some meaningful protection magic in the next episode as Alice is back in wonderland having passed her trial.

It's such an interesting way of phrasing it while keeping both theories plausible. I like it.
This is the show where we hear a cover version of more or less the same song each time, I love it
I have to admit that, upon finishing this episode, I felt a little underwhelmed by it - like...
Rio specifically says, "That boy isn't yours." Which I take to mean he belongs to someone else now, but could be Agatha's son that she gave up to said person
man they really followed up on wandavision and beat joker 2 simultaneously
I see Rio and Agatha's relationship as the literal metaphor of flirting with death as per Agatha's powers and nature
Rio didn't tell Agatha that Teen wasn't her son. She said "That boy isn't yours". As in "You already sold him". I think that line is a misdirection.
okay i kind of LOVE how Kathryn Hahn is giving Agatha's character more layers, we really only saw 1 or 2 sides of her in Wandavision *not including the Agnes persona.*
But here she's become so much deeper.
Yeah Rio is def an avatar for Mistress Death, more specifically I think she is Blackheart who is an avatar for Death.
@@Byronic19134 She did say "I have a heart, and it's black" in episode 1...
Pretty sure she is the MCU version of The Emerald Warlock
It's been good bro, but I'm glad you came around
Agatha: Jen get on bass!
Jen: I don't know how to play bass.
Agatha: Jen how many times do we have to go over this, you're BLACK you can play bass.
Facts and Rio already called drums. My favorite moment of the episode I think may be when they can all see the curse and stop playing because of how scary looking it is, Rio just keeps playing the drums into a pulsing bridge rhythm clearly just loving the spectacle of it all.
She didn’t die first, though, so that Black trope didn’t get used.
Agatha Cartman
i really love a marvel show that doesn’t constantly smash in your face that is in the mcu, i think we’re past that
Maybe the real Agatha All Along was the Coven we made All Along the way... and by "way," I mean The Witches' Road™
If Aubrey Plaza is who we all think she could be im so exited to see how they use her character in the future.
Not to nitpick... heh... but what Rio said was "he's not yours".
That could mean "you gave him up, he's not yours anymore "
I don't think it got good, it just got sooo good. It was already good imo.
Agatha pointed out that Rio can't kill her, and she's very clearly waiting for people to die rather than causing the deaths
@@Byronic19134It worked for me until they showed the monster, then it looked a little too concrete and silly.
Maybe we get a "man behind the curtain" moment at the end, but rather than being a lesser entity, it's Mephisto behind the curtain.
So long as it’s not Darcy.
@@Byronic19134Loki?
no she says, 'He's not yours.' That could imply that he isnt her son, but it can also imply that she has no control over him.
Based on the affection and motherly instinct she is clearly representing over Teen, the comment coming from the person who probably took her son when he died, was meant to reference her son. A reminder that she needs to move on and accept that her son is gone.
@@MashMalloman what if it's short for 'he's not yours, he's mine'
Really liked that rendition of Witches Road
tarot reader here.
10:14 Bruh…WHAT? 😂😂😂 No way if we get to end of road and it’s Darcy that would be biggest troll ever.
This show just keeps getting better and better.
Nando. It’s BEEN good. Can’t cash a check till you put money in the bank. This TikTok generation seems to forget how stories work
Been watching Expanse reactors just to get back to that show which is a masterclass in setup and payoff.
She’s the “Ronan the Accuser” part and when she fails she will be brought before Mephisto who will have his “fine I’ll do it myself” moment
I think The Ballad of the Witches' Road is this show's version of We're off to see the Wizard 🎶
my theory is that Jen didnt quite lost her powers, at least not the way she thinks, she was made "feel powerless" and that was the bind that was holding her back, a lack of confidence in her skills as a witch, and in a way her magic responded to that lack
I would love to get a Mayo Vizion sighting, and what if he comes to get Billy because it’s his kid?
That was the worst part of WandaVision in my opinion, it just felt wrong to end a show about sitcom parodies with a slowly building mystery element to suddenly take a hard left turn into big CGI laser battles.
I just binged the show and now im binging your weekly commentary and its an experience
I think Rio's comment that Teen isn't Agatha's son is true, it would be out-of-character for a Marvel show to directly lie to the audience.
Rio said "that boy isn't yours", which I read to mean "you can't have him". Which doesn't rule out either of Billy, Nick, or neither.
@@TheEvilCheesecake Yes, i read "That boy isn't yours" as "You already sold him, so he is not yours to care"
@@TheEvilCheesecake Yeah, that was definitely my reading too.
Breaking new ground is always an option, especially if Rio is actually an arch villain of some sort.
Added symbolism if "teen" is somehow a fusion of Wanda and agatha's kid.
Mayb Tommy an Billy both died on the day Wanda created the hex. She snatched their souls for a few days, then returned them.
The tension between Rio and Agatha is by far the sexiest Marvel has ever been, I'm hooked.
I'm glad I'm not the only one humming the song between episodes.
"Down, down, down the road..."
Always has been, but I respect your opinion!
the show is spooky, campy, not scary. but i love it anyway.
I think the Salem 7 are the scariest part of the show. Bc in episode 2 they were scary AF
7:20 I think PROBABLY Rio literally means he's not her son (like, he's literally not that person), but IF Agatha traded her son away (to, idk, Mephisto or something), then she COULD mean that he's not "hers" in the sense of ownership, because she gave him away.
The blank stare in your eyes, goodness I couldn't see past it.
The story is king and this is one of the best Marvel Television shows love it must watch
Maybe we need a "villains not this villian" video about rio
Also, Teen did what you said they shuld've done in the third episode, to modernize the recipes and magic. It felt right.
The point of saying the witches recipe is to make viewers think they’re fucced like where are they going to find these seemingly random ass ingredients only to realize they are regular household items.

I love this show it’s witchy it’s fun and it’s everything I’d want from a witch show
Yeah you can tell this is a very smartly executed show production value/budget wise. They do the thing where it both makes witchcraft feel more grounded and saves them cgi money and it honestly works really well
Plaza can do creepy like almost noone else.
Odd amounts of sexual tension going on.
Yea, it's a fun show so far.
Lilia's "GET OFF ME!" before they enter the road also seems like it's from this episode, when the curse perched on her
Flirting with Death, it's right there.
Would make sense seeing she, you know, clawed her way out of the ground, where Mrs. Hart was buried :D

SHA-RON.
I was just puttering around the house with the song in my head.
I thought I was the only person who noticed that Lilia spacing out connected back to the "I love you guys" scene. None of the reactors or the theory crafting people noticed that part or cared. I thought that was really interesting and I'm curious to see other moments that connect back to things she said earlier.
I like that the show is more spooky than scary.
Death is a natural occurance...hence green witch... ;-)
This show is so good
Agatha is not acting like she's walked the road before.
Damn. I forgot that Agatha was the Richards' babysitter. That's gonna be so fun, if it ever makes it to adaptation.
I read Rio’s last line as “You don’t need to feel bad when you sacrifice Teen because he’s not your son.”
Not at all, Rio said that to her after Agatha was just previously begging her not to take him.
What if its literally Agatha all Along?
Meaning she cursed Alice's family back in the day and also somehow responsible for Lilia and jen's problems?
No mention of Jen getting her potion abilities back when she heals teen?
That was a bit odd, because she “didn’t do anything…” this episode.
I expect we’ll see some meaningful protection magic in the next episode as Alice is back in wonderland having passed her trial.
Honestly, this is such a campy, fun show. It also feels absolutely feels absolutely nothing like a Marvel show, and you don't really need any knowledge to enjoy it. That is good, i am having fun.
I really want to see Critical Drinkers take on this show now that we've got 4 solid episodes in. He was bashing the hell out of this show before it came out because of some things he's seen behind the scenes. The sets are great, the costumes are great, the story makes sense and seems like it's progressing just fine, the characters all have some depth and are interesting, lot's of great easter eggs to cinema and tv shows in this.
