A stoic demonologist of the dark arts having to deal with the antics of excitable and affectionate magical girls would be an anime I'd watch.

Just to make it even better, add cosmic horror into the mix and the magical girls got their powers by accidentally making a pact with the Lovecraftian cosmic horror equivalent Tzeentch and the magical girls are completely unaware of how much they fucked up.That would definitely have me sold.

I imagine the demonologist as a guy with stubble glasses on the edge of his nose and dark rings around his eyes because Kawai justice means all hours. I imagine the anime scene where they make the pose it's shining out and he's just stood there slouching thinking his coffee needs some whiskey.

Someone's compared him to Snape, but drinking, messy hair, slouching and constantly done with everyone's shit... it's Qrow from RWBY. Seriously, perfect mirror image of the character!
As has been mentioned, this needs an anime (or a book at the least). Jokes that can be done with it:
Demonologist shoots a villain mid-monologue.
Demonologist is given access to his own magical girl abilities. He actively refuses to use them and finds workarounds to avoid situations that'd require them.
Magical girls do a Captain Planet style fusion scene, and the demonologist starts throwing in a bunch of crappy imps to power up the transformation. The end result is a heavy metal, doom-slayer esque magical girl done in a completely different art style.
AU episode where we get to see both the demonologist and magical girls beating one villain, without the help of the other, in two versions of events. The alt events are revealed to be the magical girls having a shared nightmare while the demonologist is actively fantasizing.
Finale reveal that the magical girls were drawing power from hell the whole time, but the demon they were getting power from turns out to be one the demonologist has a working contract with.
I mean it's a good title but I still prefer "weeaboo wrangler"

I honestly thought this would be one of those stories with a twist at the end, revealing it to be a show that actually exists like, "Haha! We had you thinking this story was real but it was actually this show you watch the whole time!" but it turns out it wasn't. In conclusion, I, like every other commentor, wish this was an actual anime.

A one-time friend of mine wanted to run a high-powered BESM game once, 4 players.
After an hour or two of character creation, the GM looked over our character sheets. The party:
The Grappler: built around a simple principle - grab, hold, pin, and survive anything.
The Distraction: flight, energy blasts, negative status effects, illusions, that sort of thing.
The Sniper: Ex-Navy Seal veteran, high powered sniper rifle.
The Ultimate Weapon: a regular Joe with two powers: super-explosive self destruct upon death, ultimate regeneration from anything.
The Plan: find target, distract target, grapple and subdue target, UW enters melee, sniper shoots UW from about a mile away.
The First Session: there wasn't one. Three highly experienced GM gave abandoned the campaign.

I can totally see him being a more restrained version of Black Mage from “8 bit theater” and the girls being like a hodgepodge of sailor moon ripoffs.
I see this as Sailor Moon plus The Ancestor from Darkest Dungeon, and nothing will tell me otherwise.
While that's a fair comparison, the Ancestor would have either turned his party members into abominations or feed them to the same.
So...it was a Harem Anime as a RPG campaign. They're just lucky that rift ritual they interrupted didn't crit fail and disgorge a mass of writhing tentacles, resulting in a scene more fitting to a Tentacle Hentai than a Harem Anime.
I wanna see this poor guy's social media page. I can definitely see one saying 'magical girls keep coming to my house. Won't. Leave.'
I definitely would love if he was part of some kind of online group for unholy magic users, and he's one of the 'big brother' figures of the chat because he's just that good when his rituals aren't being derailed by surprise catgirls.
Some of the people he asks for advice are future baddies. This leads to season 3's finale being utterly derailed as THE DARK ONE realizes- "Wait, JusticarHell63??What are you doing here?!"

The Ford Pinto was a functioning car, but when they began crash tests they realized a major flaw in its construction. If the car was rear-ended, the fuel tank would almost always be punctured and the doors would deform in a way that prevented them from being opened. This meant that, not only was the car far more likely than normal to catch fire from an accident, but the occupants would be trapped inside in the situations that lead to a fire.
Ford got into a lot of trouble after releasing that onto the market and the car was soon recalled and rebuilt to not be a death trap.

Ok, from what I see when I hear this story. A scene where magical girls a dancing and transforming, the scene soon zooms out a bit to reveal a man in ranger combat gear(fallout NV) just face palming
it looks like he's about to transform too but all the sequence does for him is pan up to his face with his hand over it. in later episodes the hand is replaced by just whatever facial expression he happened to be making at the time.

if this was an anime it would be the kind with an emphasis on parody, flashy battles, and highjinks involving the demonologist and the magical girls. for added comedy effect, incorperate a joke about the original grimdark setting idea. demons everywhere, monsters threatening humanity, and the demonologist working to protect humanity with dark supernatural powers, only for the demonologist to be suddenly sucked through or go through a mysterious portal that seems to be where all the monsters and demons are coming from, arriving in modern day tokyo...the ultimate joke being the magical girls are so bad at their jobs of actually destroying the monsters and villains in this city, despite their best efforts due to them being insanely powerful but also so irresponsible with those powers that they keep having the monsters getting away, where they escape through the portal to threaten the demonologists reality. demonologist ends up helping the magical girls for his own selfish reasons of protecting his own world, at least until he can find a way to get back home after disabling the rift between their worlds...or perhaps he is about to head back home after he tells the magical girls about the rift and they decide to close the rift, trapping the demonologist unwittingly in their world.
I could imagine the bunch of guys playing this
