    1. Using heavy products- too heavy for YOUR hair (especially near the top of their hair)
    2. Not using protein - moisture will stretch out your curls and protein will help your curls hold their shape and give you definition. But test it on a strand of your hair first
    3. Not using enough product. If your hair is too frizzy you're often not using enough product.
    4. Applying products in the wrong order. Moisture followed by gel usually.
    5. Pineappling your hair overnight. It works for some people but for some people it just stretches out your curls.
    6. Following the curly girl method. it doesnt work for everyone!
    7. Finger combing your hair too much after washing your hair.
    8. Using too much strong hold product- itll make your hair too crispy

Every single point you made in this vid is what I've been doing for the last 3 weeks, and finally my hair is in the best condition it's been since last year. My hair is 2a-2b and I was on the curly girl journey for 8 months, and I could never get it to work for me. I switched products all the time to see if something would work, because no CG-approved styling product worked for me. Shampoos and conditioners no problem, but styling products just didn't do anything, my hair was terrible for 8 months. I couldn't make the pineapple thing work for me either, I would wake up with flat roots and super frizzy everything-else. About a month ago I reached the conclusion that the advice that curly youtubers give doesn't work for my wavy hair, and I began to watch strictly wavy hair content (this is how I found your channel), and now things are finally working out for me. I'd say that my hair was too moisturized for too long because curly influencers say you must moisturize a lot, but I've realized that wavy hair needs less moisture and more protein. Now that I'm adding more protein in my routine and removing the moisture-centric routine, my hair is no longer frizzy, it feels soft and amazing instead of overcooked spaguetti, and my definition is coming back very suddenly. Thank you for putting "wavy" in your titles, that's how I found your channel, it feels like there's not enough understandable content about wavy hair on yt, and your vids were super helpful.

A Shea moisture conditioner you might really like is the Jamaican black castor oil conditioner! I have the shampoo and conditioner. They’re both silicone and sulphate free, and they have protein in them. The shampoo doesn’t strip your hair and the conditioner is the ONLY conditioner I’ve ever been able to apply higher than my ears. I can apply 3/4 pumps through my hair and then one pump on my head. My hair is never ever weighed down from it. And everything weighs my hair down. You should try it!

I just followed you on insta and was so surprised to see you speaking about Christianity! It made me happy because I’ve been out of church a while because I didn’t like the attitudes I was experiencing from people. I would literally cringe at post about God and felt really convicted about it. But I don’t cringe about yours because they feel from the heart and from a happy, wholesome, real place in your heart. I feel better now, knowing I’m not turning my back on faith, I just was looking for more genuine words and more real-ness from believers 💛

Your videos are so much more real and relatable. I knew my hair was wavy and recently started using a diffuser to dry my hair some months ago, with zero product. It gets quite a lot of curl but obviously it was a frizzy mess so I still had to brush it out. I just decided I'm going to try to really do this right. I believe mines between 2b-c and will see what happens.

You’re so right about the pineapple! I have fine and thin hair and I’ve noticed that the pineapple crushes my hair and takes away the volume from the top, so I’m gonna stop it and just keep my sleeping bonnet. I’ve been doing the CGM for about 6 months and I’ve learned to recognize what works and what doesn’t. Your video about the hair cut also helped me a lot, especially since videos for anything below a 2c are so hard to find. Thanks a lot!

My hair is almost exactly like yours as far as the waves go so I appreciate your input! You’re so right on all points. I’m doing well with a sulfate free shampoo followed by a magnificent conditioner that I found called Pura D’or cleansing conditioner that’s more of a conditioner than cleanser but it has 100% healed the bleach damage that I had! Can’t live without it. I usually only use Moroccanoil Smoothing Lotion and no gel or mousse and it works really well but I think I’ll try using some gel soon to get even better definition. I’m also trying root clipping for more volume at the roots.

Melinda, I was wondering how do you style your hair when you have to dress up for sn important event. My hair is naturally like yours and I'm trying not to use heat on my curls ( i still diffuse dry) how can we look polished? The wavy hair maybe doesn't match some of my classic styled dresses.

We have the exact same hair and mind is 🤯 I used to hate my wavy hair. I got in my head that dark black hair was ugly so I used to dye and bleach a lot and along that I would straighten it bc yup I also convinced my self that my hair was ugly bc it wasn’t naturally straight or curly it was just there and then this year i started to realize how pretty my hair is and the color. I’m barely a week in but I’ve started taking care of it more letting the waves do its thing. 🥰 and yeah I just really like it and I’m glad we have the same hair type 😊

I'm not sure if I'm using too many products actually, I'm new to this. I've been using Tigi after party which is a conditioning cream that helps with frizz, a curl cream by Tigi called curls rock which feels very light, plus some mousse and a heat protector spray. It seems to depend on what shampoo and conditioner I use how good my results are aswell. The first couple of times I tried products I was just using the curl cream and some mousse and my waves seemed better I even had a little curl at the ends. Maybe I'm using too much product now. Also I was scrunching my hair in my hand to dry it. This is the way I was taught by a hair dresser in the days before diffusers. I didn't have a diffuser at the time. IDK I just liked the look of my hair when doing it this way. I'm still not sold on using a diffuser.

New subscriber here! :) You have such healthy hair!! I also have a 2a-2b hair and I’m soo glad I found your channel. Right now I‘m trying the no poo method with some DIY all natural ingredient hair products. I still haven‘t have the „perfect routine“ for me as I‘m still struggling with everything lol. I‘m actually planning to make a curl cream with shea butter but good thing I saw this video. I did feel like shea butter is heavy for my hair because I was using Cantu activating curl cream before and it made me „lose“ my waves. I‘ll follow these advices and incorporate them on creating my very own routine and then listen to my own hair :) Thank you soo much!! Please do keep making videos for wavy hair ♥️

my goal was to find a moisturizer that let my hair do what it wants to do without any high maintenance routine. so i refused to do the curly girl thing. after trial and error i did find 2 products. found out i have 2c hair and not 2b. now all i do after the wash and application is a daily morning mist with water and comb with wide tooth comb. other than that i set it and forget it. i do not put it up to sleep, i have to wear it down.

This was so helpful thank you! But I find the crispy crunchy look is only there if you dont scrunch out the crunch like you're supposed to. You shouldnt just leave the crispy crunch in, that's just to set the wave then you scrunch it out to get soft hair with no crunch. If I dont get the crisp, I completely lose my waves. I just always get rid of the crunch by scrunching once its dried.

    • @melindab
      @melindab  4 года назад +2

Definitely! Although some products give me a gross crunch that won’t scrunch out no matter how hard I try it’s just hard and almost greasy idk it’s so odd lol but yes I definitely like the crunch so it’ll prevent frizz and then I scrunch it out!

    • @rileypaigemc7018

Im the same way! If I don’t use a really strong hold product, then my hair needs to be over 75% dry before I put the product in or it’s just so heavy that the waves fall out. I get super different results with the two different routines though so I’m still figuring it out
