Awesome Collection of Cod Lures Robbie. My Pet Cod always gets more active this time of year as the water warms up to 20+ degrees. Best of Luck for Cod Season.
Good selection of starters mate. Id be changing that little spinner blade to a treble on the front of the pompy. I dont think I have ever hooked up on the rear treble of that lure haha. Look forward to seeing some cod fishing vids from you soon ate 👊
Got a few hooks to change there Robbie! Don't let a buggered hook lose you a fish, I'm bloody keen for cod opening i recently bought a house with the Gwydir River right behind it! Good luck on Tuesday 👍
What size line do you run on them big lures ? ( I go with 15 to 20 braid ) And spinerbait try the purple skirt or red&black skirt I get a lot of cod of them colours
The pompadour you have isn’t the standard version. You have a catfish custom. They normally have trebles in place of the blade and no glow stick holder on the head
Hey mate, no it is illegal to target Murray cod in the closed season mate. I catch a few in my video tonight while using worms and targeting yrllowbelly. I would have loved to put a lure on but I didn't because it is illegal to knowingly target them. There are a few lakes that are open all year round though.
Thanks mate. No doubt I will use some during the season..on opening i prefer to run with my old faithfuls just to get back into the rhythm if you know what I mean.
Better change the front hook on the Old Mate, looks a bit jacked up. I'd add a tape measure in the kit, just if by strange chance you forget yours... Keep up the great work and the best of luck to you!
I often take one of the hooks off my lures. 2 treble hooks equals 6 hooks, I don't think that many is needed. The main reason however that I take one treble hook off, is that unhooking the fish is a horrible experience if both treble hooks are caught in the fish, you take one out with the little pliers, and then you have to work on the second one and just hope the first one doesn't hook into the fish again while is shaking. I found it a lot easier to just remove one treble hook from my lures, it still catches the fish just as easily, and it's much easier to unhook the fish once I catch it. The hook I usually leave on is the back one, I take the front one off. Then unhooking is easy, with my left hand I wear a thick rubber glove, looks like a gardening glove, I hold the fish by the mouth with this, while my right hand controls the pointy angled pliers that can grab the treble hook and push it backwards and pull it out. I also don't even use large lures or try to catch large cod, because they are the breeders and you should release them anyway, plus my line and such isn't strong enough. So I purposely use lures of about 5-6cm long only, and I use only a 6 foot rod and light 4.5-5kg line. With this setup you can catch 40cm Yellowbelly, those are the upper limits of usually what will go for these lure sizes, usually the huge cod would ignore a lure of this size, which is good, since I don't want to catch those anyway. You will sometimes catch smaller cod on these, but you have to release them anyway, since anything smaller than 55cm is not legal size anyway. My setup is purpose built to hunt good edible sized Yellowbelly, plus any Redfin if they are around, and even Silver Perch (though, those are rare). Luckily the carp have never taken any of my lures, which is good, because carp are crazy fighters and often can snap light line, I have caught a 50cm carp once and it literally put up a bigger fight than a 70cm cod, I don't know what makes the carp so powerful, but the fight they put up is crazy. But again, I have no trouble with them as they don't go for lures. Yellowbelly and Redfin are my favourite. It's fun to catch a Cod, they are incredibly pretty, however it's nearly always a release job with the cod, so you aren't likely going to be getting a nice meal. Plus they grow and breed so slow that I don't take a cod even if it was a legal size. I have never really found an area to reliably catch Silver Perch. It appears that the Golden Perch outcompetes the Silver Perch, and so there are only specific areas of the state where Silver Perch are common, thanks to fisheries stocking them. Not complaining however, the Golden Perch is blatantly a superior fish than the Silver Perch.
one time I walked in to a room and I saw a man and a dwarf and I soon found out that the man was the dwarfs father and I noticed that the dwarf really looked up to him
@@robbiefishing sure are mate I was telling Rohan about my old mate lure that I had a fees years back that I caught a reddie on it just stuffing around in the dam lol. If I have no luck this cod season on lures then you will be having a visit from me lol
I noticed a lot of your lures have bent hooks. If I where you I would go and get some replacements. That could be the difference of you catching a metery or you catching nothing. 🎣🎣
Ha! Robbie, I must have wasted two hours yesterday tracking all those down and bookmarking them off your patreon channel. Will use the list above, instead!! Lures and beer are essentials aren't they??? PP
How good are the old mate divers, definitely a “go-to” for me aswell
They're bloody awesome Mark. I can't wait to toss a few around next week.
Hey guys I’m about 3 years late but we’re can I get an old mate lure?
