- Let's get this show on the road. M48 Patton vs T-55 is one of those "What IF" scenarios about fictional WW3 during the heat of the US and Soviet Union conflict in the 50s-60s. Today's editor cinematics was inspired by Fulda Gap, an infamous strategic location located in central Germany. First Generation MBTs are here, on one side we have the most-produced tank in the world and history, T-55. An excellent tank during its time while on the other hand, we have a powerful counterpart American M48 Patton however the T-54/T-55 is considered better.
As tank convoys roll in, we're getting closer to the escalation of this duel.

This happened in Vietnam during the Easter Offensive, battle of FSB Pedro, the M48s rolled in and had a duel with T55/54s and Type 59s of North Vietnam from a distance of 2000 meters. 5 T55s were wiped out but none of the m48s were ever eliminated
Because the troops couldn’t use them properly
One, I wasn't a tanker but I had several friends that were. Two, I know for a fact, tanks would not be sitting idle on opposing ridgelines shooting it out and moving to get a better position to shoot. Throw in some maneuvering and see how things play out. I've worked along side the M60 quite a few times which is the M48's successor.
M48 never used the M82 APCBC as the default shell for its 90mm cannon. Which is M332 APCR/HVAP and M348 HEAT-FS

Which is why it's totally outclass by a 100mm Gun but it was received upgrade of a A5 variants which isn't totally invalid during the match which gives a rivalry advantage over the T-55

The M48 is not withdrawn. The ROC maintains the Cm12, a highly improved M48 that uses the M1 Abrams fire control, and has the M68A1 cannon which with the proper ammo has no issue knocking out the Ztz96

The M1a2T is an interesting choice, but it isn't all that strong from what I've heard. It lacks the DU armour of a real M1a2 and it lacks an APS system. The new FCS and 120mm gun can help even the odds against a Ztz99 but I think it'd still be a first shot first kill scenario

T-55 is much stronger. They have thicker amour and stronger cannons. Moreover, T-55 are on the hills, they have so big advantage.
they wouldn't be able to hulldown on a hill very well if at all given their ridiculously low gun depression.

What if nazi germany still exist in the cold war and they use post ww2 tanks and prototype tanks like King Tiger, Pz VII Lowe and maus against the cold war soviet union and they have t55, t62, etc.
In fact we already have a video of King Tiger vs T55 but there are certainly more possibilities with Lowe and Maus

You gave the M48 its weakest possible ammunition, and you overestimated the penetration power of the 100mm APBC shell greatly, granted you're likely going by incorrect information that came from WW2B:AG, which is more suited for BR-412D. The M48 in the 50's had access to M348 HEAT, which could penetrate 12" (305mm at vertical, 152mm at 60 degrees) at any range, v90 standard. And by 1958 had M431 Heat which could penetrate 13.4" (340mm vertical, 170 at 60) at any range, v90 standard. They also had M332A1 HVAP, though that would be more useful at close range, about 12.6"(320mm) at 1000yds or 9.1"(231mm) at 2000 yards vertical.

as far as i remmber T-55A also access to 100mm steel APFSDS shell 3BM25 which much more effective than HEAT , HVAP or APDS , along with 3BK17M HEAT-FS and 3BM-8 APDS
@@tranbachuyen6655 3bm25 wasn't until the late 70s, 3bm8 wasn't till about 67. And they didn't have heat for the gun to mid 60s iirc too.

Note: back then, the T-64 could penetrate abrams frontal armor, and withstand western 105mm apds, but the m1 was faster, and had better optics

@@tin9759 the m900a1 appeared in the 90s. This scenario occurs in the 80s, back when the US 105mm apfsds could penetrate up to 420mm

soviet made T-55A isn't out date 50s T-54 , it was new different beast that fire 100mm APFSDS shell 3BM25 , along with 3BK17M HEAT-FS and 3BM-8 APDS . all those shell will eat any kind of M48/M60 alive without any problem in an EQUAL fight . not only that in 80s the upgrade T-55AM-1 also come with extra composite armor on the hull and turret and 9M117 Bastion ATGM capable

Great video, but I still feel the GoH effects are rather lacklustre compared to some of the AS2 mods. Also, many of the GoH effects have particles turned off so they can run on lesser machines. Have you considered tunring them on (bulk replace ## with # in the effect files) to have a really particles and sprite rich battleground? THanks again for your great work (if only we could play these maps ;) )

One small problem. Unlike Western practice of generally preferring to fight with an open TC's hatch, Soviet practice was to enter combat with all hatches shut and dogged down.
Westerns don't fight with open hatches in the middle of the war. Do you just only listen to propaganda?

Why 30 vs 20 when almost ten times more T-55s were produced? Also, Soviet Army fielded far more tanks compared to the US army and other Western armies.

Tanks armed with German 88mm guns could not penetrate the front armor of 54/55 tanks.
In Yugoslav testing, the front of the T-54 turret could only be penetrated by PzGr-39-1 APCBC shells fired from the KwK-43 88mm gun on the Tiger II tank at a distance of more than 600 meters. The front bodywork is completely impenetrable, even from 100 meters.

A test with the M3A1 90mm cannon mounted on the M47 Patton checked that the T-54's armor was very good by the standards of the time. The 90mm T33 APBC round is completely unable to penetrate the front of the T-54 turret at any range, the front part of the turret side can only be defeated at very close range of 250 meters. Problem is , they are not taking into account things like velocity . That is very important . The difference between the 75mm used in the panther , vs the 75 used in the panzer four . They are both the same cal . , but the one in the panther was high velocity , and had FAR greater pennitration . The US 90mm , was the better gun in this case . It also was high velocity . Thats the problem , when variables . There was a reason why all US tanks from after WW2 , up until the M1 Abrams , were equipped with that gun .

But interestingly when they actually met in combat in the Middle East, the M48 came out very much on top. The game doesn't take into account training and logistics. Similarly, M60s crushed T62 AND T72 tanks in the early 80s in Lebanon. Again, not what a computer simulation would have anticipated. Russian weapons are over estimated by the Russians for xenophobic and propaganda purposes and over estimated in the west to justify large defense contracts for the military industrial complex. Both sides cheat up Russian capabilities. The proof is in the Ukrainian pudding.
Clearly over estimated the armor of the T-55 reference Valley of Tears during the Yom Kippur War.
T55s in the Yom Kippur War were knocked out by guns capable of killing them , israël didn't even use M48s they used centurions, shermans and M60s plus captured T series tanks

If it was a m48a3 patton tank. T55 would have lost. Not to mention. M48 patton is a much more modern mbt compared to the T55. Those out there saying m48 isn't used anymore need to go do some research. It is still in active service. With some countries.

If you are talking about the upgunned version of the m48, you have choosen the wrong tank, since the m48a5 is what you are looking for, the m48a3 has improvements, but it is nothing special compared to what t-55 already had. T-55's were better, they were simply crewed by untrained arabs and third world countries that ruined its reputation. Also, stop calling the M48 an MBT, it is not, both T-55 and M48 in all versions were medium tanks, the first main battle tank was the T-62
