    I was pretty new to FPP, but thanks to Joyful and Merry, I was able to make my first scrap quilt following her tutorial. That was great, but there was still the matter of stitching to the paper blindly, and fabruc placement hoping I covered enough area and I really fell apart making a star block at a retreat last week, so I'm determined to try your techniques (love your postcard ruler hack) and I just know it will go well. Thank you so much! I subscribed and shared your video with my sister who struggled along with the rest of us at the retreat, too! Wishing you all the best! ❤🎉😊

    I start my first retreat tomorrow and I know we are doing one small paper piecing project so I figured I should watch a couple of videos to familiarize myself and get an idea of what I've gotten myself into. OMG, still confused but I'm sure they will make sure we get it in the class.

      I’m sure you will do great. It just takes some practice and then it will sink in. It’s actually my favorite kind of sewing to do when I don’t want to have to think much! Now anyway, in the beginning, no way!! Repetition and you will get it, I promise! Enjoy your retreat! 🥰

    It was nice meeting you today! Thank you again for all these great tips! I learned how to do paper pieces from watching your videos. Your tutorials are all great. I think one thing that still gives me trouble ( & anxiety ) is when I am doing smaller blocks and the pieces are even smaller… any tricks or help when dealing with itty bitty pieces would be appreciated. 😊

      It was really nice meeting you at the show! Do you live in Tehachapi? We would love to have you join us at the guild meetings. Let me know if you are interested. I am just getting into miniatures, so I can add this to the list of upcoming video ideas. Hope you enjoyed the show!

    I have found that my hot hemmer makes the perfect foldover aid. Great demo. Genius tip on the hinge. I've managed to misplace my small AAQ ruler. I'm putting its picture on a milk carton. Maybe someone will call!

    Thanks for a great detailed & encouraging video. I just received block #1 out of 9 & I have never done FPP. I am scared to death I will cut wrong & ruin the 1st block so will take it slow. 🤞

    Thank you for this tutorial. It really helped me understand the process. However, I am always searching for recommendations on what size needles and thread to use for FPP. Can you specify what I should use? Thanks again

    • @quiltedfromtheroots
      @quiltedfromtheroots  3 месяца назад

      So glad it was helpful! Needles and thread…this varies depending on who you ask. I like to use a 50 wt thread or 60 wt if I am working with really small pieces. I like to use a size 70 needle but sometimes I forget and use an 80. I think it is more important to use appropriate needle size to match your thread weight. Aka Smaller pieces, thinner thread, smaller needle. Hope this helps!!

    This is great! When do you tear the paper off?

    • @quiltedfromtheroots
      @quiltedfromtheroots  24 дня назад +1

      So glad you enjoyed it! It depends on what I am making. The paper helps to stabilize everything, so if I need that, I keep it in. The soonest I can tear it off and not need stabilization or help with lining things up, the better, because tearing paper out of the seams is no fun at all! Hope this helps! I will add this to my list of questions for paper piecing part 2 and try to show some examples 👍

    Really enjoy your video. I’ve been really thinking about giving this a try and just might since I’ve watched this. One question tho….when finishing piece 5, it really sounds like you used steam while pressing it. Is that what I like to call, an OOOPS!, or just a touch of background noise?

    • @quiltedfromtheroots
      @quiltedfromtheroots  2 месяца назад +1

      So glad you found it helpful! I went back to watch, the iron I am using isn’t a steam iron, so it must have been some background noise. Sorry for the confusion! Steam will shrink the paper so you definitely don’t want to use any steam!

    do you still make the material larger or go by your measurements. This is my first time learning paper piecing. Sometimes I feel you go a little to fast I try as best as I can and I keep playing it over numerous time and I just have to keep playing until get it right I hope you do more tutorials and hope to be able to follow better. I am a quilter and this is so different. Thank you

    • @quiltedfromtheroots
      @quiltedfromtheroots  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Linda! Yes, you want to make your fabric quite a bit larger than the “shape” you need to cover, because it needs to extend at least 1/4” beyond all the edges of your shape and you want to have wiggle room so you don’t have to worry about being so precise. Most patterns will tell you what size to precut your pieces of fabric. Maybe I could try to make a video about how to know what size to cut your fabric if the pattern doesn’t tell you. Would that be helpful to you? Hopefully that answers your question! If not, feel free to reach back out! Another quick tip, in the settings on RUclips, you can actually slow the speed down so that the video is slower. Maybe this could help in the parts that are too quick. And don’t forget about pausing! Just don’t give up! Paper piecing is one of those things that always confused me, but once it finally clicked, it actually became my go to for when I don’t want to have to think a lot about what I’m sewing!

    I was hoping to see the piecing of the strip in the main picture. I don't know the term they use.... the picture that I clicked on to see this video. It has a strip pieced with skinny points. Where would I find that video?

    • @quiltedfromtheroots
      @quiltedfromtheroots  5 месяцев назад +2

      I don’t currently have a video for that one. It is part of a Jacqueline de Jonge pattern. I have had a lot going on personally and kind of put RUclips on hold, but I just reached 800 subscribers and I promised I would make a video if I reached 800. I have another row to do like the one in the photo and I can include it in the video, but I won’t be able to give the pattern away. I had a few other comments/questions, so I was thinking about making a part 2 to this video. Would it be helpful for you to watch this being made??

    • @annpersonal1097
      @annpersonal1097 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@quiltedfromtheroots Yes! I would love to see you piece that. I have more trouble with very pointed triangles when paper piecing than anything else.

    • @quiltedfromtheroots
      @quiltedfromtheroots  5 месяцев назад

      Okay! I will add that into the part 2 of the video!! I also had a request for how to know how big to cut your fabric if the pattern doesn’t tell you what size to cut the fabric, so that will also be in the video!

      Martelli rotary cutter. Comes in a left and right handed version. I prefer their 45 mm. It still cuts through a TON of layers easily and I feel like I get a straighter cut with it vs the 60 mm.
