Best FPP tutorial I’ve ever seen with freezer paper… and I’ve watched dozens! Most demonstrators do not provide such excellent explanations. For the first time I see the advantage to using freezer paper! Thank you.
When I use freezer paper or bondaweb I place a piece of baking parchment over the work to protect the iron. This is a brilliant tutorial thank you for sharing this 👍❤️
I never tried FPP, but I’ve used freezer paper to trace patterns for garments, just iron on fabric for cutting. Thanks for the paper link. I have never seen this before
Becca! This is a beautifully presented tutorial and I love the freezer paper FPP... hence FP FPP. Your sample even showed how you oculd fussy cut in placement of that first one. The colors and placement were perfect.
Love your tutorial! If you have an 'edge foot" use that to ride right along the edge of the paper. So easy. Most machine brands have one. For Bernina its #10, #10C or #10D. Thank you for a great tutorial!
Wow! I had given up on the paper piecing idea a while ago. For some reason, I clicked on your tutorial for my nightmare subject today and voila - the solution! Thanks for taking the time to patiently show us your method and validate that there is more than one way to do things in this craft. Super duper!
Great tutorial. Sure looks easier than sewing on the paper and then having to get the paper off. Thanks. I loved the block. The fabric you picked was great.
I found EPP very confusing and daunting before your video. Your way of accomplishing this is so much more clear and makes so much more sense. Thank goodness you made this video or I may never have wanted to try this new skill. Thank you so much and my hope is that this method can be used for ALL projects with FPP. P.S. Your voice is so soothing that I could listen to you all day! I plan on watching all of your previous videos and can’t wait to learn new skills from you. 😊
Aww, thanks for the compliments Jane! My friend, Ian, is posting a more in-depth tutorial on FPP. Perhaps this video - combined with his (which launches this weekend) - will give you the courage to try FPP!
@@sewbecca I already have Ian on my calendar 📅 and we’re even in the same time zone, TX and WI. This is a great video for FPP. I’ve heard many people talk about it but never quite understood when it came to not stitching through the paper. My brain couldn’t grasp it without seeing it. It makes perfect sense now. Thank you so much!
This is so cool. I am a newer quilter, so I just love learning new ( new to me) techniques. You demonstrate and explain very well. You make this seem easier than I expected. Thank you for sharing this with us.😊❤
I never saw the need for paper piecing until now and just how simple it is to get perfect designs every time! I was planning to get some just for applique quilts and now that I've seen the benefits, I'll be buying freezer Paper in larger quantities now! Thank You, Becca!
Great video! I have heard about not using paper and was hesitant to try. After watching your video with great details, i think I can attempt it. Thank you!
Fantastic! I just discovered your videos, and I'm am hooked! I've been binge watching your videos at night. You are so well spoke. So clear in your instructions. So enthusiastic about what you're doing! Makes me want to join you! Woohoo! But for the time being, I shall live vicariously through you. 😊 Thanks for sharing your experience and quilt time.
Waw! At last I understand the FPP, THANKS A LOT! I want to make a dog’s face FPP for a 8” x 8” bag”s pocket. Can you please do one explanation like this one with a dog’s face? I will love to sew along with you. Pleeeeaaassseee!
Since you aren't stitching on the line, does it change the size of the block when you are finished? Great tutorial on FPP, clear explanations. Thank you.
This is how I do it too! I’ve only tried simple blocks like a circle of geese. But I like this method better than sewing through the paper. Thanks for this video.
Oh, this would be an amazing way to make random scrappy patchwork in the shape of a clothing pattern too! Just cut out the shapes from this paper (well, several pieces of the paper, since it's not very wide) and then just fill it up from roughly the centre with fabric scraps. I'm planning to make a jacket in this way, and my initial thought was to just wing it until I have a big enough patchwork to cut to shape. This will enable me to pre-plan some shapes and fabric placements, and also limit waste!
Thank you sew much for this amazing tutorial. I have a Tall Tales FPP pattern I've been dying to make, but was too intimidated - Your freezer paper method is a game changer!!! Already ordered my freezer paper and can't wait to try this out.
Really genius Becca. Thank you so much. It highlighted so many things for me as a beginner quilter who really wants to do an economy block quilt. I wanted to use a couple of charm packs. Now that I see the waste, I realize to use the amount that I have I can't do FPP. I would require a layer cake. Things a beginning quilter can't visualize. I've done wool applique, so I love freezer paper and think it is the best!! I appreciate your warning me off of over-generalizing the method. Happy Holidays!
Unfortunately, FPP does produce some waste. There are methods you can take to really minimize it, but the thought process really just completely causes me to freeze up. I try not to overthink it and just go with the flow!
One way to efficiently use fabric is to cut oversized pieces that fit comfortably within the allotted space + seam allowance. I use ~1/4-1/2" upsize. A corner clipper ruler is your friend as it cuts with seam allowances, and will help you size the triangle if you are uncomfortable with quilter's math. I find that a hot hemmer makes the perfect creasing tool. If you have one, give it a try.
Thanks Becca for sharing this. I think I saw one other person do this and it appears to me to be the best way since you don’t have to tear the paper off. Saves printing lots and lots of copies of the pattern! Can’t wait to I’ve this a try. I love to do FPP. You have a better chance of getting a perfectly square block and no points getting lost in the process.
Someday I’m going to give this a try. I’m not ready to venture into yet another new skill. I will remember to reference your video when the time comes. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas to you & yours. 👍❤️😊

Great way to do FPP! I’ve done a few quilts with the paper templates, and it’s so hard to take off the paper in tight corners. Can’t wait to try it with freezer paper.
I can't wait to give this a go! I've always wanted to try it but thought it was a bit meh, too complicated but you explained it so clearly, I am super excited to do it! Thank you Becca ❤❤
To get less waste you could in this case also start with a smaller square, still covering the seam allowance and cut the triangles from squares divided diagonally. Interesting method!
Great tutorial and I will add this to my bucket list by purchasing freezer paper cuts asap. A new year is coming and plenty of fabric is available to start a project. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas and best wishes for a Happy New Year.
Great tutorial, but word of caution. Freezer paper can only go through an inkjet printer. Do not put freezer paper into a laser printer.
