This is such a great video and Ashelyn is very brave. Thank you so much for showing us your work. You should be beyond proud of your beautiful quilt. These are very cool ideas and ways to connect kids to sewing. When I worked with my oldest granddaughter, we cut the end square in half on every other row so they offset. This made matching seams unnecessary for a first try pillow. Something to try for new beginners. She eventually made a beautiful tree skirt for her mom for Xmas which is a huge treasure. Jenny has a great tutorial on that and it was a great project when she got more serious. Thank you so much for sharing your quilt Ashelyn!
Really enjoyed this. I hope you can do more with your daughter. It’s a great time with the pandemic keeping kids from school to learn to sew. Having your daughter do some small projects will give them the confidence to learn from her.
Your daughter did a fantastic job on her quilt. It is beautiful. Nice colors and layout.
The loving and easy mother/daughter relationship there is just plain heartwarming. I don't have children but decided to watch this hoping for just such an experience...something that might bring me joy during these difficult times. Thank you both. And thank you as well, Liz, for the pacing and respectful timing of your questions. Your approach made for a tension-free show.
Very sweet to see Misty and Ashelyn working together.
What a lovely peaceful video. Misty you are so patient, Ashlyn is a star. I loved Liz’s gentle well timed contributions. THANK YOU from England.
How wonderful to show a young quilter and her beginner projects. I hope that there will be many more.
This is a really gr8 video, I teach beginners with cut outs of canvas coz I never thought of using paper to give them stitching practice...many useful tips, thank you, Misty and Ashley
Brilliant! That quilt is brilliant. And what a great way to teach sewing!💕
Ashelyn, you are doing a great job! Keep up the good work!😄❤️
Such a great memory for Misty and Ashelyn. Ashelyn was so good at showing us what she learned. Way to go.
It's so amazing! Great job! And sewing with kids - it's really on time - now kids are always at home and can get a new hobby. As my 5 yo was seeing how I do patchwork, she asked for a pieces of fabric, needle and choose bright thread. And she sew it!
Ashelyn your quilt is so awesome! I love your fabrics and how you laid them out. Nice job! 😊
This is such a sweet video. Ashelyn has done an amazing job! Love the interaction between Misty and her daughter. I'd say that Ashelyn is a future face of MSQC.
What a great idea to teach kids (or even adults!) how to sew! I love those practice sheets. Ashlynn has really improved and her sewing skills are great! Beautiful quilt!
My granddaughter is 4 I bought the safety foot from nancys notions works great no fingers she is just starting and loves it. Set her up at her little table. Of course I sit on the floor next to her. Oh the joy I get from watching her sew.
Such a GREAT mom!!! You can see the relationship and how easy it is!
Beautiful quilt! I love your nails!😊
What a beautiful quilt Ashelyn, you should be very proud of yourself.
Just beautiful,well done.
God bless those little hands so nice to see how close you are. Your a beautiful family inside and out. Good job sweetie!!!
Ashely (sorry if the spelling is incorrect, this Dutch lady sometimes goes wrong), I learned to quilt with my mum at 6 and it's a great memory i'll have off her for the rest off my life. Last week i cleaned up my sowingroom na bumped in to my first project and it sure put a smile on my face, just as i saw your smile when you looked at your earlier work. Keep om having fun!
Ashelyn looks so much like her mom! Thank you both for sharing these great tips. 🥰
These are things I learned as a beginner, too!
🤩 her quilt is gorgeous!!! What a wonderful mother daughter moment! So proud I bet you both are🥰
Beautiful quilt Ashelyn, sewing on your own already, way to go! Great tips Misty.
I quilt with my grandchildren and Ethan who is eight can sew quite well. Julia who is 5, pushes the foot pedal down very gently with her hands while I run the fabric through. She feels like she is contributing and is a part of the process. I am thrilled they are showing interest at such an early age.
Thank you Ladies! Ashelyn's quilt is just terrific!! Excellent video
What a lovely quilt and very talented 11 yr old
That was so cool that you had your daughter show her skills and improvements over the years thank you Ashlyn (I hope i spelled your name correctly) for showing us your beautiful quilt!!
Well done Ashlyn your a pro just like grandma Jenny and your mum. Stay safe and healthy. 🇬🇧
Wow, awesome, awesome quilt Ashelyn! Look at those perfect corners! Great video...
Misty you have to be so proud❤️❤️ and Ashelyn you are Awesome!!!!!
What a great job I am retired FCS teacher and I loved to sew with the junior high. We made this same quilt but lap top version for our first quilt project. Awesome MOM
Her quilt came out great! Fantastic job!
Thank you for this video-my granddaughter and I love to sew together. Lovely nails Ashlyn!
Congratulations!! Beautiful quilt ❤️
Great job, Ashelyn! The quilt is so pretty. I'm very talented at un-threading the needle, too. 😊
Hello from Germany. Such a pretty pretty quilt. Ashelyn, you can be so proud of yourself. I finished my first quilt when I was 28... unfortunately my son is not that interessted in sewing. But last week we made him a t-shirt together. Maybe you like to have a quick view (my name is _lynaed_ there. But it's all in German). Great job, Ashelyn 🥰
It's that Shirt with the guitar and the fish and sharks fabric
I can’t wait for my closest grandsons to get closer to 8 years old. I’ve been teaching one of the 6 year olds how to sew with a needle and thread and he’s enjoying that!
Awe amazing, such a great job she did for being so young. So nice to share and she is adorable. I can't believe you have kids I t hought you were so young. Wow.
Barb from Tallahassee, FL. Great video. Will share with my granddaughters in Louisiana - two future quilters!
Beautiful job Ashelyn!
Very pretty! Good job!
Great job, mom and daughter.
Yes around 8 is a great age to begin. I have two grand daughters that have started sewing. I am making one of them a quilt for her birthday and she made one of the blocks. Itès a fun quilt called Fancy Forest by Elizabeth Hartman and it really excited her to be able to make one of the foxes. I can imagine her forever pointing out the block that she made.
Just delightful!
That is such a great great quilt!
Super sweet...I taught my Granddaughter to use a sewing machine when she was about 6. Years later, I realized I never taught her how to hand sew!
What a great job Ashelyn!
I need the practice lines myself ! Very pretty quilt too !
Thanks for sharing. Great job!!!!!
your daughter is a Doan for sure!! Too cute. Great job.
What a cutie! Great video!
I've started my 6, almost 7 year old grandgirl on sewing lessons. Pillows and doll quilts so far. She will love this video. Lessons stopped with this virus thing. Sigh.
What a great job!
I taught my 4-H era to sew with the papers also. I also had a paper with wavy lines. I did another class with them on making the pillow cases, and another with simple pj pants.
Nancy, that’s how I learned! But I was given pattern papers with lines and waves, then scrap fabric. And yeah, I think my first real sewing project was pajama pants, and I was so frustrated because the way they came together made no sense to me at first! 😁
Thank goodness for teachers like you, because there are those of us newbies would never have continued sewing without your knowledge and support.
So fun Ashelyn. I just watched you make a skirt with your grandma last week. I think it was video from last year.
Wisconsin
I need the practice for myself!
I love this so much!!
I have a granddaughter that would love to learn to sew , she will soon be 5 yrs old. Have you all thought about putting together a curriculum, I would buy it!
Would be awesome to put together a few kits, including borders and backing, so that would be even less decision making for the kids.
She can now CUT those small starter quilts and resew them to make a funky design..No need to worry about the stitching being perfect..
how do u match colours and designs so they will look good when finished...do u follow some kind of color matching guide?
That's why we use precuts from a line... they're pre-coordinated by the designer!
Hi Liz!
🤩🤩🤩
What is a good age to start? My daughter wants to learn and she’s 7, but I don’t want her to get frustrated
As soon as they are interested! Don't have her start on a quilt for her first project. Have her make a pillowcase or a doll blanket. For hand sewing cut out orange circles and have her make pumpkins. My kids, boy and girl, didn't want to stop making pumpkins, so we have a lot ;) Good luck! Remember Laura Ingalls was very young when she started. ;)
Alison Allen that is such a great idea! Do you have a favorite pumpkin pattern?
@@mountaincountrytraditions6292 just trace any size circle, stitch around the edge, stuff, close up the top and add a stem from rolled up felt. At first, my kids needed help with the stem, but after watching me a few times they got the hang of it.
What is an abstract with fabrics

I thought you should not use magnets near a computerized machine?
Hi, Donna! That would apply if your computerized machine has a magnetic storage device inside, such as a hard disk drive. This one does not have any magnetic storage inside. Hope this helps!
