Yes, this recipe gives anyone with imagination a perfect springboard to work off of and create so many variations! Flavor also changed whether using ground beef, or pork or lamb or sausage....endless ideas. Thank you!
This looks good. But I already know I'm gonna tweak it: First, fry the bread in the butter, then flip, re-butter the pan and lay them all back out. Second, I'm not going to add more seasonings to the beef, but I will to the eggs, probably a little garlic powder, at least. Third - BACON! Spreading crumbled bacon over the whole thing right before pouring the eggs in sounds great. Last, I might switch out the mozzarella for a nice sharp cheddar. If I keep the mozz, perhaps swap the ground beef for Italian sausage removed from the casing (or made from scratch so I can control fat content), and then drizzle some marinara (heated on the stove) over the top once it's all done. Hmmmm, now I'm hungry...thanks for sharing.
I watched this video and the first thing that came to mind is That bread will be super soggy and greasy because it will soak up all the dripping from the ground beef. That's just the way it has to be. now if you were to do your own meat you could mitigate that some. I like your suggestions and I know how I would mitigate some of it as well.

I’ve been thinking about your comment and came back to say it seems like something you could make without the bread slices, add the tomato sauce and whatever else, then use the bread slices to scoop it up like a dip or bruschetta. made this tonight: takeaways. I heavily seasoned the meat with SPG, but it wasn't enough. I'll use some sort of burger rub, next time. I'll bake/toast the bread with a little olive oil and garlic powder first next time; I want them to retain some texture/crunch like in a french onion soup(I wont milk soak it). I will add an extra egg and use less milk for the binder/filler to be thicker with considerably more seasoning as well, and probably bump the temp to 375 or 400. Alternatively, I think there's room for a lot of good variants of this. Italian seasoning in the burger mix. Using cream of mushroom condensed soup as the binder instead of eggs, or mix the condensed soup with eggs instead of milk like the original to keep it thicker. I may pre-sear the burger patties to get more maillard reaction on the beef, and brush them with a tomato sauce for more umami. As is, this turned out to taste like a 6.5/10 recipe (but it smelled like a solid 9 while cooking). With the changes above I think it can easily hit that 9+.
I tried this and it's delicious, I did season the meat my way and I would try just the egg wash instead of soaking the bread. Either way thanks for the recipe idea.

This is a wonderful recipe!
Good idea for a meal. However, I would season the meat with some garlic as well. Even adding green and red bell peppers would be a good addition.
Was thinking the same. Also I'd top with a gravy vs the eggs and cheese.
