This is by far the best video on " how to hook up and use the One control crocodile tail loop" . I purchased mine in 2014 and had a very very hard time because the directions that came with it and the information on the internet was not very good . I ended up putting it in the closet and put my other looper back on my board . Thanks i can now use this nice looper as it should be used . I'm old school and all this midi and effects routing is new to me , a piece of plywood and a ton of cables and pedals is what i'm use to ... Thanks again for the help
Hey Jay, you have really helped me take it up on my board, super video and explanation!! Really helpful and complete, this has even convinced me to buy the CrocEye , well done Jay! Like your style and guitar skill, keep rocking!
Lol bloody brilliant!! I just got a nemesis pedal and I was checking out your video to see how to set up the midi function on the one control crocodile tail loop. It is a awesome bit of kit.
I love your enthusiasm in these videos 👍🏻
This was such a helpful video, thanks! The CroceEye manual is pretty useless and I'm a bit of a MIDI novice, so this video answered all of my questions! Subbed :D
Glad this was able to clear up some isses :)
same here, thank you so much!
Nice job to explain the potential of this pedal.
thanks so much for making this video. really cool.
I've just wired mine up and this has helped clarify some things about midi etc.
Glad you got something out of it! Hope you got it all patched up and ready to roll :)
great demo and explanation. I use a TC helicon Vl3x Extreme also withe pre-progammed effects but still extra boxes are needed sometimes that can be sync'd with all. I guess it could be a input device by itself.
Bro, great explanation. Bought it and love it.
Cheers Jay !! Thanks for the video ...Can you do one on the Caiman Tail Loop by any chance ??
Jay, thank you for this awesome explanation. Subscribed !
Great video! But no one talk about or show if you can select channel on the amp.
So, can you do that? Change channel on the Marshall jvm410hjs amphead, using midi?
Stompboxes in the loops, a midi cable to the amp & four cable method at the same time??
Great video.
Thank you!!!!
I have the OC10 and just ordered the croceye. So yes, definitely gonna use this. I liked your video, it was pretty thorough! At the end you explained sending midi CC a bit but I didn’t catch the control change on the OC10, how do you send this? As a preset? Thanks, Gerben
Jay - Thank you for the video. I'm curious if there was anything you had to do that is NOT on your video in order to get the Nemesis to work correctly via midi. I have one also, but cannot get the OC10 and the Nemesis to talk. I did a factory reset on the Nemesis, but it did not help. I do not know if there is a factory reset for the OC10. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Very good job!! Now, would you help explaining how to control the new boss RC 500 vía MIDI with the crocodile tail Loop OC10 and both with the croc eye? That would be very helpfull. Thanks a lot and keep doing good vids like this.
Possible to explain how to use it in stereo? Timeline and bigsky to be exact
Great vid, what do you have to do if a midi pedal is set for midi channel 5?
Hey! If you got it right the 7 loops are for in front pedals, and the 3 are for modulation pedals? I got 2 in front pedals, 3 modulation + 1 footswitch.. Does this means I can’t wire all my stuff? Also how to connect the boss NS2 (noise gate)?
If I have more than 3 modulation pedals (delay, chorus, flanger, reverb..) it means I can’t add them to this pedalswitcher? There’s only 3 separate channels for fx-loop..
can you order them if you want 3-4 boxed in one preset; but you need the ordering like the One Connect Salamadra has ? If now default to just mix them in the order they are cabled in ? ordering effect the settings of each box's settings.
Does it have the ability to switch the ordering of pedals?
Hi Jay nice tutorial now I'm trying to connect my H9 thru midi the default channel is 0 on the one control but the H9 doesn't have a 0 channel only from 1-16 any suggestion?thanks
Thanks for this very nice overview. I love this device too, but I am stuck with the steering of my stereo pedals such as the Strymon Mobius, Bigsky and Timeline. I'd like to steer all the patches via MIDI but also connect the pedals in stereo, which doesn't seem to be possible. Do you see any solutions?
Hey Jay, hope you're well. Great tutorial and demo as always. I was wondering if you could change the order of your pedals with the controller or do you have to physically move the pedals ? Say you want to have the delay before the chorus for example.
You can do a little creative patching with the independent loops, but you can't quite do that in the unit as far as I know. Thanks for writing :)
Why is programmer at the beginning of the video different from the the one actually demoed?
Hi Jay! Great video, but I still struggle with setting up the Croc Eye properly. I have connected a Source Audio Collider (CH1), Strymon Mobius (CH2), Strymon Timeline (CH3) and a Stone Deaf Tremotron (CH4) in line. Is there any way to have only for example the two Strymon pedals activated and the other two off (passed by)? I thought to set the Croc Eye to „nul“ at the corresponding channel is deactivating that pedal, but that doesn’t work. How can I bypass one ore more pedals via MIDI? Another question: does the Midi TX/RX buttons on the OC10 affect the Croc Eye?
Hi. Did you get an answer for this one?
Hi, Haben sie das Thema erledigt? Haben sie Antworten?
Dankeschön
@@BandaDKW Yes, problem solved. Sold the Unit and bought a Boss ES-8!
Jay - what are you using to power the OC10?
Hi Jay, the MIDI tutorial will work also with the Eventide H9? Can I select different Algorithms with the Croc? How?
Hi Jay, new subscriber here from the Philippines. I just bought recently One Control Camian Tail. Is there any way you can also do a tutorial for it, particularly programming its midi control. Salamat.
Hello and hi. Same here with some other fellow users. I too have the oc-10 and picked up the croceye after watching your demo. However, It does not work like how yours did. I cannot get any preset changes nor does the manual explain enough. I have made sure all cables are working and all channels are correct... .. I am using 4 Eventide devices.... Could you do or have One Control do more videos or something for use players trying to get their products to work as flawless as you make it seem? Cheers!
Could I use this to control a preset change on a JMP-1 with certain pedal loops? Like a GCX?
HI Jay, Great Video!
I am trying to go a step further and use the Croc Tail to trigger midi events in Ableton Live. But I'm having issues because Ableton doesn't understand the midi information coming from the Croc tail. All messages end up as Pitchbender in Ableton not CC#s. Ableton requires CC#s and I read on the One Control Website that the Croc tail only sends PC#s.
Do I need a Croceye to filter out all information except for CC#s? Or is there another way?
I am having the same trouble using the Croc tail with Guitar Rig 5. Its not understanding the midi from the Croc...
Hello Jay, thank you for your demo. I am trying to hook up my crocodile tail loop with my Strymon timeline through midi and i am facing some challenges. As you mentioned the crocodile tail loop is by default on channel 0 , however the strymon Timeline doest have an option of channel 0 to sync the MIDI channel with the croc tail loop. Timeline has channel 1 to 16 . Am i missing something here. Appreciated your help to resolve this . Thank you .
Hi. Put the Timeline on Midi Channel 1, the OC10 stays on 0. Job done
Hey man, this video was great and led me to get both the tail and the eye. So I ran into a little issue and was hoping you could help me out. I'm running 3 midi pedals (2 H9s and a Ventris) on 3 channels (1, 2, 3) and for some reason, the 3rd pedal in the chain, regardless which channel, is not receiving the midi signal from the Croc Eye that I programmed. Checked all my cables and when I switch the order, the 1st and 2nd pedal always work. Any idea what the problem can be?
Hi. Thanks for the video. Maybe you can help me with a few questions. I'm a guitar player and singer in a portuguese band. As i sing and play at the same time it's very uncomfortable to be tapdancing. Some years ago i bought a Mooer L6 switcher. For the price i can't really complaint about it (the main problem is this kind of delay when you press the buttons, the sound kind of fades in). I've been using it to control my modulation pedals live, but i want to be able to control all pedals (dis, drive, boost, etc). This happens because i use my modulation in the fx loop of the amp and the other pedals in the front inside of the BOSS NS2 loop. My question is if using the one control crocodile tail loop four cable method feature i can route the pedals i want to the front and to the fx loop "separating" them but still using in the same loop system. Other thing i would like to know is how the boss NS2 loop would work in a foot switcher, i mean how can i still be using the noise surpressor loop or how can i use it still using a switcher. As i'm thinking of switching to another switcher, i would like to ask some of good choices for me besides the one control crocodile tail loop. What exact foot switchers can i use to route pedals to the fx loop and to the front of the pedal. Thank you.
Does the croceye only change presets on pedals with MIDI? Can I program turning on/off my pedals using the crocye? :)
Does anyone know if you're able to run two amps into the switcher? If so, how are the connections made? Thanks!
I got a pedalboard with 24 pedals, how can I manage to plug them all in this thing?
There are only 10 inputs on the board. However, you can piggyback multiple Crocodiles together. Also, if you have a selection of pedals that you always keep on at the same time, you could group them in the same loop :) Good luck!
Hi jay
How do I connect my Mesa boogie high wire dual buffer ,where would be the order?
Thanks for the video, you helped me decide to buy one of these units, it's definitely the exact thing I was after.
The only thing I'm struggling with is the midi. I have a DigiTech whammy 4 that receives midi commands but the presets are uneditable on the whammy. So program change 1 is detune, 3 is oct up etc.
Would getting the croceye allow me to assign certain midi commands to the desired pgms and banks. Essentially I would like to set different midi program changes to the existing PGMs on the crocodile.
At the moment, the midi commands from the crocodile change the presets on the whammy pedal but there's no way of editing what the whammy presets are if you get what I mean. Apologies if that makes no sense, I'm pretty new to using midi on my pedals haha
Yup, I believe the Croceye would definitely help you with that :)
@@JayLeonardJ thanks! Loving your other videos btw
Hi Jay,really cool review!!! One probably a bit tricky question. I need to switch on my amp channels, modes and to switch on/off the effect loop. That means that I have used all the N.C.'s inputs and I can not add any pedals into FX loop. Any ideas how to solve that? Thanks a lot ;-)
You can always piggy back multiple Crocodile Tail Loops together to open up more room for all those options you are looking at. Good luck!
I use a midi relay switcher like a nux pms-2. Nobels has also an ok switcher. It’s a bridge between amp switch setting and midi.
Hi Jay kumusta! nice video, my question is can you change the pedal order? thanks
Not for this one. Check out their Salamadra Tail Loop.
can i make presets with midi pedals (line 6 m9) and normal pedals (fuzz, eq ect.)? thanks
Random question: what knobs do you use on your blue Tele? Your Tele looks stellar
They are the same knobs you would find on a '61 reissue SG. I used to use Fender Amp knobs, but the Gibson ones had the perfect proportions for the Tele control plate (especially between the switch and knob)
Nice job as always! Does it support dual amp rig (phase reverse & ground lift) in stereo or wet/dry mode?
Quite easy to set up the unit for stereo operation, but you would have to find an external solution for your phase issues.
Check out the Musicomlab Mk V
so you can only put 3 pedals in the effects loop and 7 in front? or 7 in the effects loop and 3 in the front? seems like a design flaw.
wheresallthezombies No, you can put them however you want to. Plug the amp’s preamp into any loop you want and the pedals before it will be in front and the pedals after will be in the Fx loop
Hello mr Jay...I just purchased a nemesis delay but i don't manage to recall my presets with my crocodile tail loop. I already use the midi function of my strymon mobius with the crocodile and it works fine. I put a midi cable in the midi out of the crocodile to connect my mobius (midi in), then i put another midi cable in the midi out of the strymon to connect the nemesis (midi thru) but it does not work!!! Could you help me please!!! Thank you.
Hmm... try experimenting with changing the midi channel on the Nemesis (which is done via the mobile app). It should be on Midi Channel 1 or 0. Good luck!
Hi Jay... I have a OC-10 and a croceye... but was thinking of gettibg a secong oc-10 on sync mode to be abl eto connect more than 10 pedals. Two questions for you:
1) Is it possible to have 2 OC-10s in sync mode + the croceye? I ask cuz sync mode uses the thernet connections, and leaves nothing to the croceye
2) Is it possible to have to configure the OC-10 in a way that some loops are used for switching on and off specific pedals, but when you change the presets it rests the individual pedals? E.g. loops 1-7 are for presets... loops 8 - 10 are for specific pedals (e.g. boost, whammy, etc). The idea is that I could select preset 1 by clicking on 1... but if I click on stomp 8 (for example the boost pedal), it switches on and off the boost, but when I click on 2... it resets the boost so totake it off... but if I click on it, it would add the boost on preset 2.
Not sure its clear... but thanks for your helps
Hi! Thanks for reaching out. Hopefully, I understood your questions okay:
1. If you want to use two OC-10s with a CrocEye, you can connect the crocEye to the Link/Sync input and connect the other OC-10 via the midi inputs. Good luck!
hi great video, but one question i do have. how do amp changing channels looks like if i have an tubmeister 36H&K and no distortion pedal yet? I Mean, can i change for now my channel from clean reverb and delay preset/loop and with another button (amp footswitch connected to One control) to distortion channels jus by one click?
Yup, that is definitely doable. Just make sure your amp channels are plugged into the independent loops and you are good to go.
With OC10 basic midi function are the midi controlled pedal's regular presets separate from midi presets?
I'm just a little confused. I want to control Line 6 M5 presets.
so is this right...?
1) cable out of OC10 into midi in of m5
2) select patch on OC10 and switch on midi tx
3) make sure the m5 midi preset is set to 0
4) find sound on m5 you want with oc10 patch
5) save it ...how? - just like you do with normal m5 preset functions?
also, am I right in thinking that if I want (for example) bank 2 patch 4 to NOT change M5 presets I can just switch off the midi tx
button on that specific patch?
I have a midi cable arriving in the mail soon, so will probably get my head around it, but would appreciate your help.
Thanks for writing! You save your midi presets on the pedal. The preset number on your M5 corresponds to the channel on your OC10. (eg. M5 preset 1 is activated on OC10 Bank1Preset1, M5 preset 2 is activated on OC10 Bank1Preset2, etc).
If you don't want a midi change on a certain channel, you can definitely switch off the MIDI TX :)
Thanks for writing. It is definitely a little confusing on paper, but it should make sense once you start messing with it. Good luck!
The croc eye seems very clunky.. needs an app.
Does it do delay/reverb trails?
No trails unfortunately: this is a fully true bypass box.
How do you change the One Control to midi channel 1?
I dont think you can; Leave it on 0 and put the mid pedal on 1.
Jay
I was hoping you could help me. I know the oc-10 only allows preset or individual loop mode. Some other switches allow you to have presets on some of the buttons and individual loops on others, the point being switching on / off individual pedals without changing the preset. This is very handy when you want to put your boost on without having create a new preset just for adding boost.
My question is:
If I link two of-10s, would I be able to:
- have one of them run on preset mode and the other on individual loop mode
Any help is welcome
Hmm... Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to try that when I had both of those boxes with me... Try contacting www.one-control.com/contact-us.html ... I'm sure they will help you get that sorted out!
Leopoldo Innecco I own one of this and it’s nice but you can have way more versatile switchers for almost the same price . Watch the boss es-8 and the musicomlab efx mkV. You can do what you’re saying and a lot of things like changing loops order and whatever you want to
Can you use more than 10 pedals with this? I'm sorry i am very green
with this. I have a 4 channel amp that I would like to run 3 pedals in
the front of the amp and run about 12 pedals through my effects loop.
Would I be able to switch with all 4 channels of my amp and configure
all of my pedals through this?
Ooh, it depends on how the 4 channel footswitch works with your pedal. I would reach out to One Control to make sure it works with your amp. You could double up some pedals on the same channel if you want to maximize it's size or you can grab a second one for a grand total of 20 individual channels :) Good luck!
Thank you for responding. I will contact them.
TYVM! How bout timeline on midi?
it does that too :)
hey Jay, do you know how many devices that midi capable"piggybacking"?
You will definitely run out of midi pedals before you hit any limit. With the standard tail, as long as they are on the same channel, you are good. If you want to keep your channels separate, with the CrocEye, you can have up to 16 independant midi channels going.
How many controller changes can be made per preset with the CrocEye?
with the CrocEye, you get one controller change per midi channel, so each midi device can get one change.
Can this be used to control the unusual channel switcher on a Mesa Single rectifier?
Veer Chasm it can via the 1/4in cable outputs (Like how he had his amps reverb connected).
On the bigger rectos, if you want to switch via midi, you’ll need an external device (I use an rjm mini amp gizmo). That setup works fantastic though.
Ok so when you say let make a beautiful preset and pick where you want it and you hit the switch and the number changes on the croceye, well I try that and nothing changes on mine
Double check the midi channel your pedal is on. It should be on channel one. However, some pedals will broadcast on channel 0. Try both and see which one will work for your pedal.
JayLeonardJ hey thanx for the reply, I actually have 2 midi controllable pedals hooked up through the croceye and I have those set to channels 1 and 2, also i am using the crocodile hooked up to my amp with a midi cable to change channels on my amp, I will try setting the pedal channels to 2 and 3 cuz I believe the amp is already set to channel 1
so you don't need midi to expand the loop controller? cool ...
can it also change amp channel?
Yup, put it in one of the independent loops on either the N.O or N.C input (depending on your foot switch).
Hello jay
Hi :)
good info vid Thanks : )
