Is the Aston Martin Valkyrie really an F1 car for the road? | Top Gear

- The Aston Martin Valkyrie is pegged as an 'F1 car for the road'. But is it really? With a little help from Aston Martin F1’s Otmar Szafnauer, the Valkyrie Chief Engineer Fraser Dunn and a big, fat Aston Martin F1 car, Top Gear Magazine’s Ollie Marriage investigates.

Dodge: putting a 700hp supercharged v8 in everything
Anyone can make 700hp using boost, there are tuner 1000hp 2L running around. To make 1000hp all motor that's streetable on pump gas is another. That V12 is making 153hp per liter and it's only 6.5L ~396ci.

Who is Racing Point? I don't see them on the list of F1 teams for 2021.
Oh...wait...you meant Aston Martin F1. Well, Aston Martin is on the F1 car and the Valkyrie so....Adrian Newey or not, that's an Aston Martin car now.
Im still upset they stopped the Hypercar program for Le Mans with the Valkyrie. Understandable with the buyout for the F1 team but still.
FIA cancelled it right? Gordon Murray said so at least. FIA has decided to do some LMP race car class instead of the road cars.
@@iaintdonknow it isn't cancelled, Ferrari will join too.
@@VarioFelce With a prototype. The GT aspect has been canned iirc.
@@F1ll1nTh3Blanks yeah you're right, but there will be road spec model of the racing car and the Fia was onboard for the Aston project, they even made Glickehaus change motor just because the Aston wasn't okay with that
@@VarioFelce Honestly I don't know about the road version plan anymore either tbh. Peugeot said they aren't interested in that and they're still building a prototype so who knows. It's possible that even that aspect gets canned and for the better imo.
Surprising how big F1 cars are. It dwarfs the Valkyrie from that camera angle.
5.7 metres long makes it longer than a Maybach S-Class. An entire Fiat 500 will fit between the front and rear axle centrelines.
I just got a tape measure and mapped it out; it wouldn't fit into any room in my flat. I can't quite get my head around just how massive that car is.

@@iaintdonknow no Aston abandoned it when Stroll brought the team.

It's quite concerning how "early" the Valkyrie still looks considering it was first revealed 5 years ago, and deliveries were expected 2 years ago...
There was a concept car shown 5 years ago. The first 'true' design was shown at the end of 2017 with a 2020 delivery date target. With Covid that got delayed 1 year.
For comparison, the 918 spyder was first shown in the beginning of 2010 and released to customers in the beginning of 2014. I don't exactly remember who said it but I remember someone from Porsche said the entire proces took 7 years from idea to delivery. So Valkyrie's development, even with the Covid delay, isn't that odd.
@@Cain353 even before COVID the Valkyrie project was plagued by delays and setbacks.

As I see the Valkyrie progress towards its production form it looks better and better, this rendition looks fantastic
Here's a conundrum. The Valkyrie is an Adrian Newey designed hypercar for Aston Martin borne from the time Red Bull Racing collaborated with them. Adrian's main job is of course as CTO of RBR. But now Aston Martin is owned by Lawrence Stroll who also owns Racing Point and rebranded it Aston Martin F1 though his cars are essentially B-spec Mercedes-Benz F1 cars who of course will soon be launching the AMG One hypercar.
Oh and getting Otmar Szafnauer to help explain the tenuous link between the Valkyrie and an F1 car that shares no design links to it at all is like getting Zlatan Ibrhimovic to explain the off-court work done by LeBron James. It would have been so much better if they could get Adrian to talk about the car he designed and developed.
