      Yep, _or_ a 3.3 litre naturally aspirated 6 cylinder engine making 373 kW. Not bad at all!
      Of course, a hybrid system with hybrid forced induction (using stored/reclaimed energy for electric-powered intelligent boosting combined with conventional turbo/super-changing) and infinitely variable valve actuation, would provide a vastly superior setup. The days of the normally aspirated engine are almost over, as too are the days of non-hybrid performance vehicles.

      Görsel they accept that a certain amount of vibration in the cabin will be inevitable, and in fact will make the car feel more “hardcore” and “focussed” to the customer, as this is a common tactic used in race cars. Longevity of the design isnt necessarily the no. 1 concern in this case, as in a race car it is constantly being re-built/components replaced, and in the case of this hyper-car that will be driven barely a couple of thousand miles a year (and maintained to the highest standard), the chance of mechanical failure is relatively low.
      If this was your everyday Ford Focus or the like, the higher average mileage, harsher conditions (speedbumps, potholes etc) and more lax maintenance would result in higher chance of major mechanical failures due to high stresses/material fatigue.
      The other point to consider is the fact that (as mentioned in the video) the engine uses timing gears instead of a belt or chain system. This is because a belt or chain wouldn’t be able to rotate at such high speeds (11000 RPM crank, and 5500 RPM for the cam sprockets) unless they were very bulky and over engineered, adding unnecessary weight. The gears also add a lot of vibration and noise, which is a key reason we don’t see them in everyday engines.
      I think at some point in the video (correct me if i’m wrong), the engineer in the lovely flowery shirt said that the geartrain was at the back of the engine (i.e. furthest away from the cabin) so that the vibration would be harder to feel, and also slightly absorbed/damped by the crankshaft/flywheel’s motion. I think thats everything? Hope it answers your question 👍

    • @hamstirrer6882
      @hamstirrer6882 5 лет назад

      Görsel me too, but its probably not too much for the million/billionaires who will most likely own this car...its a tactic used in motorsport to save weight, at the expense of everything else. If it would have any benefits in an everyday road car, it would trickle down, as a lot of new tech in consumer cars comes from motorsport (dual clutch transmissions, brake technology, engine design, theres loads of examples). Ultimately Aston Martin must have decided that the people who this car is aimed at will like the feeling of having a bare bones hardcore racecar for the road. Just my two pennies

    Seeing and hearing that intro sound... From instant shivers to misty eyes. Here I was thinking a singing beast like that engine would never ever be produced again, the sound forever lost. Formula 1 springs to mind, Mclaren F1-level of engineering of the engine and well beyond, a Murcielago V12 revving beyond its limits simply howling like nothing before on the streets! Never did I expect Aston Marting to be the company to produce something like this... We all thought this was all over, forever lost in the history of the car and engine. A V12 furiously howling, again, is simply AMAZING! Thank you Cosworth for bringing such joy to petrolheads hearts (and ears)! We don't want this engine. We want its sound. About to get a little nerdy here, and I hope I'm not coming across rude.
      Assuming it all weighed the minimum, the entire powertrain of a modern F1 car, including the hybrid system, weighs at least 35kg less than this engine does MINUS its hybrid system. It also makes about the same power. That's a lot of weight when you're talking about something as light as an F1 car. Even the weight of the fuel makes a noticeable impact. You'd need to do SOMETHING to the engine to get enough power out of it to counter the weight, and it would end up even heavier because of it. I think the only F1 engines from the past that could come close to doing enough are the qualifying engines used in the 1980s. The old turbo 6s running stupid amounts of boost that couldn't be used for more than a few laps because they'd blow themselves up. And all of this is ignoring the sheer size of the engine. Modern F1 cars are built to hold a 1.6L engine, so you'd need to rework the body, further increasing the weight.
      So yeah. We really wouldn't want something this big and heavy in an F1 car. But it'd sure make a nice noise.

      Now that's more like it for an engine of that size and 4 turbos. 1000 HP seemed insane for the Veyron, but you know it's overkill when it can now be done naturally aspirated by a noticeably smaller engine with less cylinders. you're underestimating how much cheaper would become to live with an Ev. Mantainance very rare and no fuels needed (electricity also has its cost but it will be so mich better than fuels, every kind of fuels). Let's the money do the talk, I'm curious too...

      I was just thinking this same thing. Electric motors are the future. I'm excited for change, though. New e cars will be exciting as well... It'll become a hydrodynamics and software problem to solve instead of mechanical, mostly. But we have a long time before ICE goes away.

    That engine in an Adrian Newey car is going to be an absolute beast. Can't wait.

    I have never been an Aston Martin fan but this thing can change minds like it changes speed! Good thing I can't afford it cause I would probably die lol.

      I’ve loved Aston’s ever since I saw a DB5 in James Bond. My favourite is the 1999 vantage volante 600
