This piece is actually a washstand. Before sinks and running water, there was a wash bowl and pitcher of clean water on it and towels hung over the side rails!
@@DesertDIY I have never seen a folding button hook before. My grandmother had one that was hers when she was a teen in 1890. It had a very pretty ivory handle, very fancy. I bet the folding ones were mostly used by men
Restor A Finnish is magic, I use to redo furniture and I was always amazed how new it would look after, I almost felt like I was cheating it was so easy and the results always looked majical🥰💯🥰
I LOVE that makeover! Another beautiful job! The blue is perfect, & that stain worked wonders! And you had me cracking up over your opening presents at Christmas comment. Especially because I always played jokes on my kids when it came to presents. The most memorable was when my youngest wanted a little aquarium-which we bought-but removed from the box. We put the bag of aquarium rocks in the box, so when she opened it up, someone shouted, “Oh look, it’s a box of rocks!” (There *may* have been tears.) Over 20 years & that *still* is a often-told story. They got back at me, though. One year for Mother’s Day they presented me with potting soil. Which I loved. (Hey, it’s what we moms do, amirite?) Then, they brought out the tomato plants...they got me!😂😂
The table honestly looks like an old bedroom dry sink. It just needs the big bowl, water pitcher, a hand towel hanging off one of the side roads, and placed against a wall with a mirror hung on it.
I think the hook thing looks like a Victorian show button hook but I have never seen like this one. Beautiful job on the wash stand. I have one with square nails so it’s old. I took off the top and back and had a stone top put on it and back splash the same as the original pattern. The wood is mahogany or cherry so the marble is cream with faint darker lines and tiny spots of rust red. We turned it into a bathroom sink. I love it
The tool is a button hook. It was used to get the button holes over the buttons that held the top of the shoes together. The shoes were high-topped. It's a pretty old tool! Great find.
Wow that came out so nice. Such a unique piece. I love furniture with character. Cool little tool also. It’s fun to find things like that. I walk around our neighborhood and it’s like a treasure hunt. Never know what you are going to find. Yesterday was trash day and I found an end or could be used for a coffee table hand made and very heavy at one house. It took every ounce of energy I had to carry it back home but I was determined - lol. Then I found a chair and a bunch of other odds and ends - clothes, jacket, lampshade etc. and a neighbor was coming by as I was figuring out how I was going to get that back home and she gave me a ride. My poor hubby never knows what I’m going to bring back to the house lol. It’s fun and a lot of the stuff I clean up and we donate. Will have to see if I can find the restore stuff. That is really awesome. Thank you again for sharing this. What fun!! I thought I had subscribed the other day and I guess i forgot. So doing it now. I enjoy your videos. God bless!!
@@DesertDIY Yes. Trying to have fun no matter what and enjoy life. I used to push my mom around with me in the wheelchair and I could pack some stuff on there lol. I miss her she passed away in June at the age of 92. So I keep walking and “treasure” hunting. It’s kinda like therapy only better!! Have an awesome day!! It’s finally a little “cooler” here in FL. To be only about 80 here today!!
I think this was a small wash stand. The bars would be for towels. The basin and pitcher would sit on the top and combs and brushes would be stored in the drawer. We had a wash stand that was a but larger piece and it had a bar across the back of stand. That restore product is amazing! Beautiful job on this piece!!!
Great choice of color. I Think I would have also had the top wood color, awesome peice to work on, I have a hard time finding interesting pieces like that on. !!!! Beautiful job.
I inherited a sink stand almost exactly like yours, though mine has a bottom shelf. I enjoy mine in natural wood, but also like your painted version. As I am a desert dweller too, I use penetrating tongue oil to 'lube' the sink stand. I keep sweet momentos of my father in it.
I was so thrilled when I got the notification for this video. When I seen you post the viewers choice pic for this I fell in love with how unique the piece is. How amazing to learn it has a back story! The finish really did make the legs pop! Such an amazing transformation!
Actually, it's a skate lacer, to help you lace up ice skates, old-style ski boots, etc. It's never been used for button shoes. How do I know this you ask? I worked in the shoe repair/selling industry for many years, and I was also a figure skater for over 13 years. Had one of these beauties in my skate bag, sure helps you lace up your skates so much easier!
Beautiful piece. That blue really is stunning 😍 I love how you use affordable products and achieve great results. Tfs & take care 🌺 P.S Love the tip about one stain shade darker 😉

Question: i have and old mirrored piece of furniture that i found in my mother's basement . some of the mirrored pieces came off except the three pieces with an etched in flower design on it. The desk opens up into a vanity. How do i refurbish this piece. It has the dried up glue that was used to place the mirrors on
You would need to have those mirror pieces cut and replace them using glue. the mirror cutting is not something I would DIY but it shouldn't be too expensive I don't think.
This piece is actually a washstand. Before sinks and running water, there was a wash bowl and pitcher of clean water on it and towels hung over the side rails!
It’s a button hook for shoes. A folding button hook.

It’s beautiful. And the blue looks great. What a great table.
This little table looks like a wash basin and pitcher holder from years gone by. The side “bars” are to hold towels. You did a super job!! Very cute!!

Wow that is so cute!!!! I don’t usually pick blue but that looks gorgeous ❤
A gorgeous piece painted in a beautiful color with a great history. Can't beat that! Nice work, Corey!
Thank you!!!
I have an old desk at home I am dying to paint navy. Your project convinces me it would be so beautiful. I love watching your transformations! 😍
Thank you Beth. Navy is so timeless
I’m positive it is a hook used to button up woman’s shoes in the old days👍🏼
Agreed!
