      Great video! I have a few questions. First I need to thank you... I was literally going to call a few antique shop in my area because where I live and with the current world situation people are really not buying a huge amount of furniture. So, if your Furniture does not take off or sell on Marketplace what would you advise to be the next step I have seen people successfully selling furniture on Etsy. Would you recommend this? Also if someone wants a specific color or you want to use a specific latex color would you recommend or do you know anything about BB Froshe(SP?)

    Oh my gosh! No contest, this is hands down the BEST slap it on, down and dirty, take it or leave it, furniture flipping info I've EVER seen on RUclips. These are the answers to the questions beginners always ask, but no one will ever answer! (It like Corey's the Furniture Flipping Mafia whistle-blower! Leaking all the dirty Mafia flipping secrets to the world! 😆) TYFS all of your extremely wealthy knowledge of all that is furniture flipping with everyone! I wish I had known all these things when I first flipped. You have a beautiful talent! TYFS! 💘💘💘

    I have been flipping for 3 years and I agree with everything you said. I wish I had known a few of these when I started, it would have saved so much time and money. For paint, I always check mistints at the hardware store and I go to the Habitat for Humanity resale store for furniture, paint, and hardware. Never know what you might find! Excellent, down to earth video. I like that you get right to it and don't sugar coat anything.

    The “oops paint” section of my local hardware store and many big box stores in surrounding counties is always the first place I go when paint shopping. So often they drastically mark down the paint that they make incorrect color. I sometimes add a little paint to mason jars...which allows me to add the color white and “tone down” or mix paint colors in small amounts for little projects.
    Your tips are amazing! I’m learning a lot from you sharing your wisdom! 💚😊👏🏽

    Thank you I sure needed to hear your encouragement. Your tips are in line with what I was thinking myself. I also have been grabbing up FREE furniture whenever I am able, which leads me to the biggest part of your video...Just get out there and do it! I had a blow out with my husband over the piling up of free furniture and how I have no plan and I have no idea what I am doing...I actually spent a couple weeks browsing (saving items to see what/how fast it sold) market place to see what was selling BEFORE I started any kind of picking. You telling me to just do it...has fired me up to press forward and let him be shown that yes I can do it and yes it is that simple and yes you do not ALWAYS need a plan to get a project off the ground. Thank you so much

I go out in my neighborhood the night before garbage day (Texas) and most people will place wood furniture out on the curb. Thank u for this .. I practiced painting with cheap chalk paint on some decorative shelves in my house. I found out delver all sources for free stuff .. this week alone I've collected two bedside tables, one small cabinet, one huge three piece cabinet, a table and two end tables. Got some drawers from a dresser that someone had at the curb .. going to make shelves boxes and cat and dog beds out of those. I'm doing and finishing up the two end tables .. I was really nervous at first but after I painted them I looked at the before and after pictures so far and was really excited about how it looks now ... so because of you and a few other channels .. I'm going for it!! ❤️ .. thanks so much for all this! Not excited about getting back on Facebook .. been off it for a few years but going to try the marketplace on it.

It's now dark brown and material is a dark navy from outdoor fabric spray paint. You, nailed it (Semi-pun intended)! Best flippin' advice I've seen on RUclips. I definitely want to do more flipping and anything I've sold has been from curb surfing and super cheap finds. I refuse to pay the high prices of boutique paints. I almost exclusively use BEHR paint and it produces a very high-quality finish. I've made DIY chalky paint with it and I've used it with no additive and it works great, either way. I prep very well and none of my projects have failed.

    Just started researching flipping furniture as I am now a Stay at Home Mom and I appreciate your kind attitude and frugality. I’m definitely subscribing.
    I just bought my first piece to flip and I just have one question. I am in a very cheap area in NC and I’m just wondering what all of you furniture flippers do if your piece ISN’T selling? Like if you keep lowering the price… Do you end up just donating it or what do you do? Or just break even? Or even lose money on it?
    Thank you!

    • @DesertDIY
      @DesertDIY  3 года назад

      Hi Hailey! First I want to say congrats on starting furniture flipping and thank you for watching. There is always a chance that a piece won't sell. You have a few choices. You can wait. Erase the ad and repost it again in a week or so. You can redo the piece a different way if the style you did on the piece is not catching any buyers. You could lower the price. The choices depend on if you have time to wait or if you need the piece gone asap. I don't usually sell my pieces anymore, almost all my work goes to donation to local people in need. But when I did sell I needed pieces to move fast so I focused on doing pieces in styles and colors that I knew would sell and priced low to get the piece moving out quickly. Furniture does not sell for high prices where I live and you mentioned your area is cheap as well. I'd try and get pieces for free and redo them for as little as possible. You can buy paints from the "oops" discounted section at your local hardware store and tint them with cheap craft paints. Hand paint instead of spraying. Reuse your brushes. Stick with neutral colors.

      @@donniarntson4664 perfect. Perhaps you will have to do more projects with painting with a paint brush since you will be limited on power tools in your housing. Gel stains can be used when you want to keep a wood grain but can't sand and restain. Great info. My question is about older wooden dressers/chest of drawers. I have a friend that asked me what to do with how the drawer slides. She said it's like wood on wood. I told her there were plastic corner pieces I've used and also used bar soap if very mild. Do you have a suggestion for this?
    Another question I have for you is: do you avoid furniture that needs small repairs? In the past, I've done wood center glides for myself and they can be a bit challenging. So am wondering if you tackle things like that.

    • @DesertDIY
      @DesertDIY  3 года назад

      Drawers can be complicated. If its wood on wood its more simple to fix. It might just need some sanding and rubbing wax on the edges to glide more easily. If the drawer is not square you can do some repairs to make thr drawer shape back to square. I am sure there are tutorials on youtube to see exactly how to do that. Since dressers and their drawers are built so differently its hard to have a single answer. Thank you for watching, Linda. I hope I could help a little bit.

    • @DesertDIY
      @DesertDIY  4 года назад +1

      I do not ship. I sell locally. My pieces always sell within a week or two so I have never had to venture out into the shipping world lol. But if you were to ship you would have to take the piece to get weighed and get prices on shipping and then require the buyer to pay that cost. That is how many people do it that I know of.

Unfortunately I put the left overs (after painting a side table) in a small glass container so I don't know what brand or specific type it was. Ug! Hey I am thinking of starting this to make extra cash for my travel plans. Only problem is a rent an apartment. I do have a small balcony. Not a lot of place to work on pieces and store until selling. Does this require a lot of space? Can it get messy? I cant ruin my landlords nice floors

    • @DesertDIY
      @DesertDIY  3 года назад

      I would recommend finding pieces that only require light hand sanding just to scuff up the surface for paint. Put down drop cloths and use a paint that can be cleaned up with water like "diy" brand paints. Im sure there are other brands that can clean up with water also. That way if you accidently make a mess you can clean it up with soap and water. Use wax to seal your pieces since it is easy to do in a small space. Don't start a new piece until the first one is sold so that you don't have to store things. Its totally doable.
