I used to do this in open chord but kinda hard to maintain upper strings sustain, espescially when i play barre chords.

lol. I hear you But the trick is to see the chord shape in the scale box then all those you see are available to you. This is why I put up the scale boxes with the chord shapes coloured to make it visible. You can do it if I can :)
