So the car has exactly the amount of battery strength that the car says it should have when it arrives at the charging station. The biggest problem with small and fast incremental updates for cars is the valuation of the car in the used market. In the traditional lineups, you know the model of the car and feature set, so you can come to a valuation. But if the updates are too frequent, reaching a valuation becomes really difficult.

  • @stevenkeller3047

I like the new EV front ends. I like the fact that they're getting away from the old school 'grill'. EVs don't need the same engine airflow as an ICE. I think they need to push the styling toward a new look. It will be a step-by-step process but I think we'll start seeing some more interesting front ends. Also, boys, the Polestar 3 (larger SUV) has been introduced. Look-up the launch video. I believe production begins in March and deliveries starting Q3, 2023. The smaller SUV, Polestar 4 is to be introduced in 2024...I think. I'm waiting for the 5 (the Precept). That's an AWESOME car.

I own a dual motor 2022 Polestar 2, range is decent in the summer, 250ish, winter 160 or so. For us, range is fine, we seldom go on longer trips. Charging speed is 155kw, which is also fine, in our area (MN) chargers faster than that are very rare. 95% of our charging is done at home, so speeds are irrelevant. BTW, 0-60 times on the dual motor versions is 4.6 seconds, with the performance upgrade (now available in the US) you're looking at 4.2. Sporty, fun car to drive, we love ours!

But the problem with Tesla's thing about upgrades is because they sometimes don't say when you're getting upgrades and changes because it could be in the middle of them making cars then decide to change and add something. The nice thing about making them a yearly refresh is because it lets buyers know if they are getting something different per year than if they did one huge change in the middle of the year and you just bought a car and missed out on it.

  • @chrisak49

I thought the generational changes by ICE OEMs was about 7-10 years. Like they’ll release a Honda Civic that’s completely updated vs small changes. The problem with this, is that by the time they update, it’s already outdated in terms of tech and design (small screens running Android).
I think the Tesla approach is great for consumers getting the best product, but it also means the moment you buy a Tesla it can be outdated (like I got the Intel chip when they were already delivering cars with the Ryzen chip).
I wouldn’t bother upgrading until something like Project Highland comes out AND has all the cool updates (single cast body, 4680 cells, HW4+)
