I own a Model 3 RWD and Polestar 2 Performance. The Polestar 2 is a MUCH better car. Not quite as efficient, but a far better overall driving experience. My wife doesn't care about driving experience, just getting from A to B, so, I drive the Polestar and she drives the Tesla. Everybody's happy. 😃
How do you find the ride for the performance? Seen quite a bit saying it's not worth the upgrade. Personally looking at the Pilot + Plus packs for myself.
Tommy!!! The BEST review or comparison of a Polestar 2 and model 3 that exists on the net. I've owned both a Polestar 2 and a model Y and driven model 3. Also have owned 4 additional EVs. My Polestar was by far the best driving car I've owned and you are one of the few reviewers that have stated that. Also, to me ergonomics are a big big factor and the Polestar has way better ergonomics. Tesla has literally the world's worst. The Polestar is lacking HVAC buttons, if it had those it would be almost perfect. Just adjusting the air vents on the Tesla is a major PITA. The wiper stalk and headlight stalk are both ergonomically perfect. And as you said, mirror buttons etc and if you want to flip your side mirror down to see a curb or something like that you just double tap which ever side mirror you want to angle down, no hunting through cumbersome menus on a screen. Everything is right where it should be with the exception of some of the HVAC controls. And at least it has physical defrost buttons which are really the HVAC fearures you may need in a hurry and easy access to. I recently traded my Polestar in for an ID4 as right now an e-CUV is more suited to what I need but man or man I miss driving my Polestar.
Hey teslastan, it has cooled seats with the REAL LEATHER interior, unlike m3/my with their PLASTIC seats(so luxurious). Oh ya the refreshed m3 finally gets cooling 6 or 7 years after it should have been included considering you are sitting on essentially garbage bags the seat cooling would be nice. And no, the Polestar does have 4 cup holders, two upfront but will not argue it's poor design there. Still massively better car than the tesla. Oh and btw, I don't have my Polestar anymore, as I've moved onto my 6th EV now, but my Polestar has still been my favorite EV I've owned. I would indeed buy another one. Speaking from EXPERIENCE.
k. everyone getting bent up over the Geely connection... if the US government told the big three go pound sand like they should've in 08, and told the chinese they can sell EVs in north america if they build em here, we would have more EVs at more affordable price points than we do now. and get rid of the emissions carve-outs for big trucks while we're at it, and watch how fast the compact car segment revives.
I have a 2022 Polestar 2 AWD version, didn't opt for the performance version. Did get the upgraded interior option for that generation. I much prefer the Polestar interior to the tesla, we had a Model X before (2019 Raven Refresh). The cooled seats are an important feature for the warmer climates and work great, and the seats are much more comfortable. I used Google Auto for a while, but when carplay came I haven't touched it since. I find that we get the range numbers the car says it has where I found on our Model X that while it said 247 max range I could never get above 180-200 and 200 was white knuckle 2% or less. One thing the Polestar does that I'm not a fan of is when the battery gets below 17-15% it restricts power so bad you can't stay at highway speed, and you become an instant danger, so we never have let it get below 17% as it's pretty scary when you're on the highway and can't go over 20. I don't know if this was fixed, because experiencing it once is more than enough to never try it again.
Note for Roman - CarPlay works amazing with the Polestar 2, even though the OS is Google. It’s actually one of the few cars to support dual screen CarPlay - guidance is shown on the driver cluster as well, just like the Google Maps system. It’s pretty awesome. If you need wireless, there are adapters. In my experience wired is rock solid reliable compared.
Drove the Polestar at the LA auto show....I loved it! Coming from a GTI, it felt less compromised and more comparable than the Tesla. Tesla comes with a learning curb....Polestar feels like home
I dont get why almost everyone chooses the dual motor top spec all the options polestar 2 and compares prices with a model 3 without all the options. You had a $4k seat option that you didnt need to do!!! First off how about talk about the new RWD configuration that most people would prefer due to longer range, faster charging and cheaper. I just leased a rwd with pilot and plus packs so i can take advantage of the federal rebate and took advantage of a couple other deals and the purchase price was around $47k....a little misleading saying its not worth the $69k price. Ill take my still respectable 5.9 second 0 to 60 I never actually do, my longer range, faster charging and my savings over the top spec dual motor any day of the week. All Im saying is its hard to get real information when all the tesla fans choose the best case scenario for the tesla and ignore a bunch of things that actually matter to people when they are researching what car they want. How many people actually buy the top spec cars! Talk about the entry level ones and how they compare.
Definitely but the motors have been having issues so definitely will take the one that has a more reliable drive train. The polestar 4 looks to be amazing tho.
Everyone complaining that they didn’t compare the M3 Highland. Do you know why? Because it’s not for sale in the US yet!!!! I would have preferred a comparison between the base M3 and the base P2 in standard RWD form. Both cars have their pros and cons. The EV tech continues to mature. Remember when Musk launched the M3 and claimed the cars could soon be driverless robo-taxis? Welp, here we are at all new HW/SW. Those 2017 M3s are obsolete. It’s best to lease an EV for now, and get what meets your personal use case.
We love our Polestar 2 but they are way too expensive new and EV depreciation is crazy. You can find a used fully loaded Polestar 2 for $30k with 10,000 miles when it was $70k the year before.
I never understood the whole argument about how "It's so bad having the speedometer on the center screen. You have to look so far away from the road to see how fast you're going." I never owned a car with an ACTUAL heads-up display (Not the instrument cluster a lot of places now for some stupidly innacurate reason call a HUD), but that would probably be the best option, since the speed would be projected onto the windshield in front of you. But even with a typical instrument cluster, you're still focusing on something much closer to you than the road in front of you every time you glance at it. Could argue that by looking at the top left corner of the center Tesla screen, the road ahead may no longer be in focus, but because there is so little cluttering up the dashboard, and the height of the dashboard is as low as it is, you're still seeing enough of the road in your periphery to more easily notice sudden movement.
It’s controversial yet unnecessary to bicker about. Your points are valid, no matter where your speedometer is, it’s a distraction in some shape or form when you look at it. Unless your speeding its hard not to glance at it and still be attentive to whats happening in front and anywhere else around you.
@@normt430 since I picked up my Model Y in May I have yet to ever have to reboot my display (done it a few times to force it to check for any available software updates, but haven't done it yet because I HAD to do it). And you said "until the screen goes blank", too. Are you implying that there's no way a digital instrument cluster can bork itself? Only a Tesla screen can have a fault? 🤣
The biggest negative about the Polestar is the narrow cockpit. There's no knee room side to side. The infotainment system is nice, it helps you find the chargers that don't work.
For ground up EVs you'd think the industry could do better than that. I'd never own an EV for the same reason outlined in the video. Dad is 6'2, I'm 6'4. The raised floor to accommodate the battery pack make seating comfort too much of a comprise for us tall people.
Being from Colorado I didn’t think you’re skip discussing the heat system designs. Does the Polestar use a heat pump for all system as the Tesla does? Very important for everyday use in cold weather, correct?
Cool weather; heat pumps drastically drop in efficiency as the weather gets colder, since the design needs more power to make the coils colder than the outside temp to work. That’s why you don’t see heat pumps used much in freezing areas, since traditional heating methods work better.
@@Cloud30000heat pumps are still more efficient in cold. The exchange coil can ice over though, which requires a resistive element to de ice. Because of that, a lot of heat pump systems switch to resistive at a certain temp. Regardless until that switch the heat pump is always more efficient. Air source cooling does get less efficient as the outside air gets warmer but even in 100+ temps the system requires less energy than resistive electric heat which is pretty close to 100%. Technology Connections had a great video on this a couple years ago.
Nice comparison and quite fair, thank you, gentlemen! Refreshed Model 3 is much closer to Polestar in interior quality, and has a rear entertainment screen that gives you movies as well as access to seat heater controls. I wonder when we get it in USA?
The Long range AWD Polestar 3 is $64,400. The Dual Motor Performance Model 3 is $51,000. Polestar and Volvo make and are making very compelling EVs, but they should be able to do that with such a price gap. And Tesla is profitable with their Model 3, unlike Polestar.
@@BradMistry The dual motor uses the older 78kWh battery, the single motor uses the newer 82kWh battery. The 78kWh can charge up to 205kW, the 82kWh can charge up to 155kW. They're currently marketing the dual motor as a "free upgrade", selling them at the same price point. It doesn't necessarily make sense to buy the more power-hungry version with the slightly weaker battery, giving it an estimated 54 mile shorter range. But it is an option if you care more about getting that acceleration at the same price. My uneducated guess is that they're trying to get rid of the older batteries by doing this price reduction -- basically the old model battery makes the new model car on clearance. So I'd guess they'll get through them this year and put the new battery in the 2025 car. I can't be certain, so you'd have to check when the 2025 specs are announced.
(Also, since Europe was brought up, the standard version in Europe is 69kWh, with a charging speed of 135kW. The standard version is not available in the US -- it's long-range one motor or long-range dual motor. The Canadian models look to be the same as the US models as far as batteries go.)
@@asongfromunderthefloorboards in Europe (Germany) I see the technical details on the webpage of Polestar saying that the SRS (standard range single motor) has 69 kWh battery, the LRS (long range single) has 82 kWh battery - same as LRD and LRDP. 69kWh battery can charge up to 135 kW and the 82 kWh battery can charge up to 205 kW. Thats funny that you have different technical specs.
We just got a Model 3 Performance, the price was too nice to turn down. The non-Tesla EV market won't really be compelling for us until they can charge directly on NACS, interesting days ahead.
The Tesla one second faster 0-60 really doesn’t seem like enough of a reason to get one over the polestar, which seems better in every other way possible. Also, these reviews always talk about the federal and state credit which isn’t even going to be available at all times and is different per state
But the pricing makes a difference. The Long range AWD Polestar 3 is $64,400. The Dual Motor Performance Model 3 is $51,000. @@normt430 True, but I do think the upcoming EX90 and EX30 will be great EVs, they certainly are beautiful, and they will be able to command a premium, which is what Volvo will have to do to make a profit. I think Polestar's upcoming EVs are great too, and they're in the luxury/performance market and they will certainly command a premium. But Tesla is premium enough for me, especially for the price, and Tesla's tech is unmatched. Not to mention, full access to the Tesla Supercharging network. That's certainly a premium charging experience.
Rented a Polestar 2 for a week for driving through the Australian countryside. I am super impressed at how well it handles and the acceleration is instant! Cockpit is also awesome with huge navigation screen. Most importantly, there is no raised rear floor unlike older Tesla models, providing proper comfort for passengers. Only issue is I couldn't figure how to open the door and it takes approx. 1% battery to open the trunk 😅
Best thing to do is buy a Polestar 2 (a 2022 or 2023) used... you can get a fully loaded one with less than 10k miles on it for very low 30's. I purchased a 2022 when the model 3 didn't have any rebate and the polestar did in 2022... So I got the Fully loaded (I even have the tow package) PS2 for like 61k. and the Model 3 was like 5k more expensive and didn't include the full self-driving. When Tesla pulled the pricing back down it makes it a very hard argument for the polestar 2 from new... But I have my PS2 in getting a service today, and Hertz gave me a Model 3 (base model) and I HATE IT. Feels like a cheap Corolla vs a much more premium vehicle. I also do not like the new grill on the PS2... the 2021-23 looks much better.
The new Highlander model has a screen in the back row to help with the seat heating for rear seat passengers. Also getting ventilated seats in the front. There are alot of cars better than the Tesla out there, what they can't do is compete with Tesla’s on price.
The 2024 Highland Tesla 3 will be sold in US 1st quarter of 2024 and improves ride, quietness and technology 5 years ahead of all others except Polestar trailing close by. I ordered a Polestar 2 back in 2020 and tried it before signing and could not fit in the front. I bought a Tesla Y with plenty of space. I am anxious to see the Polestar 4 which should be available 2025. I will have to make a selection between Tesla Y Juniper refresh and Polestar 4. 😮
Thank you for that review, as I've been wanting to know if the Polestar retained the Volvo quality/fit and finish. From your guys' impression, it seems like it is very much in line with what you'd expect from a Volvo (Polestar). The one drawback of the Polestar seems to be that huge console. Does it take up space by the driver and passenger knee area? I would really consider buying the Polestar over the Tesla. I like the looks better as well. Yes the acceleration would be nice in the Tesla, but I think I would find the Polestar to be more than enough.
No matter how good other EVs get, Tesla still has one unassailable advantage: the supercharger network. In the UK they actually have 2: Tesla chargers are also cheaper than any other network.
@@normt430 same here, but sooner or later you have to do a road trip. I do a 200 mile trip every month or 2 to visit my mother. She lives in a flat (apartment) so I can’t charge when I get there. Tesla is gradually opening their network to non-Teslas, so far though these charging stations are in out of the way areas. Meanwhile the non-Tesla chargers in motorway services cost more per mile than diesel. I’m not saying this as Tesla fan, I can’t afford one.
Parked next to a Polestar yesterday at Target and was shocked at how small it looks (inside and out.) I have a MYP though so not sure how the M3 compares. Looking at the price the M3 and maybe even the MY seem to be better values.
Grocery flip isn't a standard in base models. I forget which pack is needed. There are three "packs" with Polestar. Plus, Pilot, Performance and then you choose either Single Motor or Dual AWD. Dual AWD makes it 400+hp even without the performance package.
Too bad US still don't have Model 3 highland. It is so much better! Polestar 2 have nothing on the new Model 3, only that hatchback can be an advantage. Surprised you found the Polestar 2 premium, when I tried this new one last month we was very disappointed in it. Loved the sound system and that it is now RWD instead of FWD, but there is very hard plastic everywhere. Take a look at the sun visors they are worse than my 15 year old Hyundai. Looking forward to seeing these two head to head again once you guys also have a new Model 3 across the pond.
We've owned a 2022 Polestar 2 for almost two years, equipped much like the one you tested, minus the performance pack. It's been a great car so far for us. When we bought ours it did qualify for the full $7500 tax credit, sadly with the "inflation reduction act" that went away. We've put on about 16k trouble free miles. I was nervous going to an EV in MN, especially since my wife is NOT a tech person, but she's loved the Polestar 2 and said just the other day how much she likes to drive it. We do have ice vehicles to drive if we need to, but for 98% of our driving the EV works great.
The fit and finish on the polestar is better than the model Y we had. Also I just read that due to all the Chinese origin parts the Tesla model 3 are losing federal tax credit after 1/1. So that’s 7500 more to Tesla price, still less costly. I like the look of the new model 3 and Tesla is starting to really mature and it has the supercharger network, but for me living in a cold state I won’t rely on a car that does everything from a giant lcd like the Tesla. The new one requires you to slide car into drive on screen and has no directional stalks either. For many that won’t be a big deal but for me as someone who’s been driving for 30 years it’s more of an adjustment. I also missed a hud or gauge cluster
I absolutely despise the minimalist interior on a Tesla. The new ones don't even have a physical turn signal or gear selector. Having to lift your arm up and look at a screen to switch gears is just complete BS. The polestars interior at least has a proper gear selector, and physical buttons for common use things. Not sure if that justifies the price difference though.
LOL, I just got through writing several vary long passage expressing my disdain regarding the exact same thing. Even worse, reviewer that say it as if its something to appreciate or to covet. In fact, all I see is cost cutting. All those popular things that Tesla does is the exact reason I will never own one: Sunroof that does not open All the basic controls accessed through the infotainment No instrument display Weird shaped steering wheels Economy car interior design
Love my Polestar. And the Google maps for navigation is great. Such a nice drive Only thing I really don't like is the cup holders We had someone make us cup holders that clip on the centre console
The navigation that can be displayed directly in front behind the steering wheel is actually quite cool and useful. I wish they had mentioned that part.
At 6’3”, the Model 3 was just too small. Loved everything else about it, so maybe a Model Y would fit me. I’ll be test driving a Polestar 2 in Denver soon! Wondering if it will be as tight
look at how narrow the cockpit is in this video. Tommy looked like he was put into the driver seat of the Polestar with a shoehorn. didn't look very roomy for longer trips, especially between the door and console.
I see Polestar is building on current trend in Volvo design of making a car that's pretty beautiful and nice in many ways, but ultimately not competitive in the price department. Put more simply, across every category, Volvo makes a nice vehicle, but for $50 or $60k, there are simply so many other options that bring more to the table. That's how I view Polestar right now. I love me a Scandinavian sled, I love me a Volvo, I grew up driving them. But when it came time for me to spend my money on a new family car, I couldn't justify their high price tags.
I completely disagree about the idea that Tesla owns the minimalist interior design and Volvo/Polestar look like they are copying Tesla. But I'm kinda old, so maybe some kids might actually think that. But I also think that Tesla has minimalist interiors that comes across as cold and cheap. Volvo/Polestar have Scandinavian design interiors that are mostly minimalist but still warm and cozy.
I own a model Y performance and drive a polestar 2 for work. Please make no mistake the polestar is a nice car and drives well but in my opinion it's just not in the same league as my Tesla. Tesla is just so seamless technically , rocket ship fast, handles great with adjustments for track mode. As far as ergonomics and quality it's first class. There's a reason people buyTesla's, technology, safety and infrastructure .
That's why european EVs don't sell well in the US - they are either equipped similar to Tesla with a much higher price tag, or priced similar to Tesla with a much lower specs.
Nice comparison, 2022 vs 2024 cars. I wonder, you have both cars, why don't you do a 500 - 800 mile test of both cars driven at the same time in the same conditions and set once for all the differences in efficiency between the two ? You always say : Tesla doesn't match its EPA, when EPA is not important. What's important is the real range you can drive when you need it. And 270 miles in the Tesla Performance AWD (real world as you acknowledge it) is more than 220 miles in Polestar2 Performance AWD, which in a 1000 miles run equates to one more charge stop in the Polestar every 3 stops in a Tesla.
Range is important but it's far from the full story. I bought my polestar instead of a Tesla because it has better build quality, is more comfortable, still has buttons where it counts, has a cluster and I can make changes to where the air blows on the A/C with normal knobs. Tesla's have the range and supercharger network but that isn't enough to make me buy one. Oh and polestar just looks way better in my opinion. Even the highland refresh on Tesla is uninspiring to me.
@@kevinq3186and it’s fine with me. Everyone has the right to chose whatever he likes. Polestar was on my list too, but getting one takes about 2 years on a waiting list. I went with what it was available now. And never looked back.
No Radar, no Ultrasound proximity sensors, no 360 vision, no stalks, no BSM lights in side mirrors, no radar cross-traffic warning, no driver instrument screen, no hatch, no SiriusXM = No dice …….
Barely-working app, no memory/non power adjust steering, horrid huge and old looking key fobs, no sentry mode, atrocious 360 camera quality, buggy Android Automotive OS which requires a reboot every hour on the hour, zero meaningful software updates from the crap developers (which are riddled with bugs still), very obsolete processing power=no future meaningful features, can’t show 2 different app features on the center screen at the same time (I.e. maps and music), cramped back seat with huge floor hump, less space than the 3 despite the hatch, no reliable charging infrastructure, Chinese, overpriced yet horrible depreciation, no tax credit. 2021s with less than 30k miles are selling for less than $30k…that’s Land Rover depreciation! 😮 Now, watch some clown post “I don’t have those problems 😢” right after this.
Polestar efficiency is horrendous. My model Y destroys it. I rented a polestar for my recent trip to Denver. Driving dynamics were great but tech, efficiency, charging speed, cupholders, seating comfort, blind spots were vastly worse than the model y. I also had an issue where the car couldn’t detect my phone for CarPlay half way through my rental.
I still love the Polestar's design and interior, Tesla's technology under the skin is cool and all, but their interiors and design language to me, just don't compare. Not to mention the build quality of Tesla's cars still leave something to be desired. It'll be nice when the other manufacturers switch to NACS, to get access to Tesla's supercharging network. Another comparison I'd make, as a suggestion, throw the BMW i4 into the mix, since it technically competes in that segment too.
Yikes, man. Just say "let rear seat-heat on". That's all you gotta do to turn them on. ... The windshield in my Model Y started unexpectedly fogging up recently. I just said "windshield defrost on" and voíla! It was on. No fumbling for redundant, wasteful, and unsafe buttons.
Shouldn’t you be comparing this to the model Y? Comparing the pole start of the model three seems a bit odd Edit: Siri did a horrible dictation to my comment haha
A 'liftback' is when a fastback happens to be a hatchback as well. You can have a fastback coupe or sedan that's not a hatch, and you can have a hatchback that isn't a fastback, but a liftback is both.
That's why I'm here, trying to decide on a used M3 to get the 4k used EV credit (but then worry about warranty as miles go higher), or use the Costco member credit to lease a PS2. I was pretty decided on the M3, but now I need to go test drive the Polestar haha
you mentioned that polestar doesn't work on the tesla supercharger network. That is not true. I just got a 2024 model actually when this video came out and my first big charge was at a tesla supercharger. there are no other types of chargers in my area. Been using it whenever my trickle charge at home doesnt quite fill it up. gotta find the superchargers with the adapter I guess
1:32 That ain't Swedish. Polestar means "the star over the pole" as in all other stars seem to revolve around it in the sky. Same deal with 'Lodestar' being another name for the North Star, as it is the star that magnetic lodestones seem to point towards.
FYI, the rear seat heaters can be turned on with the command "set left/right/middle rear seat heater to high/mid/low". Voice commands work VERY well in a Tesla.
Watched a review on the M3 Highland and I agree with some other that said it's a much better comparison. Hopefully it's released to North America in 24
Volvo cars and Polestar are Chinese, while Volvo trucks are still Swedish. As far as the Model 3, the interior of this version they're testing and the new Highland Model 3 are night and day. It now has a much more plush and luxurious interior than before. When you compare the Highland and the new Polestar, there's no comparison. It beats it hands down. Other than it still doesn't have a console in front of the driver. However, there are inexpensive after market consoles you can buy for it. And of course, there's no comparison technology wise. Tesla has that hands down over every other manufacturer. But again, the vision only system hurts the Tesla. Although they're going to add high def radar soon. It might even be added be in the US version of the Highland. But the Model Y Juniper will definitely have it.
I guess technology winner depends a bit what is meant by technology. In a car for me most important technology is driving dynamics at both summer and winter, breaks, suspension, seats, streering feel and such things ... Tesla is not that great on those. It has pretty good infotainment. If that is only thing what matters then Tesla is strong. But even in infotainment usability in Tesla is not better ... but for sure it has more features in it.
Doesn’t the AWD Polestar SUCK on trips compared to the Tesla though? I was messing around in A Better Route Planner, and it looks like a Polestar would add hours to the trips I make a few times a year compared to the Tesla M3/Y. Range, charging speed aren’t good enough from Polestar IMO

I checked the seat in a Volvo XV 90 of 2022 which failed to impress with its confort vs the older models. So I am extremely sceptic about new seats in Polestar. There is no comparison with really comfortable seats from new models from Lincoln, the leader in the seats confort.

k. everyone getting bent up over the Geely connection... if the US government told the big three go pound sand like they should've in 08, and told the chinese they can sell EVs in north america if they build em here, we would have more EVs at more affordable price points than we do now. and get rid of the emissions carve-outs for big trucks while we're at it, and watch how fast the compact car segment revives.
I'd much rather have the Polestar. I care for the look and the interior.
In my P2 power reduction start about at 9%
Note for Roman - CarPlay works amazing with the Polestar 2, even though the OS is Google.
It’s actually one of the few cars to support dual screen CarPlay - guidance is shown on the driver cluster as well, just like the Google Maps system. It’s pretty awesome.
If you need wireless, there are adapters.
In my experience wired is rock solid reliable compared.
That isn't really anything to brag about though. Wireless Carplay on my 2021 Accord Hybrid works fine.
Drove the Polestar at the LA auto show....I loved it! Coming from a GTI, it felt less compromised and more comparable than the Tesla. Tesla comes with a learning curb....Polestar feels like home
Feels like home, baby!
Love that Dad is grumpy and Son is optimistic. I enjoy their disagreements because they are both right.
I would say Tesla = minimalist. Volvo/P* = organic modern.
Polestar all day for me. Better build quality and ride.
Definitely but the motors have been having issues so definitely will take the one that has a more reliable drive train. The polestar 4 looks to be amazing tho.
Only better ride if the Ohlins are adjusted soft. But then the polestar wallows on canyon roads.
I’ll take cybertruck or Model 3 refresh, much quieter and softer suspension.
Same for me with a Tesla. Next car is a polestar
Same money, premium quality throughout. Same range. One second difference in acceleration that you will never use in real life.
Umm, yes it is
Polestar does qualify for $7,500 credit if you lease, then you can buy it out later!
Every EV will qualify if you lease. Hahaha 😆
We love our Polestar 2 but they are way too expensive new and EV depreciation is crazy. You can find a used fully loaded Polestar 2 for $30k with 10,000 miles when it was $70k the year before.
Thats exactly what I said! Im 20k upside down in mine... but its turns heads and has been a great car. 50k miles in 1.5 years and its been effortless!
@@theeternalnightmare2630 until the screen goes blank or needs a reboot while driving.
@@normt430 pretty sure that something like that could happen to any vehicle that has digital gauges.
@@theElemDragon insturment panels behind the steering wheel don't need rebooting like Telsa's screen does.
Highland fixed this issue you have
The biggest negative about the Polestar is the narrow cockpit.
@@krane15the polestar 2 isn’t a ground up EV tho.
@@krane15polestar 4 you should look at. No hump and heaps of head and leg room!
Being from Colorado I didn’t think you’re skip discussing the heat system designs. Does the Polestar use a heat pump for all system as the Tesla does? Very important for everyday use in cold weather, correct?
With the Plus package the Polestar 2 has a heat pump
Cool weather; heat pumps drastically drop in efficiency as the weather gets colder, since the design needs more power to make the coils colder than the outside temp to work. That’s why you don’t see heat pumps used much in freezing areas, since traditional heating methods work better.
Polestar is a winter beast with its 7000 Watt heater. Designed in Sweden after all 🇸🇪
@@Cloud30000heat pumps are still more efficient in cold.
That would be using just shy of 10% of the cars battery every hour if true.@@conrado800
Nice comparison and quite fair, thank you, gentlemen! Refreshed Model 3 is much closer to Polestar in interior quality, and has a rear entertainment screen that gives you movies as well as access to seat heater controls. I wonder when we get it in USA?
Also in the new M3 Roman would have been able to set his seat heater on the back seat passenger screen.
Except one car cost 15,000 less my son
1st quarter of 2024, or very early 2nd quarter. Depending on how quickly they can sell out the current inventory.
@@777Outrigger nah, Polestar and Volvo are late in the game it took Tesla a decade to make a profit.
Here in Europe the Polestar2 performance got 82KwH and 350KW.Seems like another battery in the US
It is for the dual motor. Single motor rwd has the same one as you though.
Blasphemy! When do you think they will update the battery for the NA market? Desperate Canadian here waiting
Highland doesn't have an instrument cluster. Or stalks.
Great video! Literally the two cars I’m cross shopping
The Tesla one second faster 0-60 really doesn’t seem like enough of a reason to get one over the polestar, which seems better in every other way possible. Also, these reviews always talk about the federal and state credit which isn’t even going to be available at all times and is different per state
One second is a huge advantage, but only if you're racing.
But the pricing makes a difference. The Long range AWD Polestar 3 is $64,400. The Dual Motor Performance Model 3 is $51,000. Polestar and Volvo make and are making very compelling EVs, but they should be able to do that with such a price gap. And Tesla is profitable with their Model 3, unlike Polestar.

@@777Outrigger motor Trend just bought a +$70k Model Y!
The Model 3 is just a modern day Corolla in California.
What do you mean you couldnt figure out how to open the door? What door? And why does it take 1%?
Got a used loaded P2 with performance pack and all the options and 12.5k miles for $32k. Extremely fun
Also have a MY 2023. They are a terrific combo.
Love the polestar styling particularly the exterior. That front camera though looks like a snow/ice collector.
Most exterior cameras are heated.
I just rented a Polestar 2 at Hertz. Almost perfect. Easy to learn. Everything where it should be.
I'm 194 cm, how did you not fit? Hahaha
A USED Polestar 2 is the best deal in EVs right now. Plenty to be had for 30k! Even a bit under that.
Yeah, you’re crazy to even consider one new…they depreciate by like 40% in a year…
And the year after you buy it it will be 20k! haha If you want to waste money go for it.
Yes, if you're tall your right knee may rub up against the center console, which is really my only complaint about the vehicle.
I'm 6' tall and it took about a week to get used to it. I like it now but can completely understand how the console would annoy others.
for sure has a cockpit feel and can feel cramped for some. i'm 178 cm and i got used to it on my test drive.
No matter how good other EVs get, Tesla still has one unassailable advantage: the supercharger network. In the UK they actually have 2: Tesla chargers are also cheaper than any other network.
But 90% of Americans charge at home...
'Unassailable'?! Do you know what they're doing next year?
@@normt430 same here, but sooner or later you have to do a road trip. I do a 200 mile trip every month or 2 to visit my mother. She lives in a flat (apartment) so I can’t charge when I get there.
That long, high center console does not help matters either. Smaller rear seats than M3 as well. Only wins space comparison in the trunk…
Grocery flip isn't a standard in base models. I forget which pack is needed. There are three "packs" with Polestar. Plus, Pilot, Performance and then you choose either Single Motor or Dual AWD. Dual AWD makes it 400+hp even without the performance package.
Comes with plus. Performance adds no HP btw
Only if u upgrade the software which is 5000+1200 for the performance pack first then the upgraded software
I'd Choose The Polestar as it looks and Feels like a Regular Car
Roman made perfect sense in his comments about the minimalist aesthetics that Volvo pioneered, but Tesla capitalized and "owns." I get it.
He then went on to complain that the Tesla was too minimalist and couldn't heat his seats. Hardly owning it.

Seats comfort is like shoe comfort. Unless you have one tailored to your body the comfort will be hit and miss.
Polsstar looks better❤
We've owned a 2022 Polestar 2 for almost two years, equipped much like the one you tested, minus the performance pack. It's been a great car so far for us. When we bought ours it did qualify for the full $7500 tax credit, sadly with the "inflation reduction act" that went away. We've put on about 16k trouble free miles. I was nervous going to an EV in MN, especially since my wife is NOT a tech person, but she's loved the Polestar 2 and said just the other day how much she likes to drive it. We do have ice vehicles to drive if we need to, but for 98% of our driving the EV works great.
Given the extra storage with a frunk and under the rear hatch, give us a spare tire!!!
That polestar is simply not competitive
I absolutely despise the minimalist interior on a Tesla. The new ones don't even have a physical turn signal or gear selector. Having to lift your arm up and look at a screen to switch gears is just complete BS. The polestars interior at least has a proper gear selector, and physical buttons for common use things. Not sure if that justifies the price difference though.
LOL, I just got through writing several vary long passage expressing my disdain regarding the exact same thing. Even worse, reviewer that say it as if its something to appreciate or to covet. In fact, all I see is cost cutting.

Roman I totally understand what you are saying and I agree with you
I completely disagree about the idea that Tesla owns the minimalist interior design and Volvo/Polestar look like they are copying Tesla.

A 700 miles to the coast for us is like 45 minutes difference between Tesla and the rest.

I still love the Polestar's design and interior, Tesla's technology under the skin is cool and all, but their interiors and design language to me, just don't compare. Nope, can’t compare a sedan to a crossover/SUV
Ok, they classify it as a fastback. I guess I see it as a crossover with that lift gate. But the Model S has a lift gate and that is a sedan.
A 'liftback' is when a fastback happens to be a hatchback as well. You can have a fastback coupe or sedan that's not a hatch, and you can have a hatchback that isn't a fastback, but a liftback is both.
Especially since the Polestar is based on CMA architecture or a XC40 small suv the Y makes sense.

Polestars and every non Tesla EV can only use version 3 superchargers and every generation after.
1:32 That ain't Swedish. Polestar means "the star over the pole" as in all other stars seem to revolve around it in the sky.
Same deal with 'Lodestar' being another name for the North Star, as it is the star that magnetic lodestones seem to point towards.
You forgot something -- literal translation vs actual meaning.
Definite _"'Frag-il-ee.' Must be Italian..."_ vibes going on there.
FYI, the rear seat heaters can be turned on with the command "set left/right/middle rear seat heater to high/mid/low".
Voice commands work VERY well in a Tesla.
If they were closer in price I´d take the Polestar but they dont so Tesla it is.
Watched a review on the M3 Highland and I agree with some other that said it's a much better comparison. Hopefully it's released to North America in 24
Polestar confidently says "high class "
Now PS2 is 299 a month for leasing. That makes it really competitive.
Useful information with all EVs.. what is the battery warranty / replacement costs
Free for 8-years or 100,000 miles for all EVs.
Get the VULVA
Which is to say what? The Chinese can't build good cars? Look around your house. Everything is Made in China.
Can you redo this one for the model 3 refresh.
Fair, depends on the type of comparison. There is nothing unfair about this one. Both these cars are for sale.
@@krane15 true but they were comparing a refreshed polestar with the non refreshed model 3
@@krane15 I've never said that it's unfair
A more fair comparison would be with the '24 Model Y Performance
Did you have the wheels on that Tesla painted or they looked like that factory?
Doesn’t the AWD Polestar SUCK on trips compared to the Tesla though? I was messing around in A Better Route Planner, and it looks like a Polestar would add hours to the trips I make a few times a year compared to the Tesla M3/Y.
Range, charging speed aren’t good enough from Polestar IMO
This is based on CMA platform which is ICE based to work in the XC40/C40 with gas/hybrid and diesel. So there are compromises as seen in the transmission tunnel along with added weight compared to Tesla Model Y which are ground EV's. Yes, range does suffer but this is from a legacy manufacturer so it is over built.
I'll take the Polestar over the tesla any day
I checked the seat in a Volvo XV 90 of 2022 which failed to impress with its confort vs the older models. So I am extremely sceptic about new seats in Polestar.
There is no comparison with really comfortable seats from new models from Lincoln, the leader in the seats confort.
My old Saab 9-5 Aero had really comfortable seats. The late model Buick's have some of the best foam density. Just not supportive or sporty.
not upgrading the battery, on a version that is also less efficient, is a real letdown.

A Model S would have been a better comparison. Polestar has some exciting EVs for 25/26.
Why not against a M3 Highland?
Polestar has very little noise intruding the cabin - that’s true.
Lost me at Chinese owned. I will say though that I’ve always loved Volvo seats and if those are Volvo inspired (copied), I’d be a fan
The EX30 will be made in the states, unlike electronic device you typed that on.
Tesla copied the Model T, which started without buttons
Horses don't run in gasoline and don't have turn signal stalks.
Roman is so loose with his info. Highland absolutely has no instrument cluster and neither does the cyber truck. lol they’re like the two most reported evs in the internet.
The Highland does not have a cluster nor does it have normal turn signal stalk or drive selector - everything in the central screen and lots of unhappy customers. Minimalism at its worst!
Yet it's selling like hot cakes oversees and will probably do the same once it releases in the US
The Long range AWD Polestar 3 is $64,400. The Dual Motor Performance Model 3 is $51,000. Polestar and Volvo make and are making very compelling EVs, but they should be able to do that with such a price gap. And Tesla is profitable with their Model 3, unlike Polestar.
MotorTrend said hold my beer: purchases +70,000 Model Y!
Remember, in the refresh model 3's, they will have a screen in the back as well, and they improved the quietness and ride quality.
We test drove one today, 13 year old daughter in back seat had zero interest in the rear display. She just used her phone and Chromebook. Without ultrasonic sensors, anything not seen by the camera will get hit. In the beginning, I thought the push button indicators were ok until we hit the dreaded roundabout, then instantly missed the stork! Engaging Autopilot is so terrible having to double push the right button! Yes, it is much quieter, but there are so many false alarms! Car is quieter, but the warning alarms sound much louder!
@@gregb1599so should i stick with a 2023 Tesla Model 3 Performance in 2027-2028?
The new refresh and cybertruck has the rear screen to turn on heated seats.
Why not use a refreshed Model 3?
4:30 damn the closing mechanism of that Tesla is crazy bad
Why do they always list MSRP? Model 3 has a $7.5k tax credit. Polestar gives everyone a $10k credit.
