  • Homeless and on opioid replacement therapy, Sharon a woman on the Streets in the City of Melbourne Australia, speaks of the loss of her parents, in and out of foster care & being ward of the State as a child. Not having anywhere stable like having the security of a family home, family and or permanent living as a child made Sharon turn to drugs to cope in her life growing up, resulting to dealing drugs to support her habit and being in prison as a result of it. Sharon has lost her brother to drug overdose & the other brother to Motor Neurone Disease (MND), her father was never there, her mother was always sick, she has lost her siblings, her relatives are distant and they do not speak with her, she does not keep in contact with them, and she doesn't know where they are, Sharon has no Family.
    Growing up without a father and a mother that is always ill would be hard for anyone, child or adult. I asked Sharon if she was granted three wishes what would she wish for?
    One of her wishes was to have her mother back in her life.
    I want to explore and document these matters to raise awareness for the human beings sleeping on our city streets, sleeping in rough situations because of their circumstances.
    We as a community should come together, I’m trying to build a team around me, to take this to the next step.
    If you think its important to spread awareness for these topics, show support.

    First of all, thankyou to the young man who is doing these interviews and thankyou to all others that may be involved. You are doing amazing work by spreading this kind of awareness and it is so important for people to see. This kind of raw and real insight into their lives is what we all need to see, to better our understanding of what is ACTUALLY going on and how some people need to wake the hell up and HELP these people. Keep up the incredible work, its people like you that actually save the world. I look forward to hearing more stories and getting to know these individuals.

    I'd like to hear from the people you interview where they think the system is broken and what areas need the most attention. Specifics. Their road blocks when trying to get help and change. Also, what small things would help them if people like you and me want to help. I worry about how they feel after sharing their stories.. is it re-traumatising for them? 💔 Sending you a hug Michael, long time no see x

    Good on this channel for highlighting the systemic homelessness issues which are significant in Melbourne. Its so very important to show the human side of our vulnerable people who are living rough o the streets and with the housing crisis this will get even worse. Everyone has a story and everyone is important and deserves a voice. No one should be living like this in Melbourne- shame on our system.

    Aged care and disability organisations have Support Worker positions but they also ask for a police check. Maybe once she is off methadone its worth calling every one of these organisations to ask whether they would consider her with her police record. Unlikely, but not impossible especially if some time has passed since last conviction and has turned life around. Could also enrol in a certificate in aged care or disability that would help with getting a job.

    • @UnheardVoicesMelbourne
      @UnheardVoicesMelbourne  2 месяца назад +3

      Yes definitely need to have certifications in those fields, her priors would have hit the time threshold if it's been long enough, and could possibly be okay if she hasn't been convicted of any crimes since, being involved in a support network in the community and courses involving addiction and recovery. Being on methadone shouldn't disqualify her from getting a job unless she is operating heavy machinery or doing brain surgery.😊 Sharon has since got temporary accommodation and is waiting for a permanent placement, it's a good possibility she could get a job in that line of work for sure, with a little support from the right people she could get there, I believe in her! She would be very grateful for your comment & for believing in her too!
      Thank you, Regards U.V.M

    Everyone have bad stories. I worked since l was nine. Jobs including farmhand, dishwasher, housekeeping ( cleaning toilets) now I’m professional driver/operator earning $2000+ per week after tax. I had times, collecting food of the rubbish and living in the car of my bad choices. I saw people making money illegally and I could have gone that way. But I choose to keep fighting and working. And now I’m ok. Long story short; I don’t feel sorry for people who was lazy and partying when I was working my ass off. Sorry

      @@UnheardVoicesMelbourne like I sad not everyone born lucky. We all had our challenges. I believe, people born with they character already printed in their genes. If you really want to achieve good in life, there’s always way out. If your genes is not a fighter , you’ll fail even if you had everything. There’s always excuses. I worked in farming in Australia and they always short of hand. Must be easier to sit and complain I guess. Don’t get me wrong, when I see someone in need I help. I just don’t like the idea feeling sorry for everyone who doesn’t fight.

      Her ways of coping and dealing with the trauma she had experienced, will not be the same way, as of how you would deal with your experiences. Every human deals with stress, anxiety and trauma, in their own unique, different ways, not everyone can see the light at the end of the tunnel with out some one telling them it exists, and or even believe in themselves to even try and improve their circumstances in the first place. They need people that care, that can support them, tell them they matter and worthy to be happy, to live a better quality of life and help them rehabilitate, to become proactive healthy individuals that have purpose & something to offer in life, help the ones who want to be helped. We can't help people who don't want to. U.V.M has experienced this.
      Sincerely

      @danozism 2 месяца назад

      @@RE-pn5yq It's not as simple as that. You need to tick a lot of boxes, and you need a steady address for a start, and it's not actually $300 p/w for everyone.
      I am immensely thankful that I have a roof over my head at the moment, and access to the internet.
      Even having that, I still found it extremely difficult to get gov't assistance- they basically make it as hard as possible, and once you get it, they can kick you off it if you don't go through all the bullshit they demand of you.
      So it's best not to judge people, especially if you don't really know how hard it is to survive after going through so much trauma and instability.

I know personally and many people that have had worse and still fine. Thr more you keep using yesterdays reasons you dont conteol tomorrow. @@OgglyGoogly some do and want a better life, I'm sure they would rather do something to improve their life, other than beg people for money on the streets everyday, some have mental health conditions and find it hard to sort themselves out. Mental health & homelessness is the title, do you have an understanding of what poor mental health means ? I'm sure they enjoy sleeping on the cold concrete floor at night getting assaulted while they sleep, I'm sure they chose to be in a violent relationship or they chose to have a father who isn't present or an alcoholic who abuses them, or a mother who was never around and chose drugs over loving them. I'm sure some people have had those experiences and turned into the human being you expect. Unfortunately it's not as simple as saying it's their choice. Some didn't even have a choice to begin with. Come on dude, think about what you're saying. I hope you're nice and warm in a bed with people who love & communicate with you everyday ♥️best wishes.

      @@UnheardVoicesMelbourne yes understanding all of that doesnt change the reality of the situation. Ive had friends thta theit fsther has raped themz the mother prostituted them out the courts removed them from their care to be put in ahome where the same thing happened still no drug use running their own business and not homeless.
      Have another had her face burnt with an iron by the first mums boyfriend, no dad in her life second mums boyfriend beat both of them, third one sexually assaulted her and her mum commit suicide and she had bo home for a but bow works and gome over her head this list goes on.
      So no sympathy for someone that doesnt change their life. You create a mental health issue by talen drugs and deciding to stuff up your life mire that is on your choice that you do control.
      Every time someone gives themselves an out is a failure. You own the stuff ups, ok so this happened to me this is what ive got to do. It is black and white the same as xhoices of tomorow. You choose your goal for tomorrow and you make choices today to accomplish those. It may seem hard not as hard as many people have it around the world ten times worse. But you move with what you are dealt with you are not owed a perfect life and you dont have a right to perfect life you make it the way you want it.
      There will be some where their mental health is to far gone that happens the strong survive the weak do not.
      It is also not about what hardships they have to endure or if they want it or not each is responsible for what they get out of life.
      Sure you will get sympathy from some vut it will still matter what choices you make that will determine your outcome at the end of it.
      You need to create a stronger mental mind to get through things and if you cant then there is the other way out.
      Reality is not always rainbows and better choices need to be made if you want to get out of a situation.
      Lets say you have no money there are ways ti get centrelink illegally, you can beg, you can sing even if bad at it, you can have sex with people for money or accomodation the list goes on.
      When you start saying oh I dont want to do that or I shouldbt have to do that is when you are enabling your own situation.
      There is a way out of the situation but you are choosing not to do it.
      You need to get a mental mindset of achievement and do what needs to be done to get to the next part of your goal.
      The same as I have orhers on the other end of the scale. Little Jim has meducal procedures and they cost x amount and he needs extra shifts and more money to cover x, Janes mum just died and she needs to cover funeral costs and mortgage, Bill had his insurance lapse on his house and his electric scooter caught in flames and bow has no house and is sleeping on his friends couches all these people requiring the work but Scott the Ceo needs to trim fat off the company to keep share holders happy to keep their investment in so he fires all of the above and sends their jobs off shore.
      He takes a bonus, shareholders are happy and the rest well they bow have to get tougher.
      Thats the way it goes.
