Australia is an island, a continent and a country - all three. Oceania is not a continent, it is a geographic area mainly in the south west Pacific Ocean that includes Australia, New Zealand, PNG and many islands of Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia. It also includes several tectonic plates. The geological definition of a continent is "a large continuous mass of land surrounded by water". Most of Oceania is under the Pacific Ocean so it does not meet the definition of a continent. Some teachings in some parts of the world (remaining nameless for diplomatic reasons) confuse continents with a tectonic plates. Now that I've got that out of the way, I'm originally from Queensland but I have lived in Melbourne for 41 years and love it. You have given a very good overview of the city centre covering interesting places. Also, good to see you discovered Melbourne's coffee culture. We are the city that sent Starbucks bankrupt in Australia - a cafe that doesn't provide good quality coffee doesn't survive. I'll be watching more of your videos. Enjoy your stay.

Hi Gordon and Renata. Last time in Melbourne for us was 2010 to watch the Cricket Ashes. Enjoy your trip. Interesting to see the Lincoln Cathedral plate in the cathedral there, we live in Lincoln England x
Welcome to Marvellous Melbourne, the city where I was born and live. Regarding the older buildings - In county Victoria, the state of which Melbourne is the capital, there was a a huge gold rush in the early 1850s, making Melbourne the richest city in the world at that time. This is why there are so many older, beautiful buildings of which you have shown some. These were being demolished by greedy, uncaring developers until the building unions around the mid to late 20th century refused to be part of this and had strikes and demonstration marches, backed by the community, to preserve them. Regarding newer buildings -There has been quite an extension to the CBD (central business district/downtown) with many new and interesting buildings and areas. The architects have had their fun!
Fantastic. I’m from Melbourne and you are excellent with your fact. Hope you are enjoying and also managed to go to other places just outside Melbourne like the Great Ocean Road, Phillip Island, Grampians etc
On the schoolkids in hats, its a skin cancer measure. Most schools (primary schools at least) barely allow kids to go outside without hats. While the ozone hole has basically closed, its still thin over much of Australia and even cloudy winter days can be a melanoma risk.

Welcome! I only discovered your channel a week or so ago, I was searching for videos on Mexico for an upcoming trip, and now here you are in my city! You did such a great job too. Sometimes I watch traveler's videos on Melbourne out of curiosity, it's interesting to see my own city through someone elses eyes, and honestly this is the best one I've seen. When you went to AC/DC lane I was thinking, oh they should watch the Long Way to the Top music video, and then what do you show next ... haha! I hope you have a great time here in Australia, you both seem like such genuinely lovely people, thanks for your informative videos!
Hi, I love your channel. Thanks for the great content! My wife and I are moving from Europe to Melbourne. We are a very calm and quiet couple who love nature. What suburbs or towns (well-connected to Melbourne) would you recommend for accommodation for mid-January for a 5-month stay? We are looking for a place to disconnect from the buzz of the city and have the chance to easily get to the center whenever we want to. Anything you can let us know will be super helpful. Thanks!
Hello and WOW a big move. I am not that familiar with the area...but some options that I think are worthy of investigation as I suspect they are all cheaper than MEL itself and were of interest in our planning: Geelong - smaller city but growing fast across the bay Smaller but near ocean Mount Eliza to Sorrento Non-ocean - I heard Ballarat is growing fast I will say we did hear that real estate has gone thru a boom, like Canada/USA, so things may be pricey right now with a shortage of housing. I am sure there are options all over Victoria state as it looks like quite the perfect temperate zone to live in.
Great video ! I lived here as a teenager and young working adult. You've captured the essence of the CBD very well. Enjoy the rest of this wonderful city.
I went to a nice restaurant in Melbourne called Chin Chin, also drove to the great ocean road, Philip island to see the Penguin parade and drove the Great ocean road, beauty
I like every second of it thou' you said the video is too long. Great start. Looking forward to the next video from Melbourne. And could you take a ride on those awesome city trams?
I 100% agree! As a Melbournian, they produced a great short intro to the CBD. Although, I wouldn't have spent as much time on the street art as they did.
I’m someone that is born and bred in Melbourne, What most people don’t know is the lane ways you visited have a very interesting feature, they were used for something totally different to what they are today.., They were used to collect people’s sewage, as most outer suburbs have laneways in between two streets, as they were also for the Shit Carter’s to collect waist without people seeing it getting emptied and you couldn’t smell what was happening just outside your back fence 😂
Melbourne is a lovely city of arts.👍 The Honda car at 18:11 may have been driven by former Japanese national soccer player Keisuke Honda. He was a member of the Melbourne Victory Football Club from 2018 to 2019, and may have been visiting the city for the first time in many years."Honda" Keisuke may have shown up in Melbourne in "Honda"'s car.😁
Welcome to my home city, Melbourne. I highly recommend getting to some of the suburbs and if Gordon likes coffee, get to a roasters cafe such as ONA or St. Ali. I don't understand the rivalry between Melbourne and Sydney, both are great cities. I hope you enjoy everything Australia has to offer. Also take some time to explore and learn about our indigenous history.
@@RenataPereiraTV Considering I noticed you very much noticed how multicultural it is here in Melbourne, I would suggest my very own home suburb of Footscray. It has a rough past but is super multicultural and going through gentrification. But it has been somewhat of a hub for migration so there are highlights of different periods with Italian, Greek and European migration in the 50s, Vietnamese and other Asian cultures in the 80s and 90s to African cultures in the 90s and 00s. It's really beautiful with amazing food.
Welcome to Melbourne. Nice to see our city through a visitor's eyes, you have done a great job. Only well heeled Melbournians go to Movida. Degraves Street and the Block Arcade have had many faces. A tour of the Block Arcade - behind the scene is very interesting. I would not have KOKO Black's overpriced goods. The Hook turn in Melbourne is the bane of drivers! welcome to Chinalia

Melbourne looks very well-managed and maintained. Honestly, it looks stunning and civilized. I'm from Vancouver (Canada) and the lack of hardcore drug users on the streets in Melbourne also stands out.
Al Pacino, thanks for watching....I am honored 👍😂✌ Oh, Melbourne is a big city and it has the same issues as all big cities. Btu I must say...Melbourne and Vancouver could be sister cities.
yeah right, just go to Richmond or St Kilda and you'll find plenty of drug users and weirdos... 34 years living here, and Melbourne is not a safe city anymore. All that glitters is not gold, trust me 😔
@@paolocardinali3951 Dude how is Melbourne not safer than it was in the 90s, 80s and possibly even early 2000's are you actually serious!? 🤣 Maybe you were just a child and didnt know the reality of the city but almost EVERY suburb in the west, north, parts of the east and inner city were fucked up. Hope you visited Melbourne cricket ground..Flinders Street station....and coffee shops a must....I loved your video fabulous. ...
Thank you very much!!! We have more Melbourne videos...though we must return to see some circket and have more flat whites.
Finally catching up on your Australian series. One thing noticed unlike your other videos, some of the shots were a bit blurry on and off. Cheers 👍
Thank you. We may have had a camera problem in Sydney. I think things need a thorough cleaning.
Finally you are in the city where I live. I m Indonesian but live in Melbourne, so welcome to Melbourne Renata and Husband.
Thank you! You have a great city and we enjoyed very much. What part of Indonesia?

Hello! Thank you very much! We enjoyed the UAE and will return!
Miss you Melbourne..since we moved to NSW
Original Home?
Hi, I love your channel. Thanks for the great content!
My wife and I are moving from Europe to Melbourne. We are a very calm and quiet couple who love nature. What suburbs or towns (well-connected to Melbourne) would you recommend for accommodation for mid-January for a 5-month stay? We are looking for a place to disconnect from the buzz of the city and have the chance to easily get to the center whenever we want to.
Anything you can let us know will be super helpful.
Thanks!
Hello and WOW a big move. I am not that familiar with the area...but some options that I think are worthy of investigation as I suspect they are all cheaper than MEL itself and were of interest in our planning:
Geelong - smaller city but growing fast across the bay
Smaller but near ocean Mount Eliza to Sorrento
Non-ocean - I heard Ballarat is growing fast
I will say we did hear that real estate has gone thru a boom, like Canada/USA, so things may be pricey right now with a shortage of housing. I am sure there are options all over Victoria state as it looks like quite the perfect temperate zone to live in.
Well done Renata. You’re very informative. Come to Sydney next.
Thank you! Coming right up!
Really impressed by your knowledge, and how positive you are! Hope you enjoy your experiences in Australia.
Thank you! 😃 We love it in Australia
Wonderful . Thanks you both of you.
Thank you very much we appreciate
You always make me happy and make me smile. Thanks!

Great video ! I lived here as a teenager and young working adult. You've captured the essence of the CBD very well. Enjoy the rest of this wonderful city.
thank you very much!
As a long time subscriber of your channel I loved this video of my home town. Look forward to the next instalment.
Thank you very much I appreciate! Loving our visit to Melbourne
It's really amazing
Thanks for watching
I went to a nice restaurant in Melbourne called Chin Chin, also drove to the great ocean road, Philip island to see the Penguin parade and drove the Great ocean road, beauty
great videos Renata nice to meet you !!
Hello and thank you for watching! Welcome to the channel.
Are you fliming on your phone? quality is great. Also im from Melbourne and the video is awesome.
Thank you. Combination of equipment. Canon R, cell phones and Go Pro Hero. Quite amazing how far technology has progressed.
I like every second of it thou' you said the video is too long. Great start. Looking forward to the next video from Melbourne. And could you take a ride on those awesome city trams?
Love longer videos!
Beautiful city..10 hours fly from Chiang Mai Thailand.
You guys did a great job editing and showcasing Melbourne! My 1st video of you guys, and I'll be tuning in for the rest! Welcome to Australia!!!
I 100% agree! As a Melbournian, they produced a great short intro to the CBD. Although, I wouldn't have spent as much time on the street art as they did.
I’m someone that is born and bred in Melbourne,
What most people don’t know is the lane ways you visited have a very interesting feature, they were used for something totally different to what they are today..,
They were used to collect people’s sewage,
as most outer suburbs have laneways in between two streets, as they were also for the Shit Carter’s to collect waist without people seeing it getting emptied and you couldn’t smell what was happening just outside your back fence 😂
Thanks for sharing...live in North America...called back alleys where garbage is picked up
Because of the Australian sun and even during winter, it's mandatory for all primary school kids to wear sun safe hats! 😁
Thanks for the information. Great idea/good practice. Probably should be followed around the world...especially in Texas/Florida and my Brazil.
Long time no see....finally you both come back...cant wt you guys explore indonesie again
Thank you for your support

Melbourne is a lovely city of arts.👍
The Honda car at 18:11 may have been driven by former Japanese national soccer player Keisuke Honda.

Thank you for your suggestions/sharing...we are loving Australia so far. Which suburbs would you recommend?
Thank you Christine Witton...we appreciate!

I suggest you visit Mt. Buller next. Pretty far from Melbourne, but worth the trip! The tobogganing is a must-not-miss.
Thank you for that suggestion. Will have to check it out! 👍😀
Maybe you were just a child and didnt know the reality of the city but almost EVERY suburb in the west, north, parts of the east and inner city were fucked up. And the far south east was actually some of the worst areas.
@@hiz24airness house break ins, car jackings, stabbings, shootings and rapes… I think you probably don't watch the news… and I forgot about the burning of shops for gang wars… C'mon!

Hi Renata welcome to Australia! Glad you are highlighting that we are a diversity rich multicultural country. Unfortunately most people overseas think of us all as just Anglo-Saxons which is a shame because we are more culturally rich than that!
Thank you! It is a rich culture you have...we are enjoying our time here
