"A good documentary should derail your entire day, unless you had planned ahead to watch it, in which case you are one together human being. Enough fluff, this is a very good, and extraordinarily surprising story to see for a Canadian who already feels that human rights are not shared equally in this world. I was planning to sit around, and watch network crap until I just started watching this to see if I could watch it later, and I was immediately hooked. The first thing shown to you is a 70's era anchorman talking about the plan of sitting ministers to simply round up people for no reason, and move them away, then taint their drinking water to sterilize them in a "Humane" manner. Yes hooked I was, so I stayed to the end, and learned a lot that I thought I knew, but even I had thought that these things had stopped, and that things in "1st" world countries was getting better in how we were treating one another. Just shows how deluded we all are. I Enjoyed the no holds bared journalism from John Pilger, who has been trying to get people to pay attention to this issue for almost 30 years. Just because their ancestors roamed the land like the herds they followed does not mean they did not own it like all men(at least that is my take). If the act of observation changes the observed, then could not the aboriginal peoples say that by observing nature they shaped it?"

It's not 100% accurate. Some of this is based on knowledge from propaganda information. It's hard to prove it's all true. So, to teach it in schools, parents can sue the education board for pushing propaganda. It may be all true. Who knows? But not all of it is proven

I left high school in 2003 and was taught very little about the history of aborigines in my own country. I learnt more by working with and forming friendships with many aborigines in the min8ng industry. I used to fear aborigines because I grew up with parents in hospitality who had a lot of issues with aborigines but now I have a very strong admiration for their culture and who they are, very soulful and spiritual people with strong connection to country. I hope the younger generations realise how important their culture and customs are and learn them to carry them forward before this valuable information is lost.

Yes at the very least they should teach a lot more history in the Australian School Systems. We teach History about so many other Countries & we comprehensively cover every major War, but when it comes to our own Aboriginal History, its glossed over.

It simply isn't true that Australia has failed to invest in remote communities. There have been many instances of quality housing being provided, but the communities burn them down. These are a nomadic people who have spent millennia living outside under the stars, cooking over a camp fire and constantly on the move. They do not understand how to live in one place and don't necessarily value western ways. The problem is not one that can be solved by simply giving them houses, electricity, showers, toilets and stoves.

It's amazing how much is swept under the rug. I did a tour of Lake Argyle and felt a sense of sadness at the thought of the indigenous people displaced when the dam was created. I asked the tour operator directly and was told they have been asked not to talk about that history.

I am living in central Europe, I have part of my family moved to au. I always considered Australia as beautiful country, with high level of moral, cultural life. We have gipsys minority in Slovakia. Wow. A powerful documentary everyone should watch. Side note - I'm a kiwi who lived in Sydney 1997 - 2000 when I was in my late twenties. I worked as a prostitute in Surrey Hills and was one of the few girls who would see the very few Indigenous men who came through. Without exception every one of them were gentle and caring.

Im confused. They showed aboriginal people living in a shed, under trees and said this is how they live now? suggesting its not good? But compared to what- they have been living on the land thousands of years. No houses, no airconditioner, no power, no indoor shower or running water. They were nomads, moving around, living in huts, caves, animal skins, they were happy. So why did the reporter say it was sad to wash your child with a hose? Most aboriginal people don't shower or wash! They swim in the river, ocean. They always cook outside, they danced, hunted, shared stories, have inter regional and family wars, they stole women from their enemies, they were violent, the killed, ! Their culture doesn't get passed on because they have no rules, no elders telling the young ones what to do? Before white settlement they didn't have the langue, words for Science, Biology, architecture, progression happens everywhere with good and bad results. You cant just say all the bad points without the good, vice versa, you cant say all the good and omit the bad!

I'm a white South African. Moved to Australia during height of apartheid as a child. Mum exiled after working for Donald Woods paper for UK . Moved to Australia a year later Australia is nothing like South Africa.
Aboriginal people only received the vote in the 60's and there is systemic racism however it's nothing like apartheid, which shocked me to the core, returning to SA as a young teen .

My family immigrated to Brisbane from NZ in 1982..i was 2 yrs old. The injustices experienced by indigenous Australians is disgusting. I went to a private school all through primary and remember well what we were taught in school about colonisation. For the lack of a better word..it was a white washed education when it came to indigenous Australia. As a child of a Maori father and a Samoan mother i can speak first hand at the effects of colonisation on an idigenous population. When i compare what happened In NZ, Samoa, and Australia i can't help but see the similarities but also the vast differences and i feel sad for the indigenous Australians, they by far have suffered the most at the hands of their colonisers. EVERY Aussie should watch this!

So I can ONLY imagine what our indigenous people would have been experiencing many centuries before us. The only city where it's a bit progressive and has less racism ( albeit , this does not mean NO racism) is Melbourne. My African and First Nations friends say this about living here in Melbourne, compared to Perth or Queensland.

The only racism ever shown is the few times a year a Caucasian person is recorded on a mobile being racist. The media want to portray it as only occurring from one demographic. On my travels i met an interesting woman who shared she used to be a social worker she was trained under oz fed govt to extract aboriginal children from their families. She refused to comply to extract the kids so they imprisoned her for 2 months before releasing her no charges... She thinks if her family did not push for her whereabouts she may never been released.

I was living near by to La Perouse in the early 70's & there is a small gaol built just off shore. The Aborigines of that area were locked in those damp horrid cells...just for being 'problematic'.
I was a 10£ pom & very young & that place scared the life out of me...just by looking at the place.
Convicts came to Australia of their own free will and were housed in cells that had swimming pools, gymnasiums and a Butler.

It raises so many questions. It is a reminder, how important it is to break free from the mainstream beliefs, and do your own research.

We need to see more of John and his honesty in all our work. Homelessness is one of our greatest tragedies that is only getting worse across all demographics, in real numbers over 150000 people are on the streets at night, up 50000 in 10 years.
I started work at 16 and rented 1 room shacks, working as many as 3 jobs to save up enough to get a decent deposit to buy a basic house in an outer Melbourne suburb in my mid 30's; I could have bummed around surfing like some of my mates living on the dole, who now are penniless and homeless.
