The reason for the all-white outfits is three-fold. First, their songs usually have a very positive and uplifting message, so they want to differentiate themselves from the darker side of metal, from the masses of metal bands who wear all black, are covered in tattoos, and so on. The second reason is that they wanted to show that the women of metal can be feminine and elegant, while still being heavy. The third reason is that they are very tiny! The tallest member is about 5'2", so they can be hard to pick out against the stage backdrops for fans who aren't right up next to the stage, so the white outfits make them stand out ... in both respects!
Also interesting that you mentioned Dream Theater while also noting that there were no synths (there are, but they're in the background in this song). The dark-haired guitarist Miyako is also a world-class classical pianist (check out their song Swan Song with Chopin intro). She could hold her own against Jordan Rudess (or Derek Sherinian, or Kevin Moore, depending on your favored era of Dream Theater), while blonde guitarist Midori, the more classically-aligned and technical of the two, could probably go toe-to-toe with Petrucci. She doesn't use synths very often, except as background, but she does do some piano leads, and a few keyboard leads.

The two guitar players, " M & M " Midori ( blonde ) & Miyako are my favorite guitar duo! Every song they do has blazing solos & harmonies. Miyako is also a world class pianist as well as their main composer but they have all written music for the band. Asami is the lead vocalist & writes 95 % of their lyrics. Miho on bass is the founder of the band & Haruna, is the 4 ft 9 inch dynamo on the drums. ❤🎙🎸🎹🥁😎👌

    LOVEBITES - Holy War lyrics:
Look at those black clouds, it’s going to rain blood
People live in fear, covered in mud
Singing oh Gloria to change the prophecy
    We are the metal warriors
    Fighting the darkness for sisters
There is a thousand, a thousand of evils
Hush, do not wake up Satan’s devils
Singing Hallelujah to save our majesty
    We are the metal warriors
    Fighting the darkness for brothers
    Shining blade and burning heart
Into the Gates of Hell we march
Immortal soul, let there be light
    Into the Eye of Heaven
    Eagles at a holy war
    Fly higher than the sun
We are one for all and all for one forevermore
Kingdom of Heaven, never shall we fall
    Reincarnation, wait for your call
Singing oh, Gloria to change the prophecy
    We are the metal warriors
    Fighting the darkness for sisters
    Morning star and dying moon
Into the Gates of Hell we march
Mighty soul, let there be hope
    Into the Eye of Heaven
    Eagles at a holy war
    Fly higher than the sun
Stand up in the name of the God of heavy metal
What do we live for? What do we fight for, tonight?
But the world is beautiful, worth fighting for
Only have one thing on our mind
    Facing the fate, holy war
Singing Hallelujah to save our majesty
    We are the metal warriors
    Fighting the darkness for brothers
    Shining blade and burning heart
Into the Gates of Hell we march
Immortal soul, let there be light
    Into the Eye of Heaven
    Eagles at a holy war
    Fly higher than the sun
We are one for all and all for one forevermore
What do we live for? What do we fight for, tonight?
But the world is beautiful, worth fighting for
Only have one thing on our mind
    Facing the fate, holy war

Lovebites is just incredible! My personal favourites from them: are Shadowmaker, Break the wall, Raise some hell and Scream for me. The duo solos from Midori and Miyako will melt your face in every song. I don't know what's in their drinking water, the female musicians in Japan are just so badass and superior. If you're into hard rock music also, you should definitely check out Band-Maid. Band-Maid is a bit the OG in the game. Their solos are not as over the top as Lovebites but everything they do is so fitting to their songs. They explore many different genres in their music and everything they put out is so catchy, addictive and full of surprises. "Domination" and "Freedom" both live are the standard introduction:)

Lovebites are such a great metal band and have a very loyal fanbase i hope they find a new bass player and come out of the hiatus soon! Another band for you to check out is BAND-MAID...not metal but are self described as "an impossibly hard rocking maid band." and that they are. a huge diverse range of styles and genres but sticking to a rock core. Check out Domination Live, Freedom Live, Play Live or Onset to get a good taste of BAND-MAID. there are over 100 quality songs in the BAND-MAID catalogue and the Maidiacs(fans) will tell you there is not a bad song in the bunch.
BAND-MAIDS 2 guitarists Kanami and Miku did a 2 hour live Twitch stream with Herman Li a few months ago, it was awesome and Herman even auditioned to the band lol. there is a short version of the stream on Hermans YT channel.
BAND-MAID also appear as themselves in the hit Netflix action movie KATE, which features 2 songs(Choose Me and Blooming) by them. HBO Max and DC comics hit show "Peacemaker" also featured BAND-MAIDS "Choose Me" in episode 3 season 1
    Cheers

Thanks from Japan 有難う💛 We say "Japan is a country obsessed by Rock Music". I believe the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Talking about hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many and excellent all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Some are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh oh, we also say "Japan is a country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

They write their songs, this one written by Miho (bass, band founder) music and lyrics. Miyako (guitar, black hair) has written about half the songs with Asami (vocals) writing most of the lyrics. Midori (guitar, blond ponytail) and Miyako practice/rehearse in Miyako's home studio to stay in sync. FYI Asami is singing in English. Final engineering and production of their songs is done in Finland by the same people who do Nightwish. Miho wanted an European sound, not a Japanese sound.
Right now they are in a hiatus, so we are waiting on what's next.
Band Maid will be touring the US in October, check their schedule to see if you can go see them. Best Rock band in the world.

I started looking for new music about a year and a half ago. While I've found a lot of different types of musical acts from a lot of different countries, the rock and metal bands from Japan have been my favorite. BAND-MAID was the first group I found, but within days I found LOVEBITES, Unlucky Morpheus, Babymetal, and Wagakki Band. Since then I've found Galneryus, Ningen Isu, Nemophila, Asterism, and the LISA-X Band. There's so much diversity and skill in all of those bands.

Scary thing is Holy Wars is kinda just another Tuesday as far as songs go for Lovebites. They have some strong thrash numbers that kick down the door and break everything. Break the Wall, Hammer of Wrath, Set the World on Fire. Their discography is deep and varied as well. I recommend Shadowmaker. It does not get enough attention and may be their finest overall work (personal taste of course).

Thanks for a great Reaction to Lovebites! Lots of the Wolfpack will be here after this reaction. Lovebites' mascot and Spirit Animal is the Wolf, because they consider themselves Lone Wolves of Heavy Metal. They don't wear black and have tatoos, they dress like Greek Goddesses and are quite feminine. And their lyrics are mostly positive and uplifting - BUT they can flat blow your face off, and make it look easy in the process. You mentioned no 'synth'. It's not a synth, but there is a white grand piano onstage behind Miyako (black haired guitarist), and she is a concert quality classical pianist. Check out their Swan Song [+Chopin Intro] for a different sound (they have many different sounds) ruclips.net/video/WBhtqgiXEA4/видео.html (Miyako does have/use a synth and keytar - but let's save that for later 🙂) 🐺

Some people initially compare Lovebites to Dragonforce, but the resemblance begins and ends with speed. Take Dragonforce, add the songwriting chops of Priest and Metallica, the brutality of Black Sabbath, put Bruce Dickinson on vocals… and make them look like angels: Now you have Lovebites.
    Some background:
They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and soul of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the greatest European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other bands. The whole group then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed most of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics.
They studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance is that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters.
This is one of their usual first songs for reactors, and rightly so--you get a good sense of the band. They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like a demon). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band." Here are more clips you should check out:
Their most recently posted live clips, “Set the World on Fire” ruclips.net/video/99zsH6iG_6c/видео.html and “Don’t Bite the Dust” ruclips.net/video/oHnKGEj1CMc/видео.html, which are both from their recently released concert DVD “Heavy Metal Never Dies”.
"Edge of the World" and "We the United", back to back: ruclips.net/video/sl0-U-ykJCU/видео.html They form an incredible journey from darkness and despair to light and hope.
Also, “Empty Daydream”, which starts as a ballad and becomes a real rocker: ruclips.net/video/lXh_uMM94jU/видео.html.
Miyako is also a professional-level classical concert pianist, and was headed for a career in classical music, before picking up the guitar. If you want to see what she can do on the piano, watch “Swan Song” WITH the prelude, which is Chopin’s “Revolutionary Etude”. Miyako wrote “Swan Song” using elements from several classical pieces including the Etude. This link should work: ruclips.net/video/WBhtqgiXEA4/видео.html.
For a thrasher with heavy Metallica vibes, “Break the Wall” ruclips.net/video/G021aP2ao6Y/видео.html includes two gorgeous and completely contrasting solos by M&M.
For a heart-stopping ballad, “Epilogue” ruclips.net/video/1ynnXDfEnnY/видео.html (this includes a second song, your choice whether or not to react to both)
Finally, while you will sometimes hear you should only react to live clips, actually their MV’s are epic and worth seeing. Here are three of the most spectacular:
    "When Destinies Align" ruclips.net/video/hLFelI93VkM/видео.html
    "Glory to the World" ruclips.net/video/-wJtD2XEXH4/видео.html
    "Winds of Transylvania" ruclips.net/video/HsE4Ub_Pjh8/видео.html.
You'll get lots of suggestions, just one thing: don't bother with Bloodstock footage, the sound quality is poor. Best to take suggestions with actual links. Also, you can’t go wrong with any of their official clips. Welcome to the Wolf-Pack!

You know what one of the biggest things you could be assume that they're singing Japanese but they are singing in American the accent is just a little heavy.

Hello. La Villa Strangiato. Rush ..Time machine live in Cleveland. It is a very complex song in some ways and there’s nothing but instrumental. There’s no singing or anything and very few people can put on a concert with Josh instruments and not seeing it all like these guys. I think if you do that one with rush she will be very very very happy. Also a note. It’s the guys playing just a few years before Rush quit touring forever. It’s also nine years later that Neil Peart died. It’s a great concert in their last few years you would love it. It’s a long title and if you would specifically put live in Cleveland Time Machine after the title it would be great

Also, they have songs that sound like Maiden, Priest, Slayer, Megadeth and DragonForce. Also, songs that sound like Rush and Dream Theater. They can do it all and have two of the best guitarists.

Glad you liked it, Travis. Great reaction, you noticed the different styles in the guitars as well as Miho's strong bass. Yes, the accent is thick with this one, but add the captions - when available - and you will get the happy message. This is indeed "happy metal". If you have the time, it is well spent in this company.
-And see: The Wolfpack is here 🤗
Btw, Miyako (black haired guitarist) is citing Gary Moore as an inspiration, you should check him out too. One of the great ones that never really had a break through in the US. Try this one: ruclips.net/video/7k07j7LcLqw/видео.html or - if you want some more Thin Lizzy: ruclips.net/video/HixdocH1tPc/видео.html (This is a tribute without Phil Lynnott)
Going down the japanese rabbit hole, would you fancy a piece of Van Halen - on violin? ruclips.net/video/eTb0TQtVT6k/видео.html or perhaps some Yngwie Malmsteen by the same vilonist: ruclips.net/video/E2hZDzJp9Pc/видео.html
The diversity in your reactions is apparent, I like that. Looking forward to the next one.
Oh, and doing Billy Strings, you must do some Molly Tuttle - what about a duet: ruclips.net/video/LJzz-Nuo-QQ/видео.html
And keeping with the country vibe: Colter Wall: ruclips.net/video/COUUmAthsbo/видео.html
Americana gold, go with Kelly Joe Phelps: ruclips.net/video/yKhwvYKV-Fk/видео.html / ruclips.net/video/uklaZi01m5Y/видео.html
    or Larkin Poe: ruclips.net/video/N3idn3XQN_w/видео.html / ruclips.net/video/Wy0RGsd2-JA/видео.html
    And a hidden gem, Brandi Carlile: ruclips.net/video/_ajWFc2VqWo/видео.html / ruclips.net/video/Vub-StwE77k/видео.html
    and ever so many more...

You missed the input from the drummer in your comments. Take a moment to consider what she does from start to finish. Then consider she keeps up this pace for the majority of a near 2 hour show.

Hi Travis, greetings from the Netherlands. I enjoyed watching your reaction. If you're looking to discover new music, I might have an interesting recommendation for you. Have you ever listened to Nightwish? If not, this would be a good opportunity to do so. They are a Finnish symphonic metal band with a Dutch singer, Floor Jansen. She has one of the best female voices in metal today. None of the Nightwish songs are alike. There are epic and melodic songs, like the one I’m recommending now, but they can also go really heavy on you and the next song could be very celtic sounding or even jazzy. Their music is exceptionally well composed and arranged. The lyrics are very powerful and poetic. Nightwish is best appreciated LIVE. Give the song ‘Ghost Love Score’ a try. It was recorded at Wacken 2013, in front of 82 000 people. You might be surprised. ruclips.net/video/47e_961OQWE/видео.html

LOL - as if the J-Metal/Rock wormhole wasn't deep enough... I believe this Worldwide 21st Century rebirth of Metal, paying homage to the pioneers of the 70's. 80's and 90's, is AWESOME. One of the best parts is that most of these newer bands are actually BETTER Live than in the studio.
