This is absolutely BRILLIANT! Thank you for this tip. I don't like punching holes in my walls and I was thinking of getting the Ikea Skadis pegboard system. Subscribed!
I’m moving into a new apartment with a tiny bedroom that needs some more storage, and this pegboard seemed like a great solution, but we can’t drill or nail anything, so this video was a godsend! Thanks!
my husband hates drilling holes in our walls and when i saw your demonstration i tried it sticking it to a cupboard door. . so far so good . the command strips hold 5.4 kilos in weight. my husband was so happy the way it has worked out so thank you again for avoiding me asking my hubby to drill more holes.
Please be mindful of what the pegboard will hit when the strips pull apart (Command adhesive handles shear, downward weight only, not forward pulling/peeling weight).
I was gonna do this but am concerned it will fall off of the wall. How has it been so far? I plan to place my headphones and few other gadgets on it hanging. Will the 3M Tape really hold all that weight?
This came up on my recommended videos and I just came to flag that if you're using Command strips, please be careful with how much weight you're putting on your SKADIS pegboard. I put two of the smaller pegboards up on different walls with varying items and weights on them (definitely not the 7.2kg the strips say is the maximum) around 6 months ago using a similar method to this. Both have since fallen down. The first fell after about 2 months and actually had the lightest load, and the second went down this weekend. So they lasted a good amount of time, but they ultimately didn't hold for more than a few months, and the second one falling did cause quite a bit of damage to the things I had on the pegboard and the £250 printer which was beneath it! The sound of the second pegboard falling in the middle of the night was also absolutely terrifying!
Can you provide more details on which adhesive is coming loose? Is it the Velcro that holds them together or the adhesive that attaches them to the wall/bar?
I've had my pegboard on the floor for a month now because I didn't want to damage my condo wall but this is a great idea I ordered some of the 15 lbs strips so hopefully that holds it well enough.
Hi thank u very much I was just sorting my craft room and found your video so useful about hanging ikea boards it was so handy specially not drilling and using command strips just good idea welldone God bless you ❤
Thanks for the tip using the painters tape and level to mark the wall. I am very skeptical a loaded peg board will hold with just command strips especially in the horizontal orientation. Command strips are pretty expensive too so I’d like to know how this is holding up/performing for you since this video was made.
I did this with three different peg boards about 3 years ago when this video was uploaded, and mine are still holding up! Granted I try not to keep too much on there. A couple of controllers, a headset, and a few other little knick knacks that hang off little hooks and sit on a little tray.
Perfect help...I returned a peg board to Ikea the other day. I wasn't ready to do it yet. But I think this will help me get ready because I want to put one board up in my smaller kitchen to hang pans. Or rather skillets I guess I should say. And I think this will work very well. You do give a good clear explanations, good visuals and I appreciate you not bombarding me with stuff that I don't need to know. Thanks.
What a great idea. I was looking at these pegboards but don't have the resource to install it properly, so these velcro are super. I installed my pictures on the wall and it's great. No holes!!!
Thank you for this! This is awesome. I don’t have a drill and don’t like that option anyways. Your point about waiting for things to adhere is so clever!
Leonora Mattin Also, in the video I show 12 pound command strips. We haven’t had any problem with this one. When we did our second one we used 16 pound strips, just in case we wanted to put more weight on it.
That is exactly what I need for my bathroom. I would love to see/ read an update. Did the board last till date?Does it also apply to tiles in a humid bathroom?
I i figured out how many strips I needed, laid it out on the wall, pressed the match in firmly, gorilla glued the outward strips to the bar. Waited an hour and added the bar. So far so good.
It may or may not sit completely flush which may not be a big deal but wouldn't it be stronger if you hung command strip hooks vertically the way they are meant to be used and hook the bar onto the hooks?
@@mattmtong I think this will depend on the wall material you stick the 3M strips to and how heavy the things you are going to put on to it. I stuck one on a matte painted wall and a glossy painted wall. Base on guess, the one I stuck on the glossy wall was heavier. It fell just a few months later. The other one is still hanging there.
That's my biggest fear when doing this but I just put an entire whiteboard on my wall and it's up there pretty sturdy, I just used a roll of nano adhesive tape, maybe you should try this. I will and will keep you all updated
Isn’t it easier to just put the bar on the wall first , rather than putting it on the peg board, leveling it on the wall, then pulling the peg board off the wall, unscrewing the bar from the peg board and then putting the bar back on the wall, after you secure the command strips to the wall? Don’t get me wrong, I think you did a great 👍🏽 job. I was just curious to know if it’s easier to just secure the bar to the wall first.
I also noticed your initial application did not appear to be level. if you just mount the bar, you can use a handheld level to level it before you apply it to the wall. For spacing, you can attach it to the panel mark where the bars land on the wall then removes the bars from the panel.
One good feature of Command Strips, each one is rated the weight it will hold. This is extremely important when using to hold the weight of a pegboard along with hangers and items. Also The setups are designed to use vertically and not horizontally
Strongest type of adhesive and removable and allows you to straighten up without getting things perfect on the first go. hers can hold about 15 kilos no problem. at best she had about 5 on there.
I was going to utilize this approach, but didn't want to trust the contact of command strip on the mounting bar since it's not totally flush, so I command stripped plywood to the wall and screwed the pegboard into the plywood.
This board will fall down!!! Command strips need to be applied as per the pack instructions which is a maximum of four sets vertically (for shear strength) definately not sideways or as many sets as seen. Strips must be applied to flat surfaces for full adhesive contact board side and wall side to ensure strips will fully connect with each other. The maximum depth of the board can be no deeper/thicker than 2.4 inches/6cm to avoid forward pulling peeling weight which will cause disconnection of the strips from each other. I would not use Command Picture Hanging Strips for this pegboard.
Thank you so much for sharing! Love your clear instructions and useful tips. I’m joining your IKEA/Command strips/Cricut Club ;) This is exactly what I was looking for.
Great process/tutorial video!!👏🏼👏🏼I'm a big fan of Command Hooks, so I'm happy to see the strips work just as well should I find a need for them.🙋🏻😍💜💕 TFS
Watching this bc I want to get the MICKE add on unit for my desk and I also want to get this pegboard mounted over the whiteboard backing without damaging it with screws.
For anyone trying this, in my country you can order individual parts from ikea for free. I ordered an extra mounting bar to make the pegboard more secure.
I LOVE this tutorial! I have all of the supplies and I was wondering why I wouldn't start with attaching just the bar before putting the bar on the pegboard. I'm wondering because the pegboard is a little awkward to hold it up.
Please do not use sticky strips for hanging this at all, nail it to the wall as IKEA intended. Picture Hanging Strips will separate from each other and the board will fall as the board with items creates too much forward pulling/peeling weight which Command cannot cope with, ask 3M directly - the number is on the back of the pack and they will tell you NO - don't do it!
May I know the weight of the pegboard ... I just brought 40*60cm magnet white board and now just wondering how to hang them on walls without drilling ???does the command strips holds whiteboards as well ???
I've never hung a magnet board. I use the information on the Command strips as a guide for how much weight they can hold. I'm unsure of the weight of the pegboards, but you could look that up on the Ikea website. I had originally looked it up when I did the project.
I had to take the I e in this video down when my daughter left her college dorm room. I have these I. My craft room and all four are still up. I am careful about my weight on them. Also, super important to make sure you do the step where you take the board off the bar and push the bar directly onto the wall, pressing along every part of the bar. It works for me.
Ermm... As I read through the comments, some people say it might fall off since it is designed to stick vertically. I think stick left and right side vertically could be a good way too.
tried this earlier today and after a few hours, my pegboard unfortunately fell :(( wondering how I can make this work because I really can’t put holes in my wall
Did you leave it the amount of time directed on the packaging before putting it up on the wall? Also, did you press the bar directly against the wall? You have to take the pegboard back off the bar and then push directly on the bar to the wall. If you just push the pegboard against the wall, the bar doesn’t get enough direct pressure. Those are a couple of things that may be the problem. Others could be that the wall isn’t clean enough, too much weight on the board. But I mostly bet the bar wasn’t pushed directly to the wall. That’s an easy one to miss (and the problem I had when I hung my first one).
IF you use the command steps how much weight will it hold? I bought the 30x22 and thought it would come with two brackets so you had options as to how to hang. I wanted to hang it with second options and no bracket to do this. It is the longer bracket. How could I use you idea in my dilemma?
Is it holding up well? I'm considering doing it too because my apartment doesn't allow drilling holes, but I'm concerned about it falling over (I have a lot of glass ink jars that would be disastrous to clean up if it broke)
I did this because I was so excited to see it could be done without screws and I set it up exactly as you did but the damn command strip sticky side is not sticky at all! I took the paper off and it was just a little tacky but in no way would hold even the board bare. Help!
Is is the Command strip brand? I find that works better than other brands. Also, did you get the 16 pound strips, or even the 12 pound strips? It should be sticky. I would return them/exchange them.
I didn’t read their instructions to mean 16 pounds per strip. I read it to be 16 pounds when four strips were used. I made a guess that using double that might allow me to double it. I never weighed the items that I put on mine but I estimated around twenty pounds of items are on mine.
Hi Mari. We had to take this one down in March because my daughter's college ended short. So, it was up from August to March. I have 4 up in my craft room.
I cannot imagine this possibly working on MY wall :/ . Living in EU and the wall is from bricks, plaster and layers of paint. When i was testing attaching something with some of those tapes, the tapes did hold ... but the paint on the wall did not.
@@myinspirationcorner4499 This may be a stupid question but how did you take it down? I can't imagine you being able to reach the white tab that you have to pull for removal?
@@mandyli1049 Hi. You first remove the screw on the front of the board. This takes the beg board off of the bar. Once the peg board is off, you pull the bar off the wall (apart from the other side of the velcro). This is just pulling the two pieces of vecro apart. Once you take the bar off the wall, only the velcro remains on the wall. You can then pull the tabs. Hope that makes sense.

I cannot imagine this possibly working on MY wall :/ . Living in EU and the wall is from bricks, plaster and layers of paint. When i was testing attaching something with some of those tapes, the tapes did hold ... but the paint on the wall did not.
so after almost a year, how's your pegboard? still there?
We took the one down from my daughters dorm room in late March and it was still holding strong. The one is my craft room is still hanging strong too.
Great video, thank you!
