How I Landed on the Real Podium at BWR Kansas

- A lot of big racing happening this weekend between BWR Kansas, World Cup Waterloo and Little Sugar. It was a hard decision to make for me as I would have started the only U.S. World Cup in Waterloo, but I opted to commit to my future as a gravel pro and go to BWR Kansas and that decision was verified with a podium finish. The race is 123 miles and includes 2 pretty gnarly off-road sections. One about mid-way through and then the last 10 miles are all fast and flowy single track to the finish. Try riding single track on a gravel bike after racing 110 miles: you end up a little dizzy when it's all said and done.
This is a race analysis video that includes footage from in the race along with my strategy and thinking throughout the race. I hope you find it enjoyable and even helpful at times.

"I didn't come here to fake podium" - Uncle Drew spitting bars!
🤣
11:43 Absolute sinister descent by Roberge lol. Great ride, dude.
Fantastic! Podium, plus crowned King of Dirt! That's a way to keep that "Spirit of Gravel" in it's place. Legend has it, there's still folks who exhibit the "Spirit of Gravel", fist bumping each other at that very railroad crossing to this day.
🤣
Awesome riding! Just did my first gravel race last weekend -- this video is getting me pumped to do some more!
Awesome. Glad it’s helping!
Well done on the podium finish and being king of the single track !
just watched Goettl's footage.... the moment you said to him 1/2 to the end was impressive. I would have sent it with you if I was him. The negative racing in front group was insane.
👑King of the Dirt Drew Dillman has a nice ring to it. Amazing race footage! Thanks for this!
It does doesn’t it. Haha
Midwest Devo coach here ( met you at devo cross ). Keep pushing brother. You got this!
Wow, that looks like an awesome race. Love the course.
Congrats! Awesome video as always! 🥉👊🦿🎊🎉🍻
Thanks Drew for another great video and well done on your 3rd.
Appreciate it!
Congrats to podium place an KING OF DIRT! Man that's something. Interesting course also, such changing conditions and terrain. All those corners in the forest at end of race. Treacherous!
Yea. I liked it. Suited my skill set very well.
think it's safe to say the spirit of gravel is ebbing a little, especially in these more higher profile gravel races. the single tracks look so much fun to ride.
Bout time Dilly. Now you’ve got something to talk about on BB’s that wont put us to sleep😂
Big congrats. Missed u at Waterloo but this seemed like a great trade off.
Congrats!! Hopefully, you will make a trip to Gravel Worlds in Lincoln, NE next year!!
Great flow and grit of content! Subscribed.
Shweeet!
love the footage Dizzle
Cross skills paying off! I think you and Kerry have the best race footage music but your commentary and cartoon Dizzle puts you o top 🙂
Fitness looks good, Dylan better get ready!
Love it!
Looking on fire in this kit 🔥
That’s the point. Haha. Thanks!
Wow i am early to the party. Love a dillman upload!
And I love a turtle fiesta view!
Great job!
The last 2 minutes of the video in the soft quicksand looked tough to grind through. I think I would have chosen the left option and balance on the 2X4 "shortcut" rather than spinning in the sand.
Nice Drew. Always a weird feeling that far into a race and no one in sight ahead or behind……. its like “am I off course here somewhere?” Daxton was definitely not maximizing his aerodynamic game with his vest flapping open in the beginning 🤔
Yea I was glad I took mine off 30sec before the start!
Thanks for the virtual race. What tires? how wide? What pressure? King of the singletrack! Brutal to get that sand so late in the race!
Challenge Getaway XP 40’s at 32 PSI.
Grats man!
In a sea of jumbled jerseys yours sticks out Nioce!🔥🤘🔥
Sure does. Haha.
Awesome race and video, Dizzle! Just wondering, is supertucking allowed in these races?
Yea. I think it is. Not UCI or USAC sanctioned.
Nice race and I enjoy the podcast! Any chance you overlay the text on the race footage? I watch your vids on the trainer and the long commentary over a black screen is not great during intervals. Also, what about just using the GoPro audio or a bluetooth mic? I can't take the music so I have to mute the vids. Happy to see you turn to the dark side off gravel racing!
Thanks for the input but I’m gonna stick to this format. I’ve thought about all your suggestions before and still think this is better.
cool 😅
Podium, and even the overall win, for the Quad Crown is still possible after BWR Mexico.
Yep. Already done the analyzing. Haha
Dylan is in trouble if you can avoid punctures in Arkansas.
11:42 Superman?
I'm outing myself as a total outsider but: Who does the race announcing - his voice is EVERYWHERE in US races of all disciplines he must be on a plane every week.
Dave Towle. He’s a legend. Been doing it for decades.
🎉😮🎉🎉🎉🎉
Where is Dylan now hahaha
Super absolute solid no-questions-asked DQ at the train crossing. Probably should be an enforced suspension. That's gravel, though. Glad everybody is safe.
Beyond stupid riders.
SOOOOO much cool than Dylan's stuff...
:)
Not trying to be mean at all but I cut these videos off as soon as the over the top music comes on. This crowd really doesn’t need the music. We love the sound of crunching gravel. Watched one of your raw footage videos on the trainer and quite enjoyed it. But cannot sit through the music. That’s just my 2 cents. Congrats on the podium.
I ran it in slow motion going through the last section of woods. I was getting exhausted just watching. Well done!
How can you still chat while pushing hard in the woods 🤣
Heckling fellow CXers in the gravel race, true CXer! 😂
Exactly.
Impressive on how you hold your form for the duration of the event . As others soften , you appear to get stronger . Bravo Drew 🎉
Great video! Excellent camera and editing. No need to narrate the whole thing.
I love the chirping at Daxton 😂
Yea. I think he took it well. Haha.
All that sand in the last singletrack section looked like an absolute ball buster. Brutal
So much fun!
I laughed my ass off at @17:08 🤣👑
We need live voice over!!
Great footage.
Dude he helped you with your bike you could have at least waited for him to get on his bike and the group there could have left together. Geez man.
Different races. He was doing the amateur race.
These BitMojis 😭😭😭
They get the point across right? Haha.
There's gotta be a call up in Mexico!!! #podiumlife
Sure hope so. Haha.
Congrats! But did I hear that right? Only 400 starters? That must be a disaster for a BWR/ LTGP event .....
Congratulations on your result. Great video
Nice work D
Trevor! Thanks man.
WOW man great race...insane numbers!!!
Legit racing congrats.
Good stuff.
I’m so surprised you didn’t get a call up. You actually started further back than me. I was afraid someone was going to swing a port-a-potty door open as we passed by them at the start. Not the best planning. The train was gone by the time I reached the tracks. Not sure I would have been comfortable climbing through it. Great job out there!!
Thanks!
musics too much.
You could mute the music…
Ur a genius
adam would’ve sucked ur wheel then try to sprint around you. good call leaving him at the train 😎😆
Probably accurate.
What’s was with the start?
Lucky for Drew it was a “Neutral start” given his original starting position.
Yea. I started mid pack and had to get to the front.
@@DrewDillmanChannelI’d do the same thing myself. Very important to get into the lead group as soon as possible. Otherwise you’ll waste all your energy just trying to make your way through the group of slower less capable riders while the guys in the front distance themselves.
The best in-race videos on RUclips right now no cap
Thanks!
This video is the shizzle doggie Drizzle 💥 My mum said “fuggyeah brozie wozies” and dad called it “neato”.
