It feels surreal to see another 2D Metroid, 2D Metroidvanias have been almost indie-exclusive for so long that I still feel as if this game was a fan-game and not an actual new game from Nintendo, I'm eager to see more!
They're developing Dread with the same company that made Samus Returns for the 3DS not long ago. That game was a superb Metroid game, so Nintendo let them develop the next one
Metroid did not sell much, that is not a crazy reason not to keep making more but yeah we're finally getting a new one and it seems like it'll be a succes both in sales and quality.
@Travis Newsome Precisely. The 2D genre went almost extinct on home consoles in the PS2/Xbox/GC and PS3/360/Wii era. Developers thought that 2D genres would not sell minus a few faces like Mario and DK. Luckily, indies mightve actually saved the 2D platforming scene. They don't need to be priced at $60 for a profit neither (not saying this game isn't worth $60. It most definitely looks like it's worth a AAA title)
Once 2D was left behind for 3D, companies basically just moved on from it with no interest in going back. Now that its super popular on the indy scene to make OG style games I think we will see a lot more of this from game devs going forward. Its pretty exciting as a OG NES kid to see this kind of game being so well received in the era of the PS5 and crazy graphics.
I mean, he supposedly died in the first Metroid, but returned for Super Metroid. Well, I actually heard a theory that the Kraid of the first game and the one in Super Metroid weren't the same one, in Super they made a reference to the first Kraid on the way to the boss, but the theory says that maybe that first Kraid we faced in Metroid was actually just a young spring of Kraid.
@@danielmunoz1275 Kraid was supposed to appear in Metroid Prime, and it was going to be explained that, just like Ridley, he was rebuilt by the space pirates
Finished it last night. My GOD what an incredible game. How did these guys go from the underwhelming Samus returns to making what I think might be the BEST METROID GAME ever?! It's been 19 years since I was a high school kid sneaking play sessions with Fusion during class. I'm now 36 years old and blown away just as much as I was back then.
Samus Returns underwhelming? You on drugs? It was the testing ground for MercurySteam to prove themselves, and the only reason they were chosen to make Dread is because they passed with flying colors.
@@Vm37371 Well considering that he died on Planet Zebes, the same planet that Samus finally killed the original Ridley on and then caused to self-destruct, it is surprising to see him.
MercurySteam does a phenomenal job at characterizing Samus through gestures and with 0 dialogue whatsoever. I love the scene in Samus Returns where she reflixively charges up a beam ready to exterminate the Metroid hatchling, then lets the beam fizzle off after getting a look at it and realizing it's completely innocent and harmless.
I’d recommend checking it out. Super Metroid comes with Nintendo Online and you can find Fusion and Zero Mission pretty easily through _certain_ methods.
Considering how long it's been since the last proper Metroid game and the sheer amount of hype surrounding Dread, I honestly think it has a strong chance of being the best selling Metroid game.
The environments are amazing. Especially the raining outdoors that looked like kamino from star wars. And Kraid? Dude, now this truly feels like a mainline metroid.
There's a really good one right now on the 3DS. I think it's called Samus Returns. And since most Metroid fans have never played the GameBoy one... I'd say it's a pretty awesome game.

And at the end of Samus Returns, they included a Ridley boss fight that: -Wasn't in the original. -Is widely considered one of the best Ridley boss fights in the series. From a creative standpoint, it wouldn't make sense to bring him back in Dread. Parasite X Chozo fights, me guess at least... X showed intelligence before, i wouldn'T be surprised if the X parasite isn't as bad as people think it is.
There's apparently two classes of Chozo, a warrior and priests class. I think the Chozo we saw in the earlier trailers was a priest based on his garments, and likely benevolent. The warriors seem to be the bad guys, based on this one. We may not fight the SA-X or Dark Samus on Dread, but that warrior Chozo has got similar weapons and technology Samus herself possesses.

I mean, couldn’t you say that exact same thing about some of the Switch’s best games? And I’m not even talking about the ones also on Wii U. Super Mario Odyssey could have been on the Wii U.
I think it looks like a significant step up from Samus Returns. Whereas Samus Returns could feel like it was playing catch-up with the decades of Metroidvanias since Zero Mission, this seems like it’s fully embracing those ideas to make something that feels modern. Such as the wall crawling and dashing and ability to aim 360 degrees while running. It’s not limited by the controls of the 3DS.

Kraid is trying to break free and attack Samus, but she's so confident in her ability to either parry/dodge or the strength of the chains that's holding him, so she just casually stands there, looking him dead in the face while charging her charge shot, not even lifting her arm. It’s crazy that Nintendo hasn’t made a 2D Metroid game like this in 19 years. Everything in this game is just impressive. Definitely picking this up
They're developing Dread with the same company that made Samus Returns for the 3DS not long ago.
AM2R is available for that 2D fix.

You mean that... kinda... 3DS-y feel? Yeah.... this game could've been released on 3DS. Lower-res, sure, and frame rate. But the rest could've been exactly the same. It's a real shame they've waited so long to release a Wii U game with 60fps.
@@ulengrau6357 nope, i'm pretty sure he doesn't mean that. Also the switch is still a portable, so consider that
Also no, it couldn't be om the 3ds??? And if that's your logic then every game could have been. Mario odissey? "Just make it lower res for the 3ds"
0:40 I love how much character is in this shot right here. Kraid is trying to break free and attack Samus, but she's so confident in her ability to either parry/dodge or the strength of the chains that's holding him, so she just casually stands there, looking him dead in the face while charging her charge shot, not even lifting her arm. Samus is one of the most badass characters Nintendo has ever made.
This game is truly a masterpiece. 10 out of 10.
hello, im thinking in getting this one, but i dont know if i need to know a lot of lore before playing it, what i need to know?
@@ADRIANSKA97 this was my first metroid game aswell and i still had alot of fun its one of my favourite nintendo games and because of this i actually want to try the old metroid games
@@ADRIANSKA97 There's not a lot to know about the lore, but I'd recommend that you play at least metroid zero mission, super metroid and metroid fusion to fully appreciate this one. You'll get familiar with the series and know what it's all about, also seeing how much it's grown over the years.
Metroid Prime is an almost completely different series in terms of the lore and gameplay, so you don't really have to have played any Prime games to increase your enjoyment with this one.
Kraid’s in this? Can’t wait for that to be explained
Evil Chozo and probably someone from the Kraid species.
Ayo kraid
maybe the X parasites are back and it's one of those. Anyway I hope we'll get a new KRaids lair remix. I love that song and the zero mission and Smash versions were awesome, so I would't mind another one especially from a new metroid game :)
And you can bet thet Ridley too
Kraid isn't really a singular entity, and had numerous offspring and/or clones. My guess is one of the little "Fake Kraids" from Super matured and turned into the current one.
If Ridley Is In This Game,He Will Probably Sing "Old Friends,Together Again" With Kraid Lol
Why Do You Write Like This Though?
@@BreathlessGust I Don't Know,i'm Brazilian and i always forget it Doesn't work like that in english lol
I kinda want him to come back
Perhaps that would be exaggerated, considering how many times he already came back but I would love to have him as a late-game boss fight, perhaps second or third last
@@tiburondrogado7612 I'm Brazilian as well and it doesn't work like that in literally any language.
@@jacquesnouvel6436 I Want him to come back too,But they gotta give a reasonable explanation first
This is like the culmination of every awesome thing the entire Metroid series offered, packed into a gorgeously designed 60fps world. I am sooooo excited for this game!
Couldn't have said it better.
@@Dc-pm2hi i turned on max render distance and i still cant find who asked
edit:well now that he deleted his comment, this comment is useless lol, whatever, it was great while it lasted
@@Dc-pm2hi It think a good art style can last forever, especially when combined with great gameplay.
@@Dc-pm2hi yeah you know that almost nobody in the metroid fanbase really care about the graphics? The game may run on outdated hardware, but that's not what the Metroid fans are looking for. Just because it's not amazingly looking doesn't make it less great.
@@Dc-pm2hi As soon as someone says they're super excited, there's always gotta be that one guy who goes "Well, ACTUALLY..." to bring the mood down. Thank you for being that guy, your service will not be forgotten.
I didn’t think I could be more hyped for this game than I already was, but man, did this trailer prove me wrong.
If I had a time machine and it only had one use, I’d solely use it so that I could travel to October 8th and finally play this game.
Such a bad use of a time machine
@@BryantWhite lol
@@BryantWhite you are right. They should time travel to when Metroid Dread DLC comes out
I was sitting here, alone at my desk just smiling at the screen as I watched this. This is looking more like what Metroid fans have wanted for the last 19 years.
Rest In Peace to all the Metroid fans that have passed away, you fellas would’ve loved this...
Whatchoo talking about!? We still here! METROID!
@@CarlosXPhone it's been 19 years... A lot of Metroid fans would've passed in that time
@@CarlosXPhone He's probably referring to the fans who played the first game(1986) and some of the other titles.
Wow. That’s dark.
@@dewismith3059 he definitely is. My grandfather passed in 2008. Loved metroid to death.
This looks great!
Ridley: I've come back a dozen times!
Kraid: I've come back twice!
Phantoon: I came back once!
Draygon: you guys got to come back?
how do we know draygon isnt in that water area?
*sad Crocomire noises*
Crocomire: You guys are interesting?
Wait, when did the Phantoon come back? I thought it was only in Super Metroid.
Spore Spawn: *cries in spores*
This is one of the best Nintendo trailers ever. Full stop
this trailer looks so sick. as a new speedrunner of fusion, this trailer just makes things even better!
Speedrunning fusion, eh? You have more patience than I
SPEED. BOOSTER. YES.
I've been a Metroid fan since 1987 when I played the first game as an eight year old kid. The series has a very special place in my heart and I can hardly wait to see Samus in action again. :)
Thank you, Nintendo!
This is hype. Out of all the games you guys have shown off, this one caught me the most off gaurd but made me the most excited.
Over 1 million views in a week.
Metroid is coming back stronger than ever guys.
damn, this is going to be one delicious adventure. buy this game, people.
One problem, do I buy the steam deck or wait for the switch pro first?
Can I play it without playing the other metroid games?
@@kori7795 Yes. The most important thing about any Metroid game is it's gameplay. But if you want to get context of what is happening you should play Fusion.
I am buying. But this music... I hope its in the final game.
Looks cool but I don't like metroidvanias so I probably won't get it
This is absolutely huge within game universe, the first time we actually meet a live Chozo in the flesh and it’s an enemy. I am so pumped for this game
Are we sure its not a separate Chozo from the one in the earlier trailer?
@@Austroid it is
Yo they brought in the seeker missiles and double jump from the Prime Trilogy, an air dash move and *the freaking Speed Booster is back!?* Oh this game is looking great
they are actually storm missles but still
@@metachop7444 different name same function, prime did it first anyways
@@DARKSOULPRIMEX Actually they have slightly different functions, Storm Missiles fire a storm of missiles, which uses 3 missiles per targeted object. Prime 2 only shot 1 at whatever you were targeting, which made them functionally useless except for bosses like Chykka that were right after you got them.
My Metroid Prime 2 loving self saw the Seeker Missile and got very happy
A Chozo leader in a power suit? Finally, a worth opponent for Samus, their battle is gonna be legendary!
