If ya need to monitor your BP, then ya need to bring your own BP device with you!
It's not like a BP cuff takes up much room, why not bring it?? Some people!
I agree completely
As a nurse, I get frustrated when people think our services are or should be free. Yes, the vast majority of us are good people who want to help others. However, we all went to school and sacrificed a lot of time, money, and sanity to be able to do the job. To be a nurse on a cruise ship is actually even more demanding because you don’t get to leave the facility at the end of a shift and you never know the severity of the situation when a patient presents to the medical unit on the ship. Even though this person was asking for a fairly simple task, there’s a whole process that goes into documenting his results and if the results of his reading aren’t good they have to do something about it. So yeah, healthcare isn’t a cheap or simple thing.
@@christinagipperich2780 I’m a retired nurse with 30 years of nursing behind me. I agree with most of what you said. But this couple knew his BP needed to be checked on a regular basis so I think they were irresponsible by not bringing their equipment. And I agree they should have been charged for the service on board. I bet they won’t forget again!
They probably could have bought one at their first port of call for about $100
Can’t believe that people are so messed up in thinking that cruise lines will provide everything they need without a cost . . The cruise contract tells you exactly what is provided on your cruise and the rest is extra .
#1. NOTHING IS FREE
#2. BRING what YOU need!! smh
I think John Healds answer was perfect. Of course you’re getting charged. When was the last time you went to any doctor or nurse in the US and you or your insurance didn’t get billed?
You can go to a fire station and get your BP checked for free.
By a paramedic (or similar). Quite different from having it checked 'regularly' by a doctor or nurse. If a doctor or nurse checks your BP they now have a certain amount of liability and have protocols they need to follow.
@hollypotter6989 NOT free - Your taxes are paying for it. However, having it checked by EMS at a fire station on a regular basis is NOT appropriate! Also, if they are out on a call, you might be out of luck.
Question for the high blood pressure passenger: What was your plan of action if your reading came out too high while on the ship? Were you given special medication to take in that scenario? Were you going to request addition medical services from the (limited) ship's infirmary? Were you going to disembark and seek medical facilities in a port?
Also ask, "Did you purchase travel insurance?"
Also, small blood pressure cuffs are easy to toss in your bag.
Stay safe! Thinking of you from Canada. My carry on bag looks like a medicine cabinet for the amount of necessary and might be needed medical items I travel with. Even over the counter medicines cost a lot more on a cruise ship than on land and I have been on cruises where the ship ran out of stock on certain items. Of course it will cost you to go to a medical clinic on board. Rather silly to not realize that, first time cruiser or not.
Hey, hi! My pills have their own personal item sized bag for the same reasons you explain. I have and sadly need a pill for every contingency and because my meds are for a rare condition are very hard to source. I would NEVER expect a cruise ship medical team to provide anything I need from meds to assistive or medical devices. I would only anticipate visiting the doc on the ship if it was truly an emergency and would expect to be charged accordingly.
What the woman complaining didn't know was her fault,
why didn't they ask if the checking was free!
They also could’ve followed their charges on the app and seen it after the first visit.
This is what I don't understand. Even as first time cruisers didn't they go into their app...for _anything_ ? Like, dinner reservations, excursions, shows...?
Party like it's 1999 shout out Ludacris
Thank he forgot to give credit.
😄😄😄
You beat me to it! 😂😂
Right!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂
ahh yes the old Ludacris classic
She could of brought her own blood pressure machine instead of going and getting it check. Why didn't she ask first what they charge. Never assumed it free
I don't know about that. I cut myself quite deeply on a Viking cruise and medical looked at it, bandaged it and sent me off with helmet full of band aids. No charge...
On the ship? Maybe they were concerned about liability?
Isn't Viking one of those luxury cruises where everything is included??
I cut my leg on the Horizon and guest services made me go to medical and actually escorted me there to make sure I did not need stitches. Didn’t need stitches and the gave me a bunch of bandages and sent me on my way. No charge at all.
Yikes!
I forgot my clothes at home. Will the cruise line let me go to the ship store and get a pile of clothes so I can wear them? Just like leaving a blood pressure machine at home.
Hi Tony. Threatening a bomb is a federal offense. Image every nook and cranny being searched including your cabin. Singing Tony is on fire!! Al was definitely different. You go to medical, expect to get charged. No matter what it is... Every cruise line does this, not unique to Carnival. Please stay safe, you never know what direction that hurricane will take. Prayers for everyone it's path. As always thank you for all you do. You, Jenny and the family be safe ❤️
Advise the charge up front!!!
#Notificationsquad Stay safe Tony and JennyB
Thank you 😊Jenny
Not interested in any Prince show. I don't understand how one thinks medical services are free on a ship. These are probably the same people who cannot fathom why cell phones won't work in the middle of the ocean. Stay safe Tony & family.
Sade “Is it a Crime” 1st cassett. Still love her.
Prince songs: I Would Die 4 You”. “International Lover” won’t make it, but “Little Red Corvette” is actually inappropriate also….if you know, you know!😂
I was ill on Oceania Riviera in July and was treated over two days. Bill was $7000. Thankfully insurance paid out when I got home to Spain. Took a month but we got it back!
My first Cassettes were actually 8-tracks because that was what my family had in our stereo unit. They were Journey - Escape, REO Speedwagon - Hi Infidelity and Rush - Moving Pictures. I bought them all through Mail order in 1981, I was 12 or 13 years old.
Ouch. I try to forget 8-tracks as the audio specs were awful, there were track changes, and there was no reverse. A bleak time in consumer audio history.
If the man has to have his blood pressure checked on a regular basis, then he should have made sure that he had his own blood pressure machine. I use hearing aids that have to be recharged and I make sure that my charger is in a bag that I carry myself on the cruise so I know that I have my charger for my hearing aids. 😎😎😎
Y’all be safe over there, Tony, Jenny & Family!!🙏✝️🙏
Weird Al?! Tony, I'm pretty sure you're mistaken...
That cassette tape was obviously Ludacris!
I'd love to hear Darling Nikki. ❤️
My fav!
Yes!
Had a Murphy's Law trip where there a family member went to medical and needed to be kept overnight for observation. They warned me before we even got there, warned me as I was filling out paperwork for her and gave an estimate, and checked again when they recommended she stay overnight for observation and gave another estimate. They even reminded us that they would do what they could to help us file with insurance, but they needed payment before we left the ship. I cant imagine Carnival being much different.
As an aside: Get trip insurance!
It's not really a hidden charge. You see a medical professional you pay
Was the passenger using the medical services British? I could see why they wouldn't think to question the cost as they are so used to just receving medical care without bill. Anyone else - it's just bizarre that you would think it would be free 😅
Could have been Canadian as well 🤷♀️
Continue prayers for Florida and stay safe.
I have no issue with guests being charged for medical services. My question would be, were they advised BEFORE receiving care what charges would apply, and yes this could be a posted placard/printed list of services and fees that was displayed in the medical center? If not then the cruise line is in the wrong. If so and the guests chose to ignore the posted list of charges, or verbal disclosure from staff (and then lie to try and get out of them) then no sympathy whatsoever. Without being on the ship at the time service was rendered none of us will ever know the exact truth.
I'm sure they let them know, I went for a bandage & some Neosporin and was advised how much it was before they scanned my sail card.
If
NCL posts the charges, I know because my husband fell on the Gem. We knew about all the charges beforehand. $3000 worth of charges. Thank goodness we had travel insurance
@@JeanCarlos-lz4vd how much did it cost?
@Bright_Broccoli $4, not bad actually. I just can't see them just scanning a sail card & not saying it'll be this amount ahead of time. And more so, why, if it's that important, didn't they bring their own??
Weird Al Yankovic. He’s coming to Phoenix next summer shout out to Luda love all Prince songs.
As soon as you make medical/health care free on cruise ships ppl will take advantage of it…..it’ll be shut down in no time
I'd go on a cruise for free health care😂
It should be low cost or free (for minor things) for people who purchase the cruise line insurance.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Yes, especially with all of us "nearly deads" that love to cruise
Why did I expect you to start singing Ludacris????😂
So did I! 😂
I am in Woodstock, Ga just north of Atlanta and we have had a ton of rain. We are supposed to get the worst tonight after dark and into the early morning hours on Friday. Tony, stay safe in Spring Hill. I have an uncle in Palm Harbor and I hope he stays safe too.
He should have brought the BP CUFF WITH HIM
The #1 (for your faaaace) cruise channel on earth!
Hey hey hey LocaFam ❤
I fell on Antgem of the seas and got x rays and a temporary cast put by the onboard physician. I was NOT CHARGED for the service because the injury happened onboard. Preexisting conditions are going to be charged.
The first time I heard "Eat It" from Weird Al, I was just like what is this??? and laughed and laughed!!!
I like White and Nerdy
Praying for you and your family’s safety (and the good people of Florida) during the storm.🙏🙏🙏
Not a first cassette but my college roommate had an 8-track and a couple of tapes. I can still hear 4 dead in CLUNK Ohio. Anyone over 65 knows what the CLUNK means.
I do feel sorry for the minor blood checks if they did not warn them. It would almost be a courtesy thing.
Wife says Purple Rain. I say some Weird Al.
They should have advised what the charge was before they took the BP.
Y’all stay safe🩵 praying for everybody impacted🙏
When Doves Cry, Let's Go Crazy, I Would Die For You (And Wierd Al, of course)
Another great show!
Hard to believe that someone would not realize that they would be charged for that but obviously the medical centre needs to make it more apparent!
Stay safe Tony, Jenny and family!
Best wishes for you and everyone on Florida's West Coast.
I saw puddles pitty party open for Primus a few months ago. What an awesome opener for Weird Al, I truly hope you can go!
Yep, that's silly. Unless it's the cruise line's fault, you will be charged for medical services. Travel insurance is key.
My mom blistered her feet on the very hot pool deck on one cruise and had to be taken to Medical. She was provided with a wheelchair for the remainder of the cruise and she was not charged for their services, but that's an exception to the rule.
Having caught Covid on a recent cruise, they're gonna charge you A LOT to see a doc. Make sure you have travel insurance people.
Regarding South Africa, I would seriously be advising you to go! It was amazing. Beyond the safari opportunities (depending on where you are) to enable you to encounter things you cannot see anywhere else, there are beautiful places to see. We visited for 4 days in Cape Town, 4 days in Durban and one in Port Elizabeth. Every place was unique and beautiful and interesting. It should be on everyone’s bucket list. I think one of the most beautiful days I have had was our trip from Cape Town to the Cape of Good Hope. The scenery was stunning the entire day. Good food too. I would go back there for sure. So so so much to see in South Africa. GO!
If there had been a blood pressure machine that does it at the press of a button, I'd think it was free. Otherwise, I'd ask. But why didn'y he just bring his cuff himself?
If you fall on a cruise ship and its very very choppy there will be no chg in our experience on the Navigator of the Seas. X-ray, and wrist brace for strain and no charge.
Always take my BP machine with me. It’s not hidden, what do you think going down to medical is free? No they are not unfair. If you are on land and go to a facility …YES u will be charged..🙂🚢
Yes I have been to South Africa 2023. It was wonderful!!! NCL Jade
Reference the blood pressure checks charge. How much did the Medical Center charge? Was it a huge amount? Did the husband have a standing appointment?
Medical Center should have told her that a bill would be posted to her account.
Senior Centers pay people to do medical checks, or they have volunteers who do it. Those who go to senior centers may not have to pay for checks, but the city, county, church, or foundation is paying for it. In other words, taxes and donations pay the bill.
Cruise ships are not charities.
Moral of the story: bring your own equipment. Some smart watches can do blood pressures.
O my gosh, Loving your singing and rocking out today. Happy you are able to do your show this am. Why didn’t they bring their own BP monitor? 🤔
Keeping Y’all in prayers. Thanks Tony. ❤
I think they should pay 💸. Medical services are as needed, or necessary. Regardless, carnival has to pay it’s medical staff.
I worked at a health club/gym that was sponsored by a medical center. The gym was attached to the same building that houses a lab, mammogram office, doctors offices, CAT scan and X-rays and an emergency room as well. We never asked the doctors to come care for our gym members nor did they ask us to go give exercise prescriptions to their patients. No freebies either way.
I also forgot to pack test strips for my meter to check my glucose readings on a trip. I went to medical and asked if I could buy some from them. They didn’t carry the kind I needed but was offered a meter and strips I could rent while onboard. I would not have asked for free. As we were a day away from St Thomas, I waited until we got there and found the pharmacy in the dock area where I purchased what I needed. I thought the medical was more than generous in their offer. It was my error I’d not packed enough.
Fun Fact: Tim Walz is younger than Weird Al Yankovic! 🌈 The More You Know!
In regard to the medical charges, nothing there is hidden if you read your cruise contract. Our society has become one of you have to tell me (whaaaaawhaaaaawhaaaa) instead of taking responsibility for reading what the cruise lines give you. I don’t think there are “hidden charges” as everything is out there about what is covered and what is not. I imagine if people were as interested in knowing those as they are in their coverages for drink packages people would quit complaining about dumb stuff like being charged for a non covered service. Why he didn’t take his own with him is the thing his wife should be complaining about. It’s not that hard to pack a BP monitor.
Grown enough to decide you want to cruise. Grown enough to do research to book the cruise that you think would be best for you. Grown enough to pay for said Cruz. Grown enough to get yourself to the port and get on the cruise ship. Not grown enough to know what is free and what's not on said cruise ship. SMH no sympathy.
Be safe Tony. Good luck
They should have brought their own device. The cruise ship's medical facility is not your primary care physician's office; they are not there to conduct routine medical care/checks. So the charge is fair. That said, I do think they should have been told that there would be a charge, and what it would be.
Obviously, they have to charge. If they didn't charge anything at all, how much would they be inundated with unnecessary trivial issues? Where else can you routinely go and not get charged, except at one of those automated machines that are in some grocery stores or pharmacies? I am not sure what the charge is, but it shouldn't be some extravagant amount. How much were these people charged per visit?
I can't believe anyone who lives in the United States would expect to get free medical care anywhere. It's just not rational to expect that.
If it requires a staff member to assist you, like a blood pressure reading then yeah you should be charged. If it was one of those machines like at the grocery store then no...bottom line you should never assume there isn't a charge.
To charge for blood pressure check depends on the cruise line. There were times when I wasn't charged. But, if they charge, they told me ahead of time.
Then she should’ve gotten insurance for her cruise, or she could’ve went to the local Walgreens and picked up the equipment. She didn’t go to the local Walgreens or CVS to get a blood pressure cuff. This woman needs to get a grip and read the fine print.
Only place for sure to check one’s BP for free is a machine at the drug store. Sometimes ones doctors office will for established patients. I know in the ER I cannot- you have to sign in as a patient and go through the triage process- which isn’t free either.
If this couple were to go to an urgent care or other medical place while on vacation, they would be charged. If they need to monitor BP, bring your own cuff. Be safe Tony and all.
WHY didn't he bring his own monitor if he knew he needed to check it? Of course you get charged for medical services on a cruise ship.
The one time I went to Carnival medical, I was told UP FRONT that there was a charge.
I’m of the belief that there should be a sign on the door at medical with a price list. That way there are no questions.
They should have been responsible enough to not forget their machine and should checking their accounts daily. Also, the rule is if they ask for your room number or your room key, you most likely will be charged. They need to take some of that blame as cruiselines are money makers, not caregivers.
don't cha pay at your doctor's office???? maybe they can hit up their insurance for reimbursement.
Needed medical attention for a fractured foot. Carnival Magic informed me up front what the charges would be for care and that it would be billed to onboard account. They were very clear about it.
Need to hear Razzburry Barnett. (shoutout M. Buble)
Medical staff has to get paid. Equipment facilities and space on the ship. I think it is fair to charge.
no but here's what i know, if it was Carnival the passenger signed something every time they went in there.
A charge isn’t hidden if it’s in the contract. You go to the doctor, you pay. That is all.
you are using a service and you should be charged. or bring your own blood pressure monitor.
Stay safe Tony! We're hunkered down in Tampa.
Think 1st cassette was of course a mix tape... lol... 1st LP Iron Madien... number of the beast
He should be permanently banned for the hoax email.
IF they go to the dr back home without insurance what happens?……..
What was his blood pressure after he got the bill? Hilarious
53 days till my first cruise to Ensenada
That was my first cruise back in 1985! Have fun!
Keep your head in a swivel while in ensenada...
Listen to Mr. Frump and the Iron Lung!!! Greetings from Land O Lakes off of SR52, just down Shady Hills Road from you.... We're hunkered down on our houses, but we're not in any evacuation zone... hoping it will stay this way... and we all come through another hurricane unscathed.. be safe out there and have a good food run!
I was in high school during Purple Rain ☔️ so I was very excited to see a Prince related cruise. We have to: 🎶
Party like its 1999,🥳
Kiss, 👄
Little Red Corvette.🏎
Be safe…. In ATL area. Also hunkering down.
Hope you are all OK, Tony!
😂😂 Gotta love that Sony Walkman 😂😂
Everyone knows they charge for medical!
I can remember my first 45 record I bought. Candy Man by Sammy Davis, Jr. It cost $0.49. My 2nd was Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple. I’ve been a rocker ever since.
I'm in South Africa. You would like cruising here. Lots of interesting things to see and do.
Of course they should pay for that. If they went to their family doctor they would also have to pay for it.
Rasberry Beret
BP checker lady: why didn't you bring your monitor? Now-a-days, as a senior (and a retired nurse, LOL), I take a thermometer, pulse oxymeter, my glucose monitor, sphygmomanometer (blood presser checker), Kardia Mobile, Ankle braces (I am prone to sprains) and ace wraps, and any bandages my husband might need for his foot wound proclivity.
It cracks me up how much equipment one needs to be an older person! (I am one)
Y’all stay safe.
Let's do a "Weird" group excursion to Vegas!
Praying for you all.
I think Carnival is correct to charge. Imagine having many passengers needing a small service. It’s impactful of medical time.
My first cassette was Weird Al Yankovics “Dare To Be Stupid”!
“Yoda”, “Girls Just Want To Have Lunch”, “Like a Surgeon”…EVERY tune was a Banger! He is Amazing Live!
Hey Tony! I’d would love to hear Purple Rain and Let’s Go Crazy! My first cassette tape was Journey Escape! ❤️❤️
