  • I wanted to pay tribute to this wonderfully and immaculately composed Testament song from an album that blew my mind back in 1994 "Low".
It features John Tempesta on drums, who also played in two other great albums I adore: White Zombie's "Astro-Creep: 2000" and Helmet's "Size Matters".
Drums never sounded as good as in the 90's metal albums, big and real!

Very well played in a rather minimalistic kit compared to what these bands usually put on stage. What are you using to capture your kit sound? Can't see any mics.

Thanks for watching and your comment. I know what you mean, back in the day (even today) drummers used more stuff than they really need, maybe just to impress, but the more things you have the more expensive your drumkit is, and heavier when you have to move it, plus it wastes more space...so I prefer to keep it minimal. For the sound I use a Zoom recorder as a room mic, it's placed in front of the drumkit, you can see the tripod in the top camera view.

Agree, and also makes you improve also by having to resolve parts with what you have at hand. It only makes more sense to me having special cymbals that can actually add color to the sound or when not having that cymbal makes the song too thin in terms of orchestration. Thanks and keep posting !@@chusmaestro

My favorite Testament album. Tempesta did good. I also agree on the sound of the 90's, the last decade and peak of analog production/mixing.

Mine too! "Demonic" and "The Gathering" are both good albums with great drummers, but I prefer the songs from "Low". Andy Sneap and Colin Richardson did a good job understanding how must sound a drumkit, I miss so much those 90's productions...
