I love your dogs man. They are so aware of your emotional state at all times. Even if it's just a sad movie instead of real life circumstance, they stop to check in with you. You're a lucky guy.
Another fantastic Clint Eastwood film, and one that broke hearts. Won Hilary Swank a Best Actress Oscar, and Morgan Freeman his long overdue only Oscar win. Clint Eastwood is nothing short of a legend, especially if you hear his incredible survival story back in his enlisted days.
One of the hardest movies i've ever seen. One of the more beautiful. Franky seemed pretty much dead when we first met him. Running on routines and regrets. She breathed life into him. Helped him to care again. To love. Enough that he was willing to face damnation to take away her pain. This movie lives in some very deep chambers of the heart. It's one of the best films i've ever seen.
"It wasn't fault. I was wrong to say that." "You damn right. I found you a fighter. You made her the best fighter she could be." "I killed her." "Don't say that. Maggie walked through that door with nothing buts guts. No chance in the world of being what she needed to be. It was because of you that she was fighting the championship of the world. You did that. People die everyday, Frankie - mopping floors, washing dishes and you know what their last thought is? I never got my shot. Because of you Maggie got her shot. If she dies today you know what her last thought would be? I think I did all right." Fun Fact: Boxing and kickboxing champion Lucia Rijker, who also played the part of Billie "The Blue Bear" in this movie, was Hilary Swank's boxing coach. Basic Training Fact: Hilary Swank underwent a serious training schedule to prepare for this movie. She gained nearly twenty pounds of muscle due to the workouts. Music Enthusiast Fact: The song played on the bagpipes at the beginning of the final fight is The Rising Of The Moon (1866) and is an Irish rally song about the underdog Irish Army as they rebelled against the British in 1798. Authentic Battle Damage Fact: Hilary Swank contracted a bacterial infection from a blister she developed on her foot during training for her role. The infection was so serious that she almost had to be hospitalized for three weeks. Catching the infection in the nick of time, she instead chose to take a week off for medicated rest and didn't tell Clint Eastwood or the other producers of this movie about the injury, because she didn't believe it was in character.
This film had me in tears for most of it. It just speaks to so many people who strive for something greater for themselves despite their circumstances but also how cruel life is...hits you like a bag of bricks
It said she’s from Theodosia, Missouri. I actually grew up near Theodosia, Missouri. I, too, felt like trash. Parent’s credit so bad they started using us kids’ social security numbers cuz they couldn’t even have a light bill in their name. Electricity always shut off. Surrounded by a lot of other people living the same way. Trailers with moldy carpet and uneven floors, with the neighbor cookin meth. Just sad. Some of these small towns, man. They’re just full of tragic tales and people who almost never had a prayer from the very beginning. And that shit just becomes generational. I’m not just talking about folks living paycheck to paycheck or having struggles. That’s normal. I’m talking about parents who are a mess and take it out on their kids. Be good to your kids, folks. They’re gonna remember every time they had to suffer because of your bad choices. Just sayin.
Margo Martindale (her mom) is one of the greatest character actors around. She was on Justified for a season and was Emmy nominated. She may have won. I don’t remember. Her IMDB page is packed with great performances.
This is such an excellent movie. Clint Eastwood is epic and so is Morgan. Hilary Swank also killed it in this movie. The level of sadness in this movie is off the charts.
The wide crazy eyes during "oooh boy I can't say nothin nice bout this bitch." I bet if JL wasn't wearing those headphones we woulda seen the steam comin' out of his ears. 😅
This is probably my most favorite Clint Eastwood movie. Million Dollar Baby and We Are Marshall are the first film's I ever remember really getting to me. 😞
Such a fantastic movie. The writing, the acting, the directing, the camera work... everything. You know any movie that engages you so much that its hard to watch, has done its job well. Great reaction as usual.
This is one of those movies that I watched expecting to get nothing out of it and it ended up giving me everything from it. Absolutely love this movie and breaks my heart everytime.
That face you pull at 39:36 was such pure hatred i love it. I remember feeling the exact same way when I saw this movie for the first time. Kudos to the actress because she plays the part so well it elicits actual hate
I don't have to say this was another banger (in more ways than one) of a reaction, but the "she is hittin' them girls with that slave master hand" line took me OUT 💀
@JL Yup your humanity is lovely to see. It is why the community you are the FACE of is so wonderful here. Never be afraid to show your emotions Sir it is why many of us fell in love with the channel. THANK YOU to the EOM staff and your amazing patrons.
This is my first time watching this film and reacting to it as well, and all I can say is 😢. Every perspective of this film except the boxing brought up the level of toxic environment that I grew up in my family. My brother passed away 3 years ago and he was a Navy Veteran. He endured similar circumstances and the hospital scenes were extremely difficult to watch. My father is just like the mother, greedy and abusive. Sadly there are some people you can and cannot trust even in your family. Thank you so much again for your genuine reaction 🫶🏼
Three thoughts: •There is a very big difference between living and existing. •Every child deserves a parent, but not every parent deserves a child. •Covid would have been much easier for all of us if only Morgan had been narrating it. Stay safe & love big💖
Man, I knew what was coming and prepared myself for it but damn you, you got me tearing up! Lol when Drogo came to check on you I totally lost it! I could hear him saying “It’s okay dad, don’t cry.” What a sweet boy!
To be honest with you I was so furious with this movie when I first saw it because it seemed deliberately designed to break my heart and it felt sadistic, but having experienced some devastating personal tragedies since then I've come to realize the very intimate truth the story tells. And as far as the film itself goes, Hilary Swank gives an Oscar winning performance and I've adored her ever since her Oscar winning performance in my friend Kimberly Peirce's film BOYS DON'T CRY.
I've watched it a few times, it's a great film. I've said it before, but I just love your dogs. They try to be there for you the best way they know how. Pure devotion.
Yep, this is definitely a "one time only" kind of movie. Watching this edited version with JL is the ONLY other time I've watched it. Hilary did such an amazing job and deserved every award she won for this part. The other major award-winning movie of hers is, Boys Don't Cry. I think my favorite movies of hers is, Freedom Writers, based on a true story.
I enjoyed your reaction to this movie. My mom passed away 10 days ago. She was a huge Clint Eastwood fan. Her favorite movie of his is Mystic River. It is a powerful movie and the best work Sean Penn, Tim Robbins and Kevin Bacon have ever done. I cried watching this with you and I thank you for that. I haven’t cried since my mom died. Your sweet and human reaction to this movie is exactly what I needed so thank you. I had a very long and good cry and I feel like a weight has been lifted from me. I apologize for going on for so long. I just wanted you to understand that your humanity and humor helps a lot of us out here. Now, please do a horror movie or a comedy next! Lol I recommend The Gentlemen. It has a stacked cast and is full of action and comedy. Thank you!

It will make you wanna slap the taste out of a recommendation, but it’s a beautiful movie that everyone needs to see. Your FAM loves you, bro.
I have watched about 50 Clint Eastwood movies and I can tell you this is my favorite/best one. This film won the Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor (Freeman), Actress (Swank), Director (Eastwood) and picture of 2004.
Omg. I almost forgot what an incredible movie this is and how insane it was watching it for the first time. Love your reactions and those sweet pup pups looking over your emotional well being
DAMN dog! I'm SO envious of your boxing gloves sir. It's Sugar Ray, all day!!! Also, thanx for doing this movie. It's a hardass film, but so well made, and so powerful.
This movie always chokes me up, but I held it together until you said, "Your family just walked out the room." I'll never watch this the same way again.

I mean, the story is taken from a book already written. It’s not -that- amazing of Eastwood.
