  • This video shows you what your Hyundai / Kia 1.6L GDI Engine Intake Valves look like at 175,000 miles. I demonstrate cleaning techniques as well as install a throttle body from a 1.8L / 2.0L Hyundai / Kia Engine. This video was serviced with GDI Intake Cleaner Spray around every 30,000 miles. This engine example has not had a catch can installed. Stay tuned for more videos on the way!

    just so everyone coming in late knows, the coolant lines running to the throttle body aren't there to actually cool the throttle body, they're meant to heat it up and prevent frosting in sub freezing temps. if you don't live somewhere that cold, just bypass it, it'll actually run better because it won't be heating your intake air up defeating the whole purpose of the intercooler.

    The cover isnt cosmetic. It stops most of the heat from the engine from Effecting the paint on your hood. Without it you will have bubbling and cracking and peeling of paint

    Did the throttle body upgrade but also just cut my snorkle short on the factory intake hose and put a 4" flat specter cone on it and vented the hood with a scoop. Fun stuff!

    We've got one with 90,000 miles gonna do this in the Spring once the weather warms up a bit. Saw another vid where a guy used brake cleaner & 10 zip-ties taped together (shape of a drill bit) attached to a drill as a nonmarring tool to remove the bigger chunks (and that alone got the valves really clean, not shiny clean like walnut blasting will). Only wish you would have shown step by step of intake removal (doesn't look hard but for 1st time wrenchers it would help). Also good to see that engine went 175,000 with no problems, hope to get 250,000+ from ours. thanks for posting, peace.

    A catch can won't completely stop it but it'll reduced it in half or more. The type of oil you run in the motor makes a big difference too they do have gf6 now which is supposed to reduce it even more of the built up.

    I am the 60mm Guy, in 2013 I was the first to put the Elantra 60mm on the Veloster. I posted it in Veloster.org. I also did the coolant bypass. I still have the 2013 and the 60mm. There are 2 types of 60mm, long and short air horn. I use the short. Also with a NAV GAP the plugs at .030. Any question ask me. In cool weather put the coolant back on.

      It’s a service you have to specially ask for. Valve blasting or valve cleaning. Usually a few hundred dollars being a shop has to remove the intake. Definitely worth it though. I’d recommend at 60, 120, and 180

  • @stanza77

    Thank you for the vid! Have you considered closing the valve and then pouring something in there that is good at dissolving carbon and then sucking it out with a shop vac? Then picking at the remains?

      Yes, this video was a long time ago. I’ve found some chemical solutions that work pretty well. Unfortunately the valve is never “clean” unless it scrubbed.

    Also catch can is for turbo cars and performance engines. Seeing you never did a carbon cleaning i can bet your pcv valve is sludged up causing sludge to build in ur engine and excessive blow by and will cause oil leaks from excessive pressure. You wana build power on that engine. You would need a longtube header with high flow cat and 2in to 2 and a quarter inch exhaust with high flow muffler. Add a short ram intake with heat shield and tune. This car is an economy car wrong car to try and add power too the turbo veloster on the other hand is a diff story. Your best bet would be to increase its efficency which clearly it hasnt been serviced properly by that carbon build up which is what will hurt ur power and acceleration as well as fuel mileage. If you serviced it that would provide better gain then that throttle body. If you have some pepboys or cheap ebay filter on it then its flowing barely more then stock. Put an aem on it atleast youl see a little gain maybe a couple hp

      Awesome feedback! The PCV was replaced by me upon purchase at 41k miles, I replaced it again at 90k and again at 120k when I did my plugs and coils. The car is actually moved on to another owner but I appreciate the insight! I also own a very modified Talon w/ 4G63 and 08 G35s so I understand where your coming from! Hope to see you around the channel more often!

  • @davidsteadyjr8243
    @davidsteadyjr8243 4 года назад +2

    So you know carbon cleaning is due every 15k right? Im a Hyundai master tech and have never had to clean the jntake valves manually. Your problem is your trying to make a 1.6 na engine faster your not guna gain a thing from larger throttle body lol and a throttle body spacer wont do a damn thing on a direct injection engine. Having no cat and your guna add an exhaust woth larger piping good luck losing torque and all low end power from no back pressure. You need to reset adaptives and do a relearn procedure after replacing the throttle body with the wrong one lmao. If you did the cleaning every 15k you wouldnt need to do any of that. Your supposed compensation issue is from not reseting adaptives and relearn procedure. Your not gaining any flow through the head by installing larger throttle body but no change in porting or manifold and no tune to possibly add a little power.

      It actually has extremely impressive factory HP numbers for a 1.6L NA engine. Hyundai caught a bad rep in their early days, mostly because they were just restylized Mitsubishi's, but since the late 2000s they really stepped up their game, fast and steady improvement since the 90s has brought some reliable and nimble value cars.
