Yes I'd like that too! I'm having trouble with clipping on my audio, so looking for a better mic. I've heard that mics with one, or three black rings on the connector won't work, only 2. Noticed on all the Rode lav mics I've found online, the connectors have 3. Don't want to fork out the extra cash, for it not to work.
@@Shimmoda Nice find. For the GoPro 7 (and 5 and 6?) you still need the pesky £46 GoPro microphone adapter box. I tried using my Apple 3.5mm to USB-C adapter but that does't work. It seemed to work, but upon closer inspection it doesn't. :(
It might be that youtube is also bottlenecking this but the main thing here is the Bitrate. Whenever you watch gopro footage form youtube its always the same problem. The static image looks good, but fast moving image that requires high bandwidth looks like TRASH.
Joseph - My Life In Metro Manila Even if you have recorded in lower quality, upscale and upload in 4k. This stops YT compressing the feck out of your footage. Is time consuming and not everybody has kit that will handle 4k but that’s how it’s (mostly) done.

thanks for the review! as I see... Hero7 is a hero 6 with +3contrast, -1Sharpen. I'm sorry but i will stick to my hero 4 silver with a simple jack adapter.
what is the setup for an external microphone? Audio Eingang > Standartd Micro > Standard Mic+ > Powered Mic > Powered Mic+> AUX-Eingang Audio > Nur Wind > Nur Stereo > Auto Audio Protune > AUS > Niedrig > Mittel > Hoch
Well thought out group of tests....may I ask where you had the Wenpod gimbal mounted? It looked as if it was mounted on the gas tank? I am curious how it would be if it were mounted on a chest mount? Also, I didn't think any of the "LUT" files looked good.
Unfortunately the Wenpod X1 Gimbal you are using, is no longer produced. Any other ideas or suggestions? I tried to google something similar but.. Thank you - KUDOS for this perfect YT channel.
Would be interesting to fix cams directly on the bike (what i have been hoping as i have read the title) to check the image stabilisation. But... what was a sense of "motorcycle check"? There is no more info as in other regular non-note reviews...
I thought I might learn something and I did. I am glad you sorted through the differences because to me it was differences without a distinction for the occasional vlogger.
what causes the camera focus point to not stay fixed? is it the hypersmooth? Like you'll lean into a turn and it takes a second or 2 for camera to focus to be centered again, like a bad gryo affect? have same issue with my buddies gopro7. whole point of it on a motorcycle is to see the lean not have camera take it away lol
How do you not get vibration with them attached to the tank? I have tried many things but still the image is ruined by the vibrations? I have an inline 4 1000cc.
Hi Mike, I've been using SJCAM SJ6 Legend action camera for moto vlogging. Though the camera is ok, I'm unable to setup the Mic(SjCAM Default)inside my helmet against wind blast. I've tried with many things such as putting cotton, duct tape on the mic but am unable to fix it. I didn't try the dead cat cap though. Do you think a GoPro can solve this wind blast problem? Please advise.
Hello! i have the hero 4 silver and a nd filter. How can I have a speed effect and not have to constantly adjust the gopro myself? it would be for everyday use Set the speed of opturation to 1/60 for 30 fps and put a limit iso? I have a medium quality nd filter that is adjustable. Thank you!
The biggest disadvantage is the audio adapter you have to use to connect an external microphone. This adapter already has half the size of the Hero 7. For mounting on a motorcycle helmet a No Go. Then it becomes just a Yi 4K+. Too bad. The Hypersmooth function sounded interesting.
i wanted to use the same settings for gopro hero 7 black. when setting to shutter speed to 1/120, I cannot change EV at all. could u share the settings in detail of your gopro hero 7 black? i upgraded from gopro hero 4 and the mic is so much better. i am ok with the small wind noise at 150kmh.
Thank you very much I prefer using session because of size, I’m not making youtube vids I use only for security. If they make again session series I’ll think
Thanks for the great review. I ultimately went with the Sony FDR X3000 due to its optical stabilization (better than digital) and generally better optics and processing. I use it with the underwater case for full waterproofing. Helmet mounting has been my bane along with audio. The mount issue is that my normal (non-track) helmet is a Schuberth C4 modular. If you want a side mount, you must choose between behind the flip-up divider line and in front. When you choose behind, you need to extend the camera far to the side of the helmet so that its front is not within the (wide-angle) view. It looks bad and produces side aerodynamic drag. When in front, the camera weight knocks the chin section down when flipped up. This also makes mic hookup more difficult. I ended up with a top mount. The only problem here is that the view angle is too high and you get none of the bike console. Also, the drag gets bad when going fast (over 120mph). I have a wired mic into the helmet (just above/back of right cheekbone) for motovlogging but have an unacceptable level of wind noise as speeds climb. I use a Sony mic with wind-foam on, but am looking for a better solution. I notice here that you only record exterior bike sounds and not your own (real-time) voice. Do you ever set up for the latter? I'm looking for a better audio solution. BTW, the C4 has built-in mic/speakers and Bluetooth, but it's not feasible to make these work with the action cam.
I have a Hero 4 Silver mounted to the nose of my C 14 using those same roads. Vibration ruins it. I am using Linear FOV, 1080, 60 FPS with a $20 Sony stereo microphone clipped behind the fairing, which works great. What shutter speed should I use? I would appreciate any suggestions For settings. Thank you for the video.
Fantastic video...I love how you listed all the components you were using. If you watch my on board footage, I use a 3 axis gimbal with a Hero 4+ Black and I have a HUGE problem with stabilization. It can't be corrected in post either (I've tried everything). It looks like the 6 vs 7 there really isn't that big of a difference, but I think you failed to mention the biggest thing about the 7...that it can stabilize 4k60 video, which makes it worth getting I thing. I may have to pick up that mic btw. Great video thanks for making it!
Again, such great content! I would be interested to see what difference it makes in a helmet mount POV environment. How is the hero 7 performing at night time riding in major cities? Have you ever tried using your main camera (GH 5 or whatever) on a chest mount in such a low-light situation? I've never seen low light motorcycle content which comes close to how one experiences it by themselves.
I just upgraded to the Hero 7 Black and waiting for the mike adapter to arrive in a week to 10 days. Exactly how do you place your mike to grab the exhaust sounds without all the wind noise? Loved the shots and you gave me some good ideas. Thanks!
I think gimbal + no (or weaker) ND might be worth trying. To me it looks like the longer shutter times are causing motion blur due to the vibrations which the digital stabilization can't compensate for. And by the way, where do you place the lav?
You are apparently using an 1-axis gimbal which will do absolutely nothing to smooth out the vibrations, you only get balanced horizontal axis as seen in the video. A proper 3-axis (wearable) gimbal might actually help but then again wind drag at higher speeds can be a huge problem. For the best results optical stabilisation is much superior over EIS and simpler way to go and there’s only Sony FDR-X3000 on the action camera market for that. However it has its own issues such as overboosted microphone input rendering it practically useless with lavalier microphones.
I agree the hero 7 is a improvement over the 6. But for the sake of price, i went with the 6. I brought a 6 with 400$ worth of extras for the price of a 7.
Great video Mikael. I understand you're shooting in 2.7k for comparison reasons, but have you played around with the 4K 60 a bit? I've noticed it's much easier to color grade and retains the colors a lot more. Keep up the great videos
I made the jump from 3+ to 7.. WOW is all I can say! check out the difference Here is with Hypersmooth: ruclips.net/video/kmanwfw8_hc/видео.html Here is without (Hero 3+): ruclips.net/video/GSXCEvop_sA/видео.html
Dan don't feel bad! I still use my Hero 3+ Black all the time! It still looks ok. Just think of it as the camera you put in danger. If it breaks then oh well!
The constant popping and clicking while using the external mic pretty much ruins that footage. Some have said it's specific to certain lavaliers, others that it has something to do with stereo versus mono, and others that its' the clip or lack thereof that supports the mic. Whatever it is, it's super annoying. IMO, the LUTs you used did not improve the footage in any way. Just looks washed out and yellow. Using the gimbal with its micro-vibrations plus the ND16 filter to force the lower shutter speed makes it impossible for the EIS to give you smooth footage without motion blur showing off all the micro vibrations. Something has to go. Either reduce the ND, or find a way to mount the gimbal so that it doesn't feel and amplify the vibrations, or just ditch the gimbal all together.
You should've showed all the videos with the same resolution. You put a crappy resolution on a not as advanced camera and as the other two but kept them at the same frame rate that's not a good comparison lol I get the frame rate does not go up to 60 fps on the hero 5 with a higher resolution but youre going to get better picture quality on the hero 5 than what you showed, you'll just have a lower fps. Would be nice to see the all the same fps.
I also use the external mic adapter with the Hero 7 Black on my dirtbike. I have a Hero 6 also as a selfie cam to offer different views. I find the Hypersmooth makes a big improvement over the Hero 6. My first effort with the Hero 7/6 combo: ruclips.net/video/j5Z7oj8WbWM/видео.html

just took my Hero 7 to The Tail of the Dragon, the time warp I recorded came out amazingly smooth. great camera!

Purple panda on amazon is good you need to make sure your audio jack has stereo not just mono

Brian AFAIK, the only device that works for the GoPro Hero 7 is the official GoPro dongle. Just bend over and bite a stick or something...

ruclips.net/video/aeuuSl2cahU/видео.html
At 2.7k RUclips gives you more bitrate to work with. So an alternative to PC's that have trouble with 4k, 2.7 can give an acceptable alternative.
This is why I don't like 60 fps on youtube, the bitrate is too low and it ends up being a blurry, blocky mess. :/

Nice road in Milpitas, I go on the same road once a couple of weeks just to relax myself. See you around ! :D

great comparison btw i think gopro7 way better than 6 and 5
Thank you very much!
Brake fluid reservoir leaking?
Is this the Hero 7 silver or not ??
What FOV do you recommend
as I can see there's still no better solution for the bike's vibration than a chest or helmet mount :(
my gp hero 5 footage looks like your gp 7 footage. im shocked when you show a hero 5 footage it looks like a hero 3
Thanks for the information
We all know hero 4 is still the king
RidingwithSam yeah I still use it and it’s the only one I use the mics, batteries, SENA backpack all together which the new ones can’t do
sierra road??

That's Sierra rd and Felter rd just north of Alum Rock area of San Jose. Fun road, some single lane parts, nice scenic lookout park at the "peak".
Scott Evens Thanks, I'll have to check it out next time i'm out to visit family.
I’m still waiting on one product that the previous version is actually better than the new one :)

ehhh i did that jump and the chip alone produces a much better image...
I'd have said that the color on the 7 there was oversaturated garbage.
Good content
Can any of these record in Ultrawide 3440x1440?
Give me a bullet shaped cam to slap on the side of my helmet,, with similar quality and I'd be way happier....
Hero 7 ist the Best !!

Ok bang
Yes. Hero7 timewarp is amazing on motorcycle! Check out my video
