    Nice to see Okehampton with new track, it must be like a magic carpet compared to what it was like before. Hopefully the Okehampton -> Tavistock -> Plymouth route will be reopened soon.

      Yes. I travelled on it in the 1960s ( Plymouth Okehampton Exeter) . But I do think 'National Rail' has a cheek. They closed this line for about 50 years....as part of the Beeching ( really corrupt Marples) cuts. I'm pleased it is re-opened and at least houses haven't been built over it.

    Nice. I liked the music and the trees. Somewhat surreal.

    Another good film, but one observation. The first part of the journey (before Crediton) seemed slightly out of focus at speed? Hopefully the Cambrian and Cumbrian Coast lines to follow soon?

    An Oketonian exile, a dream come true. When I was a boy, it was double track main line to Plymout. The restoration isn't finished. Why waste money on the coastal route via Dawlish.

    Very good video but rather sad to remember the old double track LSWR route. It looked as if there were places on the line between Crediton and Okehampton to put passing loops in at some stage in the future if needed without realigning the whole track. as the track obviously chooses a line across the original two track formation. I am a little surprised that Crediton has yellow lines along the platforms for high speed trains, is this the sign of things to come? John

    Beautiful video! Can you do one for the tamar valley line? There doesn't seem to be a cab ride video for that.

      I so agree. All their ( National Rail) films are ruined by the 'music'. I just mute the sound and try to imagine the sound of the train.

    Some serious lineside vegetation control needs to be undertaken in places, that apart it's nice to see this line opened up again to regular traffic.

    12:44 What is that station and will it reopen?

    • @robertwhittaker5477
      @robertwhittaker5477 2 года назад

      l think the station at '12:44' is Bow. It would be wonderful to see it open again, but it's a long way from the village that it was intended to serve. There are two stations before Bow after the train leaves Okehampton: the first, which I think is North Tawton, still seems to have a fully viable [and very well maintained!] platform even including a new[ish] asphalte surface and white marker line at the edge. Between North Tawton and Bow is a station which I believe was Sampford Courtney, which seems to have preserved its station buildings but lost all its lineside structure. Shortly after the line from Barnstaple appears on the left at what is called Coleford Junction the train passes through the long-abandoned Platform 2 at Yeoford, where the junction between the two lines (at least in terms of passenger transfer) actually occurred!

    Why is it just a single track?

    • @Bigbro28

      Obviously insufficient passengers on a minor line to justify having a double track layout.

    Lovely scenery, but I fail to understand the need to put a soundtrack on a railway video. I would have preferred to hear the sound of the engine, wheels on the track, and sounds in the cab, instead of that banal layer of sound that droned on continuously. I watched most of this with the mute on.

    Great to see any old railway route being reopened but I'd question the decision process for this particular reopening. I can't see that it has much to do with economics or social necessity for that matter. Surely more suitable candidates for reopening would be the route to Minehead or the Pontyclun to Beddau. route

    Guys name the station you’re passing through otherwise it has no context. Unless you live locally no one is going to know where you are, it makes the video informative. This is basic stuff - video making 101.
