My Bullworker X5 is one of the best things I've ever bought. I've used it regularly for over 32 years now.

The X5 is brilliant. I had mine as a kid in the early 80's (i'm 51 now). Eventually i got into weights, and the bullworker got put aside until my father decided he was going to use it, which he did for the next few decades. Sadly he passed away last year, and also my mother only a month ago. While sorting their house, i spotted the old bullworker and brought it home. I had to stop lifting weights a year ago as i'm waiting for a double hip replacement and can barely walk at the moment and i'm in constant pain. But i've just had a go with this now nearly 40 year old X5, just some simple exercises while sat on a chair plus some very gently done partial deadlifts - and i love it! I think even if it were only used as a rehab tool for someone in my position, a warm up device if lifting weights, or as a main exercise, it's brilliant. And like i said, it's been in use regularly during those 40 years, and there's no signs of wear on the thing that i can see.

The old X5s and Bull workers in general were really made to last. I also had one in the early 80s which got mislaid somewhere. But my brother in law still has his which he got around 1983. It's still fairly rust free and in working order. My son can't understand my fascination with BW. But they were almost like a man's fashion accessory in the late 1970-80s. We didn't have mobile phones or the internet for distraction, nor were there many gyms about.

I exercise in the garage. Kettlebells, clubbells, R bands and suspension trainer. All the while my Bullworker X5 (black), which I purchased decades ago,
would be staring at me from the corner I placed it in. I thought since it was from the beginning of my fitness life, it somehow had less value
than the equipment I was using now so I ignored it. Then, one of your videos popped up on my YT feed and next session I picked it up. Well, it felt a little
gritty on the compression so I broke it down , pulled a rag through the tube a few times, sprayed the springs with some white lithium grease and re assembled it.
It now runs smooth as silk and I'll be using this worthwhile tool once again thanks to you . And I agree with you, the X5 is the most versatile. 👍💪

GREAT BULLWORKER VIDEOS!!!!!! I have the Bullworker 3 brown handle from the 70's, the X5, and the Classic with 5 changeable springs and they are all great. Yes, the X5 is more versatile due to the increased range, the straps and the handle/lip part. The X5 strap webbing can be difficult to hold onto due to sweating and the thinness when using more force. Cost being a factor, get the cheapest. The real key....just use one consistently! By the way, they can't update the X5 as the original makers (Gert Kolbell) son runs Bullworker in Germany and has exclusive rights to that item. The US BW owners (Hughes) only can use the BW Classic design (so far as I know). New X5's were available for about $100.00 US, plus cost of courier to send as I do not believe they ship to the states, but seems like they no longer produce (probably due to COVID supply chain failure). These items do not lose their strength if taken care of, so used ones really are as good as new.

It's not weird to collect Bullworkers! I've got thirty (including nine imitations). And I totally agree that the X5 is the best design. I reckon the current owners decided against the X5 design because they figured they could make more money from their own newly patented classic and short bow versions.

Bullworker are making a 60th anniversary edition. Looks like they took your advice. I have the x5 the classic and the steel bow. I think there are many advantages to each. I love the x5 and the nylon ribbon straps for the traditional isometric isotonic program. The advantage with the classic is being able to use lighter resistance for greater range of movement higher reps and longer holds.

    Had to jump in here.
I have the classic Bullworker which I prefer for the improved grip of the plastic cable. I had the X5 in the past, but found that the fabric cables tended to bite into the flesh of my hand. Also, over time, I figured that they would rot out from the salt of my sweat.
Instead I bought a used classic Bullworker and modified it.
    i. I added a PVC handle to one side for an improved grip. Cables of any type flex with the tension, making it uncomfortable to hold. A handle overcomes that.
ii. I added the hammer grip by using several loops of 1/4 rope around one end of the shaft and then taping it up with hockey tape to hold it in place. My mod is superior to the X5 because you have an individual grip for all four fingers, allowing you to grip the shaft even more tightly.
iii. Finally, I tied a five foot length of webbing to one strap to allow for greater range and an increased number of exercises. The webbing has knots at fixed intervals. I'll put the webbing under my foot, using the knots to keep it from slipping out from under. I can do exercises such as bicep curls, overhead presses, lateral shoulder lifts, etc using the traditional form that you would use with barbells and dumbbells.
Hopefully, this will inspire some of your viewers to try their own mods.

I must admit I am intrigued by the x5 ... have you tried the latest range? I have a steel bow (the red and silver version) and the latest full size (carbon grey) ... they are both great but there is a noticeable difference in the quality of the springs - the distribution of power required to work the spring inwards is VERY slick and uniform in the latest model, the slightly older version is a little bit "lumpy" ... build quality is fantastic in both however and I would heartily recommend either. Regarding the hammer curl hand placements - yes I see your point and id be interested to try the x5 for that reason alone however these types of hand placements are not uncomfortable on the newer versions and in my opinion have the bonus of dramatically increasing hand/grip strength and forearm development. Great video by the way - please keep making them :)

I've just bought one off ebay and might have a bit of a mistake. It's called a Powerworker... clearly a copy of some description. I've had branded Bullworkers before, and i'm aware of the tension they carry. This thing I've found myself in possession of is way too stiff - and I've been at the gym for 30+ years. No way I can compress it at arms length to do a chest press, and no more than a millimetre or two close up against the chest.
And it seems to be a sealed unit, you can't get in to replace the spring.
I'm a bit out of shape, but a fairly strong 17(ish) stone, and I'm going to end up hurting myself trying to find a way to use this on my chest. I can't get to the gym at the moment so I've got a couple of bits to use at home, dumbells and a tricep bar, and this thing was supposed to do my chest.... very limited space, you see.
    Any suggestions? Cheers.

Dude, PLEASE STOP posting your silly comments on every video about the X5 being 'dated'. Get a life! It's not possible for it to be dated. It works on simple principles that are relevant no matter what the year is. The newer versions of the Bullworker don't improve on the X5, they're just about money making. End of discussion.

@@cmoneytheman X5 is so much better than the new models. If I had wasted all that money on the classic when I could have bought the much better X5 for way less, I'd be a little upset too.

I've found the little book rather inconvenient - don't lose it though as I've seen 2nd hand copies for sale on ebay for about £50! The wallchart is much better and more convenient though. You can order a wallchart for the X5 direct from the Bullworker website for about a tenner, including postage,

Agreed the X5 is probably the best version of the Bullworker simply because of its versatility the newer ones are gimmicky with their extra springs. I know the Bullworker manuals recommend 7 second contractions from their literature however after investigating this topic with a Sports science professor at Southampton University he recommends performing a singular timed static contraction from 30s to one minute per exercise. If the contractions are performed in good form for this time under load there is no need to buy these new Bullworker versions. Standard curls are all that is necessary for bicep development and most of what you will obtain for this muscle group will be achieved using Chest Compression and Cable Spread.

It is more versatile than the newer models . If you want to buy a new model then fill your boots. The new ones have removable springs however I would say it's a marketing ploy as the older models work well for me and I use both free weights and the Bullworker X5. I am pretty strong and I cannot completely compress or expand my Bullworker fully so it's not worth investing in a new one I think it's a waste of money

Why don't you buy a new one and waste your money I'll stick with what works for me and no I don't agree with the new ones being made better the old ones are solid they have stood the test of time some are 50 years old and work as they did from new

Not the whole universe. I don't think it's that popular in Alpha Centauri.
