- Follow along with me on my FIRST day of American public school...
I don't have a fancy morning routine or anything like that but I do enjoy drinking coffee and riding my bike to school. This year will be my junior year (11th grade) of high school at Chapel Hill High school. It's going to be a busy busy year but before everything gets even crazier I was able to film a video of our first day. I hope you enjoy seeing this perspective into an American high school.

So, essentially my channel is "blowing up" as I write this post. It's all very exciting and I'm so glad to have a ton of new people here! The timing is perfect because my first day of French public school video is where everyone is coming from so what better video to post than my first day of American public school! I hope you all enjoy it and a big welcome to those who are new around here!

As a European, I find it so odd how friendly and happy everyone is on camera. It shows how open Americans generally are and how filming is somewhat normalised even in schools that kids will want to be in the video and introduce themselves, etc. which is something I’ve never really experienced in life, let alone at school. Especially when compared to the videos in a french school, you really can see the contrast.

I live in Russia, and f.e. in my school there is no 45-minutes lunch, just we don’t eat. (I’m in the 5th grade). Your school is more better than us, and I’d wanna go to America to see on the any attractions, learn in school and etc. Very love America!❤️

This made me miss high school! I went to a different high school in North Carolina, but this vid reminded me a lot of the fun times we had, as there were a lot of similiarities. Our school building was a bit bigger and nicer, but I am not from a super wealthy area. Just regular small town America. The happiness and friendliness I can definitely relate to, as well as the cool teachers. Excluding a few bad ones, most of our teachers felt like they really cared about us and wanted to see us succeed while also letting us experience some freedoms and fun times. I remember crying for hours when I graduated highschool because it was over. I didn't know it wasn't like that everywhere.
For those of you who are confused:
I was living in France for 7 months with my family, then I moved back over the summer, and now I’m living in America and going to school here again. Most of you probably just saw me in living in France so this is probably a bit confusing so I understand haha
Max Reisinger When you moved with your family to France, was it mainly for you and your sister to study abroad or was it because of your parent’s job/ family etc. ?

Dutchie here! First of all, I have huge respect for how comfortable you are in social situations on your first day. Also I LOVE your editing and creativity!
Dutch high schools (you're there between 12-18yrs old) are a bit similar in terms of vibe, although your school seems 'happier' like other Europeans described as well. There's 2 breaks during the day of both half an hour. Roughly 6-8 periods a day. School restaurants are not a thing. Pretty much the whole school eats sandwiches their mommy made for them 😃. Interestingly: sports and other stuff you do for yourself (or with a club) which are NOT connected to the school (there's PE class though) meaning that you go home at like 3pm and that's it.

Max Reisinger in California the schools are more outdoor and the hallways are outside the kids also dress a lil more different
Max Reisinger In you’re school you definitely have way more freedom with what you can do. At my school we have security everywhere and we have to have an I.d. (Identification cards like you had in France) to even enter our school. I live near a major city so that may be why. But other than that i just found you’re channel and I love you’re videos already:)))
Also the schools are smaller and there’s not really big buildings except for the gym and cafeteria. The schools are two stories, it’s more like classrooms scattered around ig.

Feels magical the first day at school. A brand new world surfaces. You become the scientific who must discover the new land. All you need is your compass and the drive for exploration.
That's an interesting way to look at it. Though I think a lot of kids are 'scared' the first few days of high school.

I used to live in chapel hill and I was kinda poor and it made me feel really bad oof. I got made fun of a lot in middle school there for not being cool or having cool things
ya ik i feel like in america the “public school system” doesn’t mean anything because depending on the economic status of the people living their it can be wildly different. Im super privileged and lucky to go to a school with an entire room of mac books and like 4 flat screen tvs with projectors in every classroom, because everyone in our town pays wicked high school taxes and has kids in the schools, but I know it can be so so different and it is kind of silly calling it the same thing when it isn’t.

I think lunch time is relative, because it depends a lot of what time you leave school. I used to have 2/3 hours lunch but only when my schedule was like 8am - 6pm. When my schedule was 8am - 3pm I had 1 hour of lunch.

American schools are more advanced in technology and more modern compared to european schools tho. I watch people from north america be exchange student to france or spain cause i want to hear how teens speak it cause i always hear adults speak french or spanish and not teens, and it's weird for me to hear teens speaking those languages
