  • so I said in the KIRKSTEAD GUEST HOUSE in Blackpool about two weeks ago. I reviewed my room for my youtube channel, the hotel hunter uk.
    the most popular part of my video was how dirty the mattress was..
    so after two weeks, the KIRKSTEAD GUEST HOUSE owners messaged asking to talk about my youtube video on their GUEST HOUSE.
    in this short video, I talk about the messages between us both...

    mattress protectors should be on every mattress then the problems with dirty ones wouldn't arise as much

      We use mattress encasements which are zipped so they stop everything from getting to the mattress. With 19 beds and mattresses costing around £500 each it's a no brainer to protect my investment.

      bed bugs are a huge problem if theres an infestation. i stayed in a hostel once it was hell to deal with.

    I admire the owner for contacting you, i hope he sticks to his word and does what he says. Well done for exposing the faults in his B&B and as a regular to Blackpool i would consider going to the B&B only after you have been back though 😂

    I agree with the majority of the comments, kudos to the owner who has seen your review of his establishment and has taken on board that changes needed to be done! clearly the owner takes pride in his business, and deep down you started making these videos to expose these places, its only courteous that you return to do an update if a business makes improvements because of your video!

    Nice little video I think it's nice they got back to you I think sometimes people just are dirty I mean other people staying in the hotel no respect my partner works in a hotel in Manchester and she says sometimes people are dirty the rooms like people pooing and weeing on the beds taking TV remote and cups the list goes on and going to Blackpool in 5 weeks I going to book the hotel for 3 nights I just love the you tube TV I love your videos and your pink rubber gloves look like kim Woodburn from how clean is your house lol at least you a toilet roll in the last one keep up the good work lots of love xs

    I say fair play to the guy for caring enough to reach out and take on board what you said about the place. It's fantastic that he's now making improvements. I had never looked at it from that angle before but your videos not only expose the bad side of these places to us, they could be highlighting them to the owners (like in this case) and letting them know where they need to improve. I think the owner 100% deserves a follow up review and the chance to redeem themselves. Plus I think it would make great content! 😊

    It will be interesting to see what the hotel owner has done in response to your video. It would be great to see if he has changed all of the mattresses in the hotel. Just wondering how he got rid of the old ones as the councils are charging a small fortune to take them away now . Good luck with whatever you decide. Thanks for sharing your video with us all.     Firstly, hats off to the guy for getting in touch and making the changes. I think if you have been invited back, you should go for it. As previously mentioned in other comments, you video will remain on RUclips. Doing a follow up will put the place in a good light

    I would go back because the guy has gone to the effort to contact you and wanted to know what other changes could be made. He obviously cares about his place. I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to go back.Loving these videos and i've just recently subscribed.

    I think its a excellent thing that there willing to do changes like that and improve on the business taking customer feedback, I can definitely see the prediciment your in. Perhaps you could go back there at a time when its convenient for you of course and try and get a different room not the same room or wait a period of time like several months to see if the cleanlyness is kept up with.

    I think this is a good follow up video. It gives potential guests good information on the outcome of your stay/video. No return necessary, unless like a year + down the line. There are soooo many other places to possibly try and feature on your channel.

      I agree think owner do video of all rooms in his B&B show us improvements made with the rooms.
      Don’t think Dan needs go back if he goes back guarantee given nice clean room because owner knows what he looks like.
      Beauty of Dan,s videos film them as he finds them what makes videos interesting to watch.

    Hes corrected the problems much respect to him. I used to live in Blackpool iv been holding off going to my second home due to who the hotels house now for money. After an experience a friend had its off putting. And total vile what happened to her 12 year old daughter.

    The owner might employ someone to clean the rooms. They may have seen the mattress but thought it would be OK with with new sheets on. Most people don't check for things like that. You made the owner aware of this.

      Go. It's not major issues.
      Silicone sealant is a problem in most bathrooms.
      Compact spaces - what do you expect for the money?
      Old buildings can be a nightmare to modernise without spending a lot..
      If it was mine, I'd redo the silicone. Plastic panel the shower and possibly the whole shower room. Put a cheap loo roll in each room.
      Simply instruct customers to leave. the shower door open after each use It can help dry up moisture. Just as we do when using a washing machine. Leaving the door open helps it air out.
      Put mattress protectors on!

    Hi my love I think you should dò a follow up I saw the one you did and I agree he has obviously took on board what you said and cares enough to do something about it I have been going to Blackpool fir 40 years and have had a couple of bad ones in that time. I know iv been very lucky I think the least iv paid has been 30 and the room was defo worth that I will look out in case you do go back thank-you fir the follow up info and yes I agree about the TV iv had rooms where you could not even get a picture lol

    This is a POSITIVE example of the good your videos can do. Some owners are real 'absentee' people who don't know how their investment is being managed. I'd say: go back and show us what the property is like NOW and what the rates are now.

    Create a channel poll to find your answer.
    If you go back it should be unannounced within 3 months or go back and view it & briefly interview the owner.
    This way you can show you care about the industry and things being done right over just getting the "worst" or "shocking" experience which works for entertainment/youtube.

    Hi. Good of him to contact you and put forward some suggestions for change. But I wouldn't want to go back lol. If I wanted to see that then Id watch hotel inspector lol. The owner is well within his rights to post him own video of improvements of cause.

    I think the owner contacting you and having a positive discussion rather than doing damage control is very admirable. I think a follow up video in a different room or the same would be more than fair and I think is worth doing. No point making a video of the bad if they do not then get the opportunity to put it right. As someone mentioned be a platform for change and maybe more will jump on this as an option it can only make things better.

    Never encourage a business to charge more. It's in my price range, very few are these days. I believe he can make more money by either getting a lot more bookings at range most can afford, or go upmarket and charge more and fill his hotel this way. However, what ever the charge, the very least you should expect is cleaniness.

    Blackpool needs to take there pride back ,have standards or they will never recover the magic in tourism they strongly need to keep them a flat and recapture the place in its prime when it had a better vibe .its got to start somewhere.

    I think he deserves his guesthouse to be shown on the changes so viewers know that he has changed his mattresses and not just see the guest house with a bad mattress.
