- I stayed at the Norbreck Castle Hotel in Blackpool to see if its true about the dreadful conditions the hotel and rooms are in!
The Norbreck Castle Hotel
The Britannia Norbreck Castle Hotel is one of Britannia’s largest hotels and best value for money. It proudly sits on the coast, overlooking the glorious Irish Sea.
Blackpool is one of the most popular tourist locations in the UK and The Norbreck stands as one of the most popular hotels on the seafront. All 487 en-suite bedrooms are tastefully decorated and almost all of them come with stunning sea views.

Such a big place to maintain. Was a really successful hotel many years hosting a lot of professional sports events. The yrs have taken their toll on this place probably not making enough money now to maintain it to a high standard. Just fitting new carpets right through would bankrupt it. Blame it all on the cheap chains which have killed off nice hotels to a certain extent.
The trouble is a hands-off management. It costs nothing but effort to clean.
All they need to do is clean it, that would be a start !!
we stayed there 2 weeks ago to see Funny Girls. The hotel was I have to say quite clean, freshly painted and in fairly good order. The staff were all very polite and helpful. The buffet style evening meal and breakfast were fantastic, you could help yourself and sat in an enormous spotless clean huge dining room. I know there are these vid's showing the bad stuff but honestly it's not a bad place and they are clearly making an effort to bring it up to a standard.
I used to live behind this hotel. Left 3 years ago and it Still has scaffolding up. Wow. A eye saw of a hotel.
Like you say, the Cleaners have only limited time to get through their chores.
Since Covid days, all the Hotels were empty without any profits. Staff were made redundant/out of work.😮
Some of these showers are full of fungus. Make sure you're wearing flip flops in there 😅
The beds are disgusting ..full of bodily fluids & probably excrement 😮😮
Outside of full lockdown, you would think the hotels would have used the closure to deep clean. No excuse for Britannia they could sell some of the hotels, use the money to properly refurbish the others, and charge premium rates.

He is only there to slag off and be critical of cheap Blackpool hotels to get views , he doesn't go to expensive hotels, much easier to go to a £25 per night hotel and run it into the ground , for some reason people like negativity it gets more views and more money for Mr Hotel Hunter 🙄

I have been visiting Blackpool since the 1970s probably long before you were born , listen we all know Blackpool has its problems just like every other seaside town in the UK , this RUclipsr doesn't give a shit about Blackpool he has found a niche where he goes round every cheap hotel guest house in Blackpool looking for problems, its boring and it serves no purpose other than to generate views and to make money, google how many hotels and guest houses there are in Blackpool Hundreds so chances are your gonna get crappy shitty hotels especially rooms at £25 or less .

Me & my dad stayed at the Norbreck last year for 2 nights on holiday & i really liked it, the pool was good fun & watched mama Mia in the cinema room.
It's getting a better hotel now

What a shame that these lovely old seaside hotels just aren't viable these days.Cleanliness and maintenance suffer badly.

Beds were comfortable and there was entertainment and a buffet breakfast and it was cheap so what more do you want??

I stayed there last year and everything was dirty and warn out we were in a room on ground floor (as a wheelchair user) as look at front of hotel past the swimming pool. They were going to spend millions renovations but I see they are still not started/completed. Breakfast was ok not much selection but reasonable. Lots of older generations and a queue of electric scooters. Staff polite. Lots of dirt and bits of rubble/dust on most things also spots of blood on bed sheets. Room was cold on a night.
Good to see they are catering to less mobile visitors. Even the worst establishments seem to have polite staff. It costs nothing, but they must be embarrassed by the product they are providing (not their fault).
That picture of a village looks like the home of the Bronte family, Howarth in Yorkshire. I can't imagine what that has to do with Blackpool - the nearest beach to Howarth is miles away. Maybe the owners are avid readers of Wuthering Heights?

If you want a sea view may I suggest you move to a hotel nearer the sea...or preferably in it. Lol.

For less than £30 a night that's not bad for that room, I was there last year and the room they gave me was a lot more dirty and the smell of dampness in the room was horrendous. When I got home after saying there for 2 days I unzipped my bag and the smell of dampness just hit me and then I realised how bad it actually was there.

As one of the 8%, I watch to see which hotels to avoid. Usually that's any hotel branded 'Brittania'. How on Earth are they still trading, when better performing and cleaner chains have gone bust?

A good hotel back in the day [50-60] years ago! All long gone! Kiss of death when Britannia took it over! Would make decent luxury flats! Housekeepers work bloody hard and deserve respect!

You should check the fire extinguishers in the hallways for the last service dates that would be interesting and scary.
Ive always regarded this huge hotel as a pitiful waste. Its absolutely massive with parts of it that are quite stunning but have seen better days. Its been ruined and is in a terrible state. I reviewed this hotel a few years ago after a 2 night stay, it was rough even the security guys on the door kept their hands in their pockets 😂
That’s water damage on the bathroom door must have been a flood.
Well at least they could then advertise their rooms as having 'running water' .....

The TV was on an arm that would have pivoted beyond the lamp but would obstruct the bathroom door.
A class Hotel in the past but like everything else in Britain has gone downhill.😢
Massively down hill
Stayed here 2wks ago for 2 nights & have to say we were lucky to be given a room which has just been refurbished & new carpets on the hallways so as smelling quite fresh, we were lucky. Have to say for £37 per night we found it to be ok value for the money & clean enough & the beds looked to have new mattresses & pillows. A fire escape at the side window but could see the sea at an angle 😂 Staff were pleasant & helpful at Reception. Didn’t eat in the hotel so can’t review the food. All in all I would stay here for 1 or 2 nights & definitely there are hundreds of hotels in Blackpool which are so much worse than this one. The Norbreck is slowing being refurbished but owing to the size of it & the number of rooms it is gonna take a lot of money & time to be finished anytime soon.
Other commentators are right that the cleaners do not get enough time to do a good job , shame , can make or break a visit , As for the noise , old buildings were not as well insulated against it , Have a great Weekend mate , Best wishes to you and the Family .🙂👍

I splash out and stay at the Lyndene when I go to Blackpool, though I've heard the food isn't as good as it was. I wonder what the mattress's are like there.
You were quite lucky, not a bad price, imo. I'd be happy to pay that, 4inabed, my favourite tv show would be spitting feathers as never seen such a low price on show.
Visited the Norbreck about 10 years ago with my late Wife. Not impressed, we were in the northern block with a double bed in what appeared to be a single room. Smelt a bit like someone had been smoking despite it being a no smoking room. The only good thing was the breakfast which was excellent. Looks like it's not improved over the years.

I think the envelope is for when they pre-provision cards at an earlier time for room entry it helps make sure they cant be mixed up with another persons room by whoever the desk person or porter is. Its not done at the time of check in because inexperienced transient staff would mess it up so this segregation means the desk clerk only has to hand you the envelope. Such a large envelope though, they should have got a box of the smaller A6 size envelopes which would be more appropriate. But the larger window ones were probably going cheap!
If I was on a girls weekend I would stay there. It will suit lots of people who want a cheap holiday.
Such a shame. I remember going to The Norbreck in the 70's .. They used to have all the top bands of the day playing there!
They should shut this down as a hotel and thr council should support it financially and turn it into a home for the homeless. Doesnt have to be pristine as long as its clean, warm and safe. They spend enough of silly statues that nobody wants, so why not spend on the homeless. Majority of homeless people are on the streets through no fault of their own. About time this country gave back to its citizens.

I agree this place should have some investment put into it, its a grand hotel that's seen many famous ppl ,sadly I would imagine it needs around 1 million investment to bring it back to its former glory,I really hope it does,I've stayed there twice and enjoyed just walking around the hallways, beautifull place and wasn't expensive tbh

Always wanted to see the rooms in here, the public toilet was disgusting when I used them.
That bathroom was really yucky 🤢 & the room was very noisy, but the hotel had some beautiful features & thanks Dan 😊👍

Just found your channel and omg I am never staying in a hotel again 🤢🤮🤢😁. There is general cleaning which should be done on change over and there is deep cleaning in winter months. I know that the cleaning staff are poorly paid and have a certain amount of time to clean. I blame the head of housekeeping and management especially. The managers should do a week in each role within the hotel. Keep up the great work 👍

Stayed in here with my family the last week in February ,2023 bathroom was nice , but the furniture was from the 50,sl60s and bedding was mix match bases and matresses , friday night singer was on and bingo , about 30 people including children in that lounge , saturday 10 buses from Glasgow turned up over 300 people for the 39 pounds one night bed and breakfast and cabaret , but there wasn't any singers on at all , two older ladies had to be taken to hospital, one fell and the other lady took not well in her room , hope they're ok now , hotel is too far up north

Hotel hunter I've been following your videos for a few weeks now , good job and well explained, keep up the good work , let's hope you don't run out of cash , it's expensive travelling and paying for rooms , I'm just back from blackpool with my wife ,my son and his partner and 5 children , stayed in the strathdene hotel wood field road , and the owner bob early 70s, was from Leicester and tom ford the snooker professional also from Leicester comes down to stay with him the odd weekend when snooker in Blackpool is on , bob used to play mark Selby also from Leicester world champion , in the club in Leicester when mark was a young lad , bob runs the hotel himself as his lovely wife mary passed away 6 years ago , if you want to see the full history in videos of blackpool , type in on you tube ,,,, a walk on the wild side ,,,, and follow this elderly gentleman he's brilliant as well , and lyca 31 lovely lady ,

The housekeeper should be sacked because it's her job to make sure her team is cleaning to a high standard, clearly she isn't checking the rooms.

I thought toilet cleaner straight away. You can buy it as cheap as chips prices at Aldi. However could be mistaken for pee so suggest to the hoteliers not to use it as some people mind automatically think of pee.
Toilet cleaners should not be left in the toilet for safety reasons.

We stayed at the norbreck 5yrs ago,very basic rooms very dated,its a shame it has beautifull grand features it needs a good face-lift but will be very costly
Dan do you ever try out the baths or do you prefer the shower. I love a good bath with candles and music on my phone. I would give this hotel room 7 out of 10.Cheers my friend 😊 sneeze up to the ceiling love it 😂.

Hello, new subscriber here. I have to admit that for the price, it could have been in a lot worse condition than it is. I totally agree with your comments on the housekeeping being understaffed. Some people just like to complain about everything and let's face it I guarantee that if their homes were given a once over by the uv light we would expose stains in the bathroom and especially around the toilet area, unless they are ocd about cleaning. Now, some hotels deserve to be exposed with obvious blatantly low standards. I try to be more understanding myself about certain minor issues in hotels and Inns unless they are totally disgusting or have bed bugs ( massive never expectable) plus nasty stains on bedding and pillows because I expect cleanliness for the place I'm going to sleep on. The quality of breakfast and dinner for the price I have paid comes into consideration, for me plus how helpful where the staff at reception are, etc. I think you have been extremely fair on rating this place, and I look forward to watching your videos in the future. If we want exceptional hotel rooms, then they come at a much higher price. 👍😀

Hi Dan, I really appreciate your videos. I don’t understand why you clean certain areas though? You really should take latex gloves with you to inspect the room and en-suite with. You definitely shouldn’t be cleaning? If you feel uncomfortable with the room you should demand a refund because there are plenty of B&Bs you could go to for the night? Keep up the good work 😊

Me and me husband stayed in that hotel for five days with national holidays coaches in 2010 the staff weren't very nice
Really enjoyed watching the hotel needs TLC for sure but defo not the worse we've seen on here mate
Its hard to follow the legitimacy of these things when youre pointing out innocuous things like the styling of the wall art (which may well be local) or a perfectly standard iron-holder.
