Diana Ross is the best ever and she's 80 and still performing. She doesn't need the money. She sings as she loves to and enjoys entertaining people. How many singers are still performing at her age after some 65 year's? Not many. She's supreme and a true icon and legend. The Boss album I still have. Every song including I ain't been licked shows her greatness.
Diana at her peak! For those who state she is not a great singer, they miss the point. Diana has always been "more than the sum of parts". Her energy; her connection to an audience; her love of performing; giving inspiration to others by way of example. She succeeded so beautifully, as an example of what one can achieve with musical limitations and by hard work, responsibility and the power of affirmative thinking.
This is how I like my soul...powerful, high energy, pretty, upscale, clean, emotive, passionate, & pitch perfect with NO YELLING!!!!!!!!!!!! She is very versatile.
I agree, she is very versatile. The Eddie Kendricks singers are great singers and the mere fact she is really showcasing her talent while complimenting their voices on this soulful selection, shows that Diana could always sing what r&b singers can sing, but they can't sing the other type of music that she can sing, especially the music that traditionally white artists thought they owned.😮👍
In 1979, Diana Ross was 35 years old. She made her point to Berry Gordy and Motown Records! She was "THE BOSS of own life and wasn't going to be licked out of her own dreams. Berry refused to executive produce this album and promoted it. She went on her own....the album went GOLD and #1 single on the dance charts.
That's not really what happened what hay was she (Diana) wanted to have more say over her career and Diana wanted to prove to herself that she could stand own her own and be responsible for herself , she said she got to thinking here she was 35 yrs old and if she wanted to do something own her own she had to first go through Motown and Berry Gordy for permission to get her money, and as a grown woman that is just crazy because as a grown-up you should be able to do as you see fit with your money including failing and taking the responsibility for that to if that happens ,so to make it a long story short she decided to do her next recording project completely on her own which brings her to "The Boss" so you're right after writing it. I see we're saying the same things Berry Gordy wouldn't Executive Produce her album saying you wanna produce yourself then don't be asking me for help because you should feel how it is to self executive produce so Diana knowing who she is took him up on his game and she got out there and did it .I have to say what a fantastic job Diana did with Ashford & Simpson on the Boss album to me it is single handedly one of Diana's best recording by far from start to finish a gorgeously beautiful album encapsulating of the time from R&B to a touch of jazz ,disco, pop, mid-tempo range and singing in a more free style than she had previously just masterfully, proving she also has a very keen sense business acumen about herself because that album went gold in no time. Diana proved to herself that she could roll with the punch , she as adaptive business wise as she is in her singing , very special indeed she is. We would be very hard pressed to come across another Diana Ross .
Very meticulous, in reassuring, sound, music, performance....the highest. "EPITOME" of standards, assured, to the audience, DIANA ROSS, worships, "in every performance" , shared interaction, "heartfelt, reciprocates...recognizes, mutually, "ADMIRES/ADORES"
Miss Ross proves again why she is THE diva, the greatest. The joy in her performance is what separates her from all the others. Thrilling to see this live in 2004...Her singing is soulful, clear, on point, and note-perfect. There's no one like Miss Ross!!!
Diana Ross at her peak (1979-1980). Her level of energy was so inspirational and her amazingly beautiful eyes! This was a little nicer time when music was sweeter. I miss the late 70s.
i agree this and her central park concerts were her greatest. her beginnings were great too! can’t say she wasn’t a great singer/entertainer! i love her totally! “best, besides the best”. gotta give it to her! besides, she got paid like the best!
I was 13/14 When I first saw this concert! I knew then I was hooked by her magic, her charisma, her absolute beauty and god given talent! I’m my 50’s now and have set a reminder for two days time to book tickets,on the presale date, for her Top of the World tour UK 20/20! I’ve not missed a single UK tour from this goddess since 1982! She’s still sensational to this day x Super super super Uberstar 💫 🌟
Me too. I can still remember the opening of this show. It was a scene I shall never forget. Its funny how something can influence you forever. To this day, I get chills when I see her.
Not much of a Ross fan these days, but she did her thing on this song back in the day. I think the album this came from was her very best, plus this song is incredibly empowering...telling the world that you've been knocked down, you've failed at something, you've been through hell, or hurt beyond words but that hasn't stopped you from living. You WILL make it through, and that's the message of this song.
I love Diana Ross, this is the best concert ever by any female artists. One woman on stage, not choreography, not a bunch of dancers, vocally alive and entertaining. She is the SUPREME DIVA of ALL TIME. Thanks for posting, the sound quality and picture is awesome!
Watch it again, and catch Diana Ross on tour if you can. This is one of her finest performances.....it's all in the delivery, and that voice is top notch!
I've been a fan since 1964, and I'll always be one. The first time I saw her was in 1965 with Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson. My sister Helen bought my ticket as an early birthday present, I was turning eight. The ticket cost $7.00. Thank you mrswinendine for uploading these clips.
Thanks for this video. I have never seen her sing this. My son thought that she used to say "I ain't pregnant" instead of "I ain't been licked". It reminds me of him, and he made me "love", instead of "like" this song.
LOVE THIS SONG! I Seen and heard it on HBO-CABLE-TV in FEB 1980. Rushed out to buy the album. Since, then she is BOSS. Also, The Eddie Kendrick Singers are AMAZING. THANK YOU Mrs W-love it too!
Watch her singing It’s My House from this same concert - literally 2 or 3 people dancing near the stage and she is like a heat seeking missile to them. Totally grooves along. Then during The Boss, she actually pulls up several audience members to dance. Not sure why their reaction is so muted to this banger. She clearly singles out people in the audience and focuses on them. In the 2nd chorus right before the dancers come out (“No, no, no, tell ‘em for me…”) she’s looking up at her kids and her mother who were obviously having a great time. lol
Mid to late seventies was when the Ross voice was at its peak in every way.. No she does have the power of Aretha, Gladys, Patti, and many others.. But if we were to right down what those ladeis don't have in comparison to Diana the list would be a mile long...When I see this clip or listen to the Boss lp it reminds me that the greatest Ross producers were Ashford & Simpson... They brought the best out of Diana, they pushed her vocally and made mature music...
Diana did another concert in Vegas that had the most incredible, DIVA-esque opening that started with her being projected onto the curtain at the opening lines of Ain't No Mountain High Enough. It was unbelievable! Does anyone remember it or has anyone seen it? I would LOVE a copy of it!
Haha...This is THAT concert. She's carried down a long staircase and pops right through the curtain onto the stage. After she removes the fur coat and does a few songs, she arrives HERE singing I AIN'T BEEN LICKED.
@@kklustra Correction! Miss Ross walks down a staircase through a projector screen at the the beginning of the concert with the speaking yrics of Aint No Mountain High enough. .She is carried up the staircase towards the end of the show back through the projected screen.
I so agree man what i would give to be alive then to go see her in concert, not to be rude but she lost touch somewhere int he laste 90s most likely cuz of her age but man this was when she was in her PRIME and i LOVE IT!
The video here is from the concert u're speaking of. DIANA ROSS LIVE AT CAESAR'S PALACE. She began this concert by being carried through a projection screen onto the stage!
I have a new theme song which I adopted at 8:15 this morning. That was when I got a call from the doctor telling me I have prostate cancer. What??? I am too young for that. Didn't Ally McBeal always have theme song? Here's mine!
Miss thing was Motown royalty. She sold black class soul pop. Folks bought it up. Cross-over extraordinaire. The children loved her.
Diana really ate this performance up!!

I love this . Those background singers give me life !!!!
+Nicki Williams - Yep, she always has THE BEST background singers!

huge thumbs up for her backup singers.. wow.
Hands Down one of her best performances!!!! I had no idea she could let loose like this and step outside the box!!!! Go DIANA!
I prefer this over the original those background singers are the truth
Diana is knocking me out with this performance.
The show Biz era of real entertainers

Didn't they invent the term "super-star" to describle Diana Ross?
The concert that started it all for me at 12yo in 1979!!!!
Fantastic Energy. She looks and sounds wonderful....
Diana on fire and bringing the house down!
Fabulous ❤
My first time hearing this. Beautiful.
super quality not seen this concert in years, I had bad video copy thanks loved watching
FANTASTIC!!!
Sounds so clear and fresh
ah...thanks a million for the heads up!
What a contrast, she's rocking the stage and the public are just looking at her, not even clapping on the beat haha
They're just square but she had super loyal fans so they love her and i'm sure they're enjoying it
i think that's how a concert should be viewed.

At the very top of her game...
Diana can work a pair of heels better than anyone as well.
Tina Turner went to see this concert. Met with Diana backstage and they had a brief chat.
Live At The Forum gets me, also.
