I was a kid when this came out. I was into KISS, Aerosmith, AC/DC, The Eagles, Led Zeppelin. I turned on the tv and this special was on. This hard rock / metal fan sat there and watched the entire special. Diana Ross is a great entertainer.
Diana Ross....They don't make them like her anymore. One of the greatest artists of all time. Simply Incredible!!!!! She gives me the sweetest hangover.
I don't get tired of watching this over and over! This woman is an institution of American Entertainment. More than that, she's a phenomenon of music! The best vibes, again, to Diana Ross!
Her personal magnetism and charisma are off the charts!!! I've seen her in concert many times now and always, always, it's a mind blowing event. No one like her.
I've heard/seen Diana Ross sing this song in person on 3 different occasions and each time it has been magical!! Her musicians always play the intro to the song first and the audience goes ABSOLUTELY wild!!!! And of course , she is ALWAYS superb!!! I even saw this show in person, the traveling version, that is. It was exactly the same show that she put on at Ceasar's Palace. There will never be another like her---not in my lifetime, anyway.
WHO SINGS WHILE LIFTED IN THE AIR LYING DOWN? This was a concert of historic magnitude! Also...i should add that "Ain't No Mountain..." is one of the best produced records of all time. The way it builds to epic levels....from simple talking to an almost religious experience! Only the great DIANA ROSS!!!!
I saw her sing this song when it was #1 in August 1970 at the Ambassador Hotel in LA. She came out on stage wearing a Bob Macky red sequin gown with a huge afro. Brought the house down. Second time I went I sat up front with my girl friend and we both bounced on the edge of our seats through the entire show. I can still see her in my mind to this day.
I saw this show in person. Diana Ross-what more can I say? And in person it was just as it is on this screen, at the begining she stepped out of the screen and at the end, those guy carried her back into the screen. The most fantastic live show I've ever seen!!! And that was more than 30 years and many other shows i've seen ago.
I saw this on video when I was maybe 10 or 11 years old? I still have the same reaction when I see it now, eyes glued to the screen & totally transfixed: goodness Diana personified the complete embodiment of glamor!
I love her so much, she is a true icon and a true DIVA. The term is completely misinterpreted of what defines a diva, but Ms. Ross is an original diva with CLASS along with the vocal trinity Mariah, Whitney and Celine.
I remember going to see this concert in Las Vegas in 1982 and it's something I will never, ever forget. Diana is such an artist and entertainer. This concert, Diana and the just pure excitement and glamor of this will forever be in my heart and memory. Thank you, Diana, for such a wonderful performance and memory. I will never, ever forget you and how I felt when I saw you.
This is one a very talented and beautiful woman; glamorous; classy and elegant is what Mrs. Diana Ross is; there was also something very special about Diana to attain Michael's heart like she did. I think they would have made a stunning couple with good looking and talented babies indeed.
Like MJ said "I always had a crush on her" haha...I know what he's talkng about, my god. I mean LOOK AT HER. Break my heart!! And she can sing while being lifted almost upside down and still sound flawless man. Even though she sounds and looks different today I will always look at her with the deepest, deepset respect,
I could´t believe my eyes when I watched this video.I saw the same show in april 1980 and I will never forget the strenght of that woman...My God!!!There won´t be anyone like her..I love you Miss Ross...
Been looking this song since back in the day with Supremes young but loved it says all about you need me I will be there, just call, no mountain high enough no matter how far you are you got someone in need you will climb a mountain, cross oceans, whatever tt takes to get to them and to be by their side so they know u got them no matter what! 💜💯
I love to hear Diana Ross sing this song. Its something about this song that makes you feel sentimental and Diana seems like she gets emotional everytime she sings this song. Lady Ross has always exemplified class and grace. I have always loved and admired her. She is a living legend that has endured the test of time.
My Angel. I saw this show in person. So beautiful. So wonderful. Diana, I will love you even after I am no longer a part of this world. I love her sooooo much!!!!
I remember watching this with my fiance in 1979 on HBO. It was great then and remains the same...hairs still stand up on my arms. The true Diva Miss Ross!!!
when i saw toni's performance on the ama's in 1996 i knew right away that she got the coming and going out the screen from diana ross i've been watching this concert evry since i was nine years old we had it on vhs i was amazed i know every song, every dance routine, every line i just recently purchased it on dvd! a true diva!
Diana is GREAT, I had the opportunity to see her in concert this weekend 2/26/2011 (Bossier City) she was EXCELLENT. She sounds Fantastic, her music will never grow old.
Imagine my surprise when I suddenly realized this morning that I'd actually lived long enough to have forgotten how much I loved Miss Ross. So, I went searching for this song and found this video I've never seen before! A fitting tribute to a gay goddess.
1970 #1 Billboard. I saw Ms. Ross sing this at the Ambassador Hotel and when the first note of this song came on everyone went wild waiting for Diana to change gowns and she came back wearing a fire engine red sequin gown with an afro a foot high and a foot on each side. We were already crazy about hearing her sing this #1 song at the time and seeing her dressed was awesome. She was singing with a smile on her face that I remember to this day now 43 years ago. Love you always Ms. Ross.
Diana doesn't have the same power in her voice that Aretha Franklin or Nina Simone have. I love them for their depth and harshness, but Diana has a softness, sweetness and compassion in her voice that i find equally as powerful in its own way and which i love her for.
yes, please don't misunderstand me. i love Diana more than anyone else. what i meant just was they have very different voices. Aretha and Nine Simone can belt a song out in a very powerful way, but Diana is so much softer and sweeter. i love them all for different reasons but Diana has such a sweet voice its hard to resist
Those motown singers know how to put on a show. Tammi Terrell, Gladys knights, and Diana Ross. They hold your attention, don't have to dance or move just sing and put you in a trance.
I saw her sing this song in August of 1970 at the Ambassador Hotel in LA. She wore a fire engine red sequined dress with a huge afro. When she came out from behind the curtain, the whole audience went wild. 41 years ago and I can still remember it as though I had just walked out of the showroom. Excellent.
I absolutely love this song! and I absolutely love her for being Michael Jackson's friend, supporter, and helper!! God bless you, Diana! Michael smiles down from heaven on you. :) You are wonderful! Michael and Diana... My two beloved superstars. :) God bless you two. :)
A #1 hit for Diana Ross in September 1970. It also hit #1 on the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was #6 on the Adult Contemporary charts and in the United Kingdom. It hit #7 in Canada, #14 in Ireland, and #25 in Australia.
Nobody in their right mind could possibly say anything negative about Miss Ross. We just saw her this past Saturday night in Saratoga, California and she was beyond belief. Not only is she one classy lady, she still has such a beautiful voice. You can tell she cares about her audience. We love her!
This is one of my favorite songs by her, it's something about her voice and her presentation that I immensely dig. Another of my favorites sung by Miss Ross was her rendition of the Billie Holiday song Good morning heartaches. That was a really well sung song by those two wonderful African American songstress.
Do we realize that this particular concert is probably one of the best EVER in music history. One would be hard pressed to find another concert that shows a certain artist at the top of their game and in all of their splendor. This is Diana at the height of her powers....
I have loved Ms. Ross since I was 9. I have been to many of her concerts, seating on the 3rd and 4th rows. I have yet to shake her hand. I'm now 45. Ms. Ross if you ever come to Texas. I would love a hug?
..I am 35, but I have to admit that Ms. Ross is a DIVA as many of the female stars from the 60s and 70s. Today it's difficult to say that word to any of the singers..
I saw this show in person when she brought it to Birmingham,Al. some 30 years ago! What a show!!!! What an Entertainer!!!!!! What a Lady!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There will never be another DIANA ROSS, period!
I AGREE WITH YOU 1MILLION% NOBODY CAN TOUCH DIANA ROSS! NOT ONE OTHER FEMALE SINGER/ENTERTAINER DEAD OR ALIVE COULD EVER, CAN EVER, and WILL EVER BEAT THIS WOMAN!! DIANA ROSS IS ONE OF A KIND AND THE FIRST FEMALE SUPERSTAR AND STILL GOING 50+ YEARS NOW! MISS ROSS THE BOSS!!
Beautiful performance. When she said "just call my name, I'll be there" , and then cried, I wonder if she was thinking of Michael and if they were secretly lovers at that time. Gossips! But I'm fascinate by their relation!
I had the opportunity to hear Diana sing this song when it had first come out, at the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles in August of 1970. She was in the dressing room changing gowns and before she came back out the orchestra had started to play the first chords of this song letting us know what she was going to sing and sparked the excitement of the crowd. When she did come out she was wearing a fire engine red gown and a huge afro. She gave a flawless performance and received a standing ovation.
She set the standard at an all time high for ALL performers to follow. She is a LIVING LEGEND.
you said it all!
Hope she lives to be over 100
I was a kid when this came out. I was into KISS, Aerosmith, AC/DC, The Eagles, Led Zeppelin. I turned on the tv and this special was on. This hard rock / metal fan sat there and watched the entire special. Diana Ross is a great entertainer.
she opened the doors for the black singers. She brought class
She was 34 in this video and now she is 71 and she still has a beautiful voice.
Diana Ross....They don't make them like her anymore. One of the greatest artists of all time. Simply Incredible!!!!! She gives me the sweetest hangover.
Diana is the perfect diva. Watching her is graceful and beautiful.
I do agree, watching her makes you want to be peacefully in love...
IM INLOVE, WAT A BEAUTY
I don't get tired of watching this over and over! This woman is an institution of American Entertainment. More than that, she's a phenomenon of music!

She is the only one who can truly sing this song. The top of them all!
No wonder Michael loved her with all his heart!!;)
There is purely and simply no one like Diana Ross. Unbelievable appeal and talent. Simply the best.
The most beautiful woman in the world with a velvet voice.
She looks so happy when she sings. Just puts a smile on your face. No one will ever top this lady. Luv u Diana!!!

Great song..Diana Ross is definitely a legend. I love this song, and I can remember her playing it live in Central Park, NY in 1983.
'Diana Ross' one of the greatest voices of all times. Listed in the Guinness book of world records. Wow! what a amazing voice. Love it.

Miss Diana, flawless. But can we talk about the band for a sec? Perfection!

She looks like an Angel and sings like one too
I handed her a gardenia during Lady Sings the Blues at Circle Star Theater, San Carlos, CA. ages ago.

Diana Ross and Donna Summer have something that you can't find now: VOICE, even 40 years later. No matter what they sing, the sound is sweet.
Excellent.

I remember this song. It was a Number 1 Hit in the US-Billboard Charts in 1970.
