First time mini 2 owner. First flight yesterday a little rocky so I am going back to basics. I was in bright sun yesterday and literally lost all vision of fly app on phone and lost site of drone over a highway about 1/2 mile out luckily found the RTH and all is well. I have a sunshade arriving tomorrow. the biggest challenge was determining forward to fly drone as I couldn't see the screen. Anyway, I appreciate the very clear concise videos and will watch today before I try it again. Thanks
That sounds like a stressful situation! I've been in tonnes myself. As long as you have RTH height sett above all obstacles around you, so trees, buildings, power lines, no matter what happens, phone dies, loss of signal, the drone will fly safely back to you and land within a 2m radius. A sun shade could help, sure! I usually just stand away from the sun and use my body as a shade.

I use the iPhone 8+, it’s pretty old but it’s solid and works great, plus you can pick it up used for a good price and is guaranteed to work perfectly with DJI devices.

RTH Tip: If you're film in woods or somewhere else that has obstructions above the drone, set it to "Hover", otherwise when you lose signal it will climb to its preset altitude ( there's a minimum you can set it to) and fly into branches and crash. This is of course assuming you can walk over and get the drone. It its in a forest over a river, well, good luck :)

If you're a new Mini-2 owner, as I am, these are good settings. My Mavic Pro decided to go for an uncommanded "swim" at Lake Havasu AZ, of course right before next week's trip to Lake Tahoe. Bought the Mini-2... and love it. Tiny powerhouse. Subscribed.
That's awesome! I'd say the Mini 2 is a wonderful drone, and I use it 99% of the time, the other 1% I take out the Mavic 2 Pro, and the reason for that is usually severe winds. Wonderful drone, glad you like it! Welcome to the channel!

Great videos man, I got my DJI mini 2 a couple days ago, i love it so far, i got the fly more combo, some propeller guards, and a lume cube strobe light, all i want now is some ND filters
I highly recommend the ND filters, they really make a huge difference, I don't fly without them. Links in the description if you need them. Have fun and be safe!
I highly recommend "DJI care refresh". When my mini 1 broke the camera gimbal, i learned. Love my mini 2, 6 batteries, cool, zoom, occusync is super cool

Great video! I’ve got one question. When I’m adjusting my settings, the settings screen covers my whole phone screen, and I can’t figure out a way to close it because there isn’t any place outside of their window to tap. Any hints on how I can close that without closing the application?

I have a question. I tracked your settings in the app. I own an android and in my application the settings are not where you display them. For example the camera settings are on the right at the bottom of the screen while they are displayed in the middle of the screen when you press the icon for example video quality settings?

You have a knack for this! When I think of the mini it's synonymous with you. Please do a trial of these. DJI Mavic Pro & Platinum STEALTH Upgrade Propellers. Also, I've noticed your stick s will play back all your movements. Maybe you could do a video and talk through the stick movement while we can see the recorded movements. Thanks Kurt! I'm afraid I don't own the Pro or Platinum, at the moment it's the Mini 2, Pro 2, Inspire 2 and Matrice 600. I've thought about that, but everyone does that, and it's not really about where your fingers are, but rather the feeling. It's all in the hips, and that's the truth. Practice, practice, practice.
I agree with the op, it would be very helpful especially if we are using your settings. practice does make perfect, however if you add the stick movements it would be way more easy to understand the timing and synchronizations that your talking about for us to fine tune our practice. You say there are others that have those videos out, but I like your shots better so I would rather see them from you. Would make for some awesome content, thank you very much for your current videos as they r very helpful as is.

Hi Philip I started testing my dji mini 2, today on a soccer field, then when I tried to do your trick to grab it from beneeth and flip it, it went up probably because of the sensors, so could you please tell me where you grab it so it won't escape and go up ? Thank You! I'm afraid that doesn't exist anymore, it's not been moved to the bottom left, it's basically just a radar to let you know where you are.

I wonder if the gimbal of your mini 2 jumps up when tilted down and flying forward? My jumps from 90° to 80° and I have to recalibrate it back to 90° every single time I fly forward looking for composition of my top down shots. It seems like this is well known issue for majority of the mini users on different forums and it's very annoying. Greetings /Zlatan

Hi Pierre, thank You! No, you don't need to put it in airplane mode, if you get a call just decline it and you'll be fine. Remember to always set your RTH accurately, so if your phone does get disconnected your drone will find it's way back to you safely no matter what.
Great video thats got me thinking. I have a number of DJI Drones and they’re all pretty much set to full Auto. Id love to see a video that could ween me off Auto and show the effects, the do’s and the don’ts of manual settings.

Thank you, very helpful, any idea if there is a shortcut/preset where you access manual gimbal calibration during flight to fix the horizon without going into menu, would be nice to have this option for the “fn” button. Or am I missing something?
I'm afraid that option doesn't exist, I just fix it in post if it goes of course.
Nice instruction 👍 That 180 degree rule is only useful if you are filming moving objects to show motion blur. For regular video its not needed or that useful. Drone film guide mentioned this a couple of times in their videos on youtube.
Thank You! Being that 99% of the time I'm filming moving objects or the drone is moving the 180 degree rule is very important. It's the standard to achieve the classic Hollywood look, as natural as it gets. Basically, if you walk on a film set and set anything other than that on the camera you're in for a world of hurt 😂 or you better have a damn good reason for doing so.
The drone is constantly moving, so I don't agree with Stewart on this one, even though I totally respect what he does. I understand why someone would choose a 360 degree shutter angle or a 45 degree shutter angle and I believe those are artistic choices we make consciously, so to allow the drone to go full auto, well, that's just not for me, I like to be in control of my image.
I will however agree that if the drone is pretty high and it seems like it's moving super slow the shutter can be cranked up and almost show no visible difference from the 180 degree rule.

Hey Phillip, you kinds skimmed through this part. You said 25 FPS for Europe and 24 FPS for USA, why not 30? Wouldn't 30 allow for smoother shots? And then just change the shutter speed to 1/60?
I'm pretty religious when it comes to fps and shutter speed, I use the European 25fps and I stick to the 180 degree angle rule. However, sure, you can drop to 1/30 and slow it down 20% for a little bit of a smoother ride, but the thing is so smooth anyway I really don't feel the need to do that.

@@PhillipSkraba Are the ND filters a good buy? I worry about hurting the gimbal, losing the filter or having an unbalanced image.
I’ve used them for over a year now on the Mini series, and had no problems at all. I personally consider them a very good buy as they allow me to achieve the cinematic motion blur I aim for.
@@PhillipSkraba Last question I promise. I have had both the original mini and now the 2. I have had issues with video noise with both. Always while in motion using the cine setting. Is the sensor two small to keep up? Or, is it a user issue. Thanks! Peace
@@MurphySpeaking That depends on when you're filming, is it night? The Mini had problems, the Mini 2 though actually does a pretty good job, even on ISO 1600. C mode should be slow and smooth, no idea what could be going on there.

Hi Ricardo. Thank You! The best program for Windows will be DaVinci, it's free, but it's also known as one the worlds best editors. There are tonnes of beginner videos on RUclips to help you get to grips with it. Sure, I think the A1/A3 will be fine depending on which country you're in, you'd need to check with the official Portuguese website. You're English is just fine!

Hey bud do you have like a cheat sheet for taking photos and videos what the settings should be. My first flight was on auto and everything was washed out since it was bright out. I ordered filters now I want to practice before I go on my vacation. Thanks
Well, not really. I usually shoot on shutter 1/50th, with an ND16 during the day, sometimes a little more depending on the amount of sun blasting the scene. Always use manual, control your destiny 🔥😂

I got my mini yesterday and if you do not mind me asking the question of why everything looks hazy? If I turn down the exposure it is too dark to see everything but with everything on auto it just looks hazy and without detail really. Especially things like groups of trees.
That sounds a little odd. If you use manual settings during the day you'd need to have nd filters on the lens, otherwise you need to be on auto settings. It should be pretty clear and look normal with auto settings, the only thing you'll be missing out on is natural motion blur.
Make sure to remove the cameras cover 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Fantastic video, just the thing to watch for a recap. I don't seem to be able to change the Double-Tap or Tap Button Customization. If I tap to change them, it goes blue, but I don't see any other options other than RECENTER GIMBAL. How did you change yours to Toggle Map/Live View?

Typical, but no big deal, tapping the screen to swap between map or live view is not a big deal. I hadn't realized that each of the quick flight settings needed to have the camera settings changed, so I am glad I watched your video, the question is, do these settings stay saved or do I have to make these changes every time?
@@LookatBowen They stay saved, sure. I made a video where I show my gimbal settings too, it's the cinematic shots video.
Phillip: I went back to this video on settings (after watching your DJI Air 2S Requiem video) because I know I don’t have my Advanced Gimbal Settings right (pitch speed, pitch smoothness, yaw rotation speed, and yaw smoothness). Those have to be set three times for Cine, Normal, and Sport. As it turns out, you skipped over that in this video. What settings do you normally use? If it is too much to write here, maybe you could write a list, take a picture of it and post for all? Or maybe it is worth a short video drop? Thanks! Dan

@@PhillipSkraba I fly mostly with BT300s. You can not only see through the camera but also your surroundings. I think it is easier to fly through the tight spots that you demonstrate in your vid. I understand your point. It was a learning curve for me.
I think my problem is more a sickness, like watching 3D, it kind of makes me feel weak at the knees, so I stick away from that.

Hi Katie, sure, it's in the app. Open the app, don't connect your drone and press Profile at the bottom, then press More on the left side and it should open up all your stats for all your flights on all your drones. Hope that helps!

You're welcome! It's possible you're using Android, it differs a little from Apple when it comes to the app, but just tiny differences.
Hi! 1st timer here and i love your videos. Question: why is that on 4k video, frame rate is set to 24/25 fps, not 30? Thanks.
Thank You! 25fps is the European standard, so I stick to that. I could fly 30fps and slow it down a tad, but the drone is so smooth and clean I really don't feel the need to.

You're welcome! It's worth setting it up correctly to get smooth motion. You have some stunning views out there, I'd recommend some ND filters to get the exposure correct. I love Cali and really miss it, can't wait to travel again. There is some serious stutter going on in the videos, I'm guessing that's the wrong ratios you're referring to. Let me know when something new is up, more than happy to daydream about being in Cali!

You're welcome! ISO 100, 24FPS over there, 1/50th unless there is 1/48th on the Mini 2, not actually sure about that and then choose an ND filter that allows for correct exposure of the scene and you'll have super smooth and amazing looking footage! Let me know when you have a new one up!

Hello. I have just purchased a mini 2 the other day and there is no "DJI Fly" App in the android play store anymore. I have installed a DJI Go 4 App which is failing to connect to the smartphone in initial setup. Am I missing something? Can't now contact support until Monday since customer service only available Mon-Fri 9-5 and was hoping to get this flying for a wedding I'm attending on Monday. Oh welllll 😩
Hi Phillip! Great video and it is helping me out with my Mini 2 immensely. When you talked about Pano and Quickshot mode I noticed you didn't change it to manual mode like Photo and Video mode. Is that on purpose or should it be changed to manual? Thanks!
Hi John, that wasn't on purpose no, I do everything on manual if I can. The only reason I'd have the drone on auto is if I forgot to pack my ND filters 😂 I'm happy my videos are helping you out!

Please I have a question to ask....in the transmission option menu of my dji mini 2..only automatic it displaying at the frequency sub menu..I can't am not seeing dual band or any other two frequencies.please any idea about that issue.

You're welcome! Okay, so get the drone outside, where there is good GPS, get it in the air, switch over to Quickshots and then you can go into the menu and change it to 4K. I hope that helps!

I had the exact same problem Troy! When you get it in the air you’ll love it, flies like a Mini, transmits like a Pro.
@@PhillipSkraba Of course today is windy, cloudy and ugly outside. Yesterday was a beautiful day. Same thing happened when i got my spark 3 years ago. It was a week before I actually flew it.

@@PhillipSkraba Just did. I took it way up and it started drifting away. I thought I lost connection. I had to put it in sport mode to get it back. Talk about nerve racking.
haha now you know you’re alive! Yes, remember to set rth height and if in trouble Sport mode and get that sucker back. It does drift in high winds, worth downloading UAV forecast to keep an eye on things, of course if it’s twister style winds keep it packed.
