Thank you. Cleared up a few things for me. You may have had to retake a few times but I know I’ll watch again and again until I am conversant. Well done.
I have just acquired a Dji mini 2 drone and needed some setup advice. Your description and advice is perfect and you have a very engaging way of presenting. It is clear, precise and to-the-point. Best demonstration video I have seen for a long time, if ever, and I've viewed quite a few. Thank you very much.
Thank You! Yes, I guess they did that because they thought only beginners will use them and not care about the 4K, I love using these, and when carefully set up they make for some insanely good shots. I really appreciate the sub Jonathan 🔥
Just got the DJI Mini 2 few days ago and was able to fly with confidence after watching a few of your videos , appreciate the work and info you put into the videos bro !
I use the iPhone 8+, it’s pretty old but it’s solid and works great, plus you can pick it up used for a good price and is guaranteed to work perfectly with DJI devices.
Thanks for your work, Phillip. New Mini 2 owner but retired TV cammo - really appreciate the detail and professional (but human) attitude. Even if it means scrolling back a dozen times to catch all the detail - you've really helped me. (If covid restrictions let me pick up my electric minivan next month in Sydney Australia and drive the 4000km to Perth I aim to get some vision which will be even better now thanks to your coaching. Thanks.)
You're welcome Steve! Now that is a drive I'd love to do, though I've heard it's one of the worlds most dangerous roads due to how tedious it is. Have fun with your Mini 2, it's all about feeling it out, allowing it to surf the skies.
First time mini 2 owner. First flight yesterday a little rocky so I am going back to basics. I was in bright sun yesterday and literally lost all vision of fly app on phone and lost site of drone over a highway about 1/2 mile out luckily found the RTH and all is well. I have a sunshade arriving tomorrow. the biggest challenge was determining forward to fly drone as I couldn't see the screen. Anyway, I appreciate the very clear concise videos and will watch today before I try it again. Thanks
That sounds like a stressful situation! I've been in tonnes myself. As long as you have RTH height sett above all obstacles around you, so trees, buildings, power lines, no matter what happens, phone dies, loss of signal, the drone will fly safely back to you and land within a 2m radius. A sun shade could help, sure! I usually just stand away from the sun and use my body as a shade.
haha, thank you! I do what I can to keep things interesting here. I sometimes use a little music in some of my videos, still working things out, find my path. I hope you like it, it's a great little drone!
If you're a new Mini-2 owner, as I am, these are good settings. My Mavic Pro decided to go for an uncommanded "swim" at Lake Havasu AZ, of course right before next week's trip to Lake Tahoe. Bought the Mini-2... and love it. Tiny powerhouse. Subscribed.
That's awesome! I'd say the Mini 2 is a wonderful drone, and I use it 99% of the time, the other 1% I take out the Mavic 2 Pro, and the reason for that is usually severe winds. Wonderful drone, glad you like it! Welcome to the channel!
Great video! I’ve got one question. When I’m adjusting my settings, the settings screen covers my whole phone screen, and I can’t figure out a way to close it because there isn’t any place outside of their window to tap. Any hints on how I can close that without closing the application?

Hi, greetings from Lithuania. A quick question. Have you made a video about gimbal and drone rotation controls/smoothness settings for better videography?
Thank You! Well, with the Mini 2 it's not really that much of a problem, charge them, fly them, charge them, fly them out if you're taking them on a plane. That's about it. Greetings back from Poland!

I’ve used them for over a year now on the Mini series, and had no problems at all. I personally consider them a very good buy as they allow me to achieve the cinematic motion blur I aim for.
@@PhillipSkraba Last question I promise. I have had both the original mini and now the 2. I have had issues with video noise with both. Always while in motion using the cine setting. Is the sensor two small to keep up? Or, is it a user issue. Thanks! Peace
@@MurphySpeaking That depends on when you're filming, is it night? The Mini had problems, the Mini 2 though actually does a pretty good job, even on ISO 1600. C mode should be slow and smooth, no idea what could be going on there.
@@PhillipSkraba thanks for your effort of making short videos but for a beginner like me , can you go a bit more slowly when talking about settings 😜 thanks again for your videos!!
Hi Andres, it's so hard to please everybody, some people say I talk too fast, too slow, blabber on, trust me, pleasing everyone is impossible, I do what I can 🙈
It was very frustrating, I have days like that sometimes, but I wanted to get this info over to everybody. Thank You, I really appreciate this comment, it's great when someone understands.
Hi Philip I started testing my dji mini 2, today on a soccer field, then when I tried to do your trick to grab it from beneeth and flip it, it went up probably because of the sensors, so could you please tell me where you grab it so it won't escape and go up ? Thank you in advance for all your efforts.
Hey bud do you have like a cheat sheet for taking photos and videos what the settings should be. My first flight was on auto and everything was washed out since it was bright out. I ordered filters now I want to practice before I go on my vacation. Thanks
Well, not really. I usually shoot on shutter 1/50th, with an ND16 during the day, sometimes a little more depending on the amount of sun blasting the scene. Always use manual, control your destiny 🔥😂
You have a knack for this! When I think of the mini it's synonymous with you. Please do a trial of these. DJI Mavic Pro & Platinum STEALTH Upgrade Propellers. Also, I've noticed your stick s will play back all your movements. Maybe you could do a video and talk through the stick movement while we can see the recorded movements. Keep up the episodes coming!!!
Thanks Kurt! I'm afraid I don't own the Pro or Platinum, at the moment it's the Mini 2, Pro 2, Inspire 2 and Matrice 600. I've thought about that, but everyone does that, and it's not really about where your fingers are, but rather the feeling. It's all in the hips, and that's the truth. Practice, practice, practice.
I agree with the op, it would be very helpful especially if we are using your settings. practice does make perfect, however if you add the stick movements it would be way more easy to understand the timing and synchronizations that your talking about for us to fine tune our practice. You say there are others that have those videos out, but I like your shots better so I would rather see them from you. Would make for some awesome content, thank you very much for your current videos as they r very helpful as is.
Thank you, very helpful, any idea if there is a shortcut/preset where you access manual gimbal calibration during flight to fix the horizon without going into menu, would be nice to have this option for the “fn” button. Or am I missing something?
Hello Phil. Just want to ask. When I watched this video. There's a part that you can "turn-on" to charge your phone. I just wondering why my FLY APP step by step setting don't have that botton, just like what you did.🤔. TIA
Fantastic video, just the thing to watch for a recap. I don't seem to be able to change the Double-Tap or Tap Button Customization. If I tap to change them, it goes blue, but I don't see any other options other than RECENTER GIMBAL. How did you change yours to Toggle Map/Live View?
@@PhillipSkraba That will explain it. Thanks. Yes, I was just reading Mavic Pilots forum and someone said the same thing. Typical, but no big deal, tapping the screen to swap between map or live view is not a big deal. I hadn't realized that each of the quick flight settings needed to have the camera settings changed, so I am glad I watched your video, the question is, do these settings stay saved or do I have to make these changes every time?
Hey Phillip, you kinds skimmed through this part. You said 25 FPS for Europe and 24 FPS for USA, why not 30? Wouldn't 30 allow for smoother shots? And then just change the shutter speed to 1/60?
I'm pretty religious when it comes to fps and shutter speed, I use the European 25fps and I stick to the 180 degree angle rule. However, sure, you can drop to 1/30 and slow it down 20% for a little bit of a smoother ride, but the thing is so smooth anyway I really don't feel the need to do that.
No, I'd keep them pretty much the same. Flying through woodland usually plays tricks on the transmission, so be aware of that. If it's the Mini 2 and it looses signal below the trees, it would probably fly up to RTH height to get back home and without avoidance sensors could possibly hit the trees whilst flying up, so always beware.
I have the DJI Mini 2 as well. I was wondering how I can have the screen recording as a default on my drone. In other words. I want the screen on my phone to be what records with all the information on my videos. Thanks
RTH Tip: If you're film in woods or somewhere else that has obstructions above the drone, set it to "Hover", otherwise when you lose signal it will climb to its preset altitude ( there's a minimum you can set it to) and fly into branches and crash. This is of course assuming you can walk over and get the drone. It its in a forest over a river, well, good luck :)
Great Video on the whole Philip. I can see it's aimed at complete newbees like me so hope it's not too rude to say that some of it was way too fast. You skipped around the screen and, if it wasn't for the pause button, I'd be completely lost. I've definitely subscribed and looking forward to future videos. Thanks a bunch for sharing, it's helped me a lot. :-)
@@PhillipSkraba awesome man I'll subscribe 👊🏼 I like the vibe... I was thinking of how I would approach that for sure... Maybe dropping everything on the clip itself and throwing on an Adjustment Layer/LuT... I ended buying the drone I'm interested in getting the most out of it. I'll be using it for work 👊🏼
Great to have you aboard! I'll be dropping a video on colour grading very soon, in various situations, and I'll also drop my own luts in case someone can't be bothered or doesn't have time to process their footage. It's great for work, I'm constantly blown away by this little drone 👌🏻
Hi Abdul, sure, it’s in the video option. I made a film on quickshots, watch it to find out more. To activate them you need good gps and the drone in the air.
Hi Phillip. Great channel, keep up the good work. I wonder if the gimbal of your mini 2 jumps up when tilted down and flying forward? My jumps from 90° to 80° and I have to recalibrate it back to 90° every single time I fly forward looking for composition of my top down shots. It seems like this is well known issue for majority of the mini users on different forums and it's very annoying. Greetings /Zlatan
@@PhillipSkraba I fly mostly with BT300s. You can not only see through the camera but also your surroundings. I think it is easier to fly through the tight spots that you demonstrate in your vid. I understand your point. It was a learning curve for me.
You're welcome! Sure, set it so the sky isn't blown out, but you can see a little detail in the ground, then lock it. That way if you don't have filters and aren't using manual you can still have some control over the image.
Hey Phil great video but some settings have changed now presumably on an update. Instead of manual it is now pro mode and there is white balance on there. How do I set the white balance?
Hi Phil, how did you get the radar on the middle bottom . You only had maps on the left bottom side on you first flight video, now you have both. Thanks Mark 🙂
I’m afraid they dropped an update that rendered this feature dead 😂 They basically moved it to the maps, so clicking the maps and the the smallest arrow in the world on the bottom right of the map, that’s where you’ll find the radar now. Shame they did that, but I’ve got used to it now.
Hi Philip; you have the indicator image in the bottom centre of your screen. Mine is a the lower left hand side. How do I move mine to the bottom centre? I have asked this question all over the place with not one response. I have a hard time seeing all the information on the left, and would like some of it in the lower middle, like yours is. Please help. Thank you, Philip.
Awesome video 👍 Just got my mini 2 and this was a big help Thanx.... I have one question for you and that is if I should put my phone in airplane mode when flying? If I get a call in flight it could be a problem perhaps? New to all this so better ask before first flight. Mvh Pierre
Hi Pierre, thank You! No, you don't need to put it in airplane mode, if you get a call just decline it and you'll be fine. Remember to always set your RTH accurately, so if your phone does get disconnected your drone will find it's way back to you safely no matter what.
I'd set it on as long a shutter speed as you can vs. the wind. If you're able to get down to 4 seconds without any blur, that's perfect on moving cars. However, with the Mini 2 being so small and light, that could be hard to accomplish.
Phillip: I went back to this video on settings (after watching your DJI Air 2S Requiem video) because I know I don’t have my Advanced Gimbal Settings right (pitch speed, pitch smoothness, yaw rotation speed, and yaw smoothness). Those have to be set three times for Cine, Normal, and Sport. As it turns out, you skipped over that in this video. What settings do you normally use? If it is too much to write here, maybe you could write a list, take a picture of it and post for all? Or maybe it is worth a short video drop? Thanks! Dan
@@PhillipSkraba Thanks. I actually watched this early on but I couldn’t appreciate the gimbal settings until I have had a little chance to try some initial moves. Thus I didn’t remember now. Thanks. Dan
You're welcome! Okay, so get the drone outside, where there is good GPS, get it in the air, switch over to Quickshots and then you can go into the menu and change it to 4K. I hope that helps!
Hola! Just back from shop with new Mini2 (had a Karma before) and looking at your videos before even turning the drone on. Great explanatory video!! Dziękuję from NZ
Phillip! Thank you so much for explaining the FPS/Exposure. My first 3 videos I had the wrong ratios. My cool videos would have been AWESOME if I had the setting right. I cannot wait until my next flight. Thanks again!!!!!
You're welcome! It's worth setting it up correctly to get smooth motion. You have some stunning views out there, I'd recommend some ND filters to get the exposure correct. I love Cali and really miss it, can't wait to travel again. There is some serious stutter going on in the videos, I'm guessing that's the wrong ratios you're referring to. Let me know when something new is up, more than happy to daydream about being in Cali!
@@PhillipSkraba I ran home and fixed the settings per your recommendation! I have ordered ND filters b/c of your recommendation! Thanks again for your advice and willing to teach!
You're welcome! ISO 100, 24FPS over there, 1/50th unless there is 1/48th on the Mini 2, not actually sure about that and then choose an ND filter that allows for correct exposure of the scene and you'll have super smooth and amazing looking footage! Let me know when you have a new one up!
Great video! Thx! Just a quick question. I can’t find the compass&drone direction thing on the bottom middle of my screen. do you know if there’s any way to make it appear on the screen?
It should be there when you take off, IF you have good GPS signal, if not it disappears. However, if you've updated to the new app, the compass is now situated on the lower left. You press the map, it enlarges, then press the TINY arrow on the bottom right of the map, that will bring up the compass.

@@MurphySpeaking That depends on when you're filming, is it night? The Mini had problems, the Mini 2 though actually does a pretty good job, even on ISO 1600. C mode should be slow and smooth, no idea what could be going on there.
Thanks for the video! Can you share the gimbal settings you usually use on this drone?
You're welcome! Sure, you can find them here - ruclips.net/video/JhXF2P8QC7o/видео.html
I really enjoy your videos, I just got my mini 2 for Christmas and I’m loving it and with your videos are making things easier!!
Thank You! That's an excellent Christmas present 🔥 Have fun with it, more coming!
@@PhillipSkraba thanks for your effort of making short videos but for a beginner like me , can you go a bit more slowly when talking about settings 😜 thanks again for your videos!!
Hi Andres, it's so hard to please everybody, some people say I talk too fast, too slow, blabber on, trust me, pleasing everyone is impossible, I do what I can 🙈
Thank you for soldiering on through those stoppages. I know how frustrating that can be 🙏 Great info from you, once again
It was very frustrating, I have days like that sometimes, but I wanted to get this info over to everybody. Thank You, I really appreciate this comment, it's great when someone understands.
Very nice tutorial Sir...im in Philippines..
Thank You, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
@@PhillipSkraba yes Sir i enjoy & learn from your videos...
I'm afraid that option doesn't exist, I just fix it in post if it goes of course.
You could really tell u weren't happy.. Happens to me too chin up and continue to create the beautyfull content u do... Love the channel
Thank You Harry, it was my fault, not enough free space on my iPhone. Lesson learnt 👌🏻
Yes ,what is it for App!!!
Thank You! I've heard some Android phones have problems with that option, what are you using?
@@PhillipSkraba That will explain it. Thanks. Yes, I was just reading Mavic Pilots forum and someone said the same thing. Typical, but no big deal, tapping the screen to swap between map or live view is not a big deal. I hadn't realized that each of the quick flight settings needed to have the camera settings changed, so I am glad I watched your video, the question is, do these settings stay saved or do I have to make these changes every time?
@@LookatBowen They stay saved, sure. I made a video where I show my gimbal settings too, it's the cinematic shots video.
@@PhillipSkraba did you mean dropping to 1/60? What's the benefit of not doing that?
Your videos are absolutely gorgeous. Congratulations. I'm following you. Thanks for the useful information.
Thank You! Welcome to the channel!
Would you make any adjustments to the video settings you suggested if flying through woodland?
No, I'd keep them pretty much the same. Flying through woodland usually plays tricks on the transmission, so be aware of that. If it's the Mini 2 and it looses signal below the trees, it would probably fly up to RTH height to get back home and without avoidance sensors could possibly hit the trees whilst flying up, so always beware.
@@PhillipSkraba Yeah, you got that right
very very beautiful explanation 👌
Thank You!
Brilliant! Thanks for taking the time to do this - very helpful sir!
You're welcome!
obrigado pós suas dicas.
You're welcome!
I have the DJI Mini 2 as well. I was wondering how I can have the screen recording as a default on my drone. In other words. I want the screen on my phone to be what records with all the information on my videos. Thanks
great job. thanks for giving us tips and advice.
You're welcome, thank You!
Great video... Im assuming you can't shoot in S-log or drop the color settings?
Thank You! No log on this little guy I'm afraid. I will be dropping a video soon on my personal colour correction process for this little guy.
Hello Phillip can u please tell me that where is the option of quickshot .dronie .rocket etc please 🙏
Hi Abdul, sure, it’s in the video option. I made a film on quickshots, watch it to find out more. To activate them you need good gps and the drone in the air.
Thank you! Very informative and to the point.
You’re welcome!
Your vids are top drawer. Always enjoy them. Too bad DJI goggles or BT300s do not work with the Mini😩
Thank You! I feel freaked out flying with goggles, no idea how you guys do it.
@@PhillipSkraba I fly mostly with BT300s. You can not only see through the camera but also your surroundings. I think it is easier to fly through the tight spots that you demonstrate in your vid. I understand your point. It was a learning curve for me.
I think my problem is more a sickness, like watching 3D, it kind of makes me feel weak at the knees, so I stick away from that.
Thanks for this! Can you discuss the EV setting and when to use the AE lock?
You're welcome! Sure, set it so the sky isn't blown out, but you can see a little detail in the ground, then lock it. That way if you don't have filters and aren't using manual you can still have some control over the image.
@@PhillipSkraba So if you’re using filters and manual, there’s no need to use AE lock?
No, none at all.
@@PhillipSkraba Great!! Thanks for this and the content. Lots of helpful information.
You’re welcome!
Hey Phil great video but some settings have changed now presumably on an update. Instead of manual it is now pro mode and there is white balance on there. How do I set the white balance?
Hi James, thanks! So I set white balance to 5600k when I got the drone, since then I've never changed it. Yes, manual mode is now Pro Mode.
Thanks that makes a lot of sense and I imagine it's better to do this than leave it on auto.
What about that hyperlapse:Shot frame toggle switch that wasn't there before?
Thank you for this
You're welcome!
Great help..I’ve been set up all wrong for 2 months ,,haha..now all good
Lol, have fun Lee!
thanks for all these infos
You're welcome!
Thanks Phil, will watch more of your videos 👍
Anytime!
Thank you, Philip.
bro Phillip do u recommend leave the gimbal setting by default?
I have my settings in this video here - ruclips.net/video/JhXF2P8QC7o/видео.html

Awesome video 👍
Just got my mini 2 and this was a big help Thanx....
Phillip, please tell me why it is important to calibrate the IMU.
Fred, basically put, so your gyroscope knows what the deal is, if not your gyroscope could cause your drone to crash.
@@PhillipSkraba thanks, now I understand why.
Hi. Do you have settings for light / traffic trails at night? 😊
Thanks! Dan
HI Daniel, I dropped those settings in this video here - ruclips.net/video/JhXF2P8QC7o/видео.html
@@PhillipSkraba Thanks. I actually watched this early on but I couldn’t appreciate the gimbal settings until I have had a little chance to try some initial moves. Thus I didn’t remember now. Thanks. Dan
thank you for the great review ! i cant find my quickshoot and the quality ( 4k ) option ? how can i show it on my dji mini mavic 2
You're welcome! Okay, so get the drone outside, where there is good GPS, get it in the air, switch over to Quickshots and then you can go into the menu and change it to 4K. I hope that helps!
I like that straight into the video nice ❤❤
haha, thanks James!
Hola!
Just back from shop with new Mini2 (had a Karma before) and looking at your videos before even turning the drone on.
Great explanatory video!!
Dziękuję from NZ
You’re going to love it! It’s like the Mini 1 on steroids! To Ja dziekuje!

The latest app update moved the compass to the map down in lower left corner
It should be there when you take off, IF you have good GPS signal, if not it disappears. However, if you've updated to the new app, the compass is now situated on the lower left. You press the map, it enlarges, then press the TINY arrow on the bottom right of the map, that will bring up the compass.
Thanks Phillip, settings adapted :-)
Excellent, have fun with it!
