    Thank you for the putting the time and effort into this video. This video was way better than the last one which lacked just enough info to make a sceptic like myself not believe.     I don't think this really knocks the MCS off top spot yet, it's still one heck of a lock.
    I can't help imagining a less pretty 'square keyed' MCS with 2 axes and 16 rotors. You'd have to pick it with a C shaped magnetic shield and there's far more chance of a rotor scrambling when you spin the plug. It would double the number of rotors that need to be picked and really elevate this lock to a whole new level. Perhaps a new generation of this superb lock could be around the corner for high-sec applications?
    My worry is that obscurity is currently working in this locks favour. It seems like quite a wide keyway and so there's a danger that eventually some smartass will come up with a magnetic pick that features its own rotors that can either scrub or permutate this lock... perhaps even decode it. I remember seeing a key for pin-tumbler that had a push-pull jig for each bit which was a little scary to see.
    I'd love to see a less modular version of the MCS that operates more like a safe and disengages the gate as a handle is tested. A weaker magnet than the key would then be able to lift all the rotors to the zero position if a key wasn't inserted and holding them. That would mean you'd have to keep all of the polarisations in place as you pull the handle to stop the rotors rouletting on each attempt... but that turns it from a eurocylinder into a far more specialised product. The banking sector possibly?
    I can't wait to see where Evva goes next. Hopefully they won't just downsize their amazing R&D team and coast on this one product for a decade.

      Hi Gary, lot of ideas! The MCS is a good lock, though in my opinion a little complex in terms of moving parts and parts list etc. But it does seem to operate well for a long life. In terms of improvements, I don't feel more are better. As you note, it may help with free-hand picking, but ultimately, the vulnerability would still fundamentally exist. Why not eliminate that vulnerability totally? It can be done (with only a single part addition) with a way I've come up with and filed a patent for...EVVA was just totally uninterested. If you make free-hand picking harder, it just makes it harder for a hobbyist to get into, nothing to do with specialized field tools that governments may come up with to get into these locks. Spared no expense so to speak.
      I also hope lock companies don't downsize R&D, but I get the feeling that some of them have retired leaving a different generation to carry things on. I hope someday they take direction from the software world and begin to embrace things found by the community and use them as an opportunity to improve their locks, rather than ignoring them and claiming they don't exist.

      I agree you should determine what is secure enough for your application, however, you do realize this is the how-to video where I talk through the process? Check out my other videos where Gen 1 lock was around 8 minutes picking and the Gen 2 was just under 10m (mostly due to master-keyed gen1). Also keep in mind that this is picking free-hand vs using a specialized combined tool to exploit the same weakness. I don't have the accuracy freehand when testing gates, I would say only a 50% hit rate where I'm trying vs where the rotor may end up. Eventually it gets picked, but certainly could be faster.

      draukan this is my first video watched, I was just considering that in the field there are many variables that could make this procedure more difficult. In addition I understand that it is in fact only half picked to be truly opened you need to repeat the operations another time? That was the sense of my comment. Thank you

      For sure it would be harder in the field to do this method. I don't consider it practical this way, but the vulnerability exists. If there were a faster method it sure wouldn't make it onto youtube. I was also only pointing out that 25 minutes is nowhere near what it would take, and that a different tool set is certainly possible.

    Ok, this is next level picking. I don't know if your work is more related to safe cracking or to general lock picking :P
    The most sophisticated picking method I've ever seen on a cylinder.
    The first videos that you posted a few months ago, got me a bit disappointed to see such an amazing cylinder getting picked.
    But I'm glad that you posted this video. In my opinion it proves that this lock is still practically (not technically) unpickable under normal circumstances (in a real world senario). Not to mention that in my place we use escutcheons/defenders to protect the cylinder so that would make things even more difficult I guess.
    Still, your work is quite impressive.
    I wouldn't be surprised if one day I see a video of yours picking the Abloy Protec 2.

      Thanks, I agree this method was more a proof of concept, and the how-to here is geared towards hobbyists. But just because a lock isn't shown to be possible to pick, doesn't mean it's pick-proof. Just like here I don't show a faster method/tool, but it doesn't mean it isn't possible to develop or that people don't already have them. I still think the MCS could benefit a LOT from very minor modifications that would make this technique impossible.

      You're right. I guess that's why Abloy also carefully describes its Protec series products as "virtually" pick-proof.
      Also I read your description after posting my comment so I take back a few things I said :P
      I hope EVVA finds this video and improves the MCS's design by fixing those flaws.

    Wow I'm impressed. I wonder if you could laminate the mu metal onto the back of the probe so you didn't have to switch the shield back and forth or of it would let flux leak around.

      It would also be interesting to test with the cover off the rotors on the shielded side to see if the magnet is still having any influence through the mu metal

    Almost half an hour !!! I can't imagine the thief manipulating in the lock that long time.They usually have a few seconds and they give up after that.

      Even more, on the actual door mounted will take more time, and if the euro sash lock is usually 3 turns to open. but that is not the point here.....

      @@georgegeorge2526 only the ball bearing is an issue after getting it in an "open" position, as one can just remove the pick and the rotors will stay in the gates. Use ordinary pick to defeat the ball bearing again each rotation.

    Does this hearing method work for other locks, too?
    Can you determin a false set with that method?
    I wonder if you could filter the noise by frequency to only hear the picked pins.

    Don't see many criminals looking to steel a tv being able to do all this. If you are smart enough to do this, hopefully you are smart enough to get a decent job.

      Generally I agree! The point of the video isn't to help criminals, which should be obvious, it's to point out a flaw in the system, where top levels of security are demanded. For many residential applications I do agree this lock should be plenty enough and likely anyone breaking in isn't going to pick even a basic lock. This lock was previously thought to be impossible to pick though, a dangerous concept if organizations rely on that and for example don't use surveillance in addition.

    Anything that takes more 5 minutes, is unpickable in reality, bad guys won't try that long, they will cut the window glass...So this is still a very good lock.

    So what are some of the padlocks that are: hard to pick; moderate brute force resistant; drill and saw resistant; less than 50-100 USD; Hard to pick/open by any other means?

      Depends on exactly how hard to pick you are looking for, but one of the American 700 series (or equiv Ace brand) padlocks are great, make sure they have a few anti-bypass wafers in them, and a 6th pin stack. They will defeat for the most part raking, bumping and most average level picking. IMO it really depends on what you are trying to secure, a standard gym locker? I'd go with any Abus, but I do like the plus cores that are disc detainers, here blending in is more important than full security. A container in the middle of nowhere? Sounds like a job for a S&G and a security system.

    Wouldn’t it be faster if you work from the rotors in the back and move towards you so you don’t mess with the rotor every time you pull out the pick?

      Panda FPV no the rotors can bind in a random order. Only the one furthest forward binds last. Also if you keep full tension on when moving between rotors, you won't lose progress on any picked rotor.

    I really don't understand the tensioning, or at least how you can let it go and re tension the other side without magnets 'dropping'.
    Or perhaps you didn't and it just looked like that?
    Bloody good work though, very weird but effective no feedback raking attack.

      Thanks, tension is pretty much all on, or all off. Just by dropping tension won't scramble the rotors, they aren't weighted or anything. So that's why all others stay in place. Only difference to that is if you drop tension then pull out your pick, you'll scramble one side. I wouldn't exactly call it raking either, I'm picking only 1 rotor at a time, I can tell when each is in the right position, but I can't really tell unless I put on tension. Moving a rotor is also not reliable by just putting the pick in the right place, sometimes it sticks so that's why I do small circular motions. Hope that helps!

      Вадим Туров safe manipulation doesn't require sound amplification for group 2 locks. It's all done by touch and a keen eye. Old time locks could use the sound method, it all depends on the lock design in the end.

      i know it isn't neccesary but i think that sound amplification can drastically increase measurement accuracy of contact points and speed up the process or at least reduce number of failed attempsts if they happen too often.

      by the way, is it even possible to manipulate group 2m locks with hovering fence? i don't know if anyone have ever succeeded

      Yes it is possible to manipulate all group 2M locks. I have also manipulated a Group 1M Mosler in a short amount of time. Most all can be opened NDE, but in all cases, they provide a longer amount of time than most mechanical locks as far as NDE entry goes. Non-destructive attacks against locks are mostly academic in my opinion, but they do reveal flaws in the design that could be improved in my opinion.

    Try to do this with the cylinder mounted on a door behind a good defender and especially a new cylinder that you haven't picked enough times in order to choreograph it and that seals the deal for me.If you do it under these circumstances and with a lot of noises in an outside the lab environment you will be a God ,not a lockpicker.Even if you could manage to do it you would need at least 2 hours and while you finish in joy ,the entire police department will be there to congratulate you.So,in a lab ,maybe possible in 30 + minutes but on the field 2 hours at best and that makes it non viable.It is still a lock that will keep you outside long enough.

      I have picked this in person in front of other people blind, but your comment applies to EVERY picking video on youtube, do you comment on all of them? All locks are better in the field. But the skills still translate. Yes the MCS is still a good lock, but it could be better (JMO)

      @@LockFall Would you do it in less than 25 minutes in the field though?That is the question.Because if somebody lets presume that he had the same abilty as you,would need an hour or two in a real situation if it was on a house in the suberbs it might work for him ,but if it was in the downtown inside an appartment building with lots of people moving through the floors of the building all day ,then 25 minutes is something i would consider as safe enough.I didn't want to sound offensive towards you ,i just wanted to see if the timetable of oppening is viable in the real world.Has anybody oppened the abloy pro tec 1 or 2 yet?If you know about it that is.Regards,John.

    What is is with Americans and picking locks? It's as though you love pissing lock companies off! I wouldn't have it any other way.

    Would you be interested in taking up the Hobbs Challenge? Meaning taking some of the best British Victorian locks and picking them as A.C.Hobbs did in 1851, No-one on RUclips has attempted it thus far why not give it a try and post your results.

      Haha! As a hobbyist I have already spent on locks far beyond what I probably should have, but certainly if you'd like to send me a lock or several I'm always open to looking at them. Many old locks don't generate as much interest for picking these days just because they are often more collector items. I've done safe lock manipulation, but no lever lock picking yet, I may get into lever locks someday.

      Sorry, but all I can offer is lever locks like the Chubb Detector. I would be happy to send you one for you to try your skill on on the condition that it's returned since these locks are becoming rare and are currently collectible.
      Old locks are still a challenge even today. I don't know of a single person who has picked a Chubb Detector since Hobbs. You would be the first if you did it.
      I understand that your skills in lever locks isn't all that great since there isn't many in the US, but American lock picking ingenuity is world renowned as proved by Lockpicking Lawyer, Bosnian Bill and Tumbl3r not to mention yourself.

    You know the moment someone picks an EVVA MCS that puts us all shit out of luck. Fichet F3d has been picked too....not much else left. Thank God there ain't too many characters around that can do this, but then again, there ain't that many MCS around either :-)

      Ha, well...I can guarantee you others have been able to pick this unpickable lock far before I've made it known publicly. So the question is, would it have been better for everyone to think it's impossible to pick yet people can? Or the way it is now?
      From what I've seen, there's no mechanical lock on the market right now that's impossible to pick. Maybe one day that will change.

      @@LockFall The question bro is that less than 5% of entries are through picking. Brute force is first, then bumping, rotor extraction...impressioning come way b4. Also..honestly the amount of people that can pick an MCS is ridiculously low. In the order of 0.000000...something.

      @@menemme agreed, the only point wasn't what people use for entry in the field, just that the vulnerability has always existed, and likely has been found privately before I released it public. People should know everything about their locks

      @@LockFall Pretty sure there are locks that are near "impossible" to pick... with extra pins and holes that will jam the lock if you do not have the correct key and your chances of getting it right is one in two to the number of traps so it can easily be 2% or even less.
      Though I assume the point of good lock is to make lock picking significantly harder than violent methods of entry so at least your insurance company will have clear evidence of someone breaking in.

Improbable to be picked in the field with the method & tool shown, certainly...but a better tool is possible that would make this a faster process. The point is, this is an easy fix for the lock, and why not build a better lock? Why not leverage the community of talented individuals who, just like the digital hacker community, point out flaws and they actually get fixed? This industry is in my opinion way behind the digital space. No one is suggesting "patches" or updates to locks be free, but if available at a cost, let people decide if they want them? ....or lock companies could just bury their head in the sand.
      You could also argue that no high security lock is ever needed since insurance will cover whatever. But I think some people have different requirements and there is a need for better locks in some cases. Also, locks which have been picked often leave signs they were picked, and if an insurance company wanted to know, they could easily find out by just getting the lock analyzed.
