Saw Styx at Maple Leaf Gardens in the 70s and they were great. Saw the reincarnation with Gowan at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls around 2010 and they were still great.
Saw the original band with Dennis DeYoung Angel open up for them very good show since then I've seen them twice and I really miss the original band it's just not the same but they were very good when I saw them be safe
I understand your sentiment but here Styx continues to do more and more Dennis DeYoung songs in their set. It was the combination of all their talents that made the classic lineup Styx the Amazing Band they were. Without Dennis, they are good just not Epic.
Not sure why your comment about “original member” carries any weight. To that standard Steve Perry was not an “original member” but without him Journey would still be a better than average garage band. Although it’s true Tommy wasn’t in the band when they recorded Lady he is literally responsible for a ton of the bands success and to dismiss him for not being an “original” member? Cmon
His name is Will Evankovich. He's been playing with Tommy since Shaw's solo career. He has produced there last two albums. Now he's playing on stage with them. The writing is pretty much on the wall. JY is almost 80 // Tommy is 70
Sadly, this is not the Styx I remember. Seems like JY is now just a figurehead representing the original band. Lawrence is a great keyboard player, but his voice is not nearly as good as DDY.
James "JY" Young (guitar) is the only original member. Tommy Shaw was added with the departure of original co-lead guitarist/vocalist (John Curulewski) in 1975. John played on the first 5 Styx albums, including the lead guitar on Suite Madame Blue. He quit and became a local music teacher. I've actually played with him once at an open stage night. He has long since passed away (RIP). So, yeah, the original band is local to me, and I saw them play a college gig (my first concert) back in 1974 and several times since. Dennis DeYoung (original lead vocalist/keyboards) still lives within a few miles of my house and we shop at the same food store, Lol. Lawrence Gowan is a decent singer, but nowhere NEAR as good as Dennis DeYoung... who wrote all their biggest chart-topping songs. Dennis is a self-taught pianist/keyboardist and still has amazing vocal chops, even in old age. Check out this live show with Dennis from a few years ago. He's still freakin' amazing.... ruclips.net/video/pZThG_d4lyc/видео.html
@@FrankieBag0donuts True, but Tommy Shaw is IMHO as close to an original member as one can get. John C. is rarely brought up when many people talk about STYX. As for singers, Dennis, in comparison, sings circles around Lawrence. Take care.
@@smittyg6700 - This opinion is a total LOAD! I've seen BOTH DDY and his band ans this version of STYX many times and Lawrence Gowan sings circles around DDY now... and he's a much better keyboardist! Opinions are like assholes... everyone has one and your's stinks!
Thanks John.

Had the privilege of seeing them once. Saga opened. Extreme!
Thank you for posting the video I look forward to any more you may have. 🙏
They didn’t play this song in Nashville in may this year? I wish they would have!
Saw them in Hollywood sportitorium still listening 2024
Sound was great, judging by your capture.
What Happened to our Favorite Bands 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
They sound pretty good!
All things considered....still a outstanding performance for a troop of seniors. Todd is a fantastic drummer too.
Good Cover of a Styx Classic...Dennis DeYoung is the Integral Linch Pin for Styx to be complete, IMHO.
Why the additional guitarist? Facts only please.
JY is the only original member! Styx would have achieved greater accolades if Dennis hadn't tried to be Opera man.

I remember when Kilroy came out. I thought this is the end of Styx.
@@jim6025 the moment for me was music time and that cringe MTV video
Just re-reading your post Jimmy. I apologize. I think I read into it a little too much.
Excellent
Styx is still badass
Yeah with one original guy and living off of Dennis DeYoung songs..
😊Not the same ? They are a powerhouse in this performance.
Does JY still sing Miss America?
Curtam a música. 🎼🎸
Wow they sound great
Hope you are all Enjoying your Dollars 🙏🙏🙏
Shut up Trump licker!
Mr Todd...
Where’s Ricky and Todd?
Ricky retired from performing. That was his statement from what I remember. He had a rock star career.
never saw the 3rd guitarist before? Why a 3rd? Trying to compete with Skynyrd? lol
The vocal element aside - song no longer sounds much like the original at all. JY’s really taking a backseat to that third guitar player😒…

With all the technology nowadays, the lights suck! Oh! It’s not the lights, It’s Libby🤮😂
Did they all selll out to the Devil ????

Dude give it a break u likely say the Stones are original or Boston or Foreigner or so many others.
Cheap Trick baby!!!!!!!!!
Agreed.
Right on people
Had the privilege of seeing one concert. Saga opened. Blew me away!
Jesus is Coming Back 🙏🙏🙏
Vocals nothing like original
MEH.......nobody can replace Dennis DeYoung
How many of these clowns are original members?

Hey chump, you're the clown!
This obviously isn't the first act in your play..

Terrible!🥴
Whoever the singer is ...he is not very good .
