I have a Bell, TLD and a Shoei. The Bell is easy to use and clean with the magnetic chin strap and check pads. But....l feel the Safest and most comfortable in the Shoei !
I have a problem with my Klim F3 carbon pro. The liner covers up the rear 2 exhaust/vent holes at the back of the helmet 95%. Not much air is being vented from the 2 biggest vent holes. Either I have the wrong liner (just got the helmet today), or the liner needs to be redesigned for the Pro's Koro-crush-tubes.
I feel like the Thor reflex gets 0 love from the Industry has some of the best tech in a helmet available and it's 1/3rd the price of these there are multiple pros that wear them as well
For the first time I joined fantasy league because I wanted to be part of Moto in anyway I can until I can get a dirtbike again. Feels kinda good and I just wanted to thank you for hosting the fantasy league.
Japan makes quality products, Have always loved Shoei, i would say only thing i wish they did was make different color lining , they keep the same old grey insert which turns brown pretty quickly
I bought a Fly Formula CC from RM. I tried all the ones I could not afford and the Shoei was the most comfortable, kinda by far. These are all damned nice helmets, a couple with "clunky" fits for me, but I ended up with the Fly CC because the crash technology was most like the top one. No doubt, I feel solid and safe as you can be in the Formula, though I haven't given it a "good" test yet. Very light helmet to me, too
I just got into riding after many years. I got my Bell Moto 9S flex this summer and considered it light compared to what I used to run. haha. I guess when you dont know you dont know. I found it the safest, best fitting helmet for me. If 3 pounds is a huge deal I would probably get back on the pedal bike.
3lbs isn't a huge deal, but lighter weight is what most companies are going for these days. A heavier helmet doesn't make it any less safe, but a helmet over 3lbs is definitely noticeable compared to others that are 3lbs or less - Chase
Klim: It is interesting that the green tubes that crush, crush only from the top. None start failing from the middle or the bottom. If the wall thickness is not thicker near the bottom, I have no idea how they control that crushing like that.
It crushed like that in the demo because the tubes are welded to each other, and they were uniformly supported on the bottom sitting on a flat surface. They work together to avoid compression. They were met with a concentrated uneven force from above with the curved ball so all the force of the ball was concentrated on a small number of tubes upon impact which was then dispersed through the welded structure to neighbouring tubes and then to the flat surface below. It's not a simulation of a crash - it's a marketing demonstration and not representative of what would happen when you smash your head into a tree.
@@dothetontim Very well said, I read it a few times. The tubes are connected together (welded I guess) all the way up their sides (guessing about 3/4" long), and I understand with your detail a bit better between that test/show (round ball on flat configuration), vs round head in round helmet. But since the tube structure is the same from top to bottom, does that explain why the crushing was only from top down? I can imagine with a head in a helmet after a head hitting crash, many of they can be laid/pushed over at the tops. Good reply man. Thanks. Doug in Michigan
"many of them can be laid/pushed over at the tops. Which would be a Mips system. Heck, wearing a winter stocking cap under the helmet would be a Mips system, or a helmet a bit too big. :)
I have an astars sm10 that I like however the mips liner will ruin quick if you machine wash it several times. It’s just a crappy plastic and synthetic band. Having trouble finding spare liners even on eBay. Needless to say I just bought an answer ar7 hyper carbon because I couldn’t pass up the price for $199 online. Has anyone tried it?
They cant sell them here in America because they are not DOT certified / approved, You can buy them online outside of RockyMountain. Just go with a size bigger. I ride them as well as most of the European riders. As light as Carbon and some with tons of accessories for a fair price.
Great review video as usual. I wish you mentioned the chin straps for each - Klim’s magnetic clasp is awesome compared to Bell’s double loop. Maybe next time 💪
I just got the helmet. Unlatching it is easy, just tug a bit (very light tug), on the red flag. Latching it up with a tight chin strap that barely reaches is a trick, (which is why all the vids use a loose strap that we should not ride with. Hmmmmm). 2 hands don't fit in there. It took me about a 1/2hr total, with a tight enough strap, to figure out how to easily latch it up, with only my left hand. The end of the extra strap end is short enough to tuck all the way into the strap sleeve, so nothing flops around in the wind. Since I found a good method to latch it up, I timed myself. It is a snug helmet to get on and off, so there are a couple seconds there. But I timed, "Put the helmet on. Snap up the strap. Unsnap the strap. Take the helmet off." 12 seconds, first time.

Rocky MTN, use your influence to ask manufacturers to develop more Enduro specific models. In the forest, creeping through the rocks and logs with low air flow, we need big ventilation and vents to release heat. 😀👍
BTW the Klim F3 Carbon "non-pro" is an awesome helmet in its own right. I picked one up this past summer and absolutely love it moving from a Fox V2 and Shoei Hornet X2 for adv riding up at the cottage. At full price I'd spend the extra $100 for the Pro, but the non-pro F3 Carbon can often be had for much much less than MSRP with sales on last year's colors.
love that you mentioned the shoei hornet x2. its the BEST helmet ive ever had. just heavy! but quiet and fits soooo well. may pick up the klim just based off your recommendation
Why doesn't Rocky Mountain sell Airoh helmets many top riders use them and Arai used to be a top tear helmet but they are never in these top lineups either.
Just took a big hit in my Moto-10 Spherical, and sent them the video of the crash along with the pictures of the helmet. Came back saying they would offer 20%. On that note, time to change from Made in China to a Made in Japan (Quality). Debating whether to do Shoei or Arai
It did hold up, but in the footage I sent them, you can see the helmet's sharp Edges get caught up. I can only assume that an Aria's profile would have rolled a lot better. My neck hurt for a whole week afterwards. The 6D ATR-2 or 3 is another great option I personally use @@dakotapettit4544
I have been using aria for years and I have crashed in other helmets and aria on road and off-road . In crazy impacts the arai was way better. I did just get the new Alpinestar m10 carbon, hopefully it's just as protective because it fits awesome
Apart from it weight about the same as a small car it need up dating, raced in an arai shoei and bell moto 9& moto 10 and the moto 10 is easily best out of them
I need one good helmet for competition. I dont care to spend alot on it as it literally is a one time hit throw away item in my eyes. after one good whack it's done. I would like one that is at least convenient with removable pieces so I can wash it. maybe a break away visor that will just pop back on if I dump it down by accident real quick. I just cannot bring myself to spend so much money on a single helmet. some of these helmets are 600 plus dollars why so much. my goodness lol I do appreciate good craftsmanship though. no more black helmets for me. all white or color from here on out. black is just too hot.
Paid 880 for a moto 10....... was absolute trash unless your head is the shape of a bowling ball, literally. And like he said it was CRAZY CRAZY heavy. Tried 2 sizes. It is super light it fits sooooooo much better and its just a better dirt helmet all the way around. Also comes with a spare visor (moto 10 didnt) and it comes with a much better storage bag then the Bell. I promise you the Fly is a better helmet all the way around and its almost 100 less. If you forget all the "smart features" the helmet itself is just the best.... period. The extras are just a plus
I recently got the Fly Formula Carbon. I have Astars M8, 6D ATR2, Leatt 8.5. I think the Fly is the best overall, especially if you ride in the forest with low to no airflow.
I have the bell moto9 and love the fit, tried on the 10 and they definitely went with a different mold for head shape, and I agree, fits terrible. Bought a Fly Formula CP, awesome fit for me, decent price. Tried on the shoei and it felt good but man that’s got a steep price, tried on most of the others and wasn’t impressed with their fit either

Why no 9.5 Carbon from Leatt?
Why no Alpinestars SM8/SM10? I love mine. Won all the championships this year.
He mentioned it at the end.
LEATT 9.5 Carbon is 2.63 lbs. The 360 turbine technology is phenomenal for fit and comfort with great ventilation. Well worth checking out.
I got the SHOEI VFX. its sturdy and comfortable. My skull feels nice n protected, while looking really cool! with the right googles of course.. lol

Alpinestars m10?
I’ve got the 6D ar2 I love it it vents really well and I like the looks of it very comfortable to wear

I’ve always loved Troy Lee Designs for the safety and the art. Shoei is my close second. Bell is third
Shoei you can´t go wrong with, but my son did change to alpinestars supertech s-m10 Carbon this summer and he just loves it.
Do any of these have speaker pockets? Would love one of these helmets for trail riding and use with a Cardo
FLY does
The fox v3 also has speaker cut outs
