Treasure Planet is a 2002 American animated science fiction action-adventure film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. It is a science fiction adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's adventure novel Treasure Island (1883)

"It's a lifelong obsession Jim, I'll get over it." lmfao one of the best movie quotes.
just* a long life obsession but yes
Captain Amelia was really inspiring to me as a kid because I think she was the first female character I'd seen that was a leader and everyone just accepted that she was the captain without her gender being a barrier. The pirates didn't turn against her because she was female, they just wanted the treasure.

Literally EVERYTHING is great about Treasure Planet, the fact that it's so slept on is a crime and I want justice.
Too bad they keep shiting on the movie for the entire video
exept the robot
Literally! The fact when it came out it failed at the box office. If this movie was released today it wouldn't have failed
its kinda boring ethan was into something when he said the movie entire movie was made around pretty concept art but theres not much substance
@@mememagician97That's a wild take, the father son relationship stuff is huge and heavy throughout the movie. To not notice that is crazy
Movies like this masterpiece, flop, while Twilight becomes a billionaire dollar franchise... How does that even work?
Marketing. From what I've heard, this movie was really expensive to make and they already had plans for a sequel. Disney didn't wanna use that kind of money so they intentionally botched this movie's marketing and basically made sure it would flop so there wouldn't be a reason to make a sequel.
Plus it released around the same time as the second Harry Potter movie and people became aware of the home release date patterns of Disney movies. Movie was pretty much set up to fail.
Women
Didnt Twilight have many handsome actors?
theres like 1000 video essays breaking it down. Primarily production issues , poor marketing , not really having the audience for this kinda movie (remember 2002 is the same year they released ice age , air bud and lilo and stitch so they were still very very tame inside the box stuff compared to this) , issues with cg integration that looked worse then all its coutnerparts at the time , the list goes on and on and on , the movie unfortunately was doomed even before release. Not just that but if you take off the nostalgia glasses the writing in this movie is extremely poor , despite it being based on a world famous book that did become a near billion dollar franchise with several adaptions , movies and etc
This movie was basically a thank you to two of the men who kept Disney animation alive for multiple decades, this was their passion project, and Disney went out of their way to kill it by never marketing it.
That's disney for you
STM boys: This film is stupid, boring and ugly.
Comment section: This film is an underrated masterpiece.
I'm with the comment section tbh. The movie has its flaws, robot character is a pretty big one, but I came back to this movie in my late 20s and fell in love with it.
Did anyone actually watch this video?? They just talk over the best parts of the movie about unrelated references and then call it boring in the end???
Yeah I am kinda upset about their shit talking.
It’s cause these guys are idiots who think they’re funny
They do this with every review
If it is not Family Guy they are not actually interested, so don't think too much about it this channel is more about bad jokes and trash talking
Disney's experimental era is, to this day, my favorite. Treasure Planet, Atlantis, Brother Bear, and Dinosaurs were/are a pivotal moment to me, and anytime I'm feeling like life has kicked me to the ground, these movies help inspire me to get up. 100/10 great movie!
I prefer the 2000's disney films over the 2010's disney films, sure not all the films from that decade are hits but i much rather them be experimental than do the same style of films over and over again
You mentioned some awesome films
I wouldn't really count this in with the experimental era of disney. This was a film that two guys really wanted and Disney did literally everything in their power to make it fail. They forced those two to work on project after project for years before finally greenlighting the movie then doing shit all for advertising it's release.
OK but... Dinosaurs? That movie was was the middest of mid
On the one hand I really need more from Atlantis and Brother Bear; they both would probably be in my top ten, top twenty at least (I like a _lot_ of movies).
On the other hand that would likely lead to wringing the concepts dry and trying to produce further, thereby making terrible movies and staining the better ones. (cough cough Alpha and Omega)
Honestly this might be one of Disney's most underrated films. Treasure Planet was ahead of its time. It tackled many adult topics that we didn't fully comprehend when we were kids.
Funny enough, this was the movie that directors John Musker and Ron Clements wanted to make with Disney way earlier, but they said no and had them do Aladdin and Hercules instead. After those were huge hits, then they approved this movie.
And then they pulled the plug on the second movie and the serie. Such a shame
And then Disney made sure to kill the movie before its release so it would flop.
@@shadamyandsonamylover disney wasn't really fair with this movie or its creators.

THIS they literally skipped over Silver's speech to Jim too, I was so sad
The Spilling the Milk boys were definitely having an off day when filming this. Their reaction to Prince of Egypt was really good and it’s a shame they didn’t give an equally amazing film the same attention/respect
For how much they usually gush over good animation, I'm surprised they didn't say anything about the incredible synergy between Silver's 2D and 3D parts
These guys never talk about what they’re watching. They’re just having a completely different conversation spliced between movie clips

@ikaika1 I agree about DGG bruh. That shit had so much potential.
The fact that it took me all this time to realize that this is a space themed re-skin of the book Treasure Island is insane.
Same with Oliver and Company which is a kids' version of Oliver Twist
@@Ignore14 *Some trivia:* At one point in early development, 1988's Oliver & Company was planned as a loose sequel to 1977's The Rescuers. To the best of my knowledge, I don't believe any version of this premise involved Bernard and Miss Bianca returning but the story was set in the same universe and might have referenced them.
The plot would have centered on an older Penny as the main protagonist living with her new adoptive family in NYC after being saved from Madame Medusa. Oliver the kitten was originally more of a secondary character that Penny (much like Jenny Foxworth) would befriend and help save, possibly with help from the Rescue Aid Society.
This narrative never got far enough to flesh out many details, but it's possible that the dog character who would become Dodger was written as a member of the Rescue Aid Socity's New York branch and would have cooperated with Penny alongside other new animal characters. By the end, Penny would've adopted Oliver.
Thematically, this story could have been considered a sort of inverse of The Rescuers with the human leading the mission to save an animal this time. Penny would also carry on the spirit of Bernard & Bianca's example, keeping that cycle of courageous good will going by doing for Oliver what they did for her. It was a sweet concept.
Disney quickly shot the idea down, deciding that this movie would be more marketable to kids with the kitten and dog as its stars. Hence, the final product cut any connections to The Rescuers with Oliver & Dodger becoming the focus while Penny was rewritten into Jenny (Personality-wise, they're practically the same character anyway).
From a business POV, Disney may have simply wanted this film to be sold and succeed as its own thing. After all, Oliver & Company was an ambitious project for its time, not only representing Disney's return to the musical format after seven years but also being their first film to integrate a heavy amount of computer animation.
I read treasure island because of this movie
It feels like you are way too cynical and nitpicky to enjoy this movie.
How Is no one talking about how much they're dissing the movie
Eh bad opinions, what can ya do? Media literacy is dead
Yes lol, all the comments are like "this movie is a gem", "I'm glad you watch it", "this movie is my favorite" and in the video they say that it's boring and there's nothing good about it
Either because they're disregarding wrong opinions, or they didn't watch it and just love the movie.
Or they're confused and saw the thumbnail and title and thought this was a Reddit discussion post.
i see a whole bunch of people talking about how amazing the movie is like they didnt even watch the video like. stm honestly fell off this entire video was a bust none of their jokes were funny and they just kept talking

The movie failed because Disney willingly sabatoged it. Bad marketing and pitting it up against Harry Potter and another Disney movie. It’s the saddest. Love this movie. That being said folks, maybe this channel isn’t the best way to experience it, or check out some people experiencing it for the first time.

Silver's 3D arm animation still holds up over twenty years later.
The fact that this movie is more diverse in representation/topics than any big studio movie today really says something

Why are they still announcing the plushie being available until June 2nd on June 6th?
Funny thing was that this, alongside Prince of Egypt and Spirit, was among my favorire films growing up as a kid. I loved comedy goofy films a lot, but epic films like this grabbed me. In fact, this was the film that got me interested in space and Sci-Fi as a kid, alongside Star Wars.
One thing I really love is the inventive fusion of modern Sci-Fi and Retrofuturism from the 1890's. Space essentially being a Sea of Aeherium (which, fun fact: was what the Ancient Egyptians thought space was. Basically a veritable sea of this substance known as Aether, the fifth elememt that filled the soace between planets and stars in the universe. Basically dark matter or void) being sailed by Victorian era galleons, fitted with rocket boosters and Solar Sails. Black holes formed by collapsing stars, acting like intense whirlpools in the sea. Large artificial moons made as port cities. It was so beautiful and inspiring that it felt like something you can only do in animation or even sci-fi.
