She never saw her own family again, right? Her family moved, but why? And where, and why didn't she go to them after she left her husband?

Beacuse in China, especially in old chinese society . if a girl marries off, it means that she no longer belongs to the famliy , so even she wants to go back and live with them that will not be accepted . Even now in the 21st century in some parts of china, if you get divorced and go back to your parent's house ,you can't stay long. Beacese the people around will spurn you.

It was a common practice for girls especially from poor Chinese families to be either sold off outright or through marriage since they were seen as bringing little value since they didn’t pass on the family name and went to live with their husband’s families. Happened in my own family many generations ago. For a girl a situation like Lindo’s to try to return to her family would have been very disgraceful to their honor so the best Lindo could have done was start a new life independently for herself

This film is mainly in English so you would be totally fine understanding it without subtitles. :)
