- January 2021 saw the release of a new content pack for Dead Cells named Fatal Falls. New lore was introduced in the new biomes of the content pack which helped flesh out some of the background of the events of the story as well as bringing up some questions due to new information not mentioned anywhere else. Let's take some time, compile the information from the Fractured Shrines, the Undying Shores, and the Mausoleum, and summarize it all together!

I certainly think it's possible as well, but there's no information to support that theory! Maybe we'll get an answer in the future, but maybe not! We'll see!

I haven’t tried running Blasphemous on my laptop yet, but if it can run it, that’ll be the next video. Otherwise, it’ll be a while before I can make that!
I’d like to add that in the Undying Shores there are Rune Doors which allow the player to get the Cocoon. This may imply that they have some connection to the runes the Beheaded acquires. It also may imply some connection between the Apostates and the elite enemies, as they guard the runes. This is also supported by the Apostates research in homunculi.
I can imagine the next DLC containing the Lighthouse, at least I really hope so.

Bro, just today the Queen dlc has been informed
There is a lore room in the high peak castle that suggests the origin of the scarecrow through experiments, not sure if I just misinterpreted it when I ran into it but I'm pretty sure that was something you missed
Do you mean the Alchemist lore room mentioning making a man/plant hybrid? If so, that’s referencing the creature seen in the background of the the Green Key room in the Castle.
Otherwise, it must be a lore room that was newly added or one I missed in my dozens of room through it.

The undying shores seem to me like the origin of the Malais.
Or at least, where it bevame the form it is as the plague.
While the base of it, orraw resource,might come the ruins of the shrines and the ancients.
Either way, while we have answerd most questions, and got new ones, were still fully missing out one of the most important ones.
Where did the Malais come from?
And why did it come?
True. Man the lore of this game is more than what is shown explicitly.
One theory I can think of is that maybe the queen is responsible and possibly that lighthouse or somewhere else within the island are responsible for the Malais.
You explain the lore really well and predicted the dlc afterwards with a lot of precision. Very impressive.

Excellent summary but I'm not too sure on your conclusions about the Royal Gardener though. I think the Royal Gardener is simply the guy in the corridor to the Arboretum, evidenced by the letter, the key and the outfit that initially drops on interaction with his mushroom riddled corpse (in addition, his corpse is only ever found there). The standard hanged gardener can appear in PQ, Promenade or Ramparts so he might just be a standard gardener who specialised in flowers.
The Scarecrow however I think is the 'world famous' Botanist (from one of the Mausoleum's biome descriptions), who we first get word of in the Yeeter room in the Arboretum. Whatever her condition, she uses her botanical knowledge to sustain herself through the Shrines and Undying Shores before undergoing a final mutation at the Mausoleum. I guess it was also a good lore point to add in a character who was the source of exotic, foreign flora to the island kingdom that would be tended to by the Royal Gardener and his underlings, and as a potential ingredient of the Malaise.
Guess that's why I like the lore of this game, it's sufficiently vague enough to reach different conclusions on the main events (the origin of the Malaise, the motivations of the King etc).

I'd be interested to know why you think the "world famous botanist" and the Royal Gardener are not one and the same. While it's not explicitly confirmed they are the same person, it is heavily implied. There's also the note in the new room in the Arboretum where someone, presumably the Botanist/Gardener, writes "I'm alive again", presumably hinting at the fate of the Gardener. When you take into account that the body in the Prisoner's Quarters that holds the Arboretum key disappears after picking it up, it definitely hints that they are the Gardener.
@@SquatchGamingChannel I've been flying through on 5BSC so I might be missing a few details (when I actually live long enough). Definitely will go through a few runs on safer difficulties to see if I've missed any details, or made assumptions based on missing information. The initial bit of evidence that led me to believe that the gardener and the botanist are two different people is that yeeter room which you've got starting at 10:26.
"By the King's command, you are to burn the entire Arboretum down until nothing is left but cinders."
"And ignore the gardener's protestations... he is no longer under the Crown's protection."
This sounds to me as if the original orders addressed to the royal gardener implied in the letter from the PQ Arboretum corridor were ignored (why would an order stating to ignore the gardener be addressed to the gardener), so a second person was given the order that he refused, with the subtle warning that failing those orders would mean similar revocation of royal protection.
The way I took that letter was a decree from the King to his soldiers, not to any one person in particular, due to the fact that there are other orders scattered around the island; although, I suppose it could have been directed to one person. Without having someone named, I guess we'll never know! Lol.
@@SquatchGamingChannel Yep thinking on it as well, I think that room is just where one of the soldiers had his final stand while trying to carry out the orders that the Royal Gardener failed at. Those same telltale mushrooms at the Undying shores lore snippet at 13:18 seem to suggest that it is the Royal Gardener (my RNG for this has been terrible so far). I suppose the other reason is that key lore characters are introduced as "The - Insert Proper Noun here -' ".
I'm keen to see how/if they expand the lore further now that we have a Queen and a distant light house.
As stupid as it seems, god damn I feel like the queen is somehow very closely related to the scarecrow/gardener. The relief/stained glass in the mausoleum itself and one or two of the loading screens really hinting at a thing or two going on. I do, however, agree that the lighthouse we see in undying shores is the key to the mystery. On a side note, while another content pack would answer this well, I just feel like we can't have too many more, if any more at all, from a simple gameplay angle. If another biome is added between, say, 2nd boss and HOTK, it would be difficult to work the lore questions raised by fatal falls into it without adding a boss at the end of this area and breaking the standard ' formula ' of dead cells. In addition, adding more early game biomes would, in my opinion, give the player too much choice. As the game currently stands, a single DLC wraps nicely with the 2-3 biomes presented by the base game, with a door here and there being effective enough to incorporate these biomes. However, another biome on top of these 3-4 just feels a little crammed, with consequences potentially being really, really crammed in-between biome areas which would just leave many base game biomes overlooked. I think there is a way, however. Incorporating a post 2nd boss area with an alternative final boss at the end would be very interesting gameplay wise, and would be an excellent way of answering our questions. Oh well. That's what I just think, and I'm not an expert, am I? Motion twin are the experts, and if we know one thing about them, they're pretty damn good at making things work.
Imagine if the source of the plague comes from the queen and her reason for doing it is because she was bored

Yknow. With the DLC in hindsight. The king isnt nearly ss big a sperg as thought. Sure he's still an asshole. But hes slowly grown into a more n more understandable & even relatable character. I really dig how the more of his character we learn. The more we realise, he was mostlynjust overwhelmed & unready. What a great game that manages to continuously retell what was seemingly finished years ago. I love this game.

Can't wait for the queen and the sea video to come out although I'm sure there'll still be a few months before it happens since the DLC only came out the other day
Not months; weeks - maybe early February. The DLC itself didn't actually add too much lore-wise (I haven't gotten any lore rooms in the Infected Shipwreck, and haven't seen anyone else get any either), so there's not a lot more stuff to add on top of things we could already conclude based on what was there.
The DLC video will pretty much be compiling all the things that have been hinted at over the course of the year and presenting it all. There's some blanks I'm going to have to fill in (like did the King get transformed first? Or the Queen?), so it may not be *100% accurate*, but I'll do my best! :)

I recently found a Lore Room on High Peak Castle with big pictures of the Queen and the King, with a very messy room that looks like someone escaped in a rush. I would love for the Queen to appear in a future update, maybe as a boss.

There are lore rooms in the Morass of the Banished that suggests that the gardener also went there and got some help from the locals of the Morass

So, as always I’m more interested on the King, the Dead Cell(?). He was a human before and tried to manage the plague, making many inhumane or disagreeable decisions that in the end meant nothing but a slower decay of his kingdom. After his death by the malaise he was brought back as a homunculy which lacked memory and lacked some human emotions such as compassion as well as having lost his body and now having to possess other bodies, and in turn gained immortality and immunity to diseases such as the malaise.
It’s funny to me since I’m a Bleach fan and his new self reminds me of Hollow Ichigo. Not that I’ll say spoilers but i just love characters like that. Especially when they have personality and are funny.
I have a question, the snakes found in fractured shrines wield a special weapon that enables teleportation the blueprint of which is found in the cavern. Which also has special stones the king mined.
Is there any significance to this? Why is a weapon wielded by those in the air found deep underground?
Also there seems to be significant nods to crows, slammers and the crow skull in the arboretum as well as crows in the shrines. As well as the crow room in the Astrolab.
i cant help but wonder if the queen is the boss we find in the next dlc. maybe in the lighthouse we find out that she never had the malaise and she used it as a curse to usurp the king and fights the beheaded beacause she knows we are the king
That's what it seems to be building up to. I wonder if there is going to be more lore rooms periodically added in that aren't part of a DLC that are going to expand on that plot thread.

The game still needs two more pieces of DLC. We have three so far addition to the main game which explain to us so far the story but I would hope that we get two more DLCs that explain where the true origin of the malice came from, explaining whether it was actually the sap or the contaminated water or perhaps even a combination of both in addition to the use of magic maybe it was done an attempt to create something that would make the kingdom Immortal and they got their wish just in a way that they did not want because if you are Undead you are technically immortal. also the truth of the Ancients who originally settled the island in long days pass, were they perhaps responsible for the reason why the islands genetics and general magical energies were changed in such a weird and disturbing way when the king decided to start allowing his counsel to do experiments. These are all vital questions that need answering people otherwise the Scrolls of truth will never be complete

What’s with the skull on the table in one of the lore rooms that looks “familiar?”
I almost mentioned that the Beheaded needs to have headless bodies in order to possess them and that the skull was from the very first body they possessed (it's very clearly not the King's body as that still has a head), but poking around on the interwebs, it's apparently an Easter Egg to a game that the Beheaded crossed over in named Skul: The Hero Slayer

I reckon it's the Beheaded vaguely recognising the dead guys in the lore room as the King's men that stayed behind to investigate further while the rest returned to the castle with the Alchemist with their pillaged data.

So the alchemist used king to create behead because he was the only one whose spirit and body was in one so he used king with the help of sickness thats why everybody thinks sickness made king behad but it was not the sicknes it was the alchemist is that right? Pls reply.

I will be honest I dunno about the king being the headless. I mean from a story writing aspect. Wouldn't it have made more sense for it to be the last ditch effort of the Alchemist? I mean the dude has been everywhere all over the kingdom. The headless saying 'huh i think I remember this' in places the king would have never gone made me think it was.
Sadly not the truth, eh. All well.
If it makes you feel better, I was watching a Developer Stream, and they said something like, “People asked us if we had the whole story plotted out when we started, and honestly, we had no freakin clue!”

Hmmm.... Could someone list all the informations we got about the queen?
The only other thing that I've seen is that in one of the lore rooms of the Arboretum, the one with the fancy couches, one of the couches is labelled "Queen's couch" or something like that in the game's files. There was a Reddit thread that I saw that speculated that the Gardener and the Queen were romantically involved (because of the couch and that the Beheaded remarks "Looks like the Gardener had his own way into the castle" or something like that when inspecting the other couch), and that may have been one reason the King went insane. I didn't mention it cause it's not mentioned or hinted at in the lore we do have, and also wasn't my idea/theory. We'll just have to wait and see if a future content update gives more information!

This humonculus on the wall in mauselum Looks like it has a flame for it's head. Not flesh like our King. It always bothered that in the trailers the protagonist has flame as a head instead of flesh. What if the Queen is the fire headed protagonist? Could there be 2 of them?

Working on it now! I'm only a one-man team, so it'll take some time to make. I'm thinking the video will come out early February, maybe earlier if everything goes PERFECT, but I don't see that happening. Lol. But I am working on it! :)

@@thatdudethat7824 The homunculus can posses female bodies, and even if the homunculus was at first the king, he doesn´t rememeber this and i doubt you can consider the homunculus "male"
