I sat this model for a while. My GOAT watch is the GW-5000-1JF so the lack of functions put me off. However, I love my squares so I got the 5040. I absolutely do not regret it. It kinda got me wearing my DW5600 again. This watch is BEAUTIFUL!
I collected my watch from G-Shock London yesterday. I have no remorse. This watch looks stunning and the gold accents, metallurgy, screw case, heavier feel exudes quality. I don’t want solar, MB6 or anything that detracts too much from the original 1983. This was also made in Japan. Overall, I think this anniversary edition has been carried out sympathetically and the price point at retail is reasonable (although I would have preferred better packaging).
I own the 5040 and it is the most beautiful G-Watch, I don’t care about the features, I just love it and it just looks great! It is special for sure 👌 I will keep it for ever ❤
I love it. I’ve been wearing it 2 weeks straight. This is definitely special. It’s limited edition, as time goes on these will be impossible to get. All the little details make it so cool. That gold dial just makes it pop. I really don’t care if it has solar or mb, it’s an homage to the original and the original didn’t have that stuff.
Supposedly they are really accurate as well. Like 1 second a month. It’s the best looking G shock and 40th anniversary collection piece and you can wear it everyday and it will still look like new in 6 years…I know because my 35th anniversary has been used a lot and it looks like new pretty much. You don’t have to baby these things as the straps don’t get damaged by pretty much anything and that goes for the resin case as well. You have to really gouge it on something sharp with serious force and abrasion to actually put a permanent mark on these…They aren’t like a stainless steel watch that gets a ding just from coming into contact with another object!
This watch is 100% worth it to me! The feel of it the look the top quality materials and the way it wears on my wrist is perfect. I know if you keep the watch in great shape the price will only go up. In two three years watch collectors that didn't pick this up will want it! Love this watch!
Agreed, I didn’t buy it to sell and make money, but the closer you look and the longer you have this watch the better it looks. Simple, elegant, and a true hidden gem.
I love it. I got mine from The Bay at 35% off! (CADS) The Bay is such a great source for ''special'' G-SHOCKS and 15-25-35% sales happen on a regular basis. Cheers, MC

Looks killer! I think it’s a cash grab, but I don’t hold that against them. It’s great to have a commemorative piece from such a huge anniversary. I say wear it on occasion, like it’s a Watch priced like it is, and enjoy your time with it!
Great review thank you. I had a DW-5000ML 20th anniversary with the red vampire sunburst screen, bought as a reward to myself when I enlisted in the army. It had such a utilitarian yet funky feel to it(thanks to the solid screw caseback weight as well as the sunburst screen). Price wise was 2 to 3 times the regular DW5600, but never felt the price wasn't worth it. Wore the hell out of it, in and out of service and replaced bezel and strap twice till finally getting rid of it.(not knowing any better back then) and "progressed" as a young ignorant adult in watch collection with other brands, luxury or otherwise. With my humble limited watch collection experience, a G shock should be worn as it should be, a beater. That's how one can get the most joy out of it. The price difference imho is justified, just for the "subtle" cosmetic differences compared to a regular cheaper model. 20 yrs on and seeing Gshock launch this 40th anniversary model brings back so many great memories and feels - wearing a square model that was as rugged as the ones my peers owned, but had differences that made it unique. It greatly enhanced my experience of wearing it in comparison with a cheaper regular model of the same specs. The feeling, can't really be described as it is really subjective. You'll know it if you know it😊. Its currently sold out where I am but your review and discussion strengthened and renewed my conviction. I will be getting one off a friend who found it too beautiful and costly to wear it daily, infact he didn't wear it at all after buying😂. Intend to wear it daily and make the best of it!
I'm all for beating on any Gshock but I confess that I wear mine like I would my more premium mechanical watches. But then again I have a lot of other gshocks to take a beating.
Love that I can see you fall in love with it as the video went on. Personally I don't think it's a cash grab, it's merely offering alternatives to the more well-heeled Casio lover. I own multiple Casios, from the F91W to an MRB B3000, and love that they can appeal to all users on the spectrum. Whilst functionally no different from a GMW B5000, I love that they have different materials, and in the case of this recrystallised version, they experiment more. These 40th celebration editions are going to be nice items to have, both to wear and to collect. And I don't begrudge Casio for offering these. For those who might or do not want to spend on them, there are plenty of alternatives within the brand.
It's special if you think it is special. It's worth it if you think it is worth it. It's a purchase from the heart, not the head. BTW - They are still available on the Casio website. Just bought mine :)
I’d say keep it, better to have because if you regret parting with and want it back then it really will be a cash grab price. Like you after the disappointment of the box the first thing one noticed was the weight, compared with my DW-5600C which has a screw back it feels heavy, oddly it even feels more bulky than my Titanium MRG-B5000D, it weighs less but feels more, maybe because the weight isn’t spread evenly. Never been able to grab any of the previous anniversaries so nice to have one finally in the collection.
The finishing on the buckle, strap keeper and case back remind me of machinery and tooling from the 1950's and 60's that I'd see in school and at my old job.
It's called knurled iirc, it's a very cool finish that I prefer over just mirror gloss Edit: My mistake I think they're the same as Galvanized steel upon closer inspection
I think this one is for G shock collectors specifically. I have an edifice and a gstb100 both solar with Bluetooth. The square with tough solar multiband etc is a great watch and i would happily get it over this. But, my next one wil be oceanus..
It really is a beautiful watch. I wish it came with the 5000u movement and I really think if the strap hardware was black like the case back it would be an amazing watch
@halfpastblog just got mine in and I gotta say, this thing is great! It has way more presence than my 5000u and the color is great. Definitely a watch where if you hold it all your worries about it go away. It's an excellent watch
This watch is for the collectors and the faith full. For us Murican's its $300 USD so it's a bit more palatable in price but still not cheap for what it offers. I have one of these it arrive earlier this week, and as as G-shock collector it was a must have. I was too young in 1983 to have the OG square, so this is as close as it gets for an original "replica" Now bear in mind this is as close to the original as Casio has come to date, with the exception of the gold coloring and the Iluminator and project team tough text, to the original. It has a "Gold" colored steel core, and that sort of justifies the price increase, not to mention the treatment to the steel. Yes its not tough solar or Bluetooth but that's not the point. The point is that this is as close to original as we can get in 40 years. And if you love G-shocks and collect them $300 USD is a reasonable price to pay. Casio could of easily charged more and the faithful would have still paid what Casio asked. We are lucky to have one so just enjoy it and if your worried about damaging the plastic, swap it out for a another equivalent square's plastic and keep the original in the box.
I bought the 35th Anniversary version. It's a recreation of the 1983 DW5000C- 1B The same watch yours refers to only the PROTECTION G-SHOCK is in dark yellow along with the trim on the crystal. The only real differences between mine and the new version is the colors and the case back and hardware are a polished Gold rather than the Recrystallized finish. I've had ine five years now, I wear it often and it's held up really well. They are beautiful watches and I won't be parting with mine any time soon.
I have the 35th also. The golden screen is more Golden on the 40th and the black case back is a major difference as well. The bands are slightly different materials and the golden keepers on both are the different golds. I think the brick pattern on the 35th has a slightly maroon tint color where the 40th is more black bricks with little accents. The screen of the 40th has a more red white gold and blue colorful pop and the 35th is a more subtle watch. Both are awesome 👏
Help me choose! My first G-Shock was a DW-6600 when I was a soldier, but I eventually lost it. A few years later I got the basic DW-5600E which is pretty roughed up at this point and I haven't worn it in years. I just had my 40th birthday and was thinking of buying a watch... so I was pretty excited to find out about this 40th Anniversary collection with the "since 1983" text. I can't decide between the DW6640RE (similar to my first one), the GMWB5000PS-1 (more appropriate for the occasion, although I would rarely wear it), or this DW5040PG which is somewhere in the middle.
I have lots of G shocks, I like the watch I like all the gold touches especially the gold display, I can understand why it’s a homage to the original G shock but i just don’t know why they didn’t include tough solar & multiband 6 for accurate time keeping.
Being a Casio collector since 1974 with the Casiotron 01-501 and 1983 with the G-Shock, DW-5000-C which in collection is hundreds of timepieces with all anniversary models. Of course this 40th has to be added, simply amazing with the recrystallised color. When will all of this end?, hopefully never. We just love this addiction and obsession!!! Thanks for your review. OAK
I just picked this watch few hours back!! I am thinking just like you! I am from Bangalore, India. I had the 35th edition and sold it cheap like an idiot not knowing what I did! but this is good to keep and use and yes it has value as long as we keep the box, bills and the papers - never know some would want this after say 5 years!!
This thing is a beauty for all who love this g-shock type. Is it expansive for a basic g-shock? Jep. But there are a lot of watches for collectors and fans with less funktions and ten times the price from other brands. So if you are a fan and it makes you happy, it is woth the price with ease. It would hit me with the old rangeman, not a perfect watch but damn close. I wear one and rarely take it off for what so ever. If I could afford it I would buy a spacial edition and hope there will be a further generation (as not smartwatch) just because it is such a great time piece.
Don't be on the fence, it's a fantastic collector's piece. Try and get the 35th anniversary model - it's amazing, and they're very different. I don't wear the anniversary models, they are display pieces for me, because I enjoy the aesthetics so much. Absolutely keepers!
I was super excited awaiting the 40th release. However, like many I was surprised by the packaging and eco route on this particular piece. They could’ve just done a 5600 eco collection and kept this one similar to previous anniversary editions with tins (which are all recyclable). It’s only one release like this every 5 years. I ended up finding a 35th anniversary new and absolutely love it.
I bought my DW5000 in 1987 and loved it, and still have it. I could never find a g shock to replace it - until now. I wanted the brick pattern, I wanted a simple module, I wanted a positive display with a red stripe and I really wanted an all metal case. When I saw this announced, I had to buy and I love it. Oh yeah, the greenish gold face/dial is awesome along with the recrystalized pieces. This is way better than the original.
People dont have to buy it. Frankly, i was in the carnaby street store in London, the morning they arrived and picked it jp. Love it Its not the most expensive g shock ive bought
It's a special model for entusiasts and collectors, fact! Looks killer, but it's superestimated... Paying less, you can buy a GW-B56001BC, with combi bracelet, BT e MultiBand 6, the best buy for your money. But... this is an historical model! And the others... are the others.
Special thing about this G, is that it will cost 2 or 3 times more when you want to resell it in few years. Easy money. It is, just you said, a display piece. Keep it mint, as an investment.
very nice review!!! i just picked up the 5610U but i'm so tempted to return it and get the DW-5040PG-1. I'm a little torn and maybe you can help. I love so much about the 5610U, looks, functionality, module specs, solar and multiband. It's got a ton going for it and i can't stop staring. Totally brings me back to childhood but with modern flair. But i really really really dont like how its viewing angle is so limited. I like glancing at my watch for time, but i find i have to have it angled very specifically to read anything. I'm between 2 notches on the band, one is kinda tight and the other is loose enough that i have to move the watch with one hand to get it out from under my sleeve. Both get old quickly. I'm not sure it its the caseback, but i wouldn't say it feels amazing on the wrist or that i can wear it all day no prob. It irritates eventually. I keep trying both slots to see if it breaks in better and hasn't. The DW-5040PG-1looks stunning. I love the gold screen and having the brickwork more prominent. With so many square's looking similar, i really like that this is traditional yet stands out as unique. Do you think this model has a wider range of viewing angles than the 5610U? would its screw caseback be more comfortable? Even if the band leave me between notches, maybe the caseback would make it feel better overall. I can live with it lacking solar (but it is cool) and i can always manually adjust the time with other multiband watches. But I do wish it had both. I don't use world time a ton but it sure is nice when you do, so I'd eventually miss that too. I think it's looks keep bringing me back to want this, but i would miss some of the 5610's tech. If it is better to see time at more angles, and feels better on the wrist, it might be for me. But if its the same bad viewing angle and fit it similar, i guess i should stick with the 5610. Any feedback on these questions is much appreciated and I'd love to hear your thoughts on if you think i'd like this 40th better than the 5610 based on my comments. Thanks for a great video and your time!
Thanks for writing. I actually love both. One is very utilitarian and feature rich and the other looks amazing. If I could only have one it's probably the 5610 due to the features and price. I'm not sure about viewing angles. I will have to compare and get back to you. Sorry for the late reply.
My 5610 started to grow on me the more I wore it. Modded out with bull bars and Zulu 2 piece strap from Jays and Kays, and now it’s on my wrist most of the time.
I ordered mine but doesn’t come in until Tuesday. Do you know the lug size for the strap? Cuz I want to get a different band for it. Thanks in advance.
If they had upgraded the module with MB6, Solar and BT and the new fade-in/out led light (yeah, i like the new light better than the EL), it would be so much better. I love the rough look and the golden like display. But presenting a basic module and selling it as "back to basic" while charging top money is a straight up cash grab. Much love to Casio though, they've made great watches (own a couple of G's and regulars Casio's for years now) .
Totally think they should have put their best module forward since they are showing off 40 years of refinement, not just throw in the most basic one. Maybe should have even used the "Move" display as well. This is all bling without any of the functionality, which would be good for a basic watch that's under $50.
Great question. The extra bright light necessary for a clear video picture combined with the limitations of my camera accentuate it. It has a sunburst look to it in person but doesn't cast the same shadows in real life. I'm going to do a follow up video to try and address this and other questions..
I think there are two types of G-Shock collectors: those who put them in a glass case and those who slap 'em on their wrist and leave the house. I almost pulled the trigger on this but realised I fall into the latter category. Great watch though.
I really prefer your every day beater, because of that reason. A Gshock should be an everyday beater. That said it is a sweet watch which could be worn on occasions. But I’ll stick to the “normal” Gshocks
I bought this. It will stay in my case with the tags on it. It is a nice watch, but is just for my collection. The box is junk and actually ripped when I removed the watch.
Honestly, I like the GSET Dw 5030 better, it's more similar to the original DW 5000C, more faithful to the watch made in the 80s, and I prefer the classic screwback, that is with a silver color, that looks like pure steel. Nothing premium with these classic G Shock, it is better that they evoke us their original essence, made for workers and people with rough occupations, just as they were originally intended. And definitely I prefer the original watches made in the 80s, which had better modules and generally better quality: DW 5000C, DW 5200C, DW 5600C, DW 5700C, etc.
Since you asked, I think there’s a lot to like, and just as much not to like. I love the bricks, the red border and the gold screen. If they had stopped there I would think it was perfect, and a truly special must-have anniversary edition watch. But they didn’t stop there, I can’t stand the recrystalized clasp and keeper. I also think the stars on the buttons look cheap and cheesy. The caseback is, fine, I guess. It’s like they had a price in mind, and just kept adding content and “uniqueness” until they felt it justified the price they wanted to charge. Less would have been more with this one.
You may have a point. In person it does look cool (buckle etc) but isn't needed. I'd rather have multiband 6. And not that it matters but only one button has a star,if that elevates it's appeal at all. 😉
This thing is stunning. That case back and screen are amazing. If I had some extra cash I would buy it and not look back. But, we're trying to build a house and this has divorce written all over it lol.
To me the 40th isn't worth it. I have the 35th anniversary that I paid $148 new at the time of release. I think Casio put more effort into the watch and packaging back then. The 40th is a cash grab and a joke to make it seem like they're doing something good for the environment by being "green" with a very limited run of watches lol. Also if you do your research on recycled materials they often don't last as long as virgin materials do. So time will tell if these have premature band and bezel rot in the future.
I bet those are going for a lot more than $148 now. I'm going to have to look into that, you know, just for coriosity sake. Not to feed the addiction. True. I wonder how these new bathes will hold up. I can vouch for the quality look and feel though
@@halfpastblog I mean honestly with the packaging alone the price should be around $200 instead given the fact that it's just paper. At $200 I definitely would've bought one.
I was really exited about this one. For some reason I had assumed it was going to be tough solar. Once I saw there was no solar and the calendar in this module is only good until 2039 I was having serious doubts. In the end I decided to forgo this release. Hopefully the missing out remorse won’t hit me too hard further down the line. No bones about it though, it’s a great looking watch and I hope you enjoy it.
I got one and I love it , will be also buying the gold one. I love it so much I almost want a second one in case one gets damaged. lol l know it’s a g shock and it will be ok
In a practical sense, it’s not worth it. But to a collector it might be priceless. Personally, I would not buy it, for the cost and lack of solar, atomic time and the usual features of more recent Casio G-Shock squares.
If you can't bring it to yourself in wearing it. Why not buy 2 of them. One for wearing and 2nd for admire? Like bruh. Just wear it and enjoy it. Life to short to be fussy over the small stuff. Of course if you want to sell it. And become a flipper. That's a whole different conversation. Watch just a tool. Granted some can become jewellery status. Just use them and enjoy it while it lasts.
At this time, it’s only a cash grabs because it should be module with an auto calendar up to 2099 and also looking at my GWM5610-1ER. I would say Solar and Multiband 6 is way better, or even better just like my GW5000U. I already commented to Casio Gshock. So for me it’s a big pass.
GShock truly know how to rake in money. They offer sparing improvements on various models without offering them all on the same one. Iterative improvements at exorbitant prices for what they truly are. The functions are so basic it's hard to justify US$100 for some of them. But this? No, it is a cash grab. If you see what's inside of these and how little time it takes to put them together, you will question why you spent as much on it. To me personally it makes far more sense to move to a legitimate timepiece instead of a novelty digital display. I can wear it to work and not feel kind of like a kid.
Great review, bad watch. The brick illustration on the front reminds me of the cheap video game watches that took a generic watch and slapped some stickers of whatever game they licensed. I can’t blame Casio though since there are people willing to overpay.
I have a 5610 and the 35th anniversary square DW-5035D. Don’t remember what I paid but I think it was ~$200 USD I know the anniversary model doesn’t have tough Solar or multi band 6 but it feels much more premium and looks beautiful. I think $200 USD makes more sense but I am still considering this 40th anniversary square.
Been daily driving this one for a couple of days now. I just started collecting Casios (and watches) in general a month ago. After I picked up a Casio privia px-s7000 and then just went on a deep on Casio nerdiness. Bought a 5000u, then a colorful new boo, and now I am 6 watches in..... These Casios are fucking awesome. They represent everything I ever hated about the watch game. I see myself grabbing quite a few more and eventually an mr-g to daily drive when it makes sense to. Love Casio goddamn.
I sat this model for a while. My GOAT watch is the GW-5000-1JF so the lack of functions put me off. However, I love my squares so I got the 5040. I absolutely do not regret it. It kinda got me wearing my DW5600 again. This watch is BEAUTIFUL!
This is such a funky yet understated g-shock. I’m swooned by that display and the gold touches too
I'm loving it.
I’m wearing mine now. I wear it 90% of the time. I have a 5000u as well. It’s a great watch. Something about the 5040 is just….special.
Agreed!
I collected my watch from G-Shock London yesterday. I have no remorse. This watch looks stunning and the gold accents, metallurgy, screw case, heavier feel exudes quality. It really does look and feel great, doesn't it?
I also got mine in London yesterday (Carnaby Street) 😎
Love the concept, the color, the collection aspect of the watch, glad I picked one up before they sell out!
Right on!
Me too, I had given up on this watch and bought a GWG-2000 instead. Then found one in a random Macy’s.
I own the 5040 and it is the most beautiful G-Watch, I don’t care about the features, I just love it and it just looks great! It is special for sure 👌 I will keep it for ever ❤
Good choice!

I sae that sale! Almost bought another. 😂

I'm definitely leaning that way. I've grown attached to it already. No regrets.
Nice looking with the gold accents.
Simple to use.
Some of those watches are just too complicated to use.
I think it's a winner
Right on. 👍
I don't know how tough solar and MB6 is complicated... It's automatic....
Great review thank you. I had a DW-5000ML 20th anniversary with the red vampire sunburst screen, bought as a reward to myself when I enlisted in the army. With my humble limited watch collection experience, a G shock should be worn as it should be, a beater. That's how one can get the most joy out of it. I'm all for beating on any Gshock but I confess that I wear mine like I would my more premium mechanical watches. But then again I have a lot of other gshocks to take a beating.

That's the beauty of the raw unboxing video. I've been wearing it non stop since I got it, if that communicates anything.
I absolutely love mine. Every time I wear it, I just stare at it. Definitely keep it, they're already going up in price pretty good
It's special if you think it is special. It's worth it if you think it is worth it. It's a purchase from the heart, not the head. BTW - They are still available on the Casio website. Just bought mine :)
I agree. I love it and wear it.
It's a great watch for Casio G-Shock fans! As it is, i'm more than happy with my GWM5610U
I need one of those!
Totally agree: have over 20+ GW-M5600/5610(U)...
Yes, I love the weight and the way it feels on wrist. I'd be happy to have the metal module case in all my gshock
The finishing on the buckle, strap keeper and case back remind me of machinery and tooling from the 1950's and 60's that I'd see in school and at my old job.
It's called knurled iirc, it's a very cool finish that I prefer over just mirror gloss
Edit: My mistake I think they're the same as Galvanized steel upon closer inspection
Oh yeah! That's right!
@@tydshiin5783 I love the look as well. Definitely something you don't see much of.
I think this one is for G shock collectors specifically. I have an edifice and a gstb100 both solar with Bluetooth.
The square with tough solar multiband etc is a great watch and i would happily get it over this. But, my next one wil be oceanus..
I need to check out Oceanus soon. 👍
It really is a beautiful watch. I wish it came with the 5000u movement and I really think if the strap hardware was black like the case back it would be an amazing watch
I'd love to see that movement in it. And I'd love to see that black finish on a full metal watch
I was too young in 1983 to have the OG square, so this is as close as it gets for an original "replica"
Now bear in mind this is as close to the original as Casio has come to date, with the exception of the gold coloring and the Iluminator and project team tough text, to the original.
Swapping the bezel is a fantastic idea actually. We'll played! 👍👍👍👍
@@halfpastblog Thanks!
Definitely hold on to that gem. 👍👍
I don't know where you are located but the 5610 is on sale on Amazon Canada for $99.
6640re
I have lots of G shocks, I like the watch I like all the gold touches especially the gold display, I can understand why it’s a homage to the original G shock but i just don’t know why they didn’t include tough solar & multiband 6 for accurate time keeping.
I got an email from Casio this morning saying it was available so I bought it lol. Can't wait to get it 🙏🏼
Being a Casio collector since 1974 with the Casiotron 01-501 and 1983 with the G-Shock, DW-5000-C which in collection is hundreds of timepieces with all anniversary models. Of course this 40th has to be added, simply amazing with the recrystallised color. When will all of this end?, hopefully never. We just love this addiction and obsession!!! Thanks for your review. OAK
That's a collection I'd love to see! Are you on Instagram?
I just picked this watch few hours back!! I am thinking just like you! I am from Bangalore, India. I had the 35th edition and sold it cheap like an idiot not knowing what I did! but this is good to keep and use and yes it has value as long as we keep the box, bills and the papers - never know some would want this after say 5 years!!
I'm definitely wearing and enjoying mine a lot. Enjoy!
You make too much sense. This is the internet. Stop it.
Looks like you have fallen into the Casio rabbit hole 😂. Keep the the watch as it is special something to leave the kids😂.
Thanks Alton
Are you kidding? I'm going to be buried with my watches. 😂
Don't be on the fence, it's a fantastic collector's piece. Try and get the 35th anniversary model - it's amazing, and they're very different. I don't wear the anniversary models, they are display pieces for me, because I enjoy the aesthetics so much. Absolutely keepers!
I've been wearing it since I got it so that's my answer I think. I def want to track down previous models.
I am going to see if I can track down some older anniversary models. Sounds like they were more reasonably priced.
It’s the gold color display that’s the biggest selling point. If they have this on other standard black squares I’d be all over it.
I think your duality of thoughts around the watch would apply to most, its beautiful but very expensive...
Hold on to that 1987 forever! 👍👍👍
People dont have to buy it.
Frankly, i was in the carnaby street store in London, the morning they arrived and picked it jp.
Love it
Its not the most expensive g shock ive bought
Nobody has to buy anything. We can all agree on that. 👍
I think you should keep it, looks great 😎
Noted!
It's a special model for entusiasts and collectors, fact! Looks killer, but it's superestimated... Paying less, you can buy a GW-B56001BC, with combi bracelet, BT e MultiBand 6, the best buy for your money. But... this is an historical model! And the others... are the others.
Well said
Special thing about this G, is that it will cost 2 or 3 times more when you want to resell it in few years. Easy money. It is, just you said, a display piece. Keep it mint, as an investment.
For some reason I can't stop wearing it.
@@halfpastblog I don't blame you. It is beautiful piece.
very nice review!!! i just picked up the 5610U but i'm so tempted to return it and get the DW-5040PG-1.
I have a 5610 and I couldn't justify paying this amount for a watch with less functionality.
Yup!
Solo por la caja roscada 😅
I agree: I'd rather find a nice GW-M5630.
My 5610 started to grow on me the more I wore it. Modded out with bull bars and Zulu 2 piece strap from Jays and Kays, and now it’s on my wrist most of the time.
@@mr.b.4048 You should try a GW-M5600. Only downside: MB5. Nice strange feature: 1000hr stopwatch.
I ordered mine but doesn’t come in until Tuesday. Do you know the lug size for the strap? Cuz I want to get a different band for it. Thanks in advance.
It utilizes a standard square size. Unfortunately it isn't easy to replace
Yes. Should be a $199 watch tops
All those changes would definitely add value 👍
Too own a screwback G Shock is to be a true fan.I have the DW5735.
Awesome review, bro.Great watch one day I'll be able to afford one.
Thanks a lot!
Just ordered one. It's worth it I think.
Totally think they should have put their best module forward since they are showing off 40 years of refinement, not just throw in the most basic one. Maybe should have even used the "Move" display as well. This is all bling without any of the functionality, which would be good for a basic watch that's under $50.
Their reasoning is the original is basic so this is too. But ya... I'd rather a modern module.
Let me know what you think!
Does the sunburst lcd look in person the same as it appears at 4:30?
I mean is that strange light/shadow pattern visible to the real eye?
Great question. The extra bright light necessary for a clear video picture combined with the limitations of my camera accentuate it. It has a sunburst look to it in person but doesn't cast the same shadows in real life. I'm going to do a follow up video to try and address this and other questions..
Much appreciated
I think there are two types of G-Shock collectors: those who put them in a glass case and those who slap 'em on their wrist and leave the house. I almost pulled the trigger on this but realised I fall into the latter category. Great watch though.
Ya.. A bit pricy to destroy. Especially when the "value" is in the aesthetics and not the function. Weird to say of a G-shock
I really prefer your every day beater, because of that reason. A Gshock should be an everyday beater. That said it is a sweet watch which could be worn on occasions. But I’ll stick to the “normal” Gshocks
The wise financial decision to be sure!
It's definitely a keeper. Enjoy. 😊
Thanks very much!
Beautiful watch
Casio is the best. Love and respect for this Japanese company.
👍👍
Nice review. Let me know if you ever want to sell it.
Thanks! Gshock.ca seems to have them in stock last time I checked. Time to buy them up and begin my life as a scalper.
@@halfpastblog lol
it looks very cool. if you like it and can pay for it . definitely worth it
👍👍👍
Sunburst dial? That is cool, but it doesn't look very easy to see. Excellent review!
Thanks!
Great looking watch but I even found the metal Gs too much. I get an anniversary edition being more. Looks great
You can metal G for fifty more on sale at the Bay three times a year. 😮
@@halfpastblog the bay is the best
So many deals if you keep an eye out.
I bought this. It will stay in my case with the tags on it. It is a nice watch, but is just for my collection. The box is junk and actually ripped when I removed the watch.
Yikes!
Muy guapo, pero me sigo quedando con mi gw5000u the best
It’s heavy and I like it but I don’t like the gold accents (I have one)
Honestly, I like the GSET Dw 5030 better, it's more similar to the original DW 5000C, more faithful to the watch made in the 80s, and I prefer the classic screwback, that is with a silver color, that looks like pure steel. Nothing premium with these classic G Shock, it is better that they evoke us their original essence, made for workers and people with rough occupations, just as they were originally intended. And definitely I prefer the original watches made in the 80s, which had better modules and generally better quality: DW 5000C, DW 5200C, DW 5600C, DW 5700C, etc.
I wish I'd picked up a few in the 80s.
It looks lovely, but my money would go on a GW-5000U.
Good call 👍
This model have Tough Solar feature?
Nope
Last Anniversary square with though solar and mb was the GW-M5630.
Wow 😱 LOVE it
🤟🤟
Will you wearing it outside
I have been. Just not for hard labour. But I've been wearing it like I'd wear any other watch.
G-Shock: “Hey, we are 40 and now we are going to make you pay for it.”
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Not Multiband 6?
Not tough solar. 😢
Not LED backlight 😢
Electroluminescent backlight better than led
I don't like the flashy gold dial. Other than that, umm, it's just ok.
You can still paint the box with a cool spray paint and have it displayed.
There ya go!
Bought 2 love em
This thing is stunning. That case back and screen are amazing. If I had some extra cash I would buy it and not look back. But, we're trying to build a house and this has divorce written all over it lol.
Ha ha ha. One must always be aware of our spouse-given boundaries.
Gshocks been doing this every 5 years for 20 years now. Its nothing new. Anyone who has a problem with this release is nuts.
I wasn't paying attention before. I guess that's saved me so me coin. 😉
I want to love it so much because of the deep respect I have for it, it’s seems to lose the utilitarian. Maybe I need to hold one,
I recommend you don't or you might be $300 USD poorer after that.
@@halfpastblog 😳😳😳Thanks for the tip…
You're not nuts. It's a cash grab and one I'll be avoiding. The price simply doesn't make sense.
Only makes sense when they know idiots like me will pay up. 😉. (Appreciate your reviews by the way)
i wanted to get one of these for a gshock guys 40th birthday this year . it cost too much money. they should have made 2 one that cost only $100
That would be great and I can see that coming down the road.
Thanks! I was bummed to not have tough solar as well.
I got one and I love it , will be also buying the gold one. I love it so much I almost want a second one in case one gets damaged. lol l know it’s a g shock and it will be ok
I'd buy a second one to keep MIB if it went on sale. I'd really like to see a black version with the coating that's on the caseback.
No solar, no Bluetooth, no multiband 6, no thanks! Especially at that price…
I can respect that.
At 1:38 it is not 10R, but CR.
So it is!
The materials are amazing but they used the cheapest worst module
I love mine!
Happy to hear!
@@halfpastblogOne year follow up, this thing is keeping time within a second per month.
Screen legibility is not great. It always looks like a quarter of more of the screen is cast in darkness.
In real life it's pretty decent actually. My bright lights don't do it any favours.
In a practical sense, it’s not worth it. But to a collector it might be priceless. Personally, I would not buy it, for the cost and lack of solar, atomic time and the usual features of more recent Casio G-Shock squares.
I think you summed it up perfectly
If you can't bring it to yourself in wearing it. Why not buy 2 of them. One for wearing and 2nd for admire? Like bruh. Just wear it and enjoy it. Life to short to be fussy over the small stuff.
Of course if you want to sell it. And become a flipper. That's a whole different conversation. Watch just a tool. Granted some can become jewellery status. Just use them and enjoy it while it lasts.
I've been wearing it more than any other since. 👍
Keep it! 😍
I did. And I wear it a lot.
@@halfpastblog Great! I hope you enjoy it in good health 👏🏻
Make this solar and it would be perfect. Cheers 🍻!
Solar would be great!
I can see that point of view for sure
GShock truly know how to rake in money. They offer sparing improvements on various models without offering them all on the same one. Iterative improvements at exorbitant prices for what they truly are. The functions are so basic it's hard to justify US$100 for some of them. But this? No, it is a cash grab. If you see what's inside of these and how little time it takes to put them together, you will question why you spent as much on it. To me personally it makes far more sense to move to a legitimate timepiece instead of a novelty digital display. I can wear it to work and not feel kind of like a kid.
They make a killing off sucker like me.
I want to like it but the lack of features does not make it special enough.
That's a fair point.
The black watch on the left is better looking.
I like it.
Worth every penny ❤ mb6/solar, who cares 😂
I'm a tough solar guy but this one is excemption very cool watch
Great review, bad watch. The brick illustration on the front reminds me of the cheap video game watches that took a generic watch and slapped some stickers of whatever game they licensed. I can’t blame Casio though since there are people willing to overpay.
Idiots like me. Lol. Thanks a lot, my friend. 👍
Beautiful watch but The price should have been 300 CAD instead of 400 CAD.
That would have been much better for sure.
I have a 5610 and the 35th anniversary square DW-5035D. Don’t remember what I paid but I think it was ~$200 USD
I know the anniversary model doesn’t have tough Solar or multi band 6 but it feels much more premium and looks beautiful.
I think $200 USD makes more sense but I am still considering this 40th anniversary square.
$200 is the perfect price for this. Still, I don't regret it.
I'm just thinking about the chances there will be a 50th anniversary... 😂
So long as we keep buying they will keep selling.
U like it.. I need one
Good luck!
