Absolutely i am 38 as of August 25, 2021.i grew up tripping on CCC, LSD, SHROOMS & many other designer drugs. But this movie has a HUGE colt following. I always bring back good memories!
Amazing scene and use of music but the story was very disappointing - you shouldn’t have to watch the director’s commentary to fill in the gaps. David Lynch has gotten away with this kind of filmmaking somehow but no joy for Richard Kelly
Donnie Darko and Tears for Fears... a match made in HEAVEN! What happened to good movies and good songs? They seem to have fluttered away on the wind like beautiful little butterflies...
M Urschel Both music and movies are subjective, but you'll find what you like if you're willing to search for it. It's one of the few good thing about the internet.
One of the few times a classic song has been used in a movie and really manages to create a powerful scene rather than be mere wallpaper for the film in the background.
As a film student, one (of the MANY) thing I find remarkable about the way Richard Kelly tells his story is that every major character besides Donnie is introduced in a song sequence.
Donnie Darko is a very underrated movie. This is a classic film w/ the coolest soundtrack. My first time seeing it just blew me away. I liked it so much I bought the DVD. I make it a tradition to watch it the month of October. The story takes place October 1988. ❤️👍🎶
Best use of a song in a film ever! This scene is really awesome. Now that I'm older and have a much better understanding of the film, everything that happens makes sense. Everything happens for a reason. Drew Barrymore's character is one of the manipulated living. She was subconsciously drawn to make sure that Gretchen and Donnie sit together thus sparking a relationship between them. Great film!
donnie darko is my favorite movie of all time. it sparks even the young brains of teenagers (such as myself) to consider the possibilities of energy beyond what we're taught at school or "supposed" to know. this movie makes me ponder planned fate or just "going as you go". also has a dark edge to it which is the kind of thing i love in movies
I am so glad they picked head over heals from tears for fears. This song is such a great representation of the carefree 80's. It brings chills down my back because as a kid those memories stick
The only reason I watched this film was because a guy told me i was very like donnie or I reminded him of Donnie. It ended up being the first film I ever cried watching.
Quite stunning how one scene can contain so much irony and sarcasm but above all truth. I have never seen another scene that touched on so many themes and had such depth.
I have no words to describe how it makes me feel...This film is different from the rest, the music, the mistery, everything it envolves. I've seen it a houndred times and I can't get tired of it, it's such an incredible story...I felt in love with Donnie, with Frank and even with the airplane xD When I watch it I feel different from the rest, I think it's magic. It's so sad but satisfactory at the same time.
I love the montage such an incredible scene in this film. It shows us who the characters are and I like the way it shows us how the characters interact and think of each other, also how very different people are experiencing high school. brilliant too adding that song, makes it nostalgic
WTF, how can 60 people (thus far) not enjoy this? TFF --- Roland and Curt --- just magical voices. I'm lulled by the beauty of their music some 25 years later. I wish they would record every year. I love them so much.
This is one of my favourite scenes in the whole movie - the dual long shots, the acting timing, and the fact that to every character in this scene, I can match a kid or a teacher to them from my school exactly. Great example of a realistic view of the politics of the playground.
DD is endlessly fascinating for many reasons. Has characteristics of a cult classic. Sm reason people love Bladerunner from back in 1982. Aesthetically its a work of art I have to say. I was n high school in 1988 and JST saw this film a week ago. I was completly blown away. None of my friends my own age had seen it. For many its also amazing to see the little girl who was in ponytails in ET sitting here teaching. ER star here and PatSwayze RIP. Gyllenhalls first major film. Loads of reason.
Your exactly right,,this movie has left a mark on me,Ie always felt a connection with the message this ts not lost in this incredible movie,I really think the writer is a genius 😢💙🎸✌️🎹
This is SO cool... Sometimes you forget/don't realize how great a song is until it is displayed/portrayed within the context/theme of a film/scene. Perfection here!
I saw this movie and had such a good laugh. It brought back crazy memories of when I was at school and all the characters that were there lol and this great song made it even better.
The lyrics couldn't fit any more perfect with the plot. "I wanted to be with you alone And talk about the weather But traditions I can trace against the child in your face Won't escape my attention You keep your distance via the system of touch And gentle persuasion I'm lost in admiration, could I need you this much? Oh, you're wasting my time You're just, just, just wasting time Something happens and I'm head over heels I never find out until I'm head over heels Something happens and I'm head over heels Ah, don't take my heart, don't break my heart Don't, don't, don't throw it away Throw it away, throw it away I made a fire, and watching it burn Thought of your future With one foot in the past, now just how long will it last? Now, now, now, have you no ambitions? My mother and my brothers used to breathing clean air And dreaming I'm a doctor It's hard to be a man when there's a gun in your hand Oh, I feel so Something happens and I'm head over heels I never find out until I'm head over heels Something happens and I'm head over heels Ah, don't take my heart, don't break my heart Don't, don't, don't throw it away And this is my four leaf clover I'm on the line, one open mind This is my four leaf clover In my mind's eye One little boy, one little man Funny how time flies" The song even ends on the word flies (association to airplanes) and an unsettling tone. The feeling of the end of this song is very similar to the feeling when the movie ends. Might be my favorite use of song in film!
This scene reminds me of my own school life, I had two teachers that were almost exactly like Drew Barrymore and Noah Wyle are in this movie (they both were a couple, too).
Saw this film for the first time last night. I'm 60 and I've seen thousands of films in my lifetime. NOTHING compares to this. Its like the Van Gogh of motion pictures. Breathtaking.
I grew up in the 80's it was great They say humans are happier when they have more physical interaction. 80's was all about getting dressed up and going out.
I saw this again recently for the first time in ages and really thought this whole scene is extraordinary. The combination of the weird camera angle at the start, timed just right with a bit of classic 80's pop, right through to the whole long pan up the corridor with the scary beardy guy, the teacher and the love interest is just genius.
lets see, it's about time travel, hypocrisy in American culture, martyrdom for the greater good, it's like a modernized, revamped version of the jesus story, hence why his mom is always bathed in light. it's also about the political climate in the 1980s, it's also a love story, a psychological thriller, among many other things. Basically, it's one of those movies you have to see at least three times to fully understand.
That whole scene with tears for fears playing , is my all time favourite scene from any movie. I love everything about that scene.
exactly I as was thinking the same thing when I watched the movie the first time
You know what's even better than that and my personal favorite of Donnie Darko? The opening scene whith INXS Never Tear Us Apart.
You and me both!
@@JayInDecent not as good as the Bunnymen opening
❤❤👍👍
Every scene from this movie is so memorable, truly a classic.
Danjoker I learned it's easier to decipher this movie when you're not trying to decipher it.
Its now considered a cult classic !!
Especially the last...
For real though. What an incredible fucking film
Absolutely i am 38 as of August 25, 2021.i grew up tripping on CCC, LSD, SHROOMS & many other designer drugs. But this movie has a HUGE colt following. I always bring back good memories!
This is art , i think this movie was edited by genius,
agreed
An “art” genius, for sure
agreed, and not just for being focused on theoretical physics
This entire fucking movie was brilliance at its best
Amazing scene and use of music but the story was very disappointing - you shouldn’t have to watch the director’s commentary to fill in the gaps.
David Lynch has gotten away with this kind of filmmaking somehow but no joy for Richard Kelly
donnie darko is probably one of my favorite movies of ALL time
Same here. What an incredible film, honestly
it's so emblematic, i'm born in 1993 yet this resembles with our generation so much
Man... The opening to this song gives me such a overwhelming nostalgia for my days as a kid growing up in the 80s. Beautiful.
Noah Robert Graves I love your profile pic. I've used that same image on my Facebook. 🙏🏻
The good old 80's. Hard to beat.
Missing this so hard right now, cellar door indeed
Same here. Lots of good memories.
Came here to like the comment about how I was feeling.

What happened? They're still happening.
Urch: Chris Cornell Casino Royale comes to mind.
It technically has two tears for fears songs in if you count Gary Jules cover of Mad World
Studios and executives got in the way of both.
One of the few times a classic song has been used in a movie and really manages to create a powerful scene rather than be mere wallpaper for the film in the background.
VERY well said
Holy resurrection post. Totally agree. Epic song and brings back so many memories as a teenager in the mid 80s
I love how they introduce almost all of the characters in this part,
so clever c;
This scene is like a High School dream. I loved it.
why?
the amount of times i rewound this on dvd....
r.i.p. patrick swayze.
❤
I never knew Patrick Swayze was on this film
What's the name of soundtrack at 4:36?
This movie has all the best elements; great soundtrack (first and foremost), a baffling mystery, a hint of sci-fi, and a little romance.
What a movie and perfect soundtrack. A rare feat.
+Drive.
+Dune.
All the D's ...weird.
Which 'Drive'?
The Mark Dacascos one?
Muad' Dib drive is amazing
Leigh Dappa the one with Ryan gosling
I love the "wtf" look drew barrymore gives to sparkle motion aha
Donnie Darko is the perfect fit for the Tears For Fears Classic...such a great movie
As a film student, one (of the MANY) thing I find remarkable about the way Richard Kelly tells his story is that every major character besides Donnie is introduced in a song sequence.
thanks for that I never noticed.
Such a good spot that is!
Wow true, is interesting 👌🏻
This is one of my favorite scenes from any movie ever, and to think that it's this director's first film. What a way to start off!
This has got to be one of the best sequences I've ever seen in a movie.
One of the greatest scenes in cinematic history.
I like this song more than everybody wants to rule to word, or shout. It has this hypnotic ending that's hard to explain, just awesome
Man this opening is nostalgic as hell❤😢

I love this movie so much, what a gem. They don't make amazing movies like this anymore.

This movie is a real masterpiece, so underrated IMO
Wonderful scene from one of my favourite movie ever.
This is the best scene in the movie; the selection of this song was perfect.
Tears For Fears. Great band and classic tune from 1985.
I wanna delete my memory about donnie darko and watch it again.
This movie made me get into 80s music.

The only reason I watched this film was because a guy told me i was very like donnie or I reminded him of Donnie. It ended up being the first film I ever cried watching.
"the first film I ever cried watching." I think I went to a screening where we discussed it afterward. Sometimes movies are put together very well.
My favourite use of an in movie song and maybe my favourite movie - truly my four leaved clover ❤️
lol that "sit next to the boy you think is the cutest" is just so evil
Drew Barrymore is the ultimate bae in this film... imo anyway.
Gamesarki I love her !
Costa del Artlepool stands for before anything else, basically just a significant other
Whoever decided this song for this scene I hope they find peace in life
I think this is the best acting I've seen from Drew
