    This song is perfect for a reserved and sensitive character like Donnie Darko is.
    I like, I like the music of the post punk period too much like Echo and the Bunnymen, The Cure, Joy Division, The Sisters of Mercy, The Mission UK etc. Truly the darkest, deepest, most romantic music and lyrics make me feel warm inside.

      I disagree
      But I'm probably a small percentage that actually enjoyed the way the Director did it. It's the same with Lord of the Rings. I can only watch the extended versions because the theatrical just leaves out too much similar to this movie. The Director's Cut is the Director's Cut for a reason. ❤

    • @austintyler7901
      @austintyler7901 2 месяца назад +3

      I agree completely. Removing this was a fumble with the director's cut; but I also fine the director's cut far superior in almost every way.
      I know how this is going to sound, but it doesn't mean I'm wrong. There is a reason there was a theatrical cut. Like many indy films picked up for wide release, and many to most movies in general, they are not built to be the best the can be, they are built to be the most palpable to the worst audience.
      They are edited and adjusted in such a way to not make that wide audience feel left out. The theatrical version felt inclusive to a wide audience. "No one really gets it, so it's ok that I don't."
      The directors cut does get a bit busy with themes, but it is just as mysterious as the theatrical. The information provided with the book, the heavier lean into a comicsbook inspiration, both only help to enrich the lore, philosophical ambiguity, and questioning of reality.
      On top of that, it fully displays the youthful ambition of the writer; which creates the unquestionable genuineness and sometimes erratic narrative. Both of which, I believe, is the true heart and soul of the film.

    Honestly, a limited series remake of Donnie Darko would be really cool. Like maybe set it in the early 2000s when the orignal movie came out, it would expand the story a little more and give a whole new generation a chance to appreciate the it.

    Directors cut ruined this whole intro which was what reeled most of us into the mood of the film, and the unique part of this song on the original film is that it says "killing times" right as frank drives by. Like an easy music pun, but hey most directors cuts ruin movies anyways!

    I was just rewatching this movie for the first time a long time and they were playing a completely different song during this scene. I thought I lost my mind because I vividly remember this song playing the first few times I watched it. Out of curiosity, I tried a few different streaming sites and they all had the version with the different song. So what's the deal, did they rerelease the film with this scene now having a different song? I can't recall ever seeing that before.

      Они выпустили режиссерскую версию. Режиссерская версия чуть длиньше. Она в том числе содержит страницы из книги Бабушки Смерти. Режиссерская версия чуть яснее раскрывает некоторые тайны фильма. Режиссер изначально хотел в начале поставить песню INXS, но не смог получить права. В режиссерской версии он смог это осуществить. Но многие зрители считают, что песня Echo and the Bunnymen подходит лучше.

    DIRECTOR'S CUT IS SO MUCH BETTER. Once upon a time I purchased Donnie Darko the Director's Cut and the people who sent it to me basically told me they'd pray for me and sent me a book of Pslams. 😂😂😂😂 Now I am a Christian, but that was ridiculous and the movie itself is fantastic.
    Also, I'm baffled that so many "fans" hate the Director's cut... That is shokcing to me because the Director only changed one song and added more detail about why the end of the worls was actually happening. I enjoyed it the way the Director intended it. Shame that so many are against it.

      Here's why many of us prefer the theatrical cut: The theatrical cut is very much open to the viewer's interpretation, while the director's cut spoon feeds you Kelly's intentions. We also tend to think the song choices and placements are better in the theatrical cut (it's not just one song difference, but the songs' placements in each cut), but I'd personally say the openness to interpretation is the far greater reason for preferring the theatrical cut.

    Just saw the directors cut, though the Killing Moon is more fitting here. I don't hate Never Tear Us Apart, though tonally The Killing Moon is more fitting because the songs themes fate, human will and the cycle of life feel more relevant to the film.

I'm just shocked that so many people hate the Director's version... like wtf... it's the same film.. they just added more information about why the end of the world was happening and changed one song that all of you seem to be butt hurt about.

      Bear in mind it was a real struggle to get made, they could only get a small budget, the company at one point wanted to put it straight to DVD, everything about the film aside from the actual filming was a challenge, I'd say they delivered well for what they had and what they were up against

    • @eyeballjay
      @eyeballjay Месяц назад +1

      @@alexanderwood3465 Happy accident imo. the "bad" quality of the film makes it look authentically 80s, if you told me this was made in the 80s instead of the 2000s I'd believe you. your setbacks and failures are just as much of a part of the art you make as your wins, and that isn't always a bad thing.
