It’s so clear Roland wants to make some kind of galaxy spanning sci-fi epic with some sort of alien galactic civilization…but he’s stuck making earthly disaster movies and just has to figure out how he can cram some kind of galaxy wide implications into them. Man should just make a galaxy-scale disaster movie. Have an evil malevolent force that keeps destroying planets (the logical end-point of other disaster movies if they weren't stopped for a happy ending, lets him do a bunch of miniature disaster movies inside a larger disaster movie) then give the protagonists the job of stopping the disaster force before it reaches Earth.

An "old school crank" means a school crank who is old. The compound adjective "old school" must appear with a hyphen when it's followed by the noun it modifies, as in "old-school crank," otherwise the only logical interpretation is that both "old" and "school" separately modify that noun. The same principle goes for any other compound adjective: A "high school student" actually means a school student who is high.

I don't think he cares how many people like or don't like it or for what reasons, he just wants to make them. And he does, and even if they don't do particularly well, he himself is still getting paid to artistically express himself in the way he wants to, as his job, what's to feel bad about from that?

To be precise, in halo the race that built the super structures and super AIs isnt the human ancestors, it was another advanced race who was in an exhausting war against the ancestors of humanity (who were advanced too)
The advanced alien race realized that ancestors of humanity werent fighting them because theyre conquerers, but because they were running away from a galagtic threat hive mind virus that destroys all living mass, and due to the war on two fronts humanity lost and is near extent and was reduced to primitive civilization on one planet, earth.
the advanced aliens (having the superiority comlex they posses) decided that they should take the mantle of protecting all life, they went into battle head on with the hive mind but they still lost, feeling defeated they crafted a plan, they built super structures like The ark, and ring worlds which are weapons that destroy all living mass on a galactic scale to destroy the hive mind's food(thats the only way of killing it) , and then started cataloging most living creatures in the galaxy in away that they wont be affected by the rings being fired
The advanced race refused to catalogue them selves having themselves to go extinct so they can " ascend"
After excuting the plan, the defeat of the hive mind and using AIs and tech wizardary all races returned to their homes and life was saved

It had the object permanence skills of a stealth game NPC, and our heroes outwitted it on multiple occasions. And people dunked on Armageddon back in the day for having an unrealistic plot. If I recall, it'd still be the same mass peltering down on the earth, just with vastly more surface area, meaning a lot more of it would burn up in atmosphere, which would significantly heat up the atmosphere, as well as put a lot of dust into the upper atmosphere trapping the heat in better. Not to mention there's probably still a ton of chunks big enough not to burn up entirely, meaning instead of one huge crater, you got several still very big craters. I mean, a lot of real world craters came from something you could hold in your hand, and have comparable blast radii to nukes. So shattering the a big asteroid before its impact would be equivalent to just simultaneously setting off a 100 or so nukes across the planet, even somewhat comparable long term effects making the earth significantly less hospitable. If people didn't die from being cooked alive or being in the blast radius of an impact, then we're looking at a situation theorized to have killed the dinosaurs and generally brought about significant changes to the prevalent lifeforms on earth. If I recall, the better solution would've instead been using the nuke on the surface where it wouldn't break, so that force would instead push it into a new trajectory and cause it to miss the planet entirely. But also its a movie and people want to see nukes blow up big things, so whatever.

If you don't have time for that smashing it into tiny pieces with a bomb is probably the best option, yes you will heat up the atmosphere and you might have a few smaller impacts, but it would still be better than doing nothing, especially if you can deflect some of the material away from earth with a big enough explosion.

People start to die in high mountain regions in the thousands, then millions. It first, a disease is assumed.. But as one doctor at a hospital reports over the radio, it's not a virus.. it's killing all animals, even insects.. yet plants are perfectly fine..
It's also killing combustion engines and even fire dies... (I'll let you guess what disaster is happening here :P)

Cody, if Emmerich ever asks you to write Andromeda, you need to make it a major plot point where the scientist's "Telescope-mometer" was the bad guy the whole time and somehow made the Andromeda shift towards the Milky Way.
EDIT: Adding another absurd idea I came up with, but at one point in the film, the earth and some random alien planet should end up getting temporarily caught inside the upper atmosphere of a gas giant the size of the sun during the merge of the two galaxies, where earth and this random alien planet have some petty dispute (likely something along the lines of earth unknowingly violating some rule of the Andromeda galaxy's UN equivalent), so both planets send their entire air forces towards each other and have a major aerial battle in the atmosphere of this gas giant (this plot point will occur largely in the background, and will have about

Nah, there's no "grey morality" or secret bad guys in Emmerich's movies. The "Telescope-mometer" would just be an ego-driven bureaucrat who thinks it's in charge but just kind of gets in the way for a while.

    • @ingydegmar2060

What if every "Telescope-mometer" in history was made by aliens? The 6.5 billion has been False from the start. The aliens have been on earth all this time, and control all space stuff. Protagonist's home made "Telescope-mometer" was the only one giving us the real data. The aliens didn't want us to find out because they want to get back to Andromeda but their wormhole-inator is broken. I have no idea how we are meant to stop Andromeda, but it's gonna involve blowing up Jupiter and it's gonna be glorious.

If I remember correctly some video I watched in the past, the irony is that basically nothing would get destroyed when andromeda and the milky way will join anyways, because the distances between star systems is to absurdly huge, the stars and planets won’t even be close to hitting each other. But then again, since when does Emmerich care even the tiniest bit about science :P

I just stumbled on Moonfall without knowing about it. During the movie, the main thought going through my mind was that this was so similar to 2012 movie. The crazy conspiracy theorist who knew about it, the nonsensical science that requires a huge suspension of disbelief, the story following some people trying to survive the disaster, and it even had the lover of the lead character's ex die so they can be back together as one family. The style of the movie felt so familiar. The same guy who made 2012 had to make Moonfall. Just looked it up, watched a few youtube videos like this, and confirmed it. I like the idea about galaxies colliding. That's exactly the disaster movie I expect to come next.

That was the one huge mistake from 2012: Not making the conspiracy theorist one of the main people! Honestly why did Emmerich felt the need to do that?
Not only was it totally unnecessary to have the conspiracy believer, the whole "real" NASA conspiracy could also have been easily cut. I can only assume Emmerich wanted to repeat the whole Area 51 and Roswell-thing from Independence Day, but that made at least some sense in that movie.
Samwell could have been a NASA scientist (a specialist for the moon), who realized something weird going on, but nobody believed him and he got ultimately fired. And the EMP-device could have been a "normal" military project that they use out of desperation. No need for the NASA conspiracy (and the conspiracy-members couldn't possibly have known they would need an EMP-bomb, just because they believed the moon-superstructure-story)

I saw this movie with my brother. No one else was in the theatre at the time. It was probably one of the best movie-watching experiences I've ever had. One of my favorite things was how the moon would 'visit' the Earth every now and then to cause some crazy gravitational nonsense, and then be all "that was fun, I'mma head out" and things would go back to normal for a while.

I laughed so hard at the scene where they showed that the moon was changing course that easily after the "nano-monster" left the moon to destroy the first shuttle. Not even the super-duper gravimetric drive could make it change it's direction that easily. Of course that scene was only in the movie so they could figure out that the "monster" was the real bad guy ...
But if course corrections are that easy, why did the evil AI decide not to ram the moon straight into Earth instead of choosing a much slower course? Even if it thought that the humans couldn't stop it anyway it should have gone for the fastest solution.

    • @WAUZZZ81ZDA
      @WAUZZZ81ZDA Год назад +7

@@lordmontymord8701 I think the implication is that the AI monster cant control the moon, it doesn't have access to the systems. But it can apparently blot out the white dwarf in the moons core, to rob the moons systems of power. And that apparently makes the moon spiral down towards earth. AI monster leaves -> power restored -> moon course corrects.
Of course that's not how orbits work, but that's just such an roland emmerich thing to do.
